Last month, televangelist Jim Bakker broadcasted his show live from a “prepper” expo he was hosting at his megachurch in Missouri, where he offered viewers several reasons why they should fear imminent chaos and unrest in America: ISIS, urban violence, and anti-Christian persecution at the hands of the Obama administration and the gay community.
“So many in the inner-city for some reason hate the police,” Bakker said. “If the police are gone from one day, just suddenly gone, we are going to have anarchy, we are going to have the greatest hell on earth because the gangs will take over. And it’s time to be ready, it’s time to be prepared, it’s time to be informed.”
He added that “the group called ISIS and others have already established themselves in the United States of America and they are waiting for the final signals.” Bakker’s guest, Rick Joyner, confirmed that he had seen such calamities take place in a dream he had, which Bakker pointed to as further proof that people should call in to purchase packets of survivalist food such as macaroni and cheese, veggie burgers, chili and oatmeal.
Speaking at a “prepper” event at Jim Bakker’s megachurch in Missouri last month, televangelist Rick Joyner lamented that people like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Islamist leaders hate America because we have become “a gay nation.” This, Joyner said, was very true and deserved an apology, which he offered on the spot.
“One of the things [the Russians] really hate is what they think we have become, a gay nation,” he said. “It’s the main reason why Islam, by the way, calls us the ‘Great Satan.’ They think we’re, we say we trust God, we put that on our money, but we export the worst kinds of perversion all over the world.”
“And of course they have their own perversion, they have — but they see us as the source of the worst spiritual and moral pollution in the world. And, you know, we can’t disagree with that. That shouldn’t be happening here.”
“You know, when I spoke to a meeting of many of the top mullahs and imams at the World Public Forum, I apologized for that,” he continued. “And I will apologize. I am really sorry for the moral filth and pollution that is coming out of America, and this is happening on our watch too. You know, there are a lot of reasons why the nations hate us, but mainly they see hypocrisy on a level unprecedented. We say one thing and do the other.”
Joyner, who was helping Bakker sell the survivalist goods that he markets through his ministry, went on to warn that the Obama administration is now working with the Council on American-Islamic Relations — falsely claiming that a U.S. court designated it as a terrorist group — to treat Christians in the U.S. as terrorists while completely ignoring Muslims plotting attacks.
“This is either naiveté, incompetence on a level unheard of in history, or it is treason, this is an inside job,” he said. “We’re letting them cross our border, we’re letting them fly into our thing. Now there are many being stopped, there are many great agents doing their job in spite of being handcuffed by regulations, orders coming down, memos, everything else. Our FBI was forbidden from investigating Muslims.”
Now, Joyner warned, the government has “started targeting … Christians, veterans, Second Amendment rights groups,” and saying that “we’re the terrorist threat, not the Muslims.”
“There’s a meltdown going on, America is being melted down, it’s being destroyed from within,” he warned.
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said on his radio program yesterday that the Obama administration has become so obsessed with pushing a “radical social agenda” and sowing “moral confusion” around the world that it has resulted in global “chaos.”
Perkins, who was speaking with End Times commentator Joel Rosenberg in a live broadcast from the FRC’s “Watchmen on the Wall” conference, attacked President Obama for being too concerned with social policies such as LGBT rights. (Social issues, of course, are the focus of Perkins’ entire career.)
“You can clearly argue, with concrete evidence, this administration has been distracted by its social agenda,” Perkins said. Rosenberg similarly charged that the Obama administration is bent on dismantling “fundamental constitutional rights” and driving the country “right down the toilet.”
Today on “Sandy Rios in the Morning,” Operation Save America’s Flip Benham said that the prevalence of violent crime and recent riots in cities such as Baltimore are part of God’s punishment for the legalization of abortion in the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.
“There’s murder everywhere,” Benham said. “Just look in Baltimore and see what’s going on there, it’s just murder, it’s chaos, it’s anarchy. God is saying, ‘Listen, you shed the blood of the most innocent baby boy or girl, you go ahead and do that, that innocent blood has a voice that cries out to God.’ And we are now under the remedial judgments of God as a nation because of almost 60 million little baby boys and girls killed since January 22, 1973.”
He also spoke with Rios about the cancellation of a planned reality TV show starring his sons Jason and David Benham after their anti-LGBT political activism came to light. Benham said that his sons thought the show “was God’s answer” but that it was “all just taken away from them” after “Right Wing Watch [and] the homosexual community” reported on their extremist record.
“Yes they monitor the show, they’re listening now, hello Right Wing Watch,” Rios said. Benham added: “They and the homosexual community, I want so much for them to be free of that homosexual bondage, I want the very best for them.”
Rios agreed and claimed that gay people, who she “wants to be restored and whole,” are really at war with the “Creator of the Earth.”
Mike Huckabee, whose presidential campaign website still boasts of his endorsement from the Duggar family, responded on his Facebook page today to the revelation that the reality TV family’s eldest son, Josh, sexually assaulted several girls, including his sisters, as a minor.
Naturally, Huckabee was defensive of the Duggars and of Josh, who resigned yesterday from his leadership post at the Family Research Council, suggesting that the family handled the matter appropriately.
Huckabee praised the Duggar family, who took over a year to bring the matter to law enforcement, saying that they “dealt with it and were honest and open about it with the victims and the authorities.”
He adds that Josh is a good person who “confessed his sins to those he harmed [and] sought help,” despite the fact that, according to reports, Josh did not receive counseling and was only sent to live with a family friend who worked in the home remodeling business.
The former Arkansas governor saved his anger for the people who have cited the case to point out the disingenuousness of the reality TV stars and the conservative political activists who hold them up as a paragon of moral virtue, or as Josh referred to his family, “the epitome of conservative values.” They also have a record of depicting LGBT people as threats to children.
“Those who have enjoyed revealing this long ago sins [sic] in order to discredit the Duggar family have actually revealed their own insensitive bloodthirst, for there was no consideration of the fact that the victims wanted this to be left in the past and ultimately a judge had the information on file destroyed—not to protect Josh, but the innocent victims.”
On his Facebook page today, Franklin Graham criticized Boy Scouts of America President Robert Gates for suggesting that the group, which recently lifted its ban on gay youth, rescind its prohibition on gay troop leaders.
“Robert Gates, shame on you for not having the moral courage to do what is right,” Graham said, calling on followers to threaten to leave the Boy Scouts if they go ahead in “bending to LGBT activist groups” and “put young, innocent boys at risk.”
Another conservative commentator, Paul Kengor, told WorldNetDaily that Gates’s announcement “torched” the scout oath. “When not even the Boy Scouts have courage anymore,” he warned, “America can rest in peace.”
Paul Kengor, a professor of political science and author of “Takedown: From Communists to Progressives, How the Left Has Sabotaged Family and Marriage,” warned the latest triumph by activists is a testament to the effectiveness of political terror.
In an interview with WND, Kengor said it’s “really a shame about the Boy Scouts.”
“Their oath forever has been about obeying God and being physically and morally straight and strong. It’s their motto. That has been torched,” he said.
“They’ve caved to the forces of ‘tolerance’ and ‘diversity’ who relentlessly picket and harass and attack and sue and scream at and demonize and dehumanize and destroy those who disagree with their completely new configurations of marriage, family, sexuality, and even morality itself.”
The Boy Scouts have shown themselves to be just as craven as all the other organizations that the gay-marriage brigades target,” Kengor charged. “When not even the Boy Scouts have courage anymore, America can rest in peace.”
The entertainment magazine In Touch reported this week on police records that they say reveal that Josh Duggar, the eldest son of reality TV’s Duggar family and executive director of the anti-gay Family Research Council’s political wing, as a minor was turned in to the police by his father for “fondling” girls, likely his sisters, while they were asleep.
According to reports, Jim Bob Duggar waited nearly a year to report his son’s actions to the authorities, while Michelle Duggar said that Josh did not receive counseling for the incidents, as they told their church’s leadership, but instead was instead was sent to live with a family friend. It appears that the only consequence was that he had to apologize and received a “very stern talk” from a state trooper.
Last December, Duggar led a successful campaign to defeat a LGBT nondiscrimination measure in Fayetteville, Arkansas, which he said jeopardized the safety of children during an interview on the FRC radio program “Washington Watch”:
Duggar also said that opposing the nondiscrimination ordinance as a sign of “love” to the gay community, which he accused of trying to “silence” its critics.
Michelle Duggar also ran a robocall pushing for the repeal of the city’s nondiscrimination ordinance, which she warned would empower “child predators” to threaten “the safety and innocence of a child.”
Josh Duggar released a statement to People magazine saying that God has forgiven him but that he has resigned from the FRC:
Twelve years ago, as a young teenager, I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret. I hurt others, including my family and close friends," Josh, 27, tells PEOPLE in a statement. "I confessed this to my parents who took several steps to help me address the situation. We spoke with the authorities where I confessed my wrongdoing, and my parents arranged for me and those affected by my actions to receive counseling. I understood that if I continued down this wrong road that I would end up ruining my life."
Josh has resigned from his position at the Family Research Council as a result of the accusations becoming public, but his family has stood behind him.
"Back 12 years ago our family went through one of the most difficult times of our lives," Jim Bob, 49, and Michelle, 48, said in a joint statement. "When Josh was a young teenager, he made some very bad mistakes, and we were shocked. We had tried to teach him right from wrong. That dark and difficult time caused us to seek God like never before."
Their statement continues, "Even though we would never choose to go through something so terrible, each one of our family members drew closer to God. We pray that as people watch our lives they see that we are not a perfect family. We have challenges and struggles everyday. It is one of the reasons we treasure our faith so much because God's kindness and goodness and forgiveness are extended to us – even though we are so undeserving. We hope somehow the story of our journey – the good times and the difficult times – cause you to see the kindness of God and learn that He can bring you through anything."
"I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions," says Josh. "I sought forgiveness from those I had wronged and asked Christ to forgive me and come into my life. In my life today, I am so very thankful for God's grace, mercy and redemption."
Several months ago, fact-checkers completely debunked one of Rick Santorum’s talking points, that all of the net new jobs created in the U.S. since 2000 went to immigrants. However, just because the contention has absolutely no factual basis, doesn’t mean the former senator and likely presidential candidate has stopped making the claim.
Santorum trotted out the dishonest talking point once again during his speech today to the Southern Republican Leadership Conference.
“The sad part is that the Democratic Party that used to be the party of working people have now sold their souls because they have read the polls and they realize the more people they can bring into this country, the higher percentage of votes they’re going to get,” Santorum said. “So they’re for unlimited immigration. Why? Because they’re going to get a high percentage of those votes, that’s what they care about. They care about workers who see their wages depressed and opportunities scarce? No. No they’ve long abandoned working men and women.”
Conservative activists and politicians sometimes let it slip that targeted regulation of abortion providers (TRAP) laws, aren’t medically necessary measures but are really just efforts designed to close abortion clinics. For example, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryan admitted last year that he signed new regulations into law in order to shut down the state’s sole abortion clinic and “make Mississippi abortion-free.”
David Fowler of the Family Action Council of Tennessee made a similar acknowledgment while speaking to Family Research Council President Tony Perkins on yesterday’s edition of “Washington Watch,” where the two were discussing a new Tennessee law establishing “a 48-hour waiting period and in-person counseling before a pregnant person can receive abortion care.”
Fowler said that he hopes that Tennessee lawmakers will now enact even tougher anti-choice regulations, such as an ultrasound requirement, as part of his campaign to close Planned Parenthood clinics in the state, particularly one in Memphis.
He told Perkins he wants the Memphis clinic shut down because it has “become an abortion destination" for women from other states like Mississippi, where it has become difficult to find an abortion provider.
“You can actually see some of those [clinics] shut down,” Perkins said.
“You could,” Fowler replied. “Because we didn’t have informed consent laws, waiting period laws, clinic regulations, Memphis in particular did become a hub because states like Mississippi and Arkansas had strong laws. That was part of our argument, we’ve become an abortion destination.”
“We might see some of those places close and good riddance,” Fowler added.
