Wendy Davis and the People’s Filibuster in Texas

Guest post from Robin Lane, alumni board member of affiliate People For the American Way Foundation’s Young People For program.

Tuesday afternoon in Austin, I arrived at the Capitol and was swallowed in a sea of orange, ready to support Senator Wendy Davis and her filibuster of Senate Bill 5. Sen. Davis began by reading the testimonies of women who would be affected by SB5, limiting abortion rights in Texas, getting so emotional reading one woman’s story that she struggled to continue speaking through her tears. Senators Watson, Van de Putte, and West helped her buy time. We cheered every time we heard someone say, “Parliamentary inquiry, Mr. President.” The filibuster continued late into the evening.

At 11:30, Sen. Watson had the floor. Sen. West requested that the motion to close the previous question be put into writing, “in as large a font as possible.” I couldn’t breathe. And then, Sen. Van de Putte made the comment that erupted the entire Capitol: “At what point must a female senator raise her hand or her voice to be recognized over her male colleagues?”

Sen. Duncan announced over the noise, “We will have to suspend the vote until the gallery is in order.” The clock ran out. At midnight, the auditorium erupted in cheers. But when all of the Senators remained in front of the podium, the cheers faded. Several news outlets reported that SB5 passed. Conflicting outcomes were coming in droves.

A large crowd from the auditorium raced upstairs into the rotunda and the sight took my breath away – every inch was packed with people chanting. At around 2:15 AM, we heard a text message sent from Sen. Davis to an ally in the rotunda: Senate Bill 5 was officially dead. There was a request to sing, “The Eyes of Texas,” and the Capitol sang together. Someone raised a Texas flag on the rotunda floor. People were crying.

I have never been so proud to call myself a Texan.

Although I didn’t grow up in the Lone Star state, my mother did – and so did my grandmother, and my great-grandfather, and my great-great-grandfather. Texas is in my blood. I came to Texas after leaving the University of Pittsburgh, where I had been organizing for reproductive justice since 2007. I came because I saw so clearly how my issue intersected with the struggles of communities of color, low-income communities, immigrant communities, education justice, LGBTQ rights, environmental justice, and food justice – and I saw Texas as ground-zero for many of these battles. We won the battle, for now, on SB5 – but with Section 4 of the Voting Rights struck down, Texas immediately began advancing a discriminatory redistricting plan. A woman in San Antonio is in deportation proceedings after she took her sick child to the hospital. Senators Cornyn and Cruz continue to fight us on truly inclusive immigration reform. And on Wednesday, Gov. Rick Perry called another special session of the Texas legislature, set for July 1, to act on the sweeping anti-choice proposals.  Yes, we won this battle – but the war continues.

Still, the victory at the Capitol this week inspired me to keep up the difficult work of organizing in the state of Texas – from now until the next election, and beyond.

Huelskamp: DOMA Ruling an Attack on Jesus Christ; Justices Couldn't Pass Law School

After calling on Congress to reconsider the Federal Marriage Amendment and warning that marriage equality will hurt children, Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) appeared on The Steve Deace Show yesterday to once again upbraid the Supreme Court for its marriage equality rulings.

Huelskamp accused the justices of trying to “rewrite the Constitution” and of attacking Jesus Christ himself. “The idea that Jesus Christ himself was degrading and demeaning is what they’ve come down to,” he said.

The congressman agreed with Deace’s charge that the left “has every intention of turning government against the church.” He added that progressive are bent on “ramming their views down the throats of Americans.”

Huelskamp also told Deace that the justices who ruled on DOMA and Prop 8 probably couldn’t have passed law school: “Twisted logic, tortured the Constitution, I can’t even stand to read the decisions because I don’t even think they’d pass law school with decisions like that.”

Franklin Graham: Supreme Court 'Rearranging God's Divine Order'

Franklin Graham released a short statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decisions on DOMA and Prop 8, asserting that there is no right for gays and lesbians to marry since no one is “entitled to rearrange God’s divine order for the universe and its inhabitants.”

“Any person or institution that attempts to redefine [marriage] is ultimately challenging Him,” Franklin writes, adding that the court cannot have any impact on “issues involving God’s laws.”

While I sharply disagree with the Supreme Court's decision on these two marriage cases, when it comes to issues involving God's laws, it doesn't ultimately matter what I or anyone else thinks about a court's ruling. It was God who created and defined marriage, and any person or institution that attempts to redefine it is ultimately challenging Him.

We who call ourselves followers of Christ must strive to love others with the same love He has shown us—even when we have fundamentally different beliefs about such matters as the definition of marriage. I believe that all people are entitled to respect and are within the reach of God's love, but I do not believe any of us is entitled to rearrange God's divine order for the universe and its inhabitants—all of which He created and sent His Son to die for.

Staver: DOMA Decision Akin To Rulings In Favor Of Slavery, Internment and Sterilization

Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver is continuing to pummel the Supreme Court for its decision on the Defense of Marriage Act, telling talk show host Steve Malzberg on Wednesday that the ruling will be remembered in the same light as the Court’s notorious decisions expanding slavery and denying citizenship to African Americans; approving of the internment of Japanese Americans; and sanctioning forced sterilization.

“I think that this decision represents a line that the court has crossed into illegitimacy,” Staver argued, claiming that the ruling “falls in the same category” as “dark” and “illegitimate decisions” such as Dred Scott v. Sandford, Korematsu v. United States and Buck v. Bell.

“This decision is by five justices that have cut the tether between themselves and the Constitution, they are in their own fantasy world that there is somehow an equal protection right to same-sex marriage,” Staver said.

Mefferd: Gay Rights Led to America's 'Death Throes' and 'Totalitarian' Laws

On Wednesday, Religious Right broadcaster Janet Mefferd didn’t hold back in expressing her outrage over the Supreme Court’s decision to vacate the appeal of the Prop 8 case over standing, calling the court’s ruling “completely insane.”

“If you think this is just an attack on marriage, it isn’t; it’s an attack on your liberty, an attack on the rule of law and it’s an attack on every person in California who went to the polls and legally voted to change the constitution of the state of California,” Mefferd said, “and the Supreme Court basically spat on them today.” Mefferd had a dim view of California: “Look who you have running your state, all these people have done in the California legislature is it’s gay law here and gay law there and gay role models and ban gay reparative therapy for minors…it’s totalitarian.”

But it’s not just California that’s at risk, she explained, as all of America is now in its “death throes.”

“It’s not about love, it’s not about equality, it’s not about civil rights, it’s about absolutely shaking the fist in the face of a Holy God and thinking that you’re going to get away with it,” Mefferd warned. “You really think the United States is going to get away with this? You think we’re going to be thriving three hundred years from now if we just completely tear apart this civilization? Are you kidding me? We are delusional if we think we can survive as a civilization long term.”

Mefferd added that if Americans keep “degrading everything that is good” then “you’re over, it’s over.”

On her Facebook page, Mefferd pointed to a video of a dog burying a dead puppy and called it a metaphor for America’s imminent demise.

African American Ministers in Action Urges House to Pass Common-Sense Immigration Policy

People For the American Way’s African American Ministers in Action (AAMIA), a nationwide alliance of over 1,200 clergy, applauded the Senate passage of a bipartisan immigration policy yesterday.

Minister Leslie Watson Malachi, director of AAMIA, released the following statement.

“Our country must create real solutions for the millions of men, women and families caught up in an outdated and often unjust immigration system. Today’s bipartisan vote was a critical step in the right direction. This bill isn’t perfect, but it represents important progress towards a working, fair immigration system, and most importantly it creates a clear roadmap towards citizenship for those who are vulnerable.

“The Senate passage of The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013 (S. 744) reflects the hard work and commitment of immigration rights advocates, including many in the faith community. People of faith from across the country, across religious and denominational traditions came together, stood up and fought for the rights of our new American friends, neighbors and families. We know our country is stronger when we respect and embrace the vibrant diversity that makes us who we are.

“Now it is time for the House to act and pass a strong, common sense bill to fix our immigration system. Today’s vote showed that elected officials sent to Washington can work together for the good of our country. For too long, the debate over immigration policy has been dominated by voices of fear and intolerance. We strongly encourage members of both parties to finally listen to the voices of the majority of Americans who recognize the need to create a common-sense, humanitarian, just immigration policy.”

American Decency Association: DOMA Decision Just Like Pearl Harbor

The American Decency Association’s Lisa Van Houten is warning that the Supreme Court’s DOMA decision “will live in infamy” just like Pearl Harbor. Van Houten claims that pastors will “be prosecuted for preaching” against homosexuality and refusing to perform same-sex weddings, people will be “charged with discrimination” if they don’t “embrace homosexuality,” anti-gay groups will lose their non-profit status, and, worst of all, America will face divine punishment.

As we look back on history there are dates which we now see were crossroads, turning points for nations and cultures. July 4, 1776; June 6, 1944. December 7, 1941; January 22, 1973. Battles fought, decisions made – some establishing goodness and justice, others are dates that “will live in infamy.”

I believe today, June 26, 2013, is the latter. A date when the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of same sex marriage, and undermined true marriage – one man and one woman – which was instituted, not by any government, but by God.

The homosexual agenda cannot and will not abide peaceably alongside the true, biblical institutions of marriage and family as ordained by God. As the homosexual agenda is legitimized – even by the United States Supreme Court - marriage, family, and our religious liberty will be undermined.

Consider the following short list of what may be in our future :

1. Hate crime laws will be increasingly instituted and enforced. Will pastors be prosecuted for preaching what God’s Word says regarding homosexuality and refusing to perform same sex “marriage” ceremonies?

2. Homosexuality will be a protected class by the government. Christian school teachers and administrators, pastors, business owners, etc. could be charged with discrimination if they speak out against or refuse to embrace homosexuality.

3. Organizations such as our own American Decency could easily lose their (c)3 tax-exempt, non-profit status as we continue to call homosexuality what it is - SIN.

4. God will not bless a nation that puts a stamp of approval upon that which he calls an abomination. The evidences of God’s displeasure are evident and becoming more so with each passing day.

We are rapidly coming upon a time when a handful of unelected, increasingly politicized appointees are demonstrating that their allegiance to the U.S. Constitution and to natural law is under question.

However, God’s law supercedes [sic] man’s. As Christians, we must defy man’s law if it requires us to break the law of God.

Santorum: 'Death Knell' of Marriage Approaching

Rick Santorum told NewsmaxTV yesterday that the gay rights victories at the Supreme Court are paving the way for the “death knell” of marriage. The former senator and presidential candidate, who on Wednesday claimed that the Supreme Court’s marriage rulings represent the loss of freedom, maintained that the DOMA decision will allow the Supreme Court “to establish some sort of constitutional right or find that marriage is unconstitutional in its current form. That to me will put the death knell in it.”

But Santorum was optimistic that opposition to marriage equality will grow in the future because people will eventually see same-sex marriages’ deleterious “impact on children, on marriage, on families and on civilization.”

Perkins: SCOTUS Gave Gays Benefits Meant for 'Real Spouses'

The Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins has already called the Supreme Court’s ruling striking down the anti-gay Defense of Marriage Act “absurd,” and warned that it presents “a clear and present danger to the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion in our country” and pushes America further down the road to becoming Sodom and Gomorrah.

In a member email today, Perkins elaborates on his outrage, claiming that the Supreme Court’s DOMA decision means “the landscape has been fundamentally altered in a society where the rule of law is slowly unraveling.” In guaranteeing that legally married same-sex couples are treated as married by the federal government, Perkins writes, the Supreme Court requires the government to provide benefits to married gay couples that “until yesterday, were reserved for real spouses.”

And, of course, Perkins added that we are on our way to legalized polygamy, which he claims is a part of the liberal “agenda.”

That said, the landscape has been fundamentally altered in a society where the rule of law is slowly unraveling. Twelve states can now force taxpayers to supply more than 1,100 benefits which, until yesterday, were reserved for real spouses. And both the court and rogue leaders like Jerry Brown have, in the words of Justice Antonin Scalia, "declared open season on any law that... can be characterized as mean-spirited." In a nation where our own President feels no obligation to defend the law, it's no wonder the Human Rights Campaign thinks it can impose same-sex "marriage" on every state in five years.

When the Left fell short of their goals yesterday, it gave our movement the most valuable commodity of all: time to persuade the country of the consequences. But it also meant that the waves of attack will keep coming -- stronger and more vicious than ever before. Emboldened by Justice Anthony Kennedy's sharp rebuke of our side, liberals aren't even bothering to hide the rest of their agenda. Polygamists popped the corked on a little champagne of their own after Wednesday's rulings, as they wait their turn for nationwide acceptance.

Bauer: Gay Rights Will Lead To 'The Criminalization of Christianity'

After warning that gay rights opponents will be put in jail any day now, last night Gary Bauer told members of his Campaign for Working Families PAC that as a result of the Supreme Court’s marriage rulings “we are headed toward the criminalization of Christianity.”

Bauer suggests “the militant homosexual movement” will have Child Protective Services remove children from homes where the parents teach kids “that God intended them to marry someone of the opposite sex.”

Based on the messages I have received, many of you (and especially our friends in California) seem tempted to give up. Some are asking, "Why should we bother anymore?"

This may be shocking to you, but if we throw up our arms in frustration and surrender the political arena to the left, it will get a whole lot worse. We are headed toward the criminalization of Christianity. Let me explain.

If a family were teaching its children that the KKK is the correct model for society, people would rightly be outraged. If Child Protective Services found out, that family would face the possibility of having its kids taken away for psychological child abuse.

When it comes to same-sex marriage, the militant homosexual movement and its left-wing media allies have, unbelievably, taken the normal view of marriage and equated it with the kind of raw bigotry I just described.

If we stop fighting, in short order you will not be able to teach your children that God intended them to marry someone of the opposite sex.

You may say, "Gary, that will never happen!" That's exactly what folks said about men "marrying" other men just 20 years ago.

As I wrote yesterday, this is about more than just marriage rights. It is not hyperbole to say that religious liberty is at stake. (Pastors, please pay attention!)

It used to be said that homosexuals were coming out of the closet and they wanted to force Christianity in the closet. It's worse than that. If you think I am exaggerating, consider Justice Antonin Scalia's dissent in yesterday's ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act.

In his majority striking down Section 3 of DOMA, Justice Kennedy accuses supporters of normal marriage of harboring an "animus" or hatred of homosexuals. Scalia's dissent suggests that the majority's arrogance betrays its own "animus," one the left is about to unleash on men and women of faith.

PFAW: Will House Republicans Stand With a Far-Right Fringe or Bipartisan Majorities on Immigration?

WASHINGTON – This afternoon a bill to move towards a common-sense immigration policy passed the U.S. Senate with strong bipartisan support.  People For the American Way president Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“In the House, the GOP leadership now faces a choice: enact reasonable and sorely needed immigration policy, or give in to their most extreme fringe and ignore the country’s wellbeing.  While far-right Republican office holders are crowing that the bill will ‘destroy our country,’ the majority of self-identified Republicans – and the majority of the country – supports common-sense reforms.

“GOP leaders claim that they are ready to put aside hateful anti-immigrant rhetoric and start creating real solutions for all Americans. All eyes are now on the House GOP.  Will they stand with the far-right fringe of their party or stand with bipartisan majorities calling for change?”

  • The Senate votes 68-32 to approve immigration reform legislation.
  • William Owens of the Coalition of African-American Pastors claims gay marriage leads to the end of society.
  • Kristan Hawkins blames gay marriage on legal abortion.
  • Tea Party leader Karen Kenney says the Supreme Court’s ruling on Prop 8 is a “new kind of tyranny.”
  • Michael Brown criticizes transgender youth: “What if the child was sure he or she was an alien? Or an animal? Or a black child in a white body?”
  • The New Jersey state Senate followed the Assembly in passing a bill limiting sexual orientation conversion therapy, a bill ex-gay activist Greg Quinlan argues “rapes faith” and bolsters “an anti-Christian movement to destroy the United States Constitution.”

Jennifer Roback Morse: Hollywood to Blame for Gay Marriage Decisions

Jennifer Roback Morse of the National Organization for Marriage knows who to blame for yesterday’s marriage equality victories in the Supreme Court: Hollywood. Roback Morse, the campaign spokesperson for Proposition 8 in California, discussed the marriage equality decisions on today’s Sandy Rios in the Morning. She blamed Hollywood for the Supreme Court’s decisions on Prop 8 and DOMA, saying that Hollywood is “dominated by all aspects of the sexual revolution.”

Morse also blamed television for American’s “distorted view” of how many gay people there are in the country. “They’re only about 2% of the population,” she claimed. “But if you watch TV all day, you’ll think it’s 30 or 40% of the population’s gay.”

Morse urged anti-gay activists “to go down fighting” and suggested that the freedom of speech is at stake: “You need to speak out while you still can because these guys are closing in on us in all kinds of dimensions.” According to Morse, gay rights advocates believe “the sexual revolution is the highest objective and will bend the rule of law and bend the Constitution” in order to realize their goals.

Nugent: 'Gangster' and 'Diehard Communist' Obama, 'Murderer' Clinton Ruining America

NRA board member Ted Nugent appeared on Sons of Liberty Radio yesterday to talk about how his organization is “the pinnacle of self-evident truth” as found in the Constitution, unlike President Obama whom he called a “Chicago gangster” and a “diehard Communist.” Nugent also said that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is a “murderer” who “intentionally kept security away from American citizens so they can get blown to smithereens,” called Vice President Biden “an absolute buffoon,” and accused Attorney General Holder of “gunrunning.”

But the interview ended abruptly when Nugent complained about audio feedback: “Boy, that’s getting to be a pain in the ass, what kind of radio station is this?”

I understand logic, I understand common sense, the commonality and sensibility of it all, and here in 2013 the NRA was the ultimate celebration, the pinnacle of self-evident truth, ‘we the people’ adherence who understand that ‘we the people’ are the bosses of our elected officials. It’s gone tipsy turvy where we have a Chicago gangster, ACORN community organizer, scam artist and diehard Communist as the President of the United States, a gunrunning Attorney General, an absolute buffoon for a Vice President and a murderer as the Secretary of State who intentionally kept security away from American citizens so they can get blown to smithereens.

After Heroic All-Day Filibuster Foils Anti-Choice Bill, TX Gov. Rick Perry Calls ANOTHER Special Session to Continue Attack on Women

It’s been a chaotic week for the Texas legislature, but the drama isn’t over. Following state Senator Wendy Davis’ epic filibuster of a bill that would limit Texas women’s access to abortion, Governor Rick Perry has called yet another special session to push the legislation through.

The bill would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy – with no exceptions – and would place burdensome requirements on abortion providers, effectively shutting down all but five clinics in the state.

Sen. Davis filibustered the legislation for more than twelve hours and, with the aid of hundreds of protesters, effectively blocked Senate Bill 5 from passing the Senate and reaching the governor’s desk before midnight. Davis was championed around the country as a political celebrity standing, quite literally, for women’s rights. People For the American Way recognized Davis’ efforts, encouraging members to sign a note of appreciation and support.

However, her victory may be short lived.

Perry called the first special session to give the legislature more time to consider anti-choice legislation that failed to advance during the regular legislative period. A special session follows different rules than the normal session, as the governor has sole discretion over what the legislature can work on. Perry said that the legislature also failed to pass bills on infrastructure funding and mandatory life sentences for 17 year-olds committing capital felonies, providing convenient additional justifications for the necessity of a second session. Perry said,

"Texans value life and want to protect women and the unborn. Texans want a transportation system that keeps them moving. Texans want a court system that is fair and just. We will not allow the breakdown of decorum and decency to prevent us from doing what the people of this state hired us to do."

Davis refused to let Perry’s affront go unanswered, firing back that it was Perry and Lt. Gov. Dewhurst who had “led the charge” in the breakdown of decorum and “made a mockery of all of the rules we run by in this state.”

As the New York Times reported yesterday, it is unlikely that the Democrats will manage to block the bill for another 30-day session. It will probably pass. But as the governor can call as many special sessions as he likes, even a successful second filibuster may not be enough to stop the Republicans’ anti-choice agenda.

The second session begins July 1st. The war on women rages on.

LaBarbera Reacts to DOMA Ruling: 'Craven' Kennedy 'Sold out Almighty God for a Place in the Gay Hall of Fame'

Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth about Homosexuality apparently had to spend quite some time stewing over the Supreme Court’s decision striking down the key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act, finally coming out today with a press release slamming the decision. The high court’s decision, LaBarbera writes, “continues America’s godless trajectory toward sexual and gender chaos” and helps to make us “a Profane Nation at war with our own heritage.”

He saves his special vitriol for Justice Anthony Kennedy, author of the DOMA opinion, whom he predicts “will go down in history as one more craven elitist who sold out Almighty God for a place in the Gay Hall of Fame.”

Yesterday’s decisions by the U.S. Supreme Court striking down Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and effectively invalidating Californians’ vote to preserve marriage as between a man and a woman — continues America’s godless trajectory toward sexual and gender chaos.  We have become a Profane Nation at war with our own heritage and the Judeo-Christian moral values that helped make us great.

Healthy societies discriminate against sexually immoral behavior: homosexuality, sex outside marriage, pornography, incest, etc. This benefits children and adults by using the law to reinforce stable moral boundaries and steer citizens away from destructive (sinful) behaviors. So it was stunning to read the majority decision by Justice Anthony Kennedy – a Reagan appointee – overturning DOMA’s pro-natural-marriage provision in the name of the children.

Kennedy surely has earned his future laudatory obit in the New York Times for capitulating to “gay” activist ideology — but among clear-thinking Americans who still know right from wrong he will go down in history as one more craven elitist who sold out Almighty God for a place in the Gay Hall of Fame.

The Kennedy majority’s legal insanity is what emerges from an Isaiah 5:20 culture (evil is good and good evil) that puts deviant sexual identities on a pedestal, to be celebrated as protected “civil rights.” The LGBT Pandora’s Box has been flung open, and there will be much more folly and destruction to follow — including the public policy madness of establishing “gender identity” (read: extreme gender confusion) as a parallel “civil right.”

At least the Supreme Court did not create a national “right” to homosexual “marriage.” But we must be vigilant, as future LGBT litigation, coupled with the appalling self-righteousness of Kennedy’s liberal court majority, will combine to make this the next goal of the judicial supremacists.

LaBarbera also discussed the DOMA decision on VCY America’s Crosstalk yesterday. He attacked President Obama’s statement praising the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it an example of “radical egalitarianism,” and warned that marriage equality will now be “foisted” upon children which is “not good for their hearts and souls.”

The other thing that strikes me, Jim, is the radical egalitarianism of that statement. You know, this idea of homosexual love, homosexual unions are equal to marital unions, it’s not all equal. A marriage between a man and a woman produces children, it’s the very foundation of human civilization. And the idea that two men or two women is somehow ‘equal’ to that is a liberal falsehood. And I’m worried that it’s going to be foisted by necessity now upon children, especially in the states that have so-called homosexual marriage, they will be taught that same-sex so-called marriage is equal to the real thing, and that’s not good for their hearts and souls.

Bradlee Dean: DOMA Ruling Will Bring 'Destruction to America' and Also Please Help My Maddow Lawsuit

Bradlee Dean not only lost his $50 million lawsuit against Rachel Maddow but is also refusing to obey a court order to pay her legal fees. Now he is using the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act to plea with readers to “help his lawsuit” by donating to him. In doing so, he promises, readers will “stand for America and get [a] free gift.”

“Think Overturning Doma is bad? You should see what MSNBC and Rachel Maddow did to Bradlee Dean,” he writes.

Just to scare readers a bit more, he claims that the court’s “decision will bring about another bout of devastation and destruction to America – especially the young generation,” who according to Dean are being “raped of their innocence as they undergo sexual indoctrination” under Obama’s “sexualized curriculum.”

Just like Roe v. Wade, this immoral, unconstitutional, and unlawful decision was against the will of the people. If the Supreme Court is left unchecked, this decision will bring about another bout of devastation and destruction to America – especially the young generation.

As mentioned earlier, Obama already spent $350 million on a sexualized curriculum, called the Personal Responsibility Education Program. The minds of America’s children will be raped of their innocence as they undergo sexual indoctrination.

America, simply put, this is criminal. Government, including the Supreme Court, does not have executive, legislative, or judicial powers to break the laws of our Constitutional Republic. Today’s ruling is pretended legislation.

“All laws which are repugnant to the Constitution, are null and void.” – Chief Justice Marshall

Think Overturning Doma is bad? You should see what MSNBC and Rachel Maddow did to Bradlee Dean. Help his lawsuit against them. Stand for America and GET YOUR FREE GIFT.

Ted Baehr: Gay Marriage Supporters Creating Tyranny and 'Are Subject to Indictment, Trial and Just Punishment'

Adding to the list of off-the-wall reactions to the Supreme Court’s decisions on two same-sex marriage cases, Religious Right activist Ted Baehr of Movieguide released a statement demanding that all officials who back marriage equality be “subject to indictment, trial and just punishment.”

He claimed that same-sex marriage is part of a Marxist plan to “abolish marriage and the family” and may one day allow dictators like Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin to rise to power in America.

“The Supreme Court’s decision today is absolutely criminal,” according to Baehr, arguing that neither the government nor voters “have the right to legalize same-sex marriage,” as it violates “God’s law” and the First Amendment’s protection of “the freedom to worship.”

“Neither the court, the state, the president, the Congress, nor even the voters have the right to legalize same-sex marriage,” Baehr says. “It violates the First Amendment of the United States Constitution, which states that Congress can’t deny anyone the freedom to worship.

Baehr notes that the idea to abolish marriage and the family comes from The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Frederich Engels, which produced such mass-murdering tyrants as Lenin, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Castro.

Thus, the Declaration of Independence made it clear that King George III acted illegally when he oppressed the American colonies, because he was under the law of God. Countries that allowed men to rule above the law have produced tyrants, such as Stalin, Hitler and Mao Tse Tung. Current examples include Mugabwe, Castro and the military junta in Burma, among many others. Baehr condemns the idea spread by “misguided, mendacious” proponents of same-sex marriage that the traditional definition of marriage and family in the Bible is outdated or oppressive.

“A bad heterosexual marriage or a bad family doesn’t give us the right to abolish marriage and family or to change their definitions,” Baehr says.

“The Supreme Court’s decision today is absolutely criminal,” he explains. “Our local, state and federal governments, along with the courts, have created most of the alleged problems we see in many marriages and families today because they have accepted a radical Marxist, communist definition of taxation, culture, and government.

“We need to stand for God’s law in the face of the power-grab by those in civil authority who know no restraints.

“The increasingly socialized federal government does not have the right nor the authority to violate God’s law; they have also violated their own Constitution and the will of the governed. When they do that, they are just like King George. They have abdicated their moral and legal authority and are subject to indictment, trial and just punishment.

Wiles: Americans 'Will Float on Rafts to Cuba to Get Away from El Presidente Obama's Communist Revolution'

Yesterday, TruNews host Rick Wiles warned that immigration reform proposals and the Supreme Court’s decisions on same-sex marriage are both efforts to attack freedom and destroy the Constitution.

“Life in America changed today to life in Mystery Babylon,” Wiles lamented, arguing that the DOMA ruling is part of a larger “war on the laws of God and the Christian heritage of the United States of America” that is leading America into a “moral sinkhole.”

He claimed that District Court Judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling that Prop. 8 is unconstitutional is a “sign of just how far insanity has gripped the judiciary,” wondering: “how long until the Supreme Court rules that the US Constitution itself is unconstitutional?”

Wiles speculated that “Chairman Obama” will soon force churches to conduct same-sex marriages as part of his “cultural revolution.”

But Wiles was even more upset about the GOP’s “border surge” amendment to the Senate immigration bill, arguing that it will be used to “lock down the country” and “keep Americans in” as more people seek “to flee the growing tyranny in the USA.” He warned Americans “will not be allowed to leave, and we’ll have to float on rafts to Cuba to get away from El Presidente Obama’s Communist revolution.”

Why do I have this gnawing feeling in my gut that the real reason to militarize the border is not to keep the Mexicans out but to keep the Americans in? It is looking increasingly obvious that the national security apparatus is systematically locking down the country. At some point Americans desiring to flee the growing tyranny in the USA will not be allowed to leave, and we’ll have to float on rafts to Cuba to get away from El Presidente Obama’s Communist revolution.
