Contempt for the Constitution Shows in Opposition to Adegbile

Today's shameful demagoguery against Debo Adegbile slights the constitutional protections that keep us free.

Phyllis Schlafly Applauds Stan Solomon's Homophobic Rant Against Obama

Eagle Forum head Phyllis Schlafly is quite taken with right-wing pundit Stan Solomon, and last week hailed an unhinged rant Solomon delivered against Muslim-Americans and President Obama.

“I don’t really give a damn if there are any Muslims here but if they are here and they don’t want to be Americans, then get the hell out, and the same for any other group,” Solomon said, before railing against the president. “Barack Obama is not an American, never has been, not in his actions, not in his speech, not in his politics and not in his birth.”

“And not in his baseball throw either,” cohost and former congressional candidate Steve Davis interjected.

“He’s a homosexual, always has been, is now, always will be,” Solomon continued. “That’s his right to be but this nonsense that somehow homosexuality is something equal to or preferable to is just wrong.”

Schlafly applauded his remarks: “Very well stated Stan, thank you for being a voice of truth and sanity on the air.”

Maybe Schlafly agreed with Solomon’s claims because she heard them before, as she was the guest on a previous edition of The Talk To Solomon Show on which Solomon said that “Barack Obama is a wussy guy who throws a ball like a girl, who everyone knows was involved in homosexuality and I think he is the stereotypical — if he could get away with it he’d be in drag.”

Right-Wing Smear Campaign Takes Down Civil Rights Nominee Debo Adegbile

The Senate today failed to invoke cloture on the nomination of Debo Adegbile to head the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. Every Senate Republican and seven Democrats voted to filibuster Adegbile’s nomination after a concerted right-wing smear campaign targeted the nominee. (Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also changed his vote to no as a procedural tactic.)

From the very beginning, the Right’s problem with Adegbile was that he would be a strong leader of an office that they despise. As we wrote in January,

Conservatives have not been fans of the civil rights division under the leadership of President Obama and Attorney General Holder, who installed now-Labor Secretary Tom Perez to restore the division to itsoriginal purpose after neglect under the Bush administration. In other words, President Obama has nominated civil rights advocates to the office and encouraged them to enforce civil rights measures….which is just too much for some conservative activists to bear.

So, opponents of the Civil Rights Division’s work went looking for reasons to smear Obama’s nominee to head it. Luckily for them, former Bush administration official J. Christian Adams, who specializes in concocting race-baiting stories made for Fox News (he’s the one who invented the New Black Panther Party freakout) was on the case.

Adams and his allies focused on Adegbile’s work at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, where he helped provide legal representation to Mumia Abu-Jamal, a convicted murderer whose sentence of capital punishment had been based on jury instructions that violated the United States Constitution. The court agreed and Abu-Jamal was resentenced to life in prison. As Adam Serwer writes today, it is hardly unheard of for executive branch and judicial nominees to have histories of representing unsavory clients – Chief Justice John Roberts, for instance, had done pro bono work on behalf of a man who had murdered eight people.

But the attack on Adegbile stuck, as Fox News called him a “cop killer’s coddler,” the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer devoted several segments of his program to attacking him, the Wall Street Journal editorialized against him (also attacking him for his work defending the Voting Rights Act), and Senators Pat Toomey and Ted Cruz publicly spoke out against him. In a speech on the Senate Floor yesterday, Cruz said that Adegbile’s work at LDF was “fanning…flames of racial tension.”

So now, the Civil Rights Division – which works to combat problems like housing and employment discrimination, protect voting rights, and ensure the rights of people with disabilities – continues without someone to head it. Which, of course, was the Right's goal all along.

PFAW Calls Senate Vote on Adegbile “A Triumph of Demagoguery”

Today the Senate voted to block the nomination of Debo Adegbile to lead the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice despite extensive qualifications, an extraordinary career and a record of commitment to civil rights. People For the American Way Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“This vote is deeply disappointing for anyone who cares about civil rights. There’s no question that Debo is extraordinarily well qualified for this position. He’s worked for years as a lawyer addressing important civil rights issues in our country, and he possesses an unquestionably brilliant legal mind. Someone like Debo Adegbile is exactly the kind of person that the President and the Senate should want in a key DOJ post.

“Unfortunately, this nomination has been swept up in the poisonous atmosphere that’s engulfed Capitol Hill. Instead of praising Debo for taking on important, challenging issues in our justice system, his opponents rushed to twist and distort his record.

“Attacking an attorney for representing an unpopular criminal client is a toxic strategy for winning a political fight and deeply disruptive to the American ideal of everyone deserving a fair hearing before a court of law. Today’s vote is a triumph of demagoguery.”

Tea Party Senate Candidate Tells Unemployed To 'Get Off The Sofa' And 'Hang Up Their Free Obama Phone'

The “Obama Phone” myth lives on in the candidacy of Milton Wolf, a Tea Party challenger to Republican Sen. Pat Roberts of Kansas, who also happens to be a distant cousin of the president.

At a campaign stop in Wichita last week, Wolf implied that unemployed people are lazy and don’t want to work, saying, “Those who can take care of themselves and choose not to, my message to them is simple. They should get off the sofa, they should hang up their free Obama phone and they should get a job.”

He also called President Obama “the worst president of our lifetime.”

The Wichita Eagle reported:

Addressing a crowd of about 50 people Thursday morning, Wolf called President Obama “the worst president of our lifetime” and pledged to work to repeal the Affordable Care Act and other Obama policies.

“I love the Lord our God, my firearm of choice is the Ruger SR-556, and I have hatred toward no man, only toward bad government that will destroy our freedom and destroy our future,” he said.

Wolf sparked applause and several shouts of “Amen!” from the crowd when he said people should work if they’re able.

“Those who can take care of themselves and choose not to, my message to them is simple,” he said. “They should get off the sofa, they should hang up their free Obama phone and they should get a job.”

Wolf’s comments echo those of another Tea Party senate challenger, Lee Bright of South Carolina, who in December said that unemployed able-bodied people “shouldn’t eat” and dusted off the old “welfare queen” myth, saying, “We’ve got a lot of people who won’t work. And they won’t work because we’ll provide their food, and we’ll provide their housing, and we’ll provide some spending money. We’ve all seen it, the folks in line who are using [food stamps], yet they’ve got the nicest nails and the nicest pocketbook and they get the nicest car.”

Stockman: 'We Have The Skill Set To Win Again, So We'll Be Back'

Rep. Steve Stockman lost badly in his primary election against Sen. John Cornyn yesterday, takingjust 19 percent of the vote. But the congressman told WorldNetDaily that he only lost as a result of Cornyn’s hefty financial advantage and promised that he would be back:

“It’s not what we wanted, but he had $14 million,” Stockman told WND just minutes after polls closed. “I don’t think we could honestly compete with that. We tried, though.”

But he told WND, “Quite frankly, we took on a huge challenge, and we did fairly well. We still have the skill-set to win again, so we’ll be back.”

Stockman added, “I’m a fighter. I’m not going to stand down. The difference between a winner and a loser is whether you get back up. And I’m going to get back up.”

Of course, Stockman ran a pathetic race ridden with dishonest campaigning, bizarre legal threats and fake endorsements. One Tea Party group called Stockman’s campaign the “laziest statewide campaign to date,” as the congressman didn’t seem to actually campaign outside of Twitter and misleading mailers.

The only real source of Stockman’s support seemed to be the far-right website WorldNetDaily.

When he announced his campaign, we dubbed Stockman ‘the congressman from WorldNetDaily’ -- he has embraced many right-wing conspiracy theories promoted by the site and sent copies of their book on President Obama’s impeachment to every member of Congress.

WND, in turn, went above and beyond to help Stockman.

WND senior reporter Jerome Corsi endorsed Stockman and produced a video attacking Cornyn as a “RINO.” He later wrote an article for WorldNetDaily called, “Famous Republican About To Fall Out Of Sight?,” that praised Stockman and harshly criticized Cornyn as a phony conservative.

Other pro-Stockman articles in WorldNetDaily included “Titanic Republican Shift In Key Senate Race” and “Conservative Launches ‘Cruz’ Missile To Torpedo GOP Bigwig.” And just look at how WorldNetDaily announced Stockman’s defeat: “This time, Goliath beat David.”

Maybe Stockman was so confident about his chances against Cornyn because his entire campaign seemed to exist in WorldNetDaily’s alternate reality.

AFA's McCullough: Putin Invaded Crimea As A Result Of Military Drag Show, US 'Sissification'

Apparently, Benghazi didn’t cause the Ukraine crisis after all. American Family Association radio host Kevin McCullough said yesterday that Russian president Vladimir Putin decided to seize Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula as a result of a drag show fundraiser on a US military base in Okinawa.

McCullough said Putin feels he can “get away” with his invasion of Crimea “because of what he has seen disintegrate culturally right in front of everybody’s eyes in the US” along with “the sissification of our military.”

“Putin looks at the US and we’re having drag shows on our bases,” McCullough continued. “Do developments like this have anything to do with making our military leaders look less impressive in the eyes of the world? For instance, does Mr. Putin sit there and go, ‘Yeah, I’m not going to do anything Obama says because number one, he can’t keep his word, and number two, your military is now having drag shows on its bases.’”

Feder: Gays In The Military, 'Armed With Vibrators,' Greater Threat Than Putin

World Congress of Families spokesman Don Feder writes today in the American Thinker that gays and lesbians in the military, Muslim executive branch officials and a president who’s not “an American in the White House,” threaten American interests more than Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Feder writes that he doesn’t blame Putin for resisting Ukraine’s moves toward EU membership, because that implies a “willingness to accept same-sex ‘marriage,’ abortion on demand [and] an anti-religion ethos.” A parallel situation in Canada would bother us too, Feder writes. “It would, that is, if there was an American in the White House.”

Feder goes on to list what he actually sees as a “threat to America,” including “Muslims in the Obama White House,” because “a Muslim who takes his religion seriously must put loyalty to Dar al-Islam above allegiance to an infidel state.”

Another “threat” he sees to America is the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: “If Putin doesn’t take us seriously, is it any wonder?... Perhaps we could deploy an elite unit, armed with vibrators, to the Crimea to counter Spetsnaz commandos.”

Putin is a power player who cares more about Russia’s national interests, and Russian minorities in his near abroad, than in that mythical force known as world opinion. Would that America had a president who cared more about our interests than in promoting globalism and the left’s social agenda.

The Russian-backed government in Kiev came to power democratically, but was ousted by the Maidan mob. We’re told that the interim government is pro-Western and pro-EU.

When Reagan was president, the expression pro-Western meant something. It meant pro-representative government, pro-human rights and pro-Western (Judeo-Christian) values.

Today, it means a willingness to accept same-sex “marriage,” abortion on demand, an anti-religion ethos – the agenda of the EU’s cultural commissars  -- and the economic dictates of the Brussels bureaucracy.
Putin doesn’t want to see the EU -- and, possibly, NATO --- on his doorstep. Do you blame him? If someone overthrew a democratically elected, pro-American government in Ottawa and replaced it with an interim regime hostile to our interests, that contained neo-Nazi elements and which immediately moved against English-speaking Canadians, it would irritate us too. It would, that is, if there was an American in the White House.

But don’t I care about a possible Russian annexation of the Crimea and Eastern Ukraine (with its Russian-oriented, Orthodox population), conservatives who are still fighting the Cold War ask me? Not really. I’ll tell you what does concern me:

...

Obama’s life style-friendly military -- If Putin doesn’t take us seriously, is it any wonder? The headline in the March 2 Stars and Stripes beams: “Gay, lesbian troops perform in drag at Kadena Air Base” in Okinawa. The publication disclosed that the drag show was “in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered troops.” Doubtless, this will do much for the morale of the non-LGBT troops. But as then-Army Chief of Staff George W. Casey, Jr. said at the time of the Ft. Hood massacre (which the administration still refuses to call a terrorist incident), diversity is the New Action Army’s most important product. Perhaps we could deploy an elite unit, armed with vibrators, to the Crimea to counter Spetsnaz commandos.

Muslims in the Obama White House -- including Arif Alikhan (Deputy Executive Director for Policy in DHS), Mohamed Elibiary (Homeland Security Advisory Council), Rashad Hussain (Special Envoy to the deeply anti-Semitic Organization of the Islamic Conference), Imam Mohamed Magid  (Obama’s Sharia Law advisor, on loan from the Islamic Society of North America, with its Brotherhood ties) and Eboo Patel (on the Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighborhood Partnerships). A Muslim who takes his religion seriously must put loyalty to Dar al-Islam above allegiance to an infidel state.

Obama’s metastasizing autocracy -- We fret about democracy in the Ukraine while Obama treats the Constitution as a series of suggestions. For the president, the three branches of government are him, his pen and his telephone.

Putin is a strong man. Obama is a weak man (except when it comes to bullying our allies). Obama venerates multilateralism. Putin is willing to go it alone. Obama is committed to the entire LGBT agenda (including gay “marriage”). He’s also the only sitting president to address Planned Parenthood, such is his commitment to abortion without borders. Putin believes the foregoing is the road to national annihilation.

Where does the threat to America lie?

Larry Pratt Glad Members Of Congress Have A 'Healthy Fear' Of Being Shot

Speaking with Cincinnati radio host Bill Cunningham on Sunday, Gun Owners of America director Larry Pratt delightedly told a second-hand story about of a member of his group lobbying a congresswoman, who reportedly told the GOA member, “You want to shoot me, don’t you.”

Pratt said he didn’t think this man actually wanted to shoot the congresswoman, but added, “that’s probably a healthy fear for them to have.”

“You know, I’m kind of glad that’s in the back of their minds,” he said. “Hopefully they’ll behave.”

Cunningham: Larry Pratt of Gun Owners, why does the media have such a bias against the Second Amendment?

Pratt: They, I think they might understand what it’s real purpose is. And its real purpose is to serve as a restraint on government abuse. And since they want to be involved in government abuse, they kind of take it personally, I think. The Second Amendment is intended for people just like them  –  or perhaps we could say, like Piers Morgan – those who were born to rule and we were born to be ruled. And for us to have guns kind of upsets that order of things that they think ought to be. So I think they take it very personally.

I was told of a conversation that one of our members had had with a member of Congress. And he was lobbying on a gun issue, but he was, I knew the guy well enough to know that almost certainly he was mild-mannered, he was just explaining our position. And apropos of nothing, the congressman – congresswoman, actually – said, ‘You want to shoot me, don’t you.’

Well, that’s probably a healthy fear for them to have, even though that’s not the guy’s – he wasn’t saying anything about that, it wasn’t in his demeanor. But you know, I’m kind of glad that’s in the back of their minds. Hopefully they’ll behave.

Republican Congressman Threatens Civil Disobedience On Romeike Case

The Home School Legal Defense Association announced today that the Romeike family, the German homeschoolers who lost their petition to have asylum in the US, will be granted “indefinite deferred status” by the Department of Homeland Security.

While Religious Right activists like HSLDA head Michael Farris blamed President Obama personally for the Board of Immigration Appeals decision not to grant the Romeikes asylum status, we aren’t holding our breaths for them to thank the Obama administration for the DHS’ decision.

Fox News commentator Todd Starnes, for one, is still milking the case for all it’s worth.

The Fox pundit today published an interview with Republican congressman Phil Roe, who told Starnes that it may take “civil disobedience” to prevent the Romeikes from facing deportation. Roe added that he blames Attorney General Eric Holder for the initial Board of Immigration Appeals decision, calling Holder “one of the most dangerous people in the country.” The congressman also described the Obama administration’s stance as un-American.

Roe, ironically, is a vocal opponent of immigration reform and the DREAM Act.

Farris, for his part, told Starnes that Tennesseans will organize like Rosa Parks to defend Romeike family, and one Republican state lawmaker called the case an “attack” on “Christian values.”

Southern Baptist Convention spokesman Roger Oldham added that the Romeikes are only facing legal problems because “this family is the antithesis of this administration’s political agenda – a heterosexual married Christian couple desiring to teach their biblical values to well-grounded children.”

Christians in an east Tennessee community are vowing to engage in civil disobedience if the Obama administration initiates deportation proceedings against a Southern Baptist family from Germany who sought asylum in the United States so that they could home school their children.

“It may require civil disobedience with this bunch,” said Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.), who represents the congressional district where the Romeike family lives.

“I am furious about this,” the congressman told me. “You’ve got law-abiding people who did everything right who simply want to home school their kids. We used to be that great shining city on a hill. There’s some rust on that city if we are doing free people this way.

Rep. Roe told me the Justice Department needs to “butt out.”

“I don’t know what the Germans are thinking, but we’re not Germany,” he said. “I don’t want to be Germany. I don’t want to be Europe. I want to be America. And right now we’re not acting very much like the America I know with the administration we have.”

Roe called Attorney General Eric Holder “one of the most dangerous people in the country” and called his department’s assault on the Romeike family “appalling and worrisome.”

“The Romeikes have become a part of our family,” said Dean Haun, the pastor of First Baptist Church of Morristown, where the family attends. “I don’t think there’s any question that there will be some people who will be willing to stand with them to the very end – even if it means our imprisonment.”

The Southern Baptist pastor said should that day come, he would be counted among the local residents willing to go to jail to save the family from deportation. “If that’s what it took, yes,” the pastor said. “This is an assault in the face of Christianity in America.”

Roger "Sing" Oldham, a spokesman for the Southern Baptist Convention, told me he was deep distressed by the Obama administration’s actions.

“I’m not sure what’s more chilling – that this administration views their presence in rural east Tennessee as a threat to our nation’s economic and political well being or that this administration lobbied to deport this family to a nation determined to coercively indoctrinate the children in government sanctioned ‘tolerance’ training,” Oldham said.

Oldham said the case is simply perplexing.

“This family is the antithesis of this administration’s political agenda – a heterosexual married Christian couple desiring to teach their biblical values to well-grounded children,” he said. “For whatever reason, our government does not want them in our nation.”

State Rep. Tillman Goins told me the community is “up in arms.”

“Everybody in Morristown knows the Romeike family,” he said. “You have a family who is doing it the legal way, taking every legal step they can to ask to come to this country and to participate as citizens in this country – only to be persecuted by the United States.”

Goins introduced a resolution calling on Tennessee’s congressional delegation to defend the family.

“I don’t know if all religious liberty is under attack in this country,” he said. “It seems like Christian values are under attack more than any other religion.”

Should the day come when the immigration agents show up to take the family away, Goins said he would meet them at the front door.

“Let’s hope that it doesn’t get to that point,” he said. “(But) should it come down to it – absolutely.”

Farris predicted that if the Romeikes are deported, it would spark a movement among religious liberty supporters.

“If they come for this family, it’s going to ignite a movement that’s going to be the same as when they told courageous Rosa Parks to go to the back of the bus and she wouldn’t go,” Farris said.

“I think we may be approaching a similar moment in our country.”

Tomczak: God Punishes Gays & Lesbians By Making Them 'Effeminate' Or 'Mannish'

Pastor Larry Tomczak wrote a column in Charisma yesterday touting a video that he says “every person in every church needs to watch.” The video in question is a recording of a sermon/PowerPoint presentation on the subject of homosexuality given by none other than Larry Tomscak.

In the sermon, Tomczak claims that we are “in a civil war” surrounding gay rights, promotes the “ex-gay” movement, and repeats myths about how people “become gay,” including, “spousal and child abuse; media influence, pornography; absence of a father; childhood experience; experimentation; seduction and molestation by peers or authority figures; [and] misunderstanding ‘artistic’ bent.”

He later goes into the reasons he opposes same-sex marriage, including claiming that God is punishing gay men and lesbians by making them “effeminate” or “mannish.”

Tomczak cites Romans 1:27 to claim that gays and lesbians “receive in their own bodies the penalty for their sin.”

“Folks, I am not in any way being insensitive here,” he says, “but I have watched people go into a lifestyle, and all of a sudden they become – a man starts to become very effeminate – mannerisms, speech. I’ve seen the reverse, I’ve seen the same thing with women start becoming mannish. What’s going on? They’re taking in their bodies a penalty for deviating from God’s loving design and plan.”

Bachmann: American Jews 'Sold Out Israel' To Help Obama; Bible Predicts US Will Turn Against Israel In End Times

Speaking with Family Research Council head Tony Perkins yesterday, Rep. Michele Bachmann warned that President Obama is “threatening Israel,” and by doing so is fulfilling biblical prophecies and bringing about the End Times. The Minnesota congresswoman told Perkins that Obama is pressuring Israel to “give up its land to terrorists” allied with Al Qaeda, which will lead to a “final war, destroying and reducing to rubble Israel.”

“That’s in the natural, I just believe that as believers in Jesus Christ who see the authority of scripture, I believe that the Lord and his strong right arm will have Israel’s back and will be her protector,” Bachmann said. “The question is, will we as the United States cooperate in standing with Israel and blessing Israel, or will we join those nations that come against her? We are definitely on the wrong side. It is jaw dropping, it is stunning, it’s breathtaking.”

The congresswoman was echoing an End Times belief that holds that a massive battle will take place in Israel, triggering the Last Days.

Bachmann also skewered the Jewish community in the US for its wide support for Obama. She said that Obama “was helped enormously by the Jewish community,” who she says care more about supporting Obama than Israel:

The Jewish community gave him their votes, their support, their financial support and as recently as last week, forty-eight Jewish donors who are big contributors to the president wrote a letter to the Democrat [sic] senators in the US Senate to tell them to not advance sanctions against Iran. This is clearly against Israel’s best interest. What has been shocking has been seeing and observing Jewish organizations who it appears have made it their priority to support the political priority and the political ambitions of the president over the best interests of Israel. They sold out Israel.

Bachmann further alleged that “President Obama has allowed Israel to realize its worst nightmare” by “threatening Israel.”

She agreed with Perkins’ claim that Obama is forcing Israel to “surrender,” and said that Israel “couldn’t stand” under a two-state solution.

She said that the Bible predicted Obama’s actions: “The nations of the world will come against Israel and the scripture very specifically says all nations, now for the United States we don’t have that experience until recently under President Obama with the United States not standing with Israel.”

In a previous interview with Perkins, she said that Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry are “calling for actual war and economic war against Israel, or at least suggesting it as such.”

Burress: 'Many Homosexual Men Have As Many As Two Hundred Sex Partners'

Yesterday, we reported that Ohio anti-gay activist Phi Burress appeared alongside Linda Harvey to criticize gay rights advocates as “bullies” who seek to “brainwash” Americans.

Later in the show, the Citizens for Community Values president told Harvey that “many homosexual men have as many as two hundred sex partners.” Brurress cited the gay rights group Lambda Legal to back up his claim, but he is most likely referring to “The Lambda Report,” a newsletter distributed by the virulent gay rights opponent Peter LaBarbera.

Harvey agreed with Burress’ wild assertion and insisted that gay rights groups “push kids to early sexual behavior.”

Burress also criticized the plaintiffs who are challenging an Ohio law that prohibits same-sex couples from adding both names to their child’s birth certificate.

“This defies common sense,” Burress said, joking: “It’s like I’m going to take my cat and try to get a dog license for it, and when they tell me, ‘No that’s a cat,’ I’m going to say, ‘No it isn’t, it’s a dog,’ and see what they say.”

“Did the world stop and start spinning backwards or something?”

BarbWire: Stop 'The Gayification Of Professional Sports'

Liberty Counsel attorney Matt Barber’s new website, BarbWire, today ran an article, “Michael Sam, Jason Collins & The Gayification Of Professional Sports,” which warned that by accepting openly gay athletes like Sam and Collins, professional sports leagues are “becoming just another venue for breeding and promoting selfish, shallow professionals.”

BarbWire contributor Tom O’Toole was especially upset by Sam’s announcement, lamenting that “we see the rare heroism of a born leader being frittered away, a young man being deceived by everyone from the president on down into believing his sin is his glory, his shame is his fame.”

In the rough and tumble world of professional (and big-time college) sports, where until recently it was at least okay to be wary of gay teammates in the locker room, we now find that all bets of rational natural decency are off. First, when former University of Missouri football star, Michael Sam, declared himself “gay and proud of it,” we found both politicians and athletes alike falling over themselves to sing his praises first. Then, after 35-year-old NBA journeyman Jason Collins (who previously received MSM hero worship last season when he was released from the Celtics and came out of the closet), actually got a gig with the New Jersey Nets recently, he received standing ovations in arenas around the league, surely the most acclaimed 10-day contract player ever in the history of the NBA. But while these men may indeed be heroes (even to devout Catholics!), it’s up to Christians everywhere to point out to the young and impressionable, that they are being worshiped for the wrong reasons.

Getting back to my first point, with the secular deification of Collins and Sam, it seems that not only will a male Christian athlete get vilified as a homophobic if he objects to homosexuality in principal, he no longer can even question the place of a nude gay man in the largely straight guy shower. Since both Collins and Sam admit to being attracted to men, you would think it common sense that a straight man wouldn’t want to show off the parts that gays are particularly attracted to, especially in close quarters. Does this also mean that if a college man is allowed to play on a women’s sports team since that sport is not offered to men–also once thought wacky, but recent court decisions don’t agree–that women are supposed to be accepting of his naked presence in the shower/locker room while they are also undressing? Fortunately, most female athletes I talked to still are freaked out over this potential invasion of modesty, but there’s something fishy when the natural attraction to the opposite sex can be objected to in the locker room, but the unnatural attraction to the same sex cannot.

For Sam to overcome his parents’ separation, to watch one older brother die from a gunshot wound, see two other brothers go to prison and another disappear, never to be found…is a lot to expect any kid to endure and not lose hope. Now add to this his sister dying in infancy, plus being homeless and living out of his mother’s car, and Sam still being mentally tough enough to become not only the only kid in his family to attend college, but earn All-American honors in football, and that’s about as heroic as it gets. Ironically, it is the one thing for which society praises him most–that is, being an active open homosexual–that is about the only thing for which he is not a hero. And that statement is not according to me or Fox TV, but to God and His Only begotten Son.

That is why Michael’s descent is so tragic, for we see the rare heroism of a born leader being frittered away, a young man being deceived by everyone from the president on down into believing his sin is his glory, his shame is his fame. In the meantime, sports, once one of the greatest avenues for both molding and inspiring selfless young heroes, is now becoming just another venue for breeding and promoting selfish, shallow professionals. And that, my friends, is nothing to cheer about.

The Cost Of Being Kris Kobach’s Guinea Pig

Yesterday, Kansas secretary of state Kris Kobach suffered a double setback when the Supreme Court refused to hear appeals of decisions striking down two local anti-immigrant ordinances that Kobach had written and shepherded through the courts. Now, both towns are facing the possibility of paying legal fees for opponents on top of years of legal costs that they had already incurred.

Kobach was behind an ordinance in Farmers Branch, Texas, that required people to prove they were in the country legally in order to rent a home and one in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, that would have penalized people who rent to or employ undocumented immigrants. Both ordinances were struck down by federal courts, and neither town succeeded in appealing those decisions to the Supreme Court.

In August, the Dallas Morning News reported that Farmers Branch, a town of 29,000 people, had already spent $6 million defending the law since it was first passed in 2006, and expected to pay $2 million in legal fees for its opponents if it lost in the courts. The town has already been forced to cut back in other areas of its budget in order to keep up with the costs of defending the ordinance, despite a $500,000 contribution from real estate heir Trammell Crow.

Meanwhile, Hazleton reported last year that it had spent nearly $500,000 on legal fees since 2006, financed mostly from donations from an online fundraising campaign, along with a $50,000 gift from Crow. But the Hazleton Standard Speaker reports today that the city’s legal defense fund has dried up and it’s facing the possibility of paying millions of dollars in legal fees for civil rights groups that challenged the law. The town of 25,000 faces these costs on top of a pension fund deficit of over $28 million.

Even Kobach-backed ordinances that fare better in the courts can still present huge costs for cities that take up his anti-immigrant crusade. Residents of Fremont, Nebraska, voted last month to keep a similar Kobach-written anti-immigrant ordinance after it was upheld by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Since the ordinance was first passed in 2010, the town raised its property taxes in order to set aside $1.5 million to pay legal fees and implementation costs; the town also risks losing millions of dollars in future federal grants.

While Kobach uses small cities to push his anti-immigrant experiments, those cities are forced to foot the bill as they work through the courts. The cities sometimes even pay for Kobach's services. The Southern Poverty Law Center noted in 2011 that "Kobach has said that he normally charges about $50,000 a year to defend his ordinances against legal challenges. He described that rate as under market and said he wants to ensure 'the cities can afford it.'"

States that push Kobach's harsh anti-immigrant laws have also faced enormous costs. Arizona spent millions of dollars defending SB1070 before it was ultimately largely struck down by the Supreme Court, and lost an estimated $23 million in tax revenue and $350 in direct spending from a resulting economic boycott.

Kobach’s home state is hardly immune from this either – state election officials are now facing the possibility of having to set up a dual elections system in which 15,000 voters caught up in Kobach’s voter ID plan will be allowed to vote only in federal elections – a costly bureaucratic nightmare.

Robertson: First Cousins Can Marry As Long As They Avoid Having 'Some Mongoloid Child'

Today on the 700 Club, Pat Robertson said that the Bible does not prohibit first cousins from marrying, but advised prospective first-cousin spouses to speak first to a genetic counselor. He then drew upon an offensive term for people with Down syndrome and disabilities.

“You don’t want to have some mongoloid child,” Robertson said, but he quickly backtracked after co-host Terry Meeuwsen caught him. “I shouldn’t say mongol.”

Farris: Obama Wants To 'Crush Religious Freedom,' Would Have Deported The Pilgrims

UPDATE: After trashing the Obama administration, Farris announced today that "a Supervisor with the Department of Homeland Security called a member of our legal team to inform us that the Romeike family has been granted 'indefinite deferred status.'"

Fox News commentator Todd Starnes is furious that the Romeike family, a family that left Germany for Tennessee over disagreements with German homeschooling laws, has lost its petition for asylum. And of course, Starnes and Michael Farris, who has been representing the Romeike family, blame President Obama.

The Supreme Court yesterday denied an appeal by the Romeikes of a Board of Immigration Appeals ruling that found that they are not eligible for asylum.

The Sixth Circuit ruled against the Romeike’s petition last year, with Judge Jeffrey Sutton — a George W. Bush appointee — finding that “the German authorities have not singled out the Romeikes in particular or homeschoolers in general for persecution.” Conservative legal commentator Eugene Volokh notes that a ruling in favor of the Romeike family would effectively give asylum to anyone who disagreed with their home countries’ laws.

But Farris isn’t having any of it, claiming that the Obama administration seeks “to crush religious freedom” and would have deported the pilgrims: “Had this administration been waiting at Plymouth Rock, they would’ve told the Pilgrims to go back home.”

Starnes, meanwhile, seems to think that undocumented immigrants in America, unlike the Romeike clan, do not want legal status in the US: “There are nearly 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. You’d think the Obama administration could find a place [sic] eight immigrants who want to live here legally.”

“I think this is a part of the Obama administration’s overall campaign to crush religious freedom in this country,” said Michael Farris, chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association. His organization is representing family.

“The Obama administration’s attitude toward religious freedom, particularly religious freedom for Christians is shocking,” he told me in an exclusive telephone interview. “I have little doubt that if this family had been of some other faith that the decision would have never been appealed in the first place. They would have let this family stay.”

Had the family stayed in Germany, where homeschooling is illegal, they would have faced the prospect of losing their children. Like the Pilgrims, they fled their homeland yearning for a place where they could be free.

Farris said the religious bias perpetrated by the Obama administration is “palpable.”

“It’s a denial of the essence of America,” he said. “The Pilgrims left England to go to Holland to seek religious freedom. They came here to seek religious freedom and parental rights for their children. Had this administration been waiting at Plymouth Rock, they would’ve told the Pilgrims to go back home.”

There are nearly 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. You’d think the Obama administration could find a place eight immigrants who want to live here legally.

Farris said the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the case sends a chilling message to Americans who currently home school their children.

“This administration thinks it’s a privilege to home school – not a right,” he told me. “We’d better buckle down and be ready to fight them every step of the way.”

Please, Mr. President, have mercy on this Christian family. They came to our shores longing to be free. They left their homeland to escape religious persecution. Please, sir. Welcome them to our land with open arms. Bestow upon them a small measure of grace so they might be able to raise their children in the land of the free, the home of the brave.

Michael Farris' Ironic Plan To Remake The Supreme Court

Homeschooling advocate Michael Farris has a new campaign, the Convention of the States Project, which seeks to introduce a constitutional convention to “stop the federal spending and debt spree, the power grabs of the federal courts, and other misuses of federal power.”

He told WorldNetDaily yesterday that the federal government “will most certainly destroy American liberty relatively soon,” and that states must be able “to impeach federal officials from their states.”

Farris also said that the Supreme Court should be replaced by a system of “50 justices and have the states appoint the justices for a specific term (six or eight years) with no right of reappointment” that is modelled after the European Court of Human Rights.

This is more than a little ironic since Farris regularly criticizes the Supreme Court for citing international law, including cases from the European Court of Human Rights. But Farris himself is now proposing “reconfiguring the Supreme Court after the model of the European Court of Human Rights” in order “to ensure a constitutional government.”

“If we allow Washington, D.C., to continue on its current course of big government, it will utterly destroy American liberty. Debt is the most tangible method of destruction. But big government complete with spying on the American public, the improper use of executive orders, over-regulation, etc., etc., will most certainly destroy American liberty relatively soon.”

“State legislatures currently have no power to impeach federal officials from their states. This is not a viable option. This would, however, be a proper amendment to suggest at the Convention of States we are proposing. I like the idea of giving the state governments the power to impeach congressman and senators from their states,” Farris said

Another possibility?

“The federal courts regularly refuse to rule on constitutional issues they want to avoid by calling them ‘political questions’ or by claiming that no one has standing to sue … One of my ideas for an amendment would be to automatically grant state legislatures standing to challenge any action of the federal government as violating its constitutional limitations,” he said.

There also could be a fix to the problem of an entrenched Supreme Court.

“I [would] propose reconfiguring the Supreme Court after the model of the European Court of Human Rights. There are 46 nations in that court’s jurisdiction, and every nation appoints one judge. We should expand the Supreme Court to 50 justices and have the states appoint the justices for a specific term (six or eight years) with no right of reappointment. That one change would do more to ensure a constitutional government than anything I know,” Farris said.

WND: 'You Can Make A Black Woman The First Lady, But That Doesn't Mean She Will Have Any Class'

WorldNetDaily’s Mychal Massie writes today that the new nutrition facts label championed by Michelle Obama is proof that she’s a “bigoted, racialist” first lady who is “usurping authority and inflicting additional financial injury upon an already suffering people.”

Massie claims the cost of the program will add “more unnecessary financial burden” to families; in fact, the New York Times reports that in total, “the health benefits could eventually be as much as $30 billion.” Citing an article from the tabloid the National Enquirer about the first lady’s “disgusting” and “privileged position,” Massie writes that Michelle Obama should “stick to doing jumping-jacks and writhing around on the floor of Ellen DeGeneres’ set, much to the delight of DeGeneres.”

“It proves that you can make a black woman the first lady, but that doesn’t mean she will have any class,” he concludes.

Michelle Obama was not elected to office, and while, by definition, her husband did not usurp the position he dishonors, his bigoted, racialist wife is usurping authority and inflicting additional financial injury upon an already suffering people.

…

Now she is adding more unnecessary financial burden to already suffering families. The cost of implementing the sweeping labeling changes she is responsible for is well over a billion dollars, and that is just a low-ball estimate to silence the critics. The final cost of implementing the labeling changes she is forcing the FDA to make, I submit, will be north of $2 billion – all of which will be passed back to you and me, the consumers.

As the wife of Obama, the first lady is able to enjoy the spoils of his position, but, as I pointed out in a previous column, the DailyMail.com reported a top source “told the National Enquirer that [Michelle is] disgusting. Michelle is taking advantage of her privileged position while the most hardworking Americans can barely afford a week or two off from work.” (See Michelle Obama: First Lady of Spending Taxpayer Money,” Jan. 31, 2014.)

…

It would be barely tolerable if Michelle Obama would stick to doing jumping-jacks and writhing around on the floor of Ellen DeGeneres’ set, much to the delight of DeGeneres. After all, who wouldn’t want the first lady of the United States wallowing around on the floor of their nationally televised talk show? It proves that you can make a black woman the first lady, but that doesn’t mean she will have any class.

American families do not need the additional financial burden her labeling edict brings. The American people need for the Obamas to be gone.

Burress: Gay 'Bullies' Attack People Until Same-Sex Marriage Is 'Forced Down Their Throat'

Phil Burress of the Ohio-based Citizens for Community Values says that despite the attempts by gay rights advocates to "brainwash" people into support marriage equality and have the issue "forced down their throat," people intrinsically oppose same-sex marriage.

Burress, who encouraged Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) to put his son in ex-gay therapy, of course would never support such brainwashing!

He told Mission America host Linda Harvey on Saturday that the polls, such as one showing a majority of Ohioans supporting marriage equality, are skewed because surveys may not be able to register the sentiments of people who oppose same-sex marriage but won't say so because they are afraid of getting "harassed" and "beat up on" by gay "bullies."

Burress insisted that people "know in their heart" that same-sex marriage is wrong, while Harvey added that they also "know that homosexual behavior is really, essentially, disordered."

Burress: This is a hard issue. That's why from 2004-2013, in just about every poll that I've seen there's only about 6 percent on average, 6 percent of the people that don't have their mind made up on this issue. People know in their heart that there's something wrong with this picture and they're adjusting their heart. The 6 percent are being swayed with TV ads, propaganda, radio, all the media, and I find it absolutely encouraging that after all of this time that's been going on and people have been brainwashed and this has been forced down their throat that they're revealing a poll that only 47 percent of the people support same-sex marriage.

...

Burress: In just about every election, we always do better at the polls than what the polls say when it comes to support of marriage of one man and one woman. I had a long conversation with George Barna last November out in San Francisco, I said: "George, when you do these polls, do you keep track of how many of these people refuse to answer a question?" I think you're going to have more people who will not answer a question about where they stand on same-sex marriage than other questions because they're afraid. They're afraid they're going to be harassed and they're going to be beat up on and they're going to be, you know -- that's their tactic, they're bullies Linda, they're bullies, that's how they got to where they are. You cannot win in the long term being a bully, it just doesn't work. You gotta to win with logic and you gotta change people's hearts and in their hearts they know that marriage is between one man and one woman.

Harvey: And they know that homosexual behavior is really, essentially, disordered.
