Klingenschmitt: What Gays Do Behind Closed Doors Is Not Love, It's Lawlessness

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt voiced his outrage that California's anti-gay Proposition 8 was not being enforced, declaring that there was a demonic spirit of lawlessness inside of government officials who are refusing to enforce it.

There is also a spirit of a lawlessness in gays in general, Klingenschmitt asserted, because they are violating God's law. "Lust is not love," he said, "and whatever they're doing behind closed doors is not love in the homosexuality community. It is lawlessness."

He then went on to pray that God would enforce His law so that it will be established "and will ban sodomy" in America, because "it is a perversion and it is not love at all":

Guinness: 'Cultures Where You Have A High View Of Homosexuality Have A Very Low View Of Women'

David Brody, the Chief Political Correspondent for Pat Robertson's CBN News, posted a short video clip on his blog today featuring Christian author and speaker Os Guinness discussing how Christians should respond to the push for marriage equality.

Brody, who laughably considers himself to be a "neutral political observer," highly recommended Guinness' suggestions about "what Christians need to do when it comes to fighting back against the increasing acceptance of homosexuality in American culture," saying that the video was "very enlightening," so we decided to take a look.

After stating that Christians need to show love to gays just as they do to people who are in prison, Guinness asserted that it is imperative that they also start putting forth "positive arguments" explaining why homosexuality is bad for the people involved as well as for society as a whole.

As an example of the sort of convincing argument that he thinks is going to turn the tide in their favor, Guinness claimed that societies that have a "high view of homosexuality" tend to also "have a very low view of women," like in ancient Sparta.

"A lot of people who advocate the Spartan culture; homosexuals, lesbians, gays, and so on," Guinness said, "they forget Sparta was strong on homosexuals but it was very bad on women.  And many of the cultures where you have a high view of homosexuality have a very low view of women. And women whom we love and feminists who we appreciate; do they realize what they're choosing?"

Again, let us note that Guinness thinks that this is an example of the sort of "positive argument" that anti-gay Christians can use to "win people's hearts and minds."

Good luck with that.

A Biblical American History Lesson With Glenn Beck

It was only a matter of time, given Glenn Beck's current obsession with Israel, before he dedicated a program to Biblical history, which is just what he did last night, spending his opening monologue tracing Western Civilization back to the twelve tribes of Israel and explaining that all of our contemporary laws and society are directly rooted in the Kingdom of Judah.

In Beck's telling, following the defeat of the Assyrians, the lost tribes of Northern Israel fled across the Caucus region and settled on the coastlines of Europe where they created Western Civilization and eventually became the Pilgrims that founded America.

"All of Western Civilization," Beck declared, "is based on the laws of Israel and our entire history is directly tied to this moment" before going on the explain that our Statue of Liberty is, in reality, a representation of Moses proclaiming the Ten Commandments.

Does Glenn Beck Even Read 'The Blaze'? Part II

A while back, we wrote a post noting that sometimes it seems like Glenn Beck doesn't even read the reporting done by The Blaze because he asserts things on the air that have been debunked by his own network.

The same thing happened again today when Beck kicked off his radio program by complaining about how the trial of Nidal Hasan is being handled, during which he asserted that Hasan received a military promotion even while sitting in jail awaiting his trial on multiple murder counts:

Of course, Beck's website debunked that claim several months ago, noting that it only required "little cursory Googling" to discover that the claim was false:

A little cursory Googling immediately shows that the article is false. For instance, the full article mentions figures named General William Hewitt and Colonel Nathan Butterworth. No such Army officers exist. In fact, the only General William Hewitt we were able to find is a British army officer.

How could such a story be written, then? Simple: It is not a story. It is satire — a joke. The Duffel Blog is not a news site. Rather, according to its own “About” page, it is essentially a military equivalent to “The Onion.”

...

Even if you don’t find the joke funny, it’s difficult to argue with the basic fact that it is a joke, and there is no “story” to substantiate the rumor. Major Nidal Hassan remains a Major, and his only potential promotion is to the post of “ex-Major.”

PFAW Foundation Remembers Civil Rights Hero Julius Chambers

We here at People For the American Way Foundation are deeply saddened by the passing of Julius Chambers, a trailblazing civil rights lawyer and former People For the American Way Foundation board member.  In the 1960s, Chambers opened what became the first integrated law firm in North Carolina and later went on to lead the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund.  Throughout his life, he fought and won cases on school desegregation and discrimination, including a case on public school integration – Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education– that went all the way to the Supreme Court and paved the way for the use of busing to counter segregation.

But as the New York Times noted yesterday:

Mr. Chambers’s victories came with a cost. In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision in Swann, his offices were firebombed. After his successes in 1965, his car was firebombed and two bombs exploded in his home.

His response was defiant; he said he would “keep fighting.”

More than forty years later, during a 2008 PFAW Foundation panel on the future of the Supreme Court, Chambers made it clear that he was still fighting.  He underscored his commitment to “us[ing] the courts to correct the injustices that we see still perpetuated today,” including discrimination against low-income people.

It is not difficult to see why the North Carolina NAACP chapter described Chambers as “a man of tremendous courage.”

A Window Into Bryan Fischer's Worldview

Watching Bryan Fischer's radio program is often like taking a trip into Bizzaro World , as one watches Fischer concoct utterly nonsensical scenarios and then treat them as if they were actual items worthy of discussion when, in reality, all he is doing is providing a window into his oddly warped worldview.

For example, he spent several segments of today's broadcast discussing the purchase of the Washington Post by Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos during which he asserted that outlets such as the Post are losing readers and influence because they are not covering real, important news ... like the fact that some bikers held a church service in a bar in Sturgis during Bike Week, which Fischer thinks ought to be "the number one story of the week, I don't care who you are."

Now, the fact that Fischer thinks that that story ought to be the lead item throughout the media is strange enough, but it is nothing compared to his belief that liberals are "scandalized" by the sale of the Post to Bezos because he sells things like Scooby Doo lunch boxes and Barbie Roll-On lip gloss on Amazon.

Fischer literally spent two minutes bizarrely explaining that liberals think they are so much smarter and better than everyone else and so they are scandalized that someone who sells "plebeian" things like lunch boxes and lip gloss would be taking over one of the nation's elite newspapers:

Minister Leslie Watson Malachi: On Voting Rights, More Bridges to Cross

In response to the Supreme Court's recent Voting Rights Act decision, Rep. John Lewis, the civil rights hero and Georgia congressman, said, "I take it very personally. I gave a little blood on that bridge for the right to vote, for the right to participate in a democratic process."

Klingenschmitt: 'Sell Your Clothes And Buy A Gun'

On his most recent "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt cited a claim by a retired Army captain that the government was stockpiling weapons and ammunition for use against American citizens to warn his audience to sell their clothes to buy weapons to protect themselves from the coming government persecution ... because that is what Jesus would recommend.

"I think Jesus would favor the Second Amendment," Klingenschmitt said, pointing to a passage in Luke where Jesus tells his disciples to sell their cloaks to buy a sword.

Of course, according to the Book of Matthew, when Jesus was later arrested, he told his disciples to put their swords away because "all who draw the sword will die by the sword." But Chaps isn't concerned about that teaching, instead telling his audience that "as a Christian chaplain, sell your clothes and buy a gun. It's time. The government persecution will be coming against you and you need to arm yourselves and defend your family when that time comes":

Beck: San Antonio's Anti-Discrimination Proposal Is Just A Bid By Mayor Julián Castro For Higher Office

On Monday night's broadcast of "The Glenn Beck Program," Beck and John Hagee dedicated a segment to railing against a proposed anti-discrimination ordinance in San Antonio, Texas that the Religious Right is convinced would ban Christians from running for office or in any way working for the government.

It is not true, of course, but Beck returned to the topic again last night when he asserted that the filibuster Texas state Senator Wendy Davis carried out against the radical anti-abortion legislation earlier this summer was nothing more than a stunt designed to raise her profile in order to allow her to run for higher office, just as San Antonio's anti-discrimination proposal is an effort by the city's mayor to become Vice President of the United States.

"In this case," Beck said, "the mayor of San Antonio is a Hispanic and he's trying to show Hillary Clinton and all the other Democrats that he is the perfect running mate in 2016."

Because that makes sense, since presidential candidates frequently tap mayors to serve as their running mates:

Fischer Asserts That CIA Director John Brennan Is A Muslim

Earlier this year, the anti-Muslim right seized upon an entirely unverified claim by disgraced former FBI agent John Guandolo that John Brennan, the Director of the CIA, had secretly converted to Islam as part of a Saudi Arabian "counterintelligence operation against him to recruit him."

There was absolutely no evidence to support the assertion other than Guandolo's say so, but that didn't matter as it immediately became a widely believed "fact" among people like Bryan Fischer who, to this day, continues to openly repeat it as if were verifiable and true.

On his radio broadcast this afternoon, Fischer cited another totally untrustworthy story claiming that President Obama would be meeting with high-ranking Muslim Brotherhood officials, which then prompted him to boldly declare that "John Brennan is a Muslim ... He's a devout Muslim, he's a die-hard Muslim, he believes what Muslims believe" despite having literally no evidence to support that claim whatsoever:

Wiles & Tancredo: America Must Turn To God In Order To Free Us From Satan's Trap

Former Congressman and current candidate for governor in Colorado, Tom Tancredo, was the guest on Rick Wiles' End Times radio broadcast yesterday where the two men engaged in a long and convoluted discussion about everything that was wrong with the nation and the world, including immigration reform, terrorism, and even the rise of gay rights.

In the end, both Wiles and Tancredo agreed that the only real solution is for this nation to turn back to God in order to free us from the trap created by Satan:

Tancredo: If this nation returned to God, if some crisis did occur that caused people to turn to God and not to government, we've got a chance under that scenario.

Wiles: That's really where it's coming down to, isn't it?

Tancredo: Yes it is. Yes it is.

Wiles: We're going into a situation that the people are going to have to chose who is their god.

Tancredo: Yes, God or Government.  Boy, no kidding!

Wiles: That's really what it's coming down to.

Tancredo: Yeah, what's the big "G" in your life?

...

Wiles: Whatever you want to call this group of this secret government, whoever is running, with the power, what they've said to the American people ... It's really, at the core of it, it's Satan. I mean, He's working through his people on earth just as God works through people.

But literally what has been said to the American people is we will allow you to enjoy your sins - in fact, we will legalize your sins, we'll protect your sins, we'll encourage you to sin.  In return, you give us your freedom.

Tancredo: Yeah.

Wiles: And now, the American people are caught in a trap.

Klingenschmitt: If You Are Gay, 'Then You Should Be Discriminated Against'

On his most recent "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt added his voice to the never-ending Religious Right outrage over a proposed San Antonio anti-discrimination ordinance that would supposedly ban Christians for serving in public office or in any way working for the city.

It is all nonsense, of course, but that didn't stop Chaps from attacking the proposal by saying that gays should be discriminated against ... and citing Martin Luther King to prove it.

Klingenschmitt's line of reasoning was so convoluted that even he couldn't understand it, as he cited MLK's famous "judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character" line to assert that "if your heart is full of corruption or sin or immorality - in this case, homosexuality - then you should be discriminated against."

But then, seeming to realize that the argument he was making that discrimination based on character is justified could just as easily be used against people who are anti-gay, Klingenschmitt ended up tying himself in knots:

"When these confusing statutes now try to redefine discrimination and say that you can no longer discriminate against character ... that anyone who discriminates against character is guilty of discrimination and therefore ought to be discriminated against, they're actually saying Martin Luther King himself ought to be punished for his views, and that's not right."

Beck: 'All Of Western Society Comes From The Torah'

Glenn Beck once again hosted John Hagee on his television program last night, where he introduced him as "one of the great men alive today" based on their mutual love and concern for the nation of Israel, which they both explained was rooted in the Bible.

After Beck declared that he "gets his pro-Israel stance from the Bible" and that "between the Bible and the history of America, I know whose side we're supposed to be on," Hagee proclaimed that "the Jewish people do not occupy the land of Israel, they own the land of Israel" because it had been given to them by God.

As such, Hagee said, Christians are obligated to protect and defend them and Beck eagerly agreed, adding that "we're so indebted because, if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the Torah, which most of our laws come from; all of Western society comes from the Torah":

Beck: US And Russia Are On The Verge Of World War III

Glenn Beck views all of human history as little more than a series of cycles that continuously repeat, seeing it as his responsibility to understand those cycles and uncover the modern-day recurrences in order to warn all of humanity what is coming down the road.

So when something happens today, it is just like what happened in the past, which means that what happens next will be just like what followed when it happened the last time in exactly the same fashion and on the same timeline.

All of which is a convoluted way of explaining that, according to Beck, we are now on the verge of World War III.

"It's the United States versus Russia," Beck declared on his radio broadcast today. "This is what all of us who are my age grew up worried about. This is it.  It's been a cold war. It's been a proxy war. It's been one where nobody really understands it yet. But I think you're about to.  I think this whole thing in the Middle East is the beginning of the end of the proxy war and the covert war. You're now going to see an openly hot war, I fear, and the beginning of World War III":

Bachmann: Immigration Reform 'Means You Don't Have A Future And A Hope'

Last month, the annual Eagle Forum Collegians Summit took place in Washington, DC where Birther crackpots like Jerome Corsi shared the stage with members of Congress like Michele Bachmann.

Bachmann spent a large part of her speech railing against immigration reform, telling the audience filled with college students that if any legislation passes, their taxes are going to skyrocket, the economy is going to collapse, and their futures are going to be destroyed.

"If you think taxes are high now," Bachmann warned, "get ready! This impacts you.  This means you don't have a job. This means you don't have benefit packages. This means you don't have a future and a hope."

Immigration reform should not be interested in being compassionate to those wishing to come here, she asserted, but rather focused on "America first; it's your life first and we've got to get our house back in order. That's what I'm elected to do: look out for the Americans who voted for me; my job isn't to look out for law-breakers who broke our law to come into the country":

Cruz: A Government Shut Down Is No Big Deal Because It Happens Every Weekend

Tea Party members of Congress like Sen. Ted Cruz are threatening to shut down the federal government in an effort to defund health care reform while, simultaneously, attempting to place the blame for any such shut down on President Obama.

Obviously, pulling that off successfully will require the creation of some pretty ingenious arguments, one of which Cruz tried out last week when he was interviewed on Newsmax TV where he asserted that the term "shut down is a misnomer; what it in fact is is a partial, temporary shut down" where "nonessential government functions are temporarily suspended.

"Now that's inconvenient," Cruz admitted, before adding "but we actually see that every single week on the weekends":

Beck: Obama And His Administration Are Sowing The Seeds Of A Race War

One of the great ironies of Glenn Beck's current trajectory is that he spends hours every week warning his audience that certain groups (e.g., progressives, unions, socialists, communists, Muslims, etc...) are working to divide the nation by blaming all of society's problems on other groups in order to implement their radical agenda ... while Beck's entire worldview hinges on the idea that it is these groups who are responsible for everything that is wrong with this nation.

Last night, he dedicated most of his program to laying out "The Anatomy of a Racist," and while he used Adolf Hitler, Louis Farrakhan, and David Duke as his examples, he was really trying to make the case that President Obama is following the same pattern.

On his radio broadcast today, Beck returned to the topic as he asserted that "many in this administration" fit this definition of racists, warning that they have been intentionally sowing the seeds to racial discord and are just waiting for the proper "crisis" to set off a race war:

Adams: Immigration Reform Will Lead To A Biometric Mark Of The Beast

Yesterday, End Times radio host Rick Wiles interviewed Cathie Adams, the former head of the Texas Republican Party and current president of the Texas Eagle Forum, in a wide-ranging discussion which included a warning that immigration reform would lead to biometric scanning which, as everyone knows, is a tool of Satan.

Adams warned that the problem is not just that Hispanics are crossing the border illegally, but so are people from Muslim nations and so if immigration reform passes, we'll be giving amnesty "to people who are not here with the best intentions for America."

After Adams said that the Department for Homeland Security is unable to account for more than a million foreigners who have overstayed their visas, Wiles predicted that immigration reform advocates would call for biometric scanning as a solution to this problem, which Adams declared would be an unmistakable sign of the End Times.

Then, for good measure, Adams returned to the issue of all those sneaky Muslims who are entering the United States as refugees "from Moozlum, Hindu, and Buddhist cultures [who] are not here because they love America but because they are fleeing countries, and yet, what kind of culture are they bringing here? They want sharia law, just like what they left that was causing them to be persecuted."

Because that makes perfect sense:

Adams: We have about 50,000 other than Mexicans who cross our border within one year. Those people that were apprehended were from countries like Indonesia, of course that a just very fierce fighting Islamic government. We have Pakistanis coming across, people from the Philippines, Somalia, Tunisia , Uzbekistan  ... we're going to be giving amnesty not just to poor Mexicans who are looking for jobs but we're giving amnesty, we're giving all of the American privileges to people who are not here with the best intentions for America.

We also have this issue of visas and we've lost, I think the latest nonsense I saw from the Homeland Security Department was something like a million people that have come here on visas that we have no idea where they are.

Wiles: Do you know where they're taking us with this? Because they said the solution to all these lost foreigners in the country, the solution is biometric scanning. That's where they're taking us Cathy.

Adams: I do understand that. I've seen it. I've heard it. And, of course, we know in biblical prophecy that that is the End Times. That is going to be the brand either on our foreheads or on the back of our hands.  That is demonic through and through.  That is End Times prophecy.  There is no question about that.

But, you know, another group of people that are coming into our country as refugees are others that are mostly from Moozlum, Hindu, and Buddhist cultures. There are people who are not here because they love America but because they are fleeing countries, and yet, what kind of culture are they bringing here? They want sharia law, just like what they left that was causing them to be persecuted.

Fischer: Gay Activists Should Support Russia's Anti-Gay Laws In The Name Of Diversity

The results are always interesting when Bryan Fischer thinks that he is being clever, as he was on his radio program yesterday when he spent a few minutes discussing Russia's recent ban on "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations around minors."

The discriminatory legislation has been met with outrage and protests around the world, but Fischer doesn't understand why since liberals and gay activists supposedly believe in diversity and, as such, they ought to be saying "hey, this is great!"

"We've got plenty of room in our multicultural world for all sorts of different cultural values and trends," Fischer mockingly proclaimed. "Isn't this wonderful what Russia is doing. Let's celebrate diversity and let's support this tradition in the nation of Russia":

Hagee: 'People Who Are Educated Cannot Look At Two Men Married And Say That That's Right'

Over the July 4 holiday weekend, Matthew Hagee delivered a sermon in which he attacked the Supreme Court over its DOMA ruling, outraged that, as a result, "newspapers carried cover pages with homosexual couples kissing on the front page, requiring parents to explain to their young children why two people would engage in such behavior."

Hagee went on to warn that there was an attempt underway to undermine faith, family, and education because people of faith know that Supreme Court rulings are only legitimate to the extent to which they agree with the Bible and because "people who are educated cannot look at two men married and say that that's right":
