PFAW: Romney Should Rebuke NRA Board Member Ted Nugent for Extreme and Violent Rhetoric

People For the American Way today urged presidential candidate Mitt Romney to rebuke longtime NRA board member Ted Nugent for remarks he made at the NRA annual convention on Saturday. Nugent, who endorsed Romney in early March, called on NRA members to vote for Romney and denounced the “vile, evil, America-hating” Obama administration. He finished his remarks with a call to cut off the heads of Democrats this fall: “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.”

Nugent’s comments, which were first reported by People For the American Way’s Right Wing Watch, came one day after Romney himself addressed the convention. Nugent’s endorsement was touted by Tagg Romney in early March.

“We don’t expect moderation from Ted Nugent,” said Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way. “But we do expect a major presidential candidate like Mitt Romney to rebuke a prominent supporter for spewing hate-filled and violent rhetoric against the President of the United States.”

“This is far from the first time that Nugent has advocated violence against his political adversaries. Mitt Romney should clearly and loudly reject Nugent’s endorsement and rebuke his inflammatory comments.”

List of Companies Dropping ALEC hits 10

In the week since the call went out for the corporations on ALEC’s Private Enterprise Board to disassociate from the organization, a whopping TEN companies have publicly announced that they will no longer bankroll the American Legislative Exchange Council’s extreme agenda.

These entities have bid ALEC adieu, and more are sure to follow:

  • Coca-Cola
  • PepsiCo
  • Kraft
  • Intuit
  • Wendy’s
  • Mars, Inc.
  • Arizona Public Service
  • Reed Elsevier
  • American Traffic Solutions
  • McDonald’s

PFAW and other advocacy organizations have launched a petition calling for the remaining companies to leave ALEC, putting increasing pressure on companies like State Farm and Johnson & Johnson to stop funding the organization responsible for so many attacks against workers, public education, the right to vote and so many other fundamental issues.

However, the member-corporations are only one part of the ALEC equation. Slowly but surely, ALEC-member state legislators are beginning to understand that ALEC’s toxic policies are not in the best interests of their constituents, and are backing out of the organization as well:

Missouri State Rep. Mike Colona:

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is not the innocuous, bipartisan organization it purports to be. Their agenda is radical and wrong for Missouri. I was a member and saw firsthand the sort of extreme legislation they push on state legislators around the country. I disagree with ALEC's extremist agenda and encourage my colleagues in the Missouri General Assembly to end their affiliations with the group. If ALEC is too extreme for Coke, Pepsi, McDonald's, Kraft, Wendy's, Intuit and the Gates Foundation, it's too extreme for me and the people of Missouri.

Texas State Rep Alma Allen:

As a legislator, I value the input that non-partisan organizations contribute to various issues. However, I do not believe that the American Legislative Exchange Council is a non-partisan organization. Due to the legislation that ALEC has been involved in forming and promoting, I will not be renewing my membership. I value and listen to all opinions, but ALEC's agenda has become harmful to my constituents, and the people of the State of Texas.

There’s much more work to be done, but the ALEC house of cards is beginning to crumble.

Truth in Action Ministries Blames Homosexuality on Lack of 'Biblical Fatherhood'

Truth in Action Ministries last week aired a radio broadcast marking the anniversary of the Titanic’s sinking with a warning that feminism and evolution are corrupting the culture by creating a society where “women are treated like chattel and men no longer take on their masculine role as defenders,” along with a film likening the iceberg that sank the Titanic to the supposed threat the “radical homosexual agenda” poses to America.

Today on Truth that Transforms, the group tied the two subjects together by linking the “disintegration of maleness” to the rise of the “homosexual agenda.” While speaking with Del Tackett, a former Focus on the Family vice president and current host of Truth in Action’s show Cross Examine, host Carmen Pate asked Tackett how the diminishment of men in society “ties into with what we see with the homosexual agenda.” Tackett, like others in the Religious Right, said that homosexuality is the result of a shortage of fathers who follow the “biblical mode” of fatherhood, arguing that fathers who act like either an “abusive tyrant” or just spend time “drinking beer” and “just flipping through the channels” have a higher likelihood of ending up with gay sons, while fathers with “the biblical understanding of headship and leadership” will not:

Pate: Tell us your perspective on how this really ties into with what we see with the homosexual agenda, their movement, the sad belief that they have that they were born with this propensity to engage in sexual sin?

Tackett: A lot of the studies have shown that homosexual activities and tendencies and desires and so forth often come from a deep pathology within the home and oftentimes that is traced to a lack of a proper role model. That lack of a proper role model can be on both extremes, it can be on one end the tyrant, which is not the biblical mode, not the biblical understanding of headship and leadership, it’s an abusive tyrant mode, or, which is more prevalent, on the other end, is this abdication, it’s the absence, it’s the guy who is just drinking beer on the couch, just flipping through the channels, and he has no leadership role at all. So a young boy deeply desires that kind of male relationship and when it happens at a very sensitive time at a young man’s life and he experiences a sexual encounter, and the whole sexual aspect of human nature is so deep and complex, but people can map in that wrong way.

Pat Robertson and Michele Bachmann warn about Media Whitewash on Terrorism

Erick Stackelbeck, the sports reported turned terrorism analyst for the Christian Broadcasting Netowrk, hosted a segment on the 700 Club today looking into how “political correctness takes over in mainstream reporting on Islamic terrorism.” Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-MN) told Stackelbeck that “our media is refusing to tell the story” about Islamic extremists because the media “come from a decidedly leftist worldview and a secular—almost an anti-secular in a way—because they’ve embraced such a radical worldview and they impose that filter through every subject they touch.”

Following the segment, 700 Club host Pat Robertson, who routinely compares his anti-Muslim politics to the fight against the Nazis, echoed Bachmann's view, saying that today the media is afraid to call out Muslim extremists, unlike in the past when the media was eager to ridicule Nazis and Communists and even “these fierce evil Japs.”

Watch an excerpt of Bachmann’s appearance on the 700 Club and Robertson’s commentary here:

Bachmann: The world is being turned upside down because of radical Islam and our media is refusing to tell the story…. They come from a decidedly leftist worldview and a secular—almost an anti-secular in a way—because they’ve embraced such a radical worldview and they impose that filter through every subject they touch.”

Robertson: In World War II we didn’t have any trouble identifying the Nazis, no problem at all, Adolf Hitler was a bad man, the Nazis were bad people, same thing later on with the Communists, of course there was a third column here that was trying to make Joe Stalin look like a folk hero. Certainly in World War II look what we did with Hirohito and the Japanese and the cartoons that came out and the ridicule that we had, these fierce evil Japs, well so you say, ‘that was a little bit over the top,’ well not really if they’re trying to kill you. The same thing is true with these others; they want to destroy Western civilization. They want to bring us back to the Arabia of the 7th and 8th centuries, that’s what you find in the Qur’an.

Concerned Women for America Celebrates Anti-Discrimination Ordinance's Defeat with Warnings of Gays Recruiting Children

Following the defeat of an ordinance in Anchorage, Alaska, which would have prohibited discrimination based on people’s sexual orientation or gender identity, the anti-gay group Concerned Women for America rejoiced at the proposition’s defeat with warnings that such anti-discrimination ordinances open the door for the legalization of pedophilia and education classes to turn children gay:

Alaska is one of a dozen states that have not caved to the pressure of pro-homosexuality activist groups, liberal politicians, and the "mainstream" media to equate sexual behavior with race, granting it special protection under the law.

These so-called protections do nothing more than promote the acceptance of homosexuality and other sexually deviant behaviors. There is no evidence that homosexuals are disproportionately discriminated against in Alaska because it does not have this law.

But if homosexual groups continue to gain ground in equating homosexual behavior with race, they will have gone a long way toward making the courts impose homosexual "marriage" on every state.

Another danger is what happens in schools as the result of this type of legislation. Homosexual groups quickly move in to "educate" children on the LGBT struggles and "tolerance." This allows them to promote homosexual behavior not only as acceptable, but as good and desirable. We have seen how they have asked children, "How do you know you are not homosexual if you have not tried it?"

These troubles will beget more troubles. Currently there are cases making the arguments that polygamists are being discriminated against in the same way as LGBT groups. What about pedophiles, who now go by their version of GLBT: MAP, or Minor Attracted Persons? Are they being discriminated against?

When you protect "sexual orientation," that term can be defined in any number of ways at different points in time. Sure, they usually limit it today to heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual, but the APA once identified about 22 different types of sexual preferences. The reason homosexual activists just stick with those three today is because that is all they believe society will approve. If you notice, they sometimes limit the reach of "trangenders rights" in many ways. But they will continue the fight for "sexual liberation" when we are "ready."

Think about it, they are gaining much momentum in re-defining the word "marriage." Nobody would have thought of that a few years back. Do you think it would be that difficult to redefine "sexual orientation?"

PFAW Report: The Right's War on Women

Swept into power by Tea Party victories in 2010, Republicans in state legislatures and the U.S. Congress are waging an unprecedented assault on women’s rights. A new report from People For the American Way details the recent developments in the Right’s War on Women and outlines ways that progressives can fight back against it.

The full report, How the War on Women Became Mainstream: Turning Back the Clock in Tea Party America, is available here.

“While voters are concerned with moving our economy forward, right-wing politicians have been focusing on setting women back,” said Michael Keegan, president of People For the American Way. “Tea Party politicians in Washington and the states have in just two years launched an unprecedented assault on women’s rights and women’s freedoms. From attacking birth control to blocking the Violence Against Women Act to insulting single mothers to legislating away the right to choose, the GOP is systematically rolling back years of advancement for women. These dangerous policies, if not countered with strong progressive voices, threaten to turn back the clock on women throughout the country.”

The report details right-wing attacks on women at the federal level and in the states, and the inflammatory rhetoric that has become common in the War on Women, including:

  • “Can someone please explain to me how and why a woman’s ‘right’ to be promiscuous is my financial responsibility?” – Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber
  • Birth control is “unrelated to the basic needs of health care.” – Rep. Jeff Fortenberry
  • “You could argue that money is more important for men.” – State Rep. Glenn Grothman
  • The contraception coverage mandate is “an assault on religion unlike anything we have seen” – Presidential candidate Mitt Romney
  • “The real scandal here is that this woman could, without any trace of shame, without any trace of embarrassment, give open testimony before the entire United States of America about how much promiscuous sex she and her classmates are having.” – The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer
  • “Obama cited Fluke’s ‘bravery’ when he spoke about her. But a more apt word is ‘shamelessness.” – Religious Right activist Gary Bauer

Ted Nugent Stumps for Mitt Romney at NRA Convention: “Chop their heads off in November” (VIDEO)

Washed up rocker and reality TV star Ted Nugent appeared at the NRA’s national convention in St. Louis. Nugent, a longtime NRA board member and regular presence at conventions, rallied the NRA faithful on Saturday to vote for Mitt Romney: “Your goal should be to get a couple thousand, per person who’s here, to vote for Mitt Romney in November.”

Nugent called President Obama a criminal and denounced his “vile, evil America-hating administration” which is “wiping its ass with the Constitution.” Taking it a step further, he said that “If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.” “If you can’t galvanize and promote and recruit people to vote for Mitt Romney, we’re done,” he continued.

Supreme Court justices also came under assault by Nugent, who claims that the court’s more liberal members have signed a declaration against Americans’ right to self-defense:
“We’ve got four Supreme Court justices who don’t believe in the Constitution. Does everyone here know that four of the Supreme Court justices not only determined you don’t have the right to keep and bear arms, four Supreme Court justices signed their name to a declaration that Americans have no fundamental right to self-defense.”
Nugent concluded with a call to cut off the heads of Democrats in November: “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Any questions?”

With surrogates like Nugent, Romney should have no trouble alienating moderates.

UPDATE: Early last month, Tagg Romney touted Nugent's endorsement of his father:

North Carolina Amendment One Activist Warns Gays live in the 'Playground of Satan'

As North Carolina voters go to the polls on May 8th to decide the fate of Amendment One, which would enshrine a ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions in the constitution, radio host Steve Noble has been working with the leaders of the Amendment One campaign Tami Fitzgerald and Patrick Wooden. Following in the footsteps of Wooden, Noble appeared on Americans for Truth about Homosexuality Radio Hour with Peter LaBarbera, where LaBarbera likened gays and lesbians to murderers and drug addicts and Noble said the gay community is trying “to attack the entire world” and “the word of God”

LaBarbera: This idea that’s coming out of the emergent church or the liberal evangelicals in which we don’t want to talk about ex-gays and people who’ve left the lifestyle, you know nobody has a problem that Jesus cold change murderers, drug addicts, and yet somehow homosexuals, people practicing homosexuality, that is held up as something ‘oh no that’s verboten, can’t talk about that.’

Noble: The homosexual lifestyle is not an orientation it’s just a temptation, we all face that, but they’re the ones, that’s the only group of sinners that’s chosen to try to attack the entire world, let alone the word of God, to say ‘no, no, we’re going to keep fighting until you all agree with us that this thing that we know as a sin, isn’t.’

LaBarbera: Right, there are other sins but we don’t see adultery pride parades every June.

As Jeremy Hooper noted, Noble’s comments continued to devolve, and he even alleged that gays and lesbians are living in “the playground of Satan”:

LaBarbera: You’re talking about the spiritual significance of attaching that name—marriage—to the sin of homosexuality.

Noble: Right, when you refuse to repent the only option you have left is to redefine. You say, ‘I’m just going to take this sin right out of the Bible by redefining it and I’m going to get rid of it.’ That’s why when you do that and this is the really sad spiritual underbelly of the whole thing for me as I look at this situation, I’m looking at people, men and women, caught up in their sin, enslaved by their sin, it’s the playground of Satan and the evil forces against God’s way, and they are so broken and so angry at the world telling them and pointing out to them ‘there’s something wrong with you, your lifestyle is messed up, it’s deviant,’ all the things that get said, these are broken people who desperately want to feel whole but they are not willing to repent.

Richard Land faces Firestorm over Trayvon Martin comments, Caught Plagiarizing

Richard Land, the head of the Southern Baptist Convention’s political arm, earlier this month claimed that President Obama “poured gasoline on the racialist fires” by commenting on the Trayvon Martin shooting as part of an attempt by the media and black leaders “to gin up the black vote for an African-American president.” Now it appears that Land was plagiarizing his tirade from a Washington Times column by far-right writer Jeffrey Kuhner, the Baptist Center for Ethics reports:

Aaron Weaver, a doctoral student at Baylor University, posted a partial transcript of Land's March 31 radio show in which Land quoted liberally from a March 29 Washington Times column written by Jeffrey Kuhner without attributing the quotes to him.

Land used Kuhner's material about Trayvon Martin, the media and racism on his radio show – Richard Land Live! – often quoting entire paragraphs without attribution.

Weaver discovered that in Land's approximately 700-word segment on Trayvon Martin, nearly 400 of the words came verbatim from the Kuhner article. Land did not credit Kuhner or even mention his name or the name of the newspaper.

On the radio show's website, Land linked to a "show notes" page that includes a link to Kuhner's column.

At no point in the segment or the radio show was an explanation offered as to the relationship between Kuhner's column and Land's segment.

"Perhaps this will provide an opportunity for Southern Baptists to reflect on why their chief ethics spokesman day-in and day-out sounds much more like a GOP strategist than an actual Christian ethicist," Weaver said.

Besides the plagiarism claims, Black leaders in the SBC, which has a long history of anti-black racism, including the convention’s incoming president and the fervently anti-gay pastor Dwight McKissic have been angered by Land’s remarks:

The comments come as the Southern Baptist Convention is trying hard to diversify its membership and distance itself from a past that includes support of slavery and segregation.

Last year, the denomination for the first time elected a black pastor to its No. 2 position of first vice president, and the Rev. Fred Luter is expected to become the first black president of the Southern Baptist Convention at this year's annual meeting in June.

When asked about the concern that Land's comments hurt the effort to attract non-white members, Luter said, "It doesn't help. That's for sure."

While SBC presidents are elected for one-year terms, as the head of the SBC's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for 23 years, the outspoken Land is arguably the most powerful person in the denomination and certainly its most visible spokesman.

"I think his (Land's) statements will reverse any gains from the rightful election of Fred Luter," said the Rev. Dwight McKissic, a black pastor at the SBC-affiliated Cornerstone Baptist Church is Arlington, Texas.

McKissic said he plans to submit a resolution at the SBC's annual meeting asking the convention to repudiate Land's remarks.

"If they don't, we're back to where we were 50 years ago," he said.

Land, for his part, is twisting the words of his detractors and claims that he is being unfairly reprimanded for “criticizing this rush to judgment,” and Saturday on his radio show claimed that he is being “mugged” by the press.

Liberty Counsel Revives Campaign against the Day of Silence

Liberty Counsel is once again attacking the anti-bullying Day of Silence, and in fact released nearly the exact same statement last year criticizing the “radical sexualized agenda subsidized with tax dollars” and “the intolerance promoted by the Day of Silence.”

On Friday, April 20, the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN) will encourage students to remain silent for an entire school day in solidarity with the radical lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) agenda.

While “peaceful” in name, schools face harsh pressure from the radical LGBT movement to support and promote the Day of Silence. Despite the huge push on schools and teachers from GLSEN to advance the LGBT agenda through this event, no one can be legally forced to participate or condone the Day of Silence.

Last year, some parents chose to withdraw their children from school on that day. Parents are encouraged to call the schools and tell them the reason their children will not be attending. School administrators usually listen, because the school loses money for each absence.

School teachers should be aware that students do not have the right to remain silent when they are called upon by teachers. Conduct on the part of a student that causes a substantial disruption or material interference with school activities is not protected under the First Amendment. Students cannot learn if they refuse to participate in class, and they harm other students’ experience by not contributing to a dialogue of learning.

School administrators do not have to promote the Day of Silence. In those states that require abstinence instruction, schools do not have to recognize clubs that promote sexual activities.

Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, said, “The Day of Silence is not about tolerance or bullying. It is about pushing a sexual agenda. Students and staff who disagree with a radical sexualized agenda are demonized and made to feel like outsiders. Children should be afforded a rigorous education opportunity and not be forced to accept a radical sexualized agenda subsidized with tax dollars. Parents and lawmakers should take the time to learn about the extreme views of GLSEN and the intolerance promoted by the Day of Silence.”

Compare their statement released today to what the group posted last year:

Parents and students will protest the so-called “Day of Silence” agenda tomorrow. Last year, some parents chose to withdraw their children from any school that promotes the Day of Silence. The Day of Silence is a project of the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which promotes a radical sexualized agenda, including the promotion of books that encourage sex between adults and minors.

Parents are encouraged to call the schools their children attend and tell them the reason their children will not be attending. School administrators usually listen, because the school loses money for each absence.

The Day of Silence has been turned into a homosexual and transsexual promotion agenda. Neither students nor public school teachers or staff should be forced to promote homosexual behavior.

Wisconsin Recall Round-Up

Greetings from on-the-ground as we count down to the recall elections in Wisconsin!

PFAW prepared to re-launch our ground efforts here this week, with PFAW’s Randy Borntrager and Sergio Lopez stopping in to help Scott Foval, who is starting as the new PFAW Wisconsin Coordinator. They visited the state’s Government Accountability Board on Tuesday, the deadline for the filing of recall candidate signature petitions: photos are posted on PFAW Wisconsin's newly-updated

Facebook page

.

There are now four Democratic candidates vying to challenge Scott Walker for Governor, and the Republicans have a surprise challenger who has filed to run against him as well. Wisconsin Republicans are running "fake Democrats" against the six Democratic incumbents who are also up for recall, which We Are Wisconsin says may constitute election fraud.

Meanwhile, right-wing darling Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch decided to go ahead and speak before the CPAC Chicago event, even though she might be recalled 3 days before she is scheduled to appear.

News broke this morning in Roll Call that U.S. Senator Ron Johnson is just about to purge his DC legislative staff, possibly half his office, in order to move to a messaging strategy instead of writing good legislation for Wisconsinites. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has tapped Johnson to become the messaging liaison between the Senate Republican Caucus and apparent GOP Presidential nominee Willard Mitt Romney.

BREAKING: Today Wisconsin Democrats have revealed evidence of what they say is proof that WI Gov. Scott Walker held sole hiring and promotion responsibility for the accused felons on his staff in the John Doe investigation.

Looking ahead to next week, WeAreWisconsin.org is sponsoring Equal Pay Day events on Tuesday, April 17th, encouraging supporters to tell Terry Moulton and Jeff Fitzgerald to stop The GOP's War On Working Women now!

Check out PFAW Wisconsin's updated Facebook pag at and our new Twitter feed @PFAW_WI. We are posting daily on the hot news in the recalls and general elections from now through Election Day.

Marking the Titanic's Anniversary with Denunciations of Evolution and Feminism

While Truth in Action Ministries recently informed us that the “radical homosexual agenda” is the iceberg out to sink the ship that is America, it turns out that the plot is even thicker, as it appears that feminism and evolution are also culprits in the country’s devastation. Today on the group’s flagship radio program Truth that Transforms, Doug Phillips of Vision Forum appeared to discuss an event he organized in Branson, Missouri, “to celebrate [the] Christian Legacy of Titanic’s sinking.”

“Though more than 1,500 people died in this international tragedy, the Darwinian notion of the ‘survival of the fittest’ was rejected in favor of the age-old Christian doctrine that the ‘strong sacrifice for the weak,’” Phillips said in a statement.

As Julie Ingersoll in Religion Dispatches notes, “as is often the case with ‘providential history,’ the actual history is distorted to tell make specific theological points”:

By percentage, twice as many women in third class died as did women in first class; children in first class had nearly three times the survival rate of those in third. One would only use "raw numbers" if one was trying to make a point not supported by the numbers.

In biblical patriarchy, the refrain of "women and children first" hides an agenda whereby the women are "first" only insofar as they keep their place which is subordinate to men.

On Truth that Transforms, Phillips pointed to an 1898 shipwreck on the French ship La Bourgogne where hundreds of women and children died, blaming it on “a culture that embraced evolution” and “the French Revolution which had rejected biblical Christianity and embraced paganism.” He went on to argue that the theory of evolution ultimately leads to the growth of feminism, and the “result is babies are killed en masse, women are treated like chattel and men no longer take on their masculine role as defenders.” The host, former Concerned Women for America president Carmen Pate, later bemoaned that evolution and feminism have “infiltrated” almost all aspects of society:

Phillips: People that were on board the deck of the Titanic at that time were individuals that grew up in a culture which was distinctively Christian in its perspective of the role of men and women and there’s an interesting contrast because in the year 1898 a French vessel called La Bourgogne sunk and when it sunk the sailors and the officers literally threw women and children into the water, beat them over the head, and the men lived and the women died. It sent shockwaves throughout the entire world, people said, ‘how could such a thing happen?’ And in trying to understand why that happened, the commentary was, they grew up in a culture that embraced evolution, it was the struggle of the survival of the fittest, they grew up in the culture of the French Revolution which had rejected biblical Christianity and embraced paganism and the consequences were that men treat women horrifically.

Now we flash forward to the year 2012 and this year our president has finally taken us over the abyss and we have full-fledged commitment to women in the frontlines of combat in overseas battles, we need to understand that that’s the first time in the history of the West that any nation has formally endorsed such a thing and it represents a radical departure from the values that were on board the ship in 1912.

Phillips: Evolution says the struggle of the survival of the fittest, there are no differences between men and women, there is no charity, there is no deference, and in an evolutionary world feminism reaches its height and we see no distinctions. The result is babies are killed en masse, women are treated like chattel and men no longer take on their masculine role as defenders.

Pate: As you’ve pointed out, throughout society for thousands of years we have looked at the protection of the innocent as of utmost importance and yet as we’ve allowed evolution and feminism to infiltrate our education system, even our churches and certainly our entertainment, our the media, we have lost sight of what God’s word has said about the protection of the innocent.

The War on Women

How the War on Women Became Mainstream: Turning Back the Clock in Tea Party America

Family Research Council's Tony Perkins Hails Campaign to Ban Day of Silence over its 'Promotion of Homosexuality'

With anti-gay organizations like the American Family Association, Concerned Women for America and Liberty Counsel urging students to walkout of schools on April 20th to protest the Day of Silence, a day when students in many schools remain silent to draw attention to anti-gay bias and bullying, the Family Research Council is now endorsing one Connecticut pastor’s efforts to have the school prohibit any student from participating in the Day of Silence.

According to the New Haven Register, Loomer’s campaign is based on material from rabidly anti-gay activist Linda Harvey of Mission America, along with debunked claims that the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, which spearheads the Day of Silence, distributes pornographic material to children, pastor James Loomer of Milford is trying to convince his local school board to forbid students from partaking in the event. However, the school board’s own legal counsel and the American Civil Liberties Union notes that students have a right to participate in the Day of Silence during non-instructional time.

But Loomer’s unconstitutional and anti-gay ploy was rewarded with an interview on FRC president Tony Perkins’ radio show Washington Watch Weekly, where Loomer said that “parents will be so appalled at what the Day of Silence could lead their children into” and Perkins noted that while he opposed bullying, he also opposed anti-bullying efforts like the Day of Silence because it is “cover for the promotion of homosexuality” and commended Loomer’s efforts to ban it.

Loomer: If the board decides they don’t want to take any corrective actions we’re already making plans to call the city families together and just apprise them of the situation. I think the parents will be so appalled at what the Day of Silence could lead their children into that they’re going to want to stand up and say, ‘let’s get rid of this.’ There are alternative programs that focus on disrupting the bullying that goes on in schools but this is one that’s got a serious kickback to it.

Perkins: Look, bullying should not be taking place in our schools, every child in America should be able to go to school—public school, private school, wherever—without the fear of threat or being intimidated, regardless of what the cause is, whether they’re overweight, whether their religious viewpoints, no child should be bullied because they are effeminate or because of their sexual orientation or whatever, it shouldn’t happen, but we cannot allow these programs like the Day of Silence to come into our schools as a cover for the promotion of homosexuality. That’s what is happening with this so we appreciate Pastor Loomer and others who are drawing attention to this in communities across the country.

Rick Santorum thanks the Family Research Council after Ending Presidential Bid

Yesterday Rick Santorum dropped by a clearly distraught Tony Perkins’ radio show, where the far-right Family Research Council president lavished praise on the former senator and presidential candidate. Perkins in an earlier interview with MSNBC declined an opportunity to endorse Romney, criticizing his record on social issues and stressing that the group will be more involved with congressional races after Santorum dropped out. While Perkins did not endorse Santorum, it was obvious that he supported his candidacy and even took him to his home church where pastor Dennis Terry railed against liberals, non-Christians and gays.

Today on Washington Watch Weekly, Santorum again spoke to Perkins and said that the FRC’s message “was one that was very much consonant with mine,” and Perkins said that he and Santorum “were just harmonizing” as his policy views were “better than any candidate that we have seen do.”

Santorum: Thank you Tony and just let me say for all your listeners, thank you for your principled stance and going out there and supporting as a chorus the things that I was saying across this country and the things you’ve been saying for a long time, you were a great echo to us and really made a big difference. While as you know because of FRC not being able to endorse you guys didn’t do a formal endorsement but certainly your voice out there was one that was very much consonant with mine and was much, much appreciated.

Perkins: Senator, we were just harmonizing.

Santorum: There you go!

Perkins: Rick, it is the message. As I’ve said many times, FRC does not and did not endorse candidates, but we do endorse ideas and principles and those were the things that you were articulating better than any candidate that we have seen do, and we’re grateful for that.
