PFAW Applauds Proposed Constitutional Amendments to Reverse Citizens United

WASHINGTON –Today two constitutional amendments aimed at undoing the harm caused by the Supreme Court in a series of cases, including Citizens United v. FEC – which held that corporations have the right to spend unlimited amounts of money influencing elections – were proposed by Senators Tom Udall (D-NM) and Jon Tester (D-MT).

Marge Baker, Executive Vice President of People For the American Way, released the following statement:

“A constitutional amendment is the only way to completely reverse the damage done to our democracy by the devastating Citizens United decision and related cases. No one takes amending the Constitution lightly, but there have been multiple moments in American history where the people have had to collectively undo the harm done by the Supreme Court when it acts against justice, democracy, and the common good.

“Americans' voices are being drowned out by huge corporations and wealthy special interests. We are heartened that these senators understand the need for a constitutional amendment to take our democracy out of the hands of corporations and wealthy special interests  put it back into the hands of everyday people, where it belongs.”

Across the country there is unprecedented public support for this type of reform. To date fifteen states and more than 400 cities and towns have called for a constitutional amendment overturning Citizens United and related cases.

Robertson Bewildered by Women in Combat, Blames Feminists

On today’s 700 Club, Pat Robertson took issue with the military’s plan to allow women to begin training for the Navy SEALS and Army Rangers. After CBN reporter Lee Webb noted the failure of four women to pass the Marine’s training course in Quantico, Va., Robertson commented: “Well, I was trained at Quantico; I didn’t think it was all that demanding but I’m not a lady…. The SEAL team training is ungodly difficult, why would a woman want to go through that?” But Robertson knows who is to blame for women in combat training: feminists.

“The feminists are going to have their way,” Robertson lamented, while co-host Wendy Griffith warned that the sexual attractions between men and women could distract service members from their objective of protecting America.

VDARE: Immigration Reform 'Practically Guarantees a Never-Ending Terrorist Threat'

VDARE’s James Kirkpatrick — whose bio simply reads, “James Kirkpatrick travels around the United States looking for a waiter who can speak English” — writes that immigration reform will “facilitate the Third World invasion” and “practically guarantees a never-ending terrorist threat.”

Fearful of the “the U.S. government's fanaticism in allowing in ever more Muslim immigrants,” Kirkpatrick claims that the government is “scheming to inflict tens of thousands of Syrian aliens on helpless American towns and cities” and encouraging “mass immigration of hostile Third Worlders.”

The government, Kirkpatrick writes, is treating “the historical American nation” as “the enemy” and will create a “permanent national security state.”

The government has met the enemy and it is us—the historic American nation.

Washington's long war on its own people has broken into the open, with reports that the National Security Agency, among others, has been spying on the phone calls and emails of American citizens. But at the same time, the Amnesty Establishment and its lackeys in the GOP claim that it is simply impossible to enforce immigration laws, deport illegals, or even build a border fence.

The simple truth: the feds can accomplish a lot if they want to—but reading your emails is higher on their priority list than fulfilling the fundamental responsibility of government.

Like Graham, Rubio claims that the government simply “can't deport millions.” But he has seemingly infinite faith in the right of the federal government to monitor American communications without a warrant. He claims it is “simply a reality” because “The threat that we face—largely radical, political Islamists—is probably a threat that is going to exist for the rest of our lifetimes.”

Of course, the reason this threat exists—aside from our adventurist foreign policy, which Rubio supports—is because of the U.S. government's fanaticism in allowing in ever more Muslim immigrants. Even now, as it becomes clear that the American government is backing a losing effort side in Syria, the State Department is scheming to inflict tens of thousands of Syrian aliens on helpless American towns and cities. But the Obama Administration—with the help of collaborators like Rubio—is simultaneously halting background checks on immigrants so as to facilitate the Third World invasion.

So much for preventing terrorism.

Arguing against Senator Rand Paul, McCain argues that America is a battlefield. Thanks to his de facto open borders policy, he's right.

Speaker John Boehner, fresh from his daughter's wedding to a dreadlocked Jamaican pothead, announced that he would do his best to make sure the Republican House would not oppose an immigration bill and would debate it. He chirped happily that they could have a bill by the “end of the year.”

Furthermore, mass immigration of hostile Third Worlders practically guarantees a never-ending terrorist threat—which of course provides further justification for the permanent national security state libertarians claim to oppose.

The Amnesty Establishment and its apologists are a comically obvious example of what the late Sam Francis called “anarcho-tyranny”: the government cracks down on law-abiding citizens while blithely ignoring (and even encouraging) criminality, parasitism, and outright treason.

Beck: Immigration Reform Advocates Practicing KKK-Style 'Domestic Terrorism'

Whatever you think of the decision by Kansas immigration reform advocates to hold a peaceful protest outside of Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s house this weekend, you could probably agree that there is a significant difference between the protesters – pictured here – and the Ku Klux Klan.

But not if you’re Glenn Beck. Beck was scheduled to interview Kobach on his program yesterday, but Kobach had to drop off the call due to technical difficulties. So Beck winged it, showing a video of the protest and asking, “What’s the difference between that and the Klan coming to Martin Luther King’s house?”

“This is not just domestic terrorism, this is civil rights stuff,” he added. “This isn’t America. This is old-style South kind of tactics.”

Responding to the protest yesterday, Kobach said the “mob” at his house is the “reason we have the Second Amendment” and worried that the protesters could have tried to break in.

UPDATE: Beck finally got on the phone with Kobach, who agreed with him about the demonstrators: “They’re just not wearing white cloaks, but this is exactly KKK type of intimidation."

MassResistance: Kissing 'Provoked' Violent Anti-Gay Attack in Moscow

MassResistance is celebrating the approval of harsh anti-gay legislation in Nigeria and Russia, and even blaming gay rights advocates for a brutal attack they suffered in Moscow. The group cited an Associated Press article about the Russian bill, which bans gay “propaganda” and gay rights material, and a vicious attack against opponents who were staging a “kissing rally”:

Before the vote, gay rights activists attempted to hold a "kissing rally" outside the State Duma, located across the street from Red Square in central Moscow, but they were attacked by hundreds of Orthodox Christian activists and members of pro-Kremlin youth groups. The mostly burly young men with closely cropped hair pelted them with eggs while shouting obscenities and homophobic slurs.

Riot police moved in, detaining more than two dozen protesters, almost all of them gay rights activists. Some who were not detained were beaten by masked men on a central street about a mile away.

But according to MassResistance, such violence was “provoked by homosexual activists,” who were only kissing.

“[M]any countries are starting to recognize the destructive aspects of the homosexual movement and taking concrete steps to deal with it,” the group writes. “Although in some cases the punishments are more draconian than Westerners are comfortable with, there is a sense that these nations do not want their cultural decisions dictated by the United States and other Western countries.”

The anti-gay organization even credited Scott Lively, who also helped craft anti-gay laws in Uganda, for the Russian legislation:

The Russian parliament (the Duma), voted 436-0 for a bill which bans giving information on homosexuality to minors or holding "gay pride" rallies. It is expected by insiders to pass easily in the upper house and be signed by Vladimir Putin. Just before the vote, homosexual activists held a public "kiss-in" outside the parliament building, which incited a heated reaction by traditionalists who were also there.

The bill is a culmination of events going back to 2007, when Massachusetts-based Pastor Scott Lively went on a 50-city speaking tour of Russia on pro-family issues. Lively subsequently published a widely distributed open letter to the Russian people warning them about allowing the homosexual agenda to become "mainstream" in that country.

Obviously, it is unfortunate that there was violence over this, though apparently it was provoked by homosexual activists.

It's expected that the United States, Britain, and other Western countries, which have formal foreign policies calling for protection of homosexual activism throughout the world, will announce their intention to impose sanctions or other action against Russia over this. It would appear that the Russians aren't worried about it.

As we reported last week regarding the recently passed bill in Nigeria outlawing homosexual activism, many countries are starting to recognize the destructive aspects of the homosexual movement and taking concrete steps to deal with it. Although in some cases the punishments are more draconian than Westerners are comfortable with, there is a sense that these nations do not want their cultural decisions dictated by the United States and other Western countries.

Anti-Bullying Protections Headed to Senate Floor

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is expected to bring the bill to the floor but has not released a date. People for the American Way will continue to monitor ESEA’s progress and the anti-bullying provisions it contains.

Charisma: Gays Will Destroy America Like Nazis in Germany

Responding to the White House’s LGBT Pride celebration, Pastor Larry Tomczak in Charisma magazine maintained that gays and their allies are putting America “on the path to destruction.” Tomczak writes that events which “brazenly celebrate, legitimize and promote the gay lifestyle in America” are part of the country’s “downward spiral” and gay “tsunami.”

After the pastor shared a story about how his father-in-law, a veteran of World War II, confronted his church for not speaking out more aggressively against homosexuality, Tomczak drew parallels between gays in America and Nazis in 1930s Germany: “It would do us well to recall that in Nazi Germany, only a small percentage of the people were part of the Nazi party. Amid the atrocities, the overwhelming majority were apathetic and afraid to speak up…. Is history repeating itself?”

Observing the president of our United States on Thursday in the White House, kicking off the official celebration of "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Month," he was introduced by two 9-year-old girls celebrating their lesbian mothers.

Flanked by a smiling Vice President Biden, President Obama then called out individuals with gay backgrounds amid applause. Finally, he reaffirmed his commitment to same-sex marriage and gay initiatives in America. This coincides with his administration releasing directives so that individuals will be forced to affirm homosexuality in the federal government. Remaining silent will be seen as discrimination and put their jobs in jeopardy.

Last week in Washington, D.C., was the giant gay pride event. This week it comes to Nashville, Tenn. These events are taking place all over America to brazenly celebrate, legitimize and promote the gay lifestyle in America. Having attended multiple events like this to share the gospel over the past decade, I can assure you there are parades, but they're not G-rated. Although children are everywhere, nudity, profanity, debauchery, drunkenness and drug abuse abound.

What is happening to our United States of America?

1. The downward spiral described in Romans 1 is unfolding before our eyes in this great country. Refusing to honor and give thanks to God, we are being turned over to our own self-indulgence, which takes us on the path to destruction unless there is revival.

A few days ago, my wife's father, who is in his early 90s, spoke something to me that had tremendous impact on my life. He is a committed Christian, an elder and part of what is oftentimes called "the Greatest Generation" due to their courageous stand against the Nazis in World War II. Joe and Anne have been married 68 years!

He's never done this before, but he said he had a prophetic word to share with me. The core of it: "Why are leaders in our churches and ministries afraid to speak up in a charitable way concerning what's happening regarding homosexuality today?"

It would do us well to recall that in Nazi Germany, only a small percentage of the people were part of the Nazi party. Amid the atrocities, the overwhelming majority were apathetic and afraid to speak up. Consider the consequences.

Is history repeating itself?

It is imperative that those of us who are authentic Christians come to grips with the reality and urgency of this hour. We are in a tsunami! Our ship is filled with holes; the mast has fallen off; the navigation system has gone awry; and many of our leaders are nowhere to be found or strangely silent.

The opposition is not ashamed. The clock is ticking. A third Great Awakening awaits all of us if we respond to His prompting in this day.

Rep. McClintock: One out of Three Americans Doesn't Understand the 'Value of Freedom'

Last week, Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA) and conservative talk show host Lars Larson discussed the congressional hearings into alleged IRS targeting of conservative group, and Larson said it was “crazy that there are people from the other party that just don’t seem to get it.”

The congressman explained that “one-third of the population sometimes just never understands the value of freedom,” reminding Larson that “during the American Revolution, one-third of the population were ardent Tories.” He continued in warning that the people enchanted by the “siren song of benign, all-powerful government” could jeopardize the country’s future.

Pratt to Headline Event Hosted by Holocaust Denier Who Thinks Israel Was Behind 9/11

How will you be spending your Fourth of July? Gun Owners of America head Larry Pratt will be spending his with former congressman and convicted felon Jim Traficant and former congresswoman Cynthia McKinney at an event hosted by the Holocaust-denying frontman of an anti-government rock group with ties to the Hutaree militia.

The anti-Semitic weekly American Free Press reports that Pratt, Traficant and McKinney are all signed up to speak at the southeastern Pennsylvania “Freedompalooza,” hosted by Paul Topete. Topete heads the rock group Poker Face, which got national attention in 2010 when the Anti-Defamation league reported that it had licensed a song to and defended the violent right-wing Hutaree militia. Topete himself is an unabashed anti-Semite who, according to the ADL, once called the Holocaust “one of the largest if not THEE largest scam every played on humanity” (sic).

Topete’s anti-Semitic view of world history doesn’t stop there. He has also claimed that “the Rothchilds set up the Illuminati in 1776 to subvert the Christian basis of civilization.”

Responding to the ADL’s report, Topete’s band issued a statement saying, “We are not anti-Semitic, but, we will shine the spotlight on those of Jewish faith who use their heritage to escape criticism, especially when it comes to crimes against this country, but also against their own people.” In the statement, the group also doubled down on its speculation that Israel was behind the 9/11 attacks: “Was Israel involved? It’s not beyond the scope of reasonable doubt.”

Topete is so extreme that, according to an NAACP report, his band has “been kicked off venues at Rutgers University in 2006 and a Ron Paul campaign event in 2007.”

In 2010, the Colbert Report reported that now-Sen. Rand Paul attended a gun rally where Topete threatened an armed revolt against the government.

Pratt, who has been credited with bringing down background checks legislation in the Senate, has a history of ties to unsavory characters. In 1996, he was forced to step down as a co-chair of Pat Buchanan’s – Pat Buchanan’s — presidential campaign when it was discovered that he had delivered an address to a group of neo-Nazis, shared a stage with an Aryan Nation official, and served as a contributing editor to an anti-Semitic publication.

Rep. Rohrabacher: Rubio Can't Be Trusted, Boehner Should Lose Speakership over Immigration Bill

Adding to the conservative backlash against Sen. Marco Rubio’s involvement in creating the Senate immigration reform bill, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher said the Florida senator has “given up his place to advise any of us in Washington what to do and given up any right to be trusted by the American people.” The California Republican told WorldNetDaily radio that Rubio’s pro-reform remarks have included “contradiction after contradiction; lie after lie,” insisting that “no one should believe him.”

With conflicting reports as to whether Speaker John Boehner will let the House vote on a reform bill even if the majority of Republicans don’t support it, Rohrabacher argued that Boehner “should be removed as speaker” if he allows such a bill to reach the floor over his supposed “betrayal” of Republicans and the American people. Rohrabacher said America will be “suffering consequences of fifty million new people heading in our direction” if the bill passes.

Tell Congress: Pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA)

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) is a very basic, commonsense measure that would protect LGBT Americans against the very real discrimination many of them face in the workplace -- one that the public overwhelmingly supports.

Repeal the PATRIOT Act

No administration should be trusted with such broad and loosely defined power to spy on Americans.

Kobach Tells 'Mob' that Protested at His House: 'There's a Reason We Have a 2nd Amendment'

Yesterday, a group of about 100 supporters of comprehensive immigration reform staged a protest at the house of Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, who has been a driving force behind anti-immigrant laws around the country. By all accounts, the protest was peaceful: a short video of the event shows protesters carefully staying off the grass as they repeat the chants of a man with a bullhorn.

But Kobach, who was not at home at the time, tells Fox News' Todd Starnes, “I shudder to think what would have happened if one of those members of the mob had tried to break into the house.”

He added that he would have considered using a firearm against the protestors: “It’s important we recognize there’s a reason we have the Second Amendment. There are situations like this where you have a mob and you do need to be able to protect yourself.”

Starnes reports that Kobach told him  “a large number of the protesters were believed to be illegal aliens."

“I was just appalled,” Kobach told Fox News. “They have a right to protect at my office or at public places – that’s fine. But they don’t have a right to enter someone’s private property and engage in this kind of intimidation.”

“I have four little girls and they would have been terrified to see 200 protesters shouting at their daddy on megaphones on the front lawn,” he said.

The secretary of state said a large number of the protesters were believed to be illegal aliens. They can be seen on video chanting in Spanish, standing on Kobach’s porch, front yard and driveway and demanding that he come outside.

Kobach said he was especially troubled to learn that it took police at least 15 minutes to respond to his house.

“You have a mob of 200 people gathering on someone’s property and it takes the police 15 minutes to get there,” he said. “That doesn’t give you a whole lot of confidence either. I shudder to think what would have happened if one of those members of the mob had tried to break into the house.”

He also feared what would have happened had he been home with his wife and four young daughters.

“On a typical Saturday, my four girls would have been riding their bikes and coloring chalk in the driveway,” he said. “That’s where they play. If four buses pulled up and the mob started marching down upon them, they would have been absolutely terrified.”

The secretary of state is a staunch supporter of the Second Amendment – and he said the incident at his home is an example of why Americans should bear arms.

“If we had been in the home and not been armed, I would have felt very afraid – because it took the police 15 minutes to show up,” he said. “It’s important we recognize there’s a reason we have the Second Amendment. There are situations like this where you have a mob and you do need to be able to protect yourself.”

He said had they been home and the mob had gotten out of hand, his family would have been in “grave jeopardy.”

“The Second Amendment is the private property owner’s last resort,” he said.

Kobach said he’s asked local police and the county attorney to investigate the incident. He believes a number of laws were violated including terrorizing a public official.

Knight: Immigration Reform Will Lead to 'One-Party Rule and Socialism'

With Religious Right activists increasingly torn over the debate on immigration reform, American Civil Rights Union senior fellow and Washington Times columnist Robert Knight is warning Republicans of grave consequences if they support the bipartisan Senate bill.

He claims that offering a pathway to citizenship for “unregistered Democrats” means that the GOP will commit “political suicide”: “flooding America with millions more people who have no understanding of constitutional, limited government is a fast track to dependency, one-party rule and socialism.”

The bill would have to go to a House-Senate conference committee, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid would almost certainly trash border enforcement and ensure mass amnesty for an estimated 11 million illegal aliens, also known as “unregistered Democrats.”

On immigration, the best thing the House could do right now is nothing. The immigration “crisis” did not emerge overnight, and it will take years to sort out. The United States needs a secure border and hard-working, legal immigrants, not anarchy. But Democrats and big-business Republicans are hoping to stampede the House GOP leadership into committing political suicide. Flooding America with millions more people who have no understanding of constitutional, limited government is a fast track to dependency, one-party rule and socialism.

The immigration gambit is part of an overall political game plan that has become strikingly obvious:

Print billions of dollars to keep Wall Street happy while the Main Street economy caves under the weight of thousands of new regulations and impending Obamacare taxes. Issue misleading reports about unemployment that seriously underestimate the number of people out of work.

Make as many people dependent on government as possible. Begin by adding millions of people to achieve a shocking 50 percent increase in food-stamp recipients.

Finally, rely on the media to pretend that the growing abuses of power in Washington, including the Benghazi, Libya, killings and cover-up, the IRS scandal, Fast and Furious, and the NSA’s massive personal-data grab, have nothing to do with “the most transparent administration in history.” These are the people we’re supposed to trust on immigration reform.

What’s that? The media are ticked that the Justice Department seized Associated Press reporters’ phone records and labeled Fox News reporter James Rosen as a possible criminal co-conspirator?

They’ll get over it. Or maybe they’ll start doing their job, such as reporting the real costs of illegal immigration.

Supreme Court Upholds Voting Rights in Arizona Proof-of-Citizenship Case

The Supreme Court issued 7-2 ruling in favor of voting rights today, finding that a restrictive Arizona law requiring that voters show proof of citizenship when registering by mail is preempted by federal law. The court upheld Arizonans’ right to register to vote by mail using a federal form created by the 1993 “Motor Voter” law, which allows voters to certify under oath that they are citizens. Arizonans will not have to submit information that the federal form does not require.

PFAW Foundation joined in an amicus brief in the case, Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council of  Arizona, on behalf of its Young People For program.

The Arizona law, which would have required voters to present one of a narrow set of documents proving citizenship in order to register to vote, would have impeded the voting rights of countless Arizonans. As Demos put it:

Many eligible citizens do not possess these narrow forms of documentation required by the law and, of those who do, many  do not carry them while conducting their daily affairs.  Community-based registration efforts overwhelmingly rely on approaching individuals who did not plan in advance to register at that time or location and who are thus unlikely to be carrying a birth certificate, passport, or other documentation.

Even when a potential registrant does happen to be carrying one of the required documents, logistical hurdles—ranging from an inability to copy documents on the spot to an unwillingness to hand over sensitive identification documents to registration drive volunteers—greatly hinder the ability of community-based organizations to register people in Arizona.

The Supreme Court has yet to issue a decision in the other major voting rights case on its docket this term, the constitutionality of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act.

Conservative Group Warns of Divine Punishment for Obama's LGBT Pride Event

Government Is Not God PAC has issued a warning to President Obama over his ceremony marking LGBT Pride Month, warning that “his goal of normalizing homosexuality in America” will not go unpunished. The group urged Obama to read what “the Lord Jesus Christ said about those who defile children: ‘But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.’”

President Barack Hussein Obama and Vice President Joe Biden spent last Thursday celebrating “gay pride” at a White House ceremony – a ceremony that included two young twin girls who are being “parented” by two lesbians.

Obama used these twins as props in his effort to maintain his “gay” political base. During the ceremony, he announced that another lesbian judge had been confirmed by the Senate to serve in a lifetime post on the federal bench. Lesbian Nitza Quinones Alejandro will serve on the federal court in Pennsylvania. She’s the first openly lesbian federal judge and the fifth one to openly homosexual serving in the federal court system.

According to Obama: “From Minnesota to Maryland, from the United States Senate to the NBA, it’s clear we’re reaching a turning point” in his goal of normalizing homosexuality in America.

In a special video on LGBT Gay Pride Month, Obama praised “gay” leaders who had “bent the arc of the moral universe towards justice.” That’s a clever way of saying they have turned morality upside down and violated God’s moral laws in pushing for the normalization of homosexual sex acts.s [sic]

Obama, who claims to be a Christian, might want to read Romans 1:18-31.

And, he might want to read that the Lord Jesus Christ said about those who defile children: “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” – Matthew 18:6.

Murray: Gays are 'The Most Violent of the Abusers of Children in Our Society'

Like other conservative writers, William Murray sees the 1950s as a utopian age, only to be ruined by struggles for civil rights later on. He writes today in WorldNetDaily that America is now suffering the consequences of conservatives having “lost’ the culture war “in the 1960s in the midst of bean bag chairs, lava lamps, cheap wine and marijuana smoke” to the left and the gays.

Murray laments that while gays are “the most violent of the abusers of children in our society,” they “are treated as a protected class” and helped usher in America’s “moral decline.”

He also blamed Social Security and Medicare for society’s ills—again—and declared that Obamacare is “the final blow” to the American family.

Loving Christian couples often cannot adopt children in the current culture because they are declared bigots for not accepting anal sex as normal. Homosexuals, the most violent of the abusers of children in our society, are treated as a protected class. State welfare offices pay women not to marry the fathers of their children, and the elderly receive funds to disengage from their children and grandchildren and move to warmer climates.

Courts have ruled that a girl 13 or younger can buy an abortion drug – the “morning after” pill – over the counter, and use this powerful drug without permission of parents or a doctor.

During the 1960s, the drug and “gay” counter-culture of San Francisco flourished, and nude bathing at a park in Austin, Texas, began. New York City in the 1960s was far worse than portrayed in the movie “The Cross and the Switchblade”; the city was a hell hole on the edge of bankruptcy. Anti-war protests encouraged by money from the Soviet KGB filled the streets of cities with angry youth, and a communist by the name of Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated President John F. Kennedy.

The first major blow to the family was Social Security, the second Medicare and the third welfare. These programs drove Grandma and Grandpa out of the home and to Florida. Free from the responsibility of caring for aging parents, the “me generation” was able to concentrate on pleasure and material success. Religion was seen as simply an impediment to pre-marital sex, divorce, alcohol, drug use, gambling and materialism. The final blow is Obamacare, which takes away even the responsibility of caring for children from families. The safety net is so broad that the family is simply no longer necessary.

Yes, I am very politically incorrect to those on both sides of the fence. The left will say I am gay bashing and against the “progress” of individual freedom from moral restraints and economic worries. The social conservative right will say I have abandoned prayer for our schools. Neither view is true. I am simply being honest about the date the cultural war was lost. The drift to defeat did not begin with the removal of prayer from the schools. The cultural war was lost in the 1960s in the midst of bean bag chairs, lava lamps, cheap wine and marijuana smoke. That loss has led America to its current financial, political and moral decline.

Derbyshire Blames Military Sexual Assaults on 'Eccentric' Women Perpetrating 'Victim Hoaxes'

Fired former National Review writer John Derbyshire is trolling us again, this time with a remarkable essay in Taki’s Magazine about how the military shouldn’t be concerned with rising numbers of sexual assaults because they are the fault of “eccentric” women who are  “prone to behave eccentrically”…and anyway, “There is an entire continuum of consent.”

“Let’s talk about the ‘sexual harassment’ panic that is currently gripping the West,” Derbyshire implores, followed by a series of points in which he argues that the military shouldn’t be concerned about a rising incidence of assault and harassment in its ranks. (Emphases are mine).

(3) Women are strongly attracted to higher-status men. If male officers are in command of units containing women, human nature is placed under severe strain.

(4) Men who join the military are responding to widespread, innate male urges—the urge to break things and kill people, for example. Women who join the military are, by contrast, outliers in their sex. They are eccentric and prone to behave eccentrically. As a designated victim group, they are especially susceptible to the associated pathologies, e.g., victim hoaxes for attention, spite, or cash reward.

(5) The terms “sexual harassment” and “sexual assault” are ambiguous and open to manipulation by unscrupulous lawyers. It is not, for example, the case that sexual intercourse comes in precisely two clearly distinguished varieties, consensual and nonconsensual. There is an entire continuum of consent, ranging from forcible kidnapping/rape, to drunk-and-I-don’t-know-what-I-was-thinking, to licensed connubial bliss. (In this context I once asked a respectably married lady friend whether in her days of premarital freedom she had ever taken a man to bed and regretted it afterwards. She: “Afterwards? How about during?”)

(6) I hate to distract the attention of our senior military brains away from their labors on “Strengthening Military-Civilian Community Partnerships to Respond to Sexual Assault” (page 43) toward the distasteful business of fighting wars, but there may be some of that in our future, and it may bear some hard thinking all by itself—if not perhaps 1,803 pages’ worth.

Gohmert: CAIR & ISNA are 'Front Organizations for the Muslim Brotherhood,' 'Want Sharia Law'

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is still reeling from Attorney General Eric Holder’s attempt to cast aspersions on his asparagus, and took to the House Floor today to accuse the Justice Department and intelligence agencies of working with Muslim Brotherhood front groups.

Gohmert, who earlier claimed that Americans may need to use their guns to prevent the establishment of Sharia law, claimed that the Council on American Islamic Relations and the Islamic Society of North America are both “front organizations for the Muslim Brotherhood” and “want Sharia law to be the law of the land, not our Constitution.”

While Gohmert argued that the Fifth Circuit Court “confirmed” CAIR and ISNA’s Muslim Brotherhood allegiance, the court actually removed their designation as unindicted co-conspirators in the Holy Land Foundation trial and cleared them of such a status.

The congressman even alleged the military is ignoring and refusing to “recognize” the problem of green-on-blue attacks in Afghanistan. “We need to address the political correctness that is blinding our agencies and blinding our military of its ability to see who the enemy is because it’s getting people killed,” Gohmert said.

First Lesbian Latina Confirmed as Federal Judge

Judge Nitza Quiñones Alejandro broke an important glass ceiling this week, becoming the first openly lesbian Latina confirmed to a federal judgeship.  The Senate confirmed her by voice vote to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania yesterday. Previously Quiñones served for more than two decades on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.

The Washington Blade notes that Quiñones is only the seventh openly LGBT person in our country’s history to be confirmed as a federal judge.

PFAW has advocated for more diversity in the judiciary, applauding President Obama’s push to bring qualified judges from many backgrounds to the federal bench.  Issuing decisions that affect all communities, the federal bench – and all benches – must reflect the diversity of our nation.

Last year President Obama said he was committed to ensuring that “the judiciary resembles the nation it serves.”  This week’s confirmation is an important step toward that goal.
