In an attempt to outdo Sean Hannity’s efforts to turn George Zimmerman into a hero, WorldNetDaily’s Jack Cashill is now writing a book that paints the killer as a conservative idol.
“I’ve talked to his father and his brother and they said he’s just not the same person. I would say PTSD is probably a pretty good description of what’s going on,” Cashill told WND. “They took his job, took his marriage, the whole thing cost him tremendously and the media gloried in his screw-ups.”
Cashill said believes Zimmerman exhibited the thousand-yard stare, the limp, unfocused glaze of a battle-weary soldier that is often a symptom of PTSD.
Cashill said he believes the media and federal government’s relentless pursuit of Zimmerman drove the man to ruin his own life.
“Soon as the verdict came in, everything changed,” he said. “There’s a weekend of hubbub, but then they didn’t want to talk about it anymore. They didn’t want to revisit it because they know how guilty they are. His life is ruined by what they’ve done to him.”
Zimmerman is currently suing NBC for doctoring the 9-1-1 tapes from the night he shot Martin, which portrayed him as racially biased.
Cashill thinks they won’t stop pursuing Zimmerman until he meets a tragic end.
“I think they might not be satisfied until he kills himself or someone kills him,” Cashill grimly concluded.
“If I Had A Son” tells how for the first time in the history of American jurisprudence, a state government, the U.S. Department of Justice, the White House, the major media, the entertainment industry and the vestiges of the civil rights movement conspired to put an innocent man in prison for the rest of his life.
America Needs Fatima, a project of the right-wing American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property, is linking the tornadoes that hit Illinois this weekend to the state’s recent approval of a marriage equality bill. Robert Ritchie, the group’s executive director, is just asking the question:
Do you think the massive Illinois tornadoes are linked to the passing of the same sex “marriage” bill?
The massive tornadoes that hit Illinois after the passing of the same sex “marriage” bill, has stimulated many people to reflection.
In it, some see God’s chastisement; others see it as yet one more merciful warning from Providence; others yet deny both options and give various reasons.
What do you think?
Ritchie also offers a link to an America Needs Fatima article, “Is the Voice of God Resounding in the Recent Catastrophes,” which blames homosexuality for several natural disasters.
In an appearance on The Lars Larson Show last week, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) claimed that President Obama wants to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Bachmann called Wendy Sherman, the State Department’s lead negotiator with Iran, a “terrible negotiator” and said “her goal is to make sure that Iran has full ability to continue to enrich uranium and continue to stockpile it, they will have the full ability to create a nuclear bomb.”
“For some unknown reason the Obama administration wants the last country in the world that should have a nuclear bomb to get one,” Bachmann said. “Call your member of Congress, tell them ‘I want you to stop President Obama from giving the ability to have a nuclear bomb to Iran and that’s the bottom line of what’s happening here.’”
“It is treasonous and I think that’s why you hear more and more people calling for the impeachment of the President of the United States,” she continued. This isn’t the first time Bachmann has floated Obama’s impeachment.
Bachmann also seemed to suggest that North Korea developed nuclear capabilities under Obama even though its first nuclear test was in 2006: “Why do they want to allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, just like they did with North Korea? The Obama administration and Wendy Sherman in particular will have to answer that, I can’t. I don’t understand them, I don’t understand the thoughts and intentions of their heart.”
“What I do understand is that my children and your children and the children of all of your listeners have the goal of making sure that when they tuck their children in tonight, their children are going to be peaceful and sleep secure, and we will not have that dynamic if Iran obtains a nuclear weapon,” Bachmann said.
While Russia is experiencing an increase in violence directed at gay people and enacting new laws criminalizing pro-gay speech, US Religious Right activists Scott Lively and Linda Harvey are simply denying the prevalence of anti-gay violence. In fact, Lively is blaming other gay people for the uptick in hates crimes.
On her Saturday “Mission America” radio show, Harvey said that anti-gay violence in Russia has nothing to do with the country’s anti-gay laws, while Lively explained that actually the only violence occurring is “gay-on-gay crime.”
“Russia does have nationalists, these are Nazis, the same as I wrote in the book ‘The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality and the Nazi Party,’ that’s the same thing,” Lively said. “The guys that are beating up gays in Russia—and it’s not any more prevalent than it ever has been really and it isn’t all that prevalent at all—but the ones that are doing it are butch homosexuals who are beating up effeminate homosexuals, the same thing that happened in Germany; this is gay-on-gay crime, at least that is what it appears to be.”
Lively believes that gay people controlled Nazi Germany and launched the Holocaust in order to take revenge on Jews for viewing homosexuality as a sin.
Much like in “The Pink Swastika,” Lively offers no credible evidence to back up his claims that gays in Russia are facing violence from other gay people…other than his belief that anyone who is a Nazi must be gay.
Lively also said that he met with Russian Orthodox Church’s leadership to “pitch the idea of the Russians adopting the rainbow as a Russian symbol, a Christian symbol, reclaiming the rainbow and to do the Russian Olympics under the banner of the rainbow that says ‘the rainbow belongs to God.’”
“It looks like they are going to do that,” Lively continued. “Get all the pro-family organizations to come along to declare 2014 ‘The Year of God’s Rainbow’ and all of us adopt it—I’m wearing a pin right now that says ‘Reclaim The Rainbow: Ezekiel 1:28’—I think all of us should just start taking the rainbow, putting it on our webpages, wearing it and just take it away from them, it doesn’t belong to them.”
“Fabulous, fabulous, neither does the word gay,” Harvey added.
Lively said that while the “United States is becoming a gay Soviet Union” and “collapsing into totalitarianism with a heavy gay emphasis,” Russia is emerging as a great Christian country thanks to their laws suppressing gay rights.
“I’m taking some credit for this,” he said while describing his record of anti-gay activism in Russia.
Nicholas Stix of the white nationalist group VDARE thinks the US Navy has become nothing more than a “racial socialist welfare agency,” and is pointing to recent corruption scandals as proof that policies encouraging diversity are a failure. He says that the military is committing “unconstitutional discrimination against heterosexual, white men” and warns that, as a result, the Navy “will sink when it faces a real crisis—along with the future of the historic American nation.”
Of course, VDARE did not mention the two white admirals implicated in the scandal.
In what the Washington Post called the biggest bribery case “the Navy has confronted in years,” the skipper of a naval cruiser and a senior logistics officer allegedly gave classified information to a contractor regarding ship movements, in exchange for prostitutes, tickets to Lady Gaga concerts (!!!), and cash. The information, which imperiled national security, was allegedly used by the contractor to defraud the Navy (i.e., the white American net tax base) out of millions of dollars.
The two main defendants:
• Cmdr. Michael Misiewicz, code-name “Brudda, ”Cambodian birth name “Vannak Khem.” He was adopted by Army administrative assistant Maryna Misiewicz and benefitted from a Navy Affirmative Action program, with got a slot that should have gone to a qualified, white American… and (allegedly) paid back his adoptive country by selling it out.
• Leonard Francis, CEO of Glenn Defense Marine Asia, known widely as “Fat Leonard,” “Lion King” and “Boss,” is a Malaysian national based out of Singapore. Three others are also charged: senior logistics officer Cmdr. Jose Luis Sanchez; senior Navy investigator, Naval Criminal Investigative Service Supervisory Special Agent John Bertrand Beliveau II, who allegedly funneled inside information about the investigation to Francis; and Francis’ subordinate Alex Wisidagama.
The background: it is simply a fact is that the U.S. Navy now systematically discriminates against qualified white Americans in favor of politically protected non-whites. As Admiral Mike Mullen put it during his tenure as chief of naval operations, “diversity” is a “‘strategic imperative.’”
The inevitable result: declining standards. Back in 2009, Naval Academy professor Bruce Fleming blew the whistle on the Naval Academy’s radical dumbing-down on behalf of unqualified non-whites, writing: “Everyone understands that ‘diversity’ here means nonwhite skins”
… But Fleming’s expose resulted in no scandal—because our ruling elite doesn’t care about military preparedness, merit, or illegal, unconstitutional discrimination against heterosexual, white men.
Seventy years ago, the white, meritocratic U.S. Navy destroyed the Imperial Japanese Navy.
But, after two generations of peace, today’s Navy is simply the world’s most expensive racial socialist welfare agency.
Absent real change, it will sink when it faces a real crisis—along with the future of the historic American nation.
Last month, the International Olympic Committee announced that it would restore the sport of wresting to the docket for the Summer Olympics after a public outcry over its removal. Among those pleased by the sport’s return to the Olympics is Phyllis Schlafly, who, of course, blames “the feminists” for the sport’s original cancellation.
“The opposition to wrestling was probably coming from the feminists who do not excel in the sport of wrestling, and who dislike anything that is truly masculine, as wrestling certainly is,” Schlafly said in her radio commentary today.
She suggested that the Olympic Committee instead eliminate table tennis because “even I can play ping-pong.”
In reality, wrestling was originally chopped from the Olympics not because of the “feminist war against manly sports,” but because it was boring. According to the New York Times, “Olympic officials complained to wrestling officials that their ancient sport had antiquated leadership and matches that could be dull, with results not easily understood by spectators.” The sport will return with new rules changes to make it more palatable to TV-watching audiences.
This isn’t the first time that Schlafly has found feminist fault in the Olympics. Last year, she claimed that Title IX “weakened our competitiveness” at the London Olympics – where American women athletes excelled.
Several months ago, on these broadcasts I reported that the Olympic Games Committee was planning to eliminate wrestling as a competitive international sport in the next Olympic Games. I joined an international effort to get the Olympic Committee to change its mind. Of all the sports that could be eliminated, wrestling should not be one of them. Wresting has been an Olympic sport ever since the Olympic Games were started in ancient Greece.
The opposition to wrestling was probably coming from the feminists who do not excel in the sport of wrestling, and who dislike anything that is truly masculine, as wrestling certainly is. I'm happy to report that our campaign was successful and wrestling will remain as one of the sports in the Olympic Games.
If any sport could be targeted for elimination, I suggest ping-pong. I don't think that is really a sport worthy of inclusion. Even I can play ping-pong, and I'm no athlete.
The attempt to cancel wrestling was really a political decision rather than anything to do with athletics. Let's hope the public wakes up to the feminist war against manly sports and begins defending sports and exposing the nonsense of the feminists.
Larry Klayman predicted that his rally calling for the overthrow of President Obama would draw “millions to occupy Washington D.C.” and that those millions would “occupy parks, sidewalks, public areas” until the president leaves office. In the end, no more than a hundred people showed up for today’s big event.
Nevertheless, Klayman told Tea Party activists that he is still confident that the Reclaim American Now rally will force the president to resign and that grateful Americans will beseech Klayman and his allies to organize a new Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
Below are some of our favorite pictures from the revolution.

WASHINGTON – The Senate today failed to overcome a Republican filibuster of the nomination of Judge Robert Wilkins to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Only two Republican senators – Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska – voted for cloture on Wilkins’ nomination.
Republicans are also filibustering President Obama’s two other nominees to the court, Nina Pillard and Patricia Millett.
The Senate unanimously confirmed Wilkins to his current post on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 2010.
Marge Baker, Executive Vice President of People For the American Way, said:
“Just three years ago, Senate Republicans found Robert Wilkins perfectly qualified to be a federal judge. Now, they’re filibustering his nomination to the D.C. Circuit simply because they don’t want President Obama to be able to fill that court’s vacancies.
“This is the latest example of Republicans in Congress attempting to circumvent laws they don’t like simply by obstructing the workings of government. They shut down the government in an attempt to nullify the health care law. They routinely filibuster nominees to executive agencies and departments that they don’t want to function. And now they’re going after judicial nominees simply because they don’t like the result of last year’s presidential election.
“This is unacceptable. These nominees are not going away. I hope that when they have a chance to vote again on these three nominations, reasonable Republican senators will follow the lead of Sens. Collins and Murkowski and allow yes-or-no votes.”
The Associated Press reported last week on the efforts of Sheriff Adrian Garcia of Harris County, Texas, to prevent violence against the Houston county jail’s estimated 250 gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender inmates. The AP notes that while a number of major cities have taken similar steps, Harris County will be the first in Texas to implement such a program.
Naturally, the American Family Association and Eagle Forum are scandalized.
Under the headline, “Deputy, Ronnie is now called Regina: Jail enacts sexual orientation policy,” Charlie Butts, a reporter for the AFA’s OneNewsNow, interviews Texas Eagle Forum president and former Texas Republican Party chairwoman Cathie Adams, who claims that Houston’s mayor Annise Parker – who is openly gay – is behind the new policy.
Adams claims that Parker actually wants to leave LGBT people “more vulnerable to abuse” and that the policy “will eke into the community and set up a very tragic situation.” She suggests instead of allowing transgender people to identify as they choose, that the jail offer conversion therapy to transgender inmates; Butts claims, “The mental health field has an excellent track record in treating transgendered people to conform to their biological gender.” In fact, major medical groups including the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association oppose the practice of reparative therapy.
Cathie Adams, with Texas Eagle Forum, says Houston is being influenced by its mayor, Annise D. Parker, an open lesbian. The city needs a better role model, she says.
"Not a person who is going to leave them more vulnerable to abuse," says Adams. "And I'm very sorry to say, I think that is exactly what this policy will do, not just in the prison but of course it will eke into the community and set up a very tragic situation."
The policy also suggests that transgendered people can choose between male and female sections of the prison.
Adams calls that allowance "tragic," noting that a "man is born as a man."
Jailers must address the transgendered by their "chosen name" and include it on the bracelet, the AP also reported.
The mental health field has an excellent track record in treating transgendered people to conform to their biological gender. So Adams wonders why, if Houston wants to help jail inmates, they don't offer counseling instead of affirming their gender confusion.
Jailers fall under a "zero tolerance" rule for sexual misconduct or harassment toward LGBT inmates, which could include firing and criminal charges. It was unclear from The Associated Press story if those rules only apply to homosexuals.
Pastor Kevin Swanson mourned the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) in the US Senate by suggesting that it will lead to child abuse if the bill ever becomes law. He said parents will have to send kids to “sodomite schools [with] the Greek form of education where you know what happens in homosexual indoctrination.”
Later, co-host and pastor Dave Buehner added that America is now just “one small step towards putting the convicted pedophiles in charge of the daycare.”
Swanson: Friends, we’re getting to the point here where it may be a few family businesses and homeschools that would be able to keep homosexuals and homosexual indoctrination away from their children. Who knows? It may become extremely difficult to get your children out of sodomite schools or the Greek form of education where you know what happens in homosexual indoctrination. It may become more difficult for people to keep their kids away from this unless they’re able to homeschool their children and keep them out of schools where homosexual indoctrination and homosexual forms of laboratories are mandated in private and public schools in America.
Buehner: What’s shocking about this is this is just one small step away from, it’s a giant step towards and one small step towards putting the convicted pedophiles in charge of the daycare. That’s where we’re at.
Swanson: That’s the goal; that’s the goal.
Several fringe websites have picked up a video from YouTube savant Gabor Zolna about how “the half-baked African American Arab Muslim” Obama will use immigration reform to “bring in about 150 million Muslims” to the US as part of a plan to impose Sharia law and join the Caliphate. This is actually lower than anti-Muslim activist Avi Lipkin’s estimate that the President will bring in 50-100 million Muslims.
Naturally, Sandy Rios was asked on her show last week if Obama will in fact settle 150 Muslim immigrants in the US if a reform bill passes Congress.
Rios said that such claims make sense and that maybe the whole campaign for immigration reform is a Muslim plot.
The American Family Association radio host pointed to a Muslim organizer of DREAM Act activists as proof that “there’s no question that bad character Muslims, the Muslim Brotherhood and others, are going to use the whole amnesty problem that we have to bring in tons of illegal immigrant Muslims who don’t wish us any kind of good.”
UPDATE 11/19: YCT head Lorenzo Garcia has cancelled the “game” due to concerns “the university will retailate against [YCT] and the protest against the event could create a safety issue for our volunteers.” He said in a statement that he is “shocked” by the “truly disgraceful” protests against the “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game,” adding that he will not be “silenced.”
On Wednesday the University of Texas at Austin chapter of Young Conservatives of Texas (YCT) plans to host a “Catch an Illegal Immigrant Game.” According to its Facebook page, students will have to find a person “walking around the UT campus with the label ‘illegal immigrant’ on their clothing” and then turn that person in to a YCT table for a $25 gift card reward.
YCT will be having a "Catch an Illegal Immigrant" event this upcoming Wednesday. The details of the game goes as follows:
There will be several people walking around the UT campus with the label "illegal immigrant" on their clothing. Any UT student who catches one of these "illegal immigrants" and brings them back to our table will receive a $25 gift card.
The purpose of this event is to spark a campus-wide discussion about the issue of illegal immigration, and how it affects our everyday lives.
Last month, the same group hosted an Affirmative Action bake sale which charged students different prices based on their race and gender. Think Progress notes that other right-wing youth groups have hosted similar events in the past.
Americans For Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) leader William Gheen isn’t exactly known for restrained rhetoric against immigration reform. Gheen has compared immigrants to the 9/11 hijackers and labeled them “third world invaders.” He has even floated the idea of violent revolution against elected officials who want to "bring down" America through immigration reform.
In an email to supporters today, Gheen claims that Republican supporters of immigration reform, including Karl Rove, Michael Bloomberg and Lindsey Graham (with whom Gheen has an interesting history) have “blood on all of their hands” because of their support of “the costly and deadly illegal alien invasion of our American homeland.” In fact, Gheen writes, these Republicans have “hatched and executed” a “plot on our Republic.”
Gheen offers another thinly veiled hint at violence, saying he will use “what is left of our peaceful political systems” to “throw them down.”
If our plan to Stop Amnesty 2013 succeeds, these treacherous lawmakers' plan will be to lay low on the issue through the filing period to try to stop groups like us from generating the focus, interest, energy, and funds needed to mount organized primary challengers.
Over the next 3 days, you will be making it very clear to these illegal alien amnesty supporting lawmakers that we are organized and ready to take on Karl Rove, George Soros, Michael Bloomberg, Lindsey Graham, and every other supporter of the costly and deadly illegal alien invasion of our American homeland.
There is blood on all of their hands and we are going to use what is left of our peaceful political systems in America to throw them down despite their insane advantages of wealth and power!
As you read this e-mail, I am riding into Washington, DC, today to do my very best on your behalf.
Thank you so much to each of you who will support our ground effort with your calls. Thank you to all of the donors to ALIPAC who are making this lobbying trip to DC at a very important strategic time possible.
Let's all do our very best to defeat Amnesty and put those who hatched and executed this plot against our Republic on permanent retreat!
End Times broadcaster Rick Wiles recently spoke to a representative of the Zombie Response Team, which trains people to prepare for a zombie apocalypse in a non-ironic way, about the popularity of zombies and shows like “The Walking Dead.” While Wiles was skeptical of an imminent breakout of zombies, he did however point to a 2012 military training scenario which centered around a zombie invasion as proof that the government is up to something big, or not, he is just asking the question!
After Zombie Response Team co-founder Morgan Bernhart told him that headshots are the most effective way to neutralize a zombie, Wiles wondered if the military exercise means that maybe “the government is prepping the public for mass executions of people.”
“Once you get down this road of being bizarre there is no limit to how bizarre you can think, you know?” Wiles said. “I’m trying to figure out: What are they up to? What are they preparing for?”
Wiles: Morgan, if there really was a zombie apocalypse — whatever that is — if there really was one, what would have to be done with the zombies?
Bernhart: I mean it would really depend on what—
Wiles: If you got like five of them on your porch, what do you do with them?
Bernhart: Headshots, that’s all you got to do.
Wiles: Headshots, okay. So if there really is a zombie apocalypse, anybody who is infected with whatever is being labeled as zombieism, they will have to be executed, you can’t have any contact with them, they just have to be taken out.
Bernhart: Unfortunately, that would be the hard truth of it.
Wiles: So do you think there is a possibility that the government is prepping the public for mass executions of people?
Bernhart: I really couldn’t answer that. I don’t know.
Wiles: I’m just speculating. This is all so bizarre to me. Hey, if the government is dressing up like zombies and that’s bizarre then my scenarios can be bizarre too because they’re bizarre. Once you get down this road of being bizarre there is no limit to how bizarre you can think, you know? I’m trying to figure out: What are they up to? What are they preparing for?
Conservative columnist Mackbuin Thomas Owens writes in a Washington Times column published yesterday that women’s rights advocates are waging a “feminist attack on military culture” with their “recent moral panic over alleged rampant sexual assault in the military.”
“The charge of rampant sexual assault is only the latest campaign in a war on military culture,” he writes.
Owens claims that the figures on sexual assault in the military must be inflated because of a discrepancy between the number of people who said in an anonymous survey that they faced harassment and the number of official reports of harassment – a disparity that’s easily explained by the fact that many cases of harassment go unreported. He even claims that efforts to curb sexual harassment represent “the de facto criminalization of normal relations between the sexes of the sort that come about when young males and females are thrown into proximity.”
Essentially, Owens argues that feminists who believe women shouldn’t face discrimination in the military or sexual harassment are somehow hypocritical: “Are women ‘hear me roar’ Amazons, or are they fragile flowers who must be protected from ‘sexual harassment,’ encouraged to level the charge at the drop of the hat?”
Feminism is trying to yank the U.S. military in two directions at once. While claiming that women have no problem meeting the rigorous standards of the SEALs or infantry, advocates of opening these branches to women argue that female members of the military must be protected from the male sexual predators that, we are assured, are widely represented in the military. However, they can’t have it both ways. Are women “hear me roar” Amazons, or are they fragile flowers who must be protected from “sexual harassment,” encouraged to level the charge at the drop of the hat?
In her 2000 book, “Real Politics: At the Center of Everyday Life,” the late American political philosopher Jean Bethke Elshtain identified the two extremes of modern radical feminism: the “repressive androgynists,” who contend that there are no real differences between men and women, indeed that the idea that there are differences is an illusion fostered by a repressive patriarchy; and the “feminist victimization wing,” which paints the relations between the sexes as a continuous train of abuses by men who victimize women on a daily basis.
For two decades, these wings of feminist ideology have worked in tandem to sustain an attack on the culture of the U.S. military, culminating in the recent decision by the Pentagon to open infantry and special operations to women. In light of the argument that women are capable of performing these elite missions, it is indeed ironic that the wedge issues driving the military toward this end have come from the victimization wing, stretching from the “Tailhook” episode in 1991 to the recent moral panic over alleged rampant sexual assault in the military.
Let me be clear: There is absolutely no excuse for sexual assault. Period. There is no excuse for a superior who pressures a subordinate for sexual favors. Period. The data cited by the Pentagon creating widespread panic within the military are rendered suspect for two reasons. The first problem is methodological: The numbers — some 26,000 active-duty service members out of a population of 1.4 million claim to have been sexually assaulted in 2012 — are based on an anonymous survey. This number far exceeds reported cases of sexual assault.
The second and more significant problem is that the survey uses the term “sexual assault” in a way so broad as to render it nearly meaningless. Indeed, much of what is now covered by the Pentagon’s sexual-assault rubric represents the de facto criminalization of normal relations between the sexes of the sort that come about when young males and females are thrown into proximity.

Re: GOP Exceeds Expectations…on Executive Branch Obstruction
Earlier this year, People For the American Way released an analysis showing the unprecedented level of obstruction faced by President Obama’s nominees to the executive branch. At that time, 16 of the President’s nominees to the executive branch of government had faced filibusters from Republican senators and were the subject of cloture votes after Republicans refused to allow an up-or-down vote on their nominations. That number was on pace to reach 28 nominees by the end of President Obama’s second term.
Since then, things have only gotten worse.
In the last four months, eleven additional executive branch nominees have faced filibusters from Republicans intent on blocking their nominations. These include Fred P. Hochberg (Export-Import Bank President), Regina McCarthy (Environmental Protection Agency Administrator), Thomas Perez (Secretary of Labor), Kent Yoshiho Hirozawa (National Labor Relations Board member), Nancy Jean Schiffer (National Labor Relations Board member), Mark Gaston Pearce (National Labor Relations Board Chairman), Byron Todd Jones (Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives), Richard F. Griffin (National Labor Relations Board General Counsel), Alan F. Estevez (Assistant Secretary of Defense Logistics and Materiel Readiness), Katherine Archuleta (Director of the Office of Personnel Management), and Congressman Melvin L. Watt (Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency). Notably, the filibuster of Congressman Watt represented the first filibuster of a sitting member of Congress for an executive branch appointment since before the Civil War.
Importantly, the rate of obstruction has increased considerably, and Republicans are now on pace to filibuster a full 45 nominees before the end of the Obama administration in January 2017.
Not only do these filibusters hinder the work of a wide range of agencies and departments, they are also part of a larger Republican agenda to nullify existing laws through obstruction. Many of President Obama’s executive branch nominees have faced filibusters not because Senate Republicans objected to their personal qualifications, but because they do not wish to allow the agencies and departments to which they have been nominated to do their work.
This nullification strategy is part of the same wrong-headed philosophy that forced the government to shut down last month, and which is currently preventing three impressively qualified nominees for the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals from receiving confirmation votes.
The ultimate victims of Republican obstruction aren’t the Senate’s Democratic leadership or even President Obama, but the individual Americans who depend on a government that operates effectively and addresses the needs of real people.
Correction: This post was updated to include the filibusters of Fred Hochberg, Regina McCarthy, and Thomas Perez.
Larry Klayman is so confident that his “second American Revolution” will be successful that he has already planned a second Continental Congress to organize a new system of government. Klayman will lead a rally in front of the White House tomorrow, where he predicts that people will “converge on and ‘Occupy Washington’ in the millions” and that they won’t leave the city until President Obama resigns or the military forcibly removes him from office.
Writing in WorldNetDaily, Klayman predicts that “the tyrant evil fool in the White House” will “retire to his favorite golf course in Tehran” after Klayman’s Reclaim America Now putsch. Then the event will move to Philadelphia, where “delegates of the tea party and other patriots from all 50 states will deliberate, plan for the rest of the revolution and elect a government in waiting, ethically and competently poised to take over the reigns [sic] of a real government responsive to the people.”
Take our Reclaim America Coalition, for instance, which is proving to be a big success. For virtually the first time in modern history, we have assembled a host of conservative, libertarian and other public-interest groups and activists to work together for a common goal: to wage a Second American Revolution and peacefully and ultimately remove the tyrant evil fool in the White House, as well as corrupt Republican leaders like Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. This coalition is unique; for years I had been trying to get these groups and activists to work together, but ego and other cynical calculations got in the way. Now that the country is hanging by a thread, in the words of our great Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, we all realize that if we do not all hang together, we will hang separately under the oppressive and dangerous rule of our government leaders, of which Obama is the snake’s head.
Beginning at 10 a.m., Nov. 19, in the park just across from the White House, Lafayette Park (it is befitting of this French general who helped us whip Britain to gain our independence) that We the People, armed with courage and moral rectitude, as well as the divine grace of our Creator, will begin to fight back against government tyranny. We will not only serve notice that we will no longer endure tyranny from the corrupt leaders who have driven the nation to near destruction, by reading our renewed declaration of independence, but we will speak the truth about what needs to be done to right the ship of state for ourselves, our loved ones and to preserve the freedoms our Founding Fathers and their patriotic hordes fought and died for.
Coupled with this will be the masses who are being called to Washington for this non-violent uprising; we will serve testament to the onlooking nation and world that the people are in charge, not the likes of Obama and Boehner. If wise, the Mullah in Chief ultimately will retire to his favorite golf course in Tehran and the half-sober House speaker to his tanning salon in Georgetown.
Then, when our Reclaim America Now Coalition fires the first peaceful shots at “Lexington and Concord,” we will reconvene some weeks later in Philadelphia, at the City Tavern, which once accommodated the first Continental Congress, the one that gave us the original Declaration of Independence at Constitution Hall. There, delegates of the tea party and other patriots from all 50 states will deliberate, plan for the rest of the revolution and elect a government in waiting, ethically and competently poised to take over the reigns [sic] of a real government responsive to the people.
The Second American Revolution will succeed, because We the People will have the courage to make it so. And, to this end, I command you to join our forces, come to Washington, D.C., Nov. 19, 2013, attend the start of our Second American Revolution and make your voice heard. The time has come for action. The time is over for talk. Let us put both Obama and Democratic and Republican leaders out to pasture, where they can wallow in the manure they have encased us with, and let us reclaim our own destiny free from their political slime, incompetence and tyranny, so help us God!
Today’s Heritage Foundation event featured conservative evangelicals who are unhappy with other evangelicals who are promoting comprehensive immigration reform. Our “who’s who” of the speakers turned out to be a good guide to what they had to say. Speakers repeatedly (falsely) characterized the Senate immigration bill as “amnesty.”
James Hoffmeier, author of a book on immigration and the Bible, said he objects to people using the Bible to talk about immigration “the wrong way” and “misuse the scriptures to advance a cause.” He argues that undocumented immigrants are not the kind of people referred to in Bible verses about being welcoming to strangers.
Mark Tooley of the Institute on Religion and Democracy griped about mainline denominations demonstrating a lack of concern for border security. He credited evangelicals endorsing comprehensive immigration reform for citing a need for border security, but criticized them for supporting the “mass legalization” in the Senate bill, which he characterized as legalization first, border security later.
Kelly Kullberg organized Evangelicals for Biblical Immigration as a counter to the Evangelical Immigration Table, which energetically backs the Senate bill. She is also, like Tooley, a founder of Christians for a Sustainable Economy (CASE), a group that criticized Christians calling themselves the “Circle of Protection,” who had argued against cuts to federal programs that serve the poor. (In a letter to President Obama and congressional leaders, CASE asked, “Whom would Jesus indebt?” and declared “The Good Samaritan did not use a government credit card.”) Kullberg made similar points about the immigration bill, saying America is a “near-bankrupt welfare state living on borrowed money” and cannot afford “amnesty” and “an influx of foreign labor.” She said “Kindness to foreigners should not be theft or injustice to citizens.” She also said that nowhere in scripture do we see “blanket amnesty or asylum.”
Carol Swain, right-wing author and law professor, argued that Christians should support respect for the rule of law. Swain warned “We’re welcoming people who totally reject who we are as a people,” and said we create problems for ourselves “if we bring in people who are not easily assimilated.” She declared, “There is no place in America for Sharia law in the U.S. Constitution.” But Swain said she favors immigration reform if it is done the “right way” and encouraged people to read her book, Be the People, to find out how.
