Ever since the deeply embarrassing week that surrounded the September meeting of Trump’s sham voter suppression commission, the question has been what’s next for Kris Kobach, Hans von Spakovsky, and the rogues gallery of proponents of false voter fraud claims that Trump has assembled to do his bidding. We don’t know much about what they’ve been up to since then or when the next meeting will be—neither do commissioners Matthew Dunlap and Alan King. All we really know is that their troubles are mounting, including a Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigation into the sham commission.

Senators Michael Bennet, Amy Klobuchar, and Cory Booker wrote to GAO on October 18 with their concern that “the manner in which the [commission] is conducting its work will prevent the public from a full and transparent understanding of [its] conclusions and unnecessarily diminish confidence in our democratic process.” The senators queried several specific issues, including the commission’s federal funding and its efforts to protect voter information and adhere to government regulations.

GAO responded on October 25 that the sham voter suppression commission has been assigned a lead investigator and placed on GAO’s to-do list.
