Pat Robertson: Haiti In Turmoil Because 'Satanic' Voodoo 'Destroys Them'

Back in 2010, “The 700 Club” host Pat Robertson blamed a deadly earthquake in Haiti on the “pact to the Devil” that he said Haitians made to escape French colonial rule, just one of several times the televangelist has said he knew the real reason behind disastrous events.

Keep that in mind when watching Robertson’s most recent remarks following a “700 Club” report on an American woman who went to Haiti to improve the conditions of homeless children.

Robertson blames the current turmoil in Haiti not only on government corruption but also on a declaration over a decade ago recognizing Voodoo as one of the country’s official religions. “Voodoo is a Satanic type of culture, it just destroys them,” he said.

The Pilgrims Were Behind The Original War On Christmas

While Religious Right activists like Pat Robertson regularly rail against the terrible oppression Christians in America suffer due to the liberals’ supposed “War on Christmas,” his very own show, “The 700 Club,” reminded us today who led the original “War on Christmas” in America: the Pilgrims.

Reporter Paul Strand reported today on how the Pilgrims were “some of history's most fervent opponents of Christmas.”

In her Patheos blog yesterday, Beth Allison Barr reminded us of how the War on Christmas went down in England:

Here’s the story in brief–as related by Diane Purkiss in The English Civil War: While Charles I was fighting during the 1640s for his crown (which he would lose along with his life in 1649), an increasingly radical Parliament governed England. In the words of Purkiss, “that transhistorical killjoy a Parliamentary subcommittee” was created in 1643 to reform the Church of England. It regarded the liturgical calendar of medieval Christianity as both a symbol of Catholicism and a distraction from the Gospel. Sunday was the only holy day worth honoring. All other festivals, including Christmas, should be cancelled.

Of course, this was easier said than done. Christmas was a beloved holiday revered in Tudor England. Asking people to give up Wassailing and Twelfth Night cake, not to mention their days off work, proved nigh impossible. Many people simply ignored the parliamentary decree of the “Solemn League and Covenant” subcommittee in 1643 and refused to go to work on Christmas day. Parliament cracked down in 1644 with an ordinance enforcing the Sunday fast day instead of the usual Christmas feast; in 1645 Parliament again declared Sunday and occasional celebrations as the only recognized holidays; finally in 1647 Parliament issued an ordinance officially cancelling all Christmas and Lenten celebrations, even arresting clergy preaching Christmas day sermons.

Despite initial resistance, this “War on Christmas” almost succeeded. Purkiss argues that the death of Oliver Cromwell in 1658 is what really “saved” Christmas (my apologies to Kirk Cameron’s movie last year). Although the ordinances were never fully realized–mobs forced Christmas celebrations in some areas–and even though the popularity of Edward Fisher’s 1649 defense of Christmas–which sold 6000 copies–suggests continued support for the holiday season, Purkiss argues that most people were beginning to conform “sulkily” by the 1650s. As Purkiss writes, “if the republic had lasted ten years longer, the old festive calendar would have been dead beyond recall.”

Mike Huckabee: LGBT Troops Destroying Military Morale

Earlier this month, Mike Huckabee joined American Family Radio host Dan Celia at Grove Avenue Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, where he was asked about the “twisted ideology” allegedly destroying the U.S. military.

Huckabee, who has previously pledged to restore Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and defended a ban on trans service members, denounced Obama administration efforts to permit open service by LGBT troops.

“The morale in our military has never been lower,” Huckabee said. “Among our service men and women, there is a great sense of discouragement because they did not sign up to be a part of a special club to try out social experiments to appease those who push for political correctness.”

Instead of focusing on keeping the country safe, Huckabee said, “there has been such a focus to making sure that we have same-sex relationships that were celebrated in the military, that we push for a complete inclusion and even the taxpayer-funded payment of transgender surgery for service persons who believe that they are another gender. I cannot imagine why we would spend a dime changing the gender of someone in the military when we have vets coming back without arms and legs that are waiting months in a VA facility, that is inexcusable.”

He then claimed that military service members shouldn’t “cook meals, build schools, make nice shelters and do the work of the Peace Corps,” since the “purpose of the United States military is to kill people and break things and to create the most awesome, feared force on the face of the earth.” Only then, he said, will America’s enemies “respect us.”

Huckabee also addressed the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision, which he once again labeled an “illegal and unconstitutional” ruling that should be ignored.

He blamed President Obama for the outcome of the ruling by “congratulating them on their sexual identity and sexual preference” and having “celebrated same-sex marriage” when he called openly gay athletes Jason Collins and Michael Sam after they came out of the closet.

After criticizing Obama’s support for marriage equality along with the major corporations that “put rainbows up on their website celebrating same-sex marriage,” Huckabee said “we would not be where we are in that decision had a president not given it the cultural kind of acceptance and the authenticity and the authenticating that he did.”

Rep. Mike Pompeo Urges Military To Defy Obama On Gitmo Closure

Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Kan., sent a letter to the Joint Chiefs of Staff last month, also signed by 15 of his fellow GOP congressman, urging the military leaders to “seek appropriate legal advice before following any executive order to transfer Guantanamo Bay (GTMO) detainees to the United States.” Pompeo told the Center for Security Policy’s Frank Gaffney yesterday that the letter was a way of telling service members that members of Congress “have their back” if they choose to defy an executive order meant to close the detention facility.

“It’s unconscionable to put our military leaders in this position, where the commander in chief asks of them something that is unlawful,” Pompeo told Gaffney. “And my intention was not to put pressure on those amazing soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, but rather to inform everyone that you can’t ask folks in the military to execute an unlawful order. And I hope that they understand that there members of Congress that have their back in the event that they choose to make a decision that comports with their duty.”

Huckabee: 'Duplicitous' And 'Irrational' Liberals Have Aligned With Islamists

During the debacle in Houston when lawyers for the city’s mayor issued and then withdrew subpoenas for the sermons of a handful of pastors who were campaigning for the repeal of a nondiscrimination ordinance, Mike Huckabee was “outraged” that “pastors would be told to turn over their sermons.” He said this “trampling of religious liberty” was a violation of the First Amendment that reminded him of the government persecution of Christians in North Korea.

Now, it seems that Huckabee has changed his tune, telling “Trunews” host and far-right conspiracy theorist Rick Wiles yesterday that the government should have no qualms about monitoring mosques because Christian pastors would have no problem turning their sermons over to the government.

He went on to say that liberals are “protective” of Muslims, insisting that the government monitoring of houses of worship is “perfectly legitimate.”

“Is the left in an alliance with Islam because they both share a common enemy, or actually two common enemies, Christianity and Israel?” Wiles then asked.

Huckabee agreed: “It’s hard for me to even get my arms around why the left is so protective of the religion of Islam, especially when the left wants to embrace homosexual rights and yet Islam would carry out the death penalty for a person who is homosexual.” (Of course, Huckabee recently addressed a summit led by a Christian pastor who advocated for the government to put gay people to death if they don’t repent).

“There is such an irrational position on the part of leftists,” he continued. “You have these positions that are supposedly so sacred to the people on the left, protecting abortion, protecting same-sex marriage, protecting homosexual rights, protecting transgenderism, well, go to Tehran and get out on the town square and make a big speech advocating transgender rights and let’s see how long you last in Tehran saying that or in Riyadh. You’re not going to live to tell about it. So it’s irrational to the point of almost being laughable that the left pretends to believe something but then everything they do is in violation of the things they claim that they believe.”

He went on to question why liberals believe it’s a “Christian responsibility” to accept Syrian refugees when they are waging war on Christmas and believe in the separation of church and state.

“It just shows how utterly duplicitous they are in all their views and what phony hypocrites they are,” he said, adding: “The left lives in la-la-land.”

Huckabee: 'Dangerous' Gun Control Laws Turn Us Into 'Total Servants Of The State'

Yesterday, Mike Huckabee spoke with “Trunews” host Rick Wiles about the massacre in San Bernardino, where he repeatedly pushed the now debunked claim that the two shooters posted praise for martyrdom and terrorism on social media.

“Trunews” was the perfect home for such speculation: Wiles himself is a master conspiracy theorist who thinks Obama is the Antichrist, a Hitler-like terrorist and “Luciferian Illuminatus” who will declare that he’s God and proved his Satanic roots when a housefly landed on him; urged people to flee the U.S. due to gay marriage, which he thinks will lead to mass deaths; and once hoped that Ebola would “solve America’s problems with atheism and homosexuality” by giving the country a “great attitude adjustment.”

When Wiles told Huckabee that liberals don’t care about the lives lost in San Bernardino, Huckabee claimed that liberals are “living in the Twilight Zone” and are only pushing stricter gun laws to allow the government to begin “controlling people” and “making people total servants of the state.”

Wiles: I don’t think the Left cares that 14 people were killed, I really don’t think they care.

Huckabee: They’re able to sock that away in a whole different dimension. It’s almost as if they’re living in the Twilight Zone. They can make a neat separation between reality and what their policies are and they don’t have to match. The reason they keep pushing for things like gun control even though gun control would not have stopped the San Bernardino killers, gun control wouldn’t have done anything to stop Sandy Hook, wouldn’t have stopped the Colorado shooter, you can go on and on.

Even though there’s no evidence whatsoever that the proposals they put forth would stop the very things they’re crying about, they keep putting it forth anyway because it’s not about protecting people, it’s not about — the real agenda, it’s about control, controlling people, making people total servants of the state and it’s a very dangerous political philosophy to adhere to.

Sarah Palin Identifies With Ben Carson's Struggle To 'Dig Into The Idiosyncrasies' Of Policy

In an interview with Newsmax’s J.D. Hayworth broadcast yesterday, former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin somewhat condescendingly praised Ben Carson’s “innocence,” which she said makes the presidential candidate “the antithesis of Hillary Clinton.”

Palin, however, seemed to identify with some of Carson’s struggles to master foreign policy issues, saying that “it is tough, jumping up there on a national stage when you hadn’t been there before to really dig into the idiosyncrasies of some of the issues the details of some of our especially foreign policy issues.”

She added that she admires that Carson is “not letting political consultants or those around him who would ever kind of want to change his message, just not letting anybody try to shape you or mold you into something that some consultant wants you to be.”

All of this, she said, was in contrast to Clinton, who is “still trying to buffalo voters into choosing” her even though she was by President Obama’s side and “shining his boots” while he was “growing government and creating this less secure, less sovereign nation of ours, fundamentally transforming it.”

Trump: Why Do Refugees Have Cell Phones?

At a campaign rally in Mesa, Arizona, today, Donald Trump, discussing reports that several asylum seekers in Norway had images of ISIS flags on their cell phones, wondered how the refugees got access to mobile phones in the first place.

“First of all, why are people in a migration having cell phones?” Trump asked. “It’s sort of strange. Who’s paying for those cell phones? Where are they coming from? Who are they calling? These are people — can you imagine, many, many, many cell phones. Where do they get cell phones? Who pays their monthly bill?”

One woman in the crowd incessantly shouted, “Obama!”

Trump also declared that Syrian refugees in the U.S. are “all going back” if he’s elected president.

This led him to claim that he has the support of a majority of Hispanic voters because they don’t want to be “overrun by people pouring across the borders.”

John Guandolo Hopes President Trump Throws Obama Officials In Jail For Treason

John Guandolo, the disgraced ex-FBI agent and conspiracy theorist who, thanks to fellow anti-Muslim activist Frank Gaffney, has shared the stage with GOP presidential candidates, appeared on yesterday’s edition of “Trunews,” where he once again accused President Obama and administration officials of committing treason.

He said that the Obama administration is “intentionally” aiding terrorists: “This administration, I believe, is treasonous.”

Guandolo claimed that Obama has an Islamic-Marxist worldview and has put likeminded people — “the children of communists, enemies of the United States” — into high-ranking government positions.

“I think whoever the next president is, whether it’s Mr. Cruz or Mr. Trump or somebody else, they are going to have to literally purge, and I’m going to use the word ‘purge,’ the system,” he said. “They’re going to have to clean house in the bureaucracy for communists, Marxists and jihadists that are inside our system.”

The Obama administration, Guandolo lamented, is ignoring all the people threatening the United States because government officials agree with their anti-American views.

Not only should such officials who “aid and abet the enemy” be purged from office, Guandolo said, but they should also be thrown in jail for treason.

Frank Gaffney: Obama 'Playing For The Other Team,' Committing 'Treason'

There’s a new star in the world of Frank Gaffney, an activist who was largely banished from mainstream GOP circles for alleging that both the Obama administration and the Republican Party have been infiltrated by the Muslim Brotherhood, but has since been enjoying the attention of Donald Trump and Ted Cruz.

In recent days, Gaffney has been promoting the story of Phillip Haney, a former Department of Homeland Security employee who claims that the Obama administration pulled the plug on an investigation that he was conducting that he claims could possibly have caught the San Bernardino terrorists. It’s hard to tell what of Haney’s story is true since DHS has stayed mum on it other than to tell Fox News that his tale has “many holes.” Haney mentioned in an interview with Sandy Rios this morning that he also locked horns with the Bush administration, but did not provide details.

But in any case, Gaffney has latched onto Haney’s story to promote his narrative that, as he told Indianapolis talk radio host Greg Garrison last week, President Obama is “playing for the other team” and that it is “indisputable” that the president is committing “treason.”

“What I believe this proves, beyond a shadow of a doubt — and I think this is also just the tip of the iceberg, by the way — is that the Obama administration is … well, they’re playing for the other team,” Gaffney told Garrison. “And this is an extraordinarily dangerous thing for this country to be experiencing at a moment like this, I think it’s contributing, frankly, to the mortal peril we’re facing from these jihadists.”

It is, he said, an “increasingly indisputable fact that this president is providing aid and comfort to enemies of the United States. And that is the definition, as you know, of treason.”

Ted Cruz: Obama Won't Fight Terrorists Because He 'Refuses To Distinguish Good Guys From Bad Guys'

In an interview with “Breitbart News Daily” in the spin room following last night’s Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas, Sen. Ted Cruz declared that his strategy to defeat domestic terrorism is to “target the terrorists,” something that he claimed President Obama won’t do because he “consistently refuses to distinguish good guys from bad guys.”

“You’re someone who probably has a better sense of the Constitution than just about anybody in living memory who’s ever run for the presidency,” Breitbart’s Stephen Bannon told Cruz before asking him, “How would you fight this war domestically here in the United States, given your reverence for the Constitution?”

“What we need to do is target the terrorists,” the Texas Republican responded. “And this is the consistent failing that the Obama administration has, is that it consistently refuses to distinguish good guys from bad guys. So, for instance, in the wake of San Bernardino, what does President Obama want to come out and do? Take away the Second Amendment right to bear arms of millions of law-abiding citizens.”

PFAW: Riders Threatening the Health of Our Democracy are “Wildly Inappropriate” Additions to Must-Pass Spending Bill

Attacks on Disclosure in Omnibus Make it Even More Urgent for the President to Issue an Executive Order on Money in Politics

WASHINGTON – In response to the release of the 2016 omnibus spending package, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statement:

“Though our political leaders came to their senses and didn’t include proposed riders that would have turned away refugees, undermined women’s health, and rolled back existing limits on coordination between political parties and candidates, it’s clear that the deal does include other ideological policy riders threatening the health of our democracy. One provision blocks rulemaking by the SEC to require companies to disclose their campaign spending; another stops the IRS from more clearly defining political activity to prevent organizations from exploiting the system. These are wildly inappropriate additions to a must-pass spending bill, and they should be removed immediately.

“The attacks on creating a more transparent democracy included in the bill make it even more urgent for President Obama to issue an executive order on disclosure. It’s clear that Republicans in Congress will do anything to stand in the way of Americans being able to see who is trying to buy influence in our democracy. It’s up to the president to act.”

Gun Lobbyist: Bundy Ranch 'Came Very Close' To Starting A 'Civil War' Against The Government

Larry Pratt, the executive director of Ted Cruz’s favorite gun group, Gun Owners of America, said in a radio interview last week that the armed standoff at the Bundy ranch in Nevada last year “came very close” to starting “a civil war between the people and the government,” but that the war was averted when the Bureau of Land Management backed down in the face of armed protesters.

Pratt spoke with Arizona radio host Dave Hodges, whose nationally broadcast “The Common Sense Show” is an outlet for anti-government conspiracy theories. Hodges, discussing potential executive actions on guns from President Obama, asked Pratt if he agreed that “if we did not own guns, this government, this tyranny, would roll right over us and we may find ourselves all in chains.”

“The Second Amendment is all about keeping government out of control, to keep it from moving off in a tyrannical direction,” Pratt responded. “And the most recent deployment of the Second Amendment occurred about three years ago in Bunkerville, Nevada, on Cliven Bundy’s ranch.”

Saying that the federal agents attempting to collect more than $1 million of unpaid fees for Bundy’s use of public land were acting “like a bunch of Jesse James outlaws,” Pratt boasted that their “plan didn’t work out because Americans came from all over the country during that standoff, with their guns.”

“Well, I think someday, Larry, the government’s going to back down,” Hodges said, “and I think that if Obama persists in the strategy of inventing false reasons to come get our guns, we’re going to see widespread violence and resistance. I mean, how do you gauge the American public’s mood and attitude toward gun confiscation?”

“Well, I think that standoff in Bunkerville, Nevada, was perhaps a canary in the coal mine and it told us that there is danger ahead,” Pratt responded. “But it also told the government that if you push too hard there will be pushback. And people did come with their guns and their ammunition and they were ready to shoot if the government attacked.”

“That seems to me to have been a lesson that was being sent to the government,” he continued, “and right now I don’t think any Democrat, let alone Republican, wants to have that kind of situation where their view’s precipitating the outbreak of civil war. And we came very close to that. And it wouldn’t have been a civil war between the North and the South, this would have been a civil war between the people and the government.”

The two went on to discuss Obama’s potential executive action requiring large gun dealers to conduct background checks, which Pratt has said Gun Owners of America will “openly defy.” Pratt gave Hodges some more details of this planned defiance, saying that if Obama were to go forward in the action, he would find somebody in his home state of Virginia to illegally buy a gun from or sell one to.

“Come and get us, Mr. President!” he declared. “You have no authority and if you try to exercise it we’re going to have you in court and your head spinning.”

Right-Wing Activist Warns Foreclosed Homes Will Soon House 100 Million Muslim Refugees

In an interview yesterday on “Trunews,” Avi Lipkin added a new twist to his conspiracy theory that the Free Mason/Illuminati/Trilateral Commission members “who control the world” are part of a plot to bring 50 to 100 million Muslim refugees to America, where they will be housed in national parks.

Lipkin told host Rick Wiles that the plan to bring 100 million Muslims to America “imminently” is on track as God destroys Israel’s “enemies” one by one, predicting that more people will flee the Middle East after God annihilates not only Syria and Iraq but also Turkey, Egypt and Iran.

“It’s an invasion,” he said. “They will use Agenda 21 to confiscate land to prepare for pure Islamic cities throughout the United States.”

When Wiles asked him if Muslims will exploit the “millions of foreclosed homes in the United States,” Lipkin affirmed that “Muslims will buy them all up,” or receive the properties for free from the government or Muslim organizations.

But on the bright side, Lipkin said that the U.S. economy will improve thanks to the upcoming “building boom” to house the tens of millions of refugees, although it would “make America a Muslim country” in the end.

Lipkin also told Wiles that “Muslims are a very, very big segment in every prison in the world,” including every single black inmate in the U.S.

The two then agreed that President Obama seeks to close the Guantanamo Bay prison in order to let terrorists recruit American prisoners.

Gun Owners Of America Vows To 'Openly Defy' Obama Executive Order On Guns

Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, said on Friday that if President Obama implements an executive order expanding background check requirements for gun dealers, his group will “make a very public effort to openly defy the law” in what he described as a national version of the armed showdown at the Bundy ranch in Nevada.

Pratt’s group has gotten some very public support recently from GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz, who touted GOA’s endorsement in a presidential debate and recently sent a fundraising email on behalf of the group. The president of GOA also chairs Cruz’s Second Amendment Coalition.

Pratt told Aaron McIntire, who was guest-hosting Iowa talk radio host Steve Deace’s program, that GOA has a plan in the works to defy any such order. “If the president goes ahead and tries to do something for which he doesn’t have legal authority, let alone have constitutional authority, we’re going to make a very public effort to openly defy the law,” he said. “‘Come and get us’ would be, I guess, the flag flying here at Gun Owners of America.”

Pratt never specified what exactly open defiance of background check regulations would look like, but he said something like it happened “in a microcosm” at the Bundy ranch, where armed militia groups faced off against the Bureau of Land Management in defense of a rancher who had failed to pay more than $1 million in fees for using public land.

“I think it would be a major blunder for this administration to go ahead and initiate a gun control agenda that it admittedly cannot get through the Congress,” Pratt said. “The Constitution bars it as well. And yet for them to even talk about it gets people’s ire going pretty well and for them to actually try to do something I guarantee you will produce open defiance here at Gun Owners of America. I will have a courier deliver a letter to the White House announcing that you can take your extraordinary illegal and unconstitutional measures and you can clean your ear with them, because we’re not complying.”

“It’s just to the point where they’ve gone too far,” he continued. “They tried this in a microcosm in Bunkerville, Nevada. They had invaded a man’s land in a dispute over what was his proper use of it and while the matter was in court they weren’t going to wait, they were going to decide it with raw force. Well, that didn’t work out so well because the American people, armed, rallied to that rancher and came daily, toward the end hourly, to his ranch to defend him with guns. And so the federal government backed down. That was the Second Amendment at work in its full and robust fashion. And I would have thought the administration would have learned a lesson, but here we are in the last period of this president’s term … so I guess what we’re seeing is the full Obama, and it’s not very pretty.”

Personhood USA: Charge Women Who Have Abortions With Murder

Personhood USA, the group that has been attempting to pass state-level fetal “personhood” measures across the country, is applauding the attempted murder prosecution of a Tennessee woman who tried to give herself an abortion with a coat hanger, lamenting that women who obtain safe and legal abortions don't face the same penalty.

The Tennessee woman, Anna Yocca, was charged with attempted first-degree murder when she attempted to abort at 24-week pregnancy with a coat hanger in her bathtub. She panicked, went to the hospital, and delivered a 1.5 pound baby. A police spokesman told the media that “the whole time [Yocca] was concerned for her health, her safety, and never gave any attention to the health and safety to the unborn child.”

Sadly, Yocca’s case is not unique. A woman in Indiana was similarly charged with allegedly attempting to self-induce an abortion earlier this year. In fact, stealth “personhood” measures — meant to lay the groundwork for criminalizing abortion by granting certain rights to fetuses — have been passed around the country. In Alabama, the state supreme court has used “chemical endangerment” laws to lay the legal groundwork for fetal personhood, leading to the prosecutions of nearly 500 women accused of endangering their fetuses.

In an email to Personhood USA supporters today, the group’s communications director Jennifer Mason applauded Yocca’s prosecution but lamented that Tennesee law protects women who "hire an abortionist to kill their babies."

“As a mom, it’s hard to imagine the mental state of a woman who would so viciously harm both herself and her child, whether it be at her own hands or at a government-funded facility like Planned Parenthood,” Mason wrote. “This is why we need Personhood!”

Have you heard about this? Murfreesboro, TN resident Anna Yocca has been indicted and arrested on first degree attempted murder charges following a months-long grand jury investigation, despite campaigns for impunity for pregnant women from anti-baby organizations such as National Advocates for Pregnant Women.

The Washington Post reports that Yocca attempted an abortion with a wire coat hanger when her unborn baby was 24 weeks old. Fearful for her own safety, she went to the hospital where her 1.5 pound baby boy was delivered. The newborn baby boy survived, but physicians say that the baby’s quality of life is forever damaged and he will need oxygen and medication throughout his life due to damage to his eyes, heart, and lungs from his mother’s coat hanger weapon. The Murfreesboro Post also reports that physicians state that other health issues will arise as he grows.

The laws in Tennessee are so blatantly biased in favor of abortion clinics, it's almost difficult to believe. Had Anna Yocca stabbed her baby multiple times just a few months later, an attempted murder indictment would have been expected. The small public outcry about this case from pro-abortion organizations is just a disturbing effort to dehumanize this little boy who survived an attempt on his life.

While Tennessee law does allow for attempted murder charges in cases such as Yocca’s, the law provides specific provisions for women to hire an abortionist to kill their babies at Planned Parenthood in Nashville and around the state.

As a mom, it’s hard to imagine the mental state of a woman who would so viciously harm both herself and her child, whether it be at her own hands or at a government-funded facility like Planned Parenthood. This is why we need Personhood! Of course this little baby's life is precious and should be protected and legally defended, as should every other baby!

Everything You Need To Know About Tony Perkins, The Man Who Brought The Religious Right To Ted Cruz

The National Review reports today that Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council, convened a meeting last week at which several dozen influential Religious Right activists sought to unify their support behind a single presidential candidate. Ted Cruz ultimately won a supermajority of those involved, and as a result “an avalanche of endorsements is forthcoming from conservative leaders,” including a looming endorsement from Perkins.

Perkins previously served as a state lawmaker in Louisiana and unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Senate in 2002. His career was not without controversy: He spoke at least twice to the white nationalist Council of Conservative Citizens and reportedly “paid former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke $82,500 for his mailing list” while working as the campaign manager for failed U.S. Senate candidate Woody Jenkins. “The Federal Election Commission fined the campaign Perkins ran $3,000 for attempting to hide the money paid to Duke,” reported The Nation.

Despite Perkins’ high standing in the conservative movement, his positions place him far outside the mainstream. This isn’t just because he opposes things like gay marriage and abortion rights, as most conservative leaders do. Instead, Perkins has a record of labeling his political opponents as satanic, conjuring up wild conspiracy theories and backing extremist legislation around the world, including a Uganda bill that would have imposed the death penalty or life prison sentences for some gay people.

Of course, seeing that Cruz has already touted endorsements from a convicted abortion doctor stalker, an activist who wants abortion providers to be executed and activists who link gay people to everything from Ebola to Amtrak crashes to terrorism to the Holocaust, Perkins will fit right in.

Perkins on LGBT rights:

  • Claimed gay youth have a higher suicide rate because they intrinsically know their sexual orientation is “abnormal.”
  • Alleged that America’s enemies would celebrate the lifting of the military’s ban on transgender service members.
  • Urged states to defy court decisions in favor of marriage equality since they are “inconsistent with nature itself” and “certainly inconsistent with scripture.”
  • Claimed that militaries that allow LGBT people to serve openly — which includes Israel’s — are “the ones that participate in parades, they don't fight wars to keep the nation and the world free.”

Perkins on LGBT rights supporters:

  • Described LGBT rights activists as pawns of the Devil: “The Enemy is simply using them as pawns, they are held captive by the Enemy.”
  • Argued that LGBT rights activists want “the indoctrination of our kids” because “there is an emptiness within them” and “they are looking for that acceptance.”
  • Warned that “global homosexuality” and “radical sexualism” is promoting “immorality” and the persecution of Christians.
  • Claimed state hate crimes laws breed “chaos” and lead to “indoctrination of our children in schools and the loss of religious freedom and the freedom of speech.”
  • Insisted that the 2009 Shepard-Byrd Hate Crimes Act made it a “federal crime” to be a Christian.

Perkins on religious freedom and religious minorities:

  • Warned that “liberal Jewish folk” who support marriage equality and abortion rights are undermining Israel.
  • Lambasted Christians who support Planned Parenthood and abortion rights as phony Christians.
  • Called Islam an “evil” religion.
  • Attacked supporters of refugee resettlement as those who “hate America” and seek to bring in Muslims to undermine “the values of America.”
  • Said the government shouldn’t treat those who adhere to “fringe religions” as equals to Christians.

Perkins on President Obama:

  • Said of Obama: “I think he has been the worst president this country ever had and if he has four more years in the White House I don’t know that the country can survive his attacks on the family.”
  • Likened Obama to an evil king who was punished by God in the Bible.
  • Warned that Obama wants to “eliminate” Christian teachings.
  • Claimed Obama administration officials have done “nothing” to stop ISIS because they are “busy pushing their own radical social policy agenda.”
  • Defended a conspiracy theory about Obama deliberately spreading to Ebola in order to justify marital law.
  • Said that Obama “despises the military and everything that it stands for and has systematically been dismantling it and demoralizing our military.”

Frank Pavone: Abortion Providers Are Probably 'Doing A Lot Of Other Evil Things As Well'

Something that’s important to understand about the anti-abortion movement’s ongoing efforts to discredit Planned Parenthood is that for many in the movement, the women’s health provider is already guilty of committing a crime by providing abortions. But since abortion is legal in the United States, Planned Parenthood’s adversaries have been trying desperately for years to find actual crimes that the group is guilty of in order to bring it down. This summer’s smear videos from the Center for Medical Progress grew out of that line of thinking.

Priests for Life’s Father Frank Pavone, who says he was “close to” the Center for Medical Progress officials who led the most recent attack on Planned Parenthood, made this point very clearly in a conference call for anti-abortion activists that he hosted last night along with the Susan B. Anthony List’s Marjorie Dannenfelser. (GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina also spoke on the call.)

Pavone told the activists on the call that a key part of his strategy is to “expose the abortion industry” and “rip the veil off what’s going on behind the closed doors of the abortion clinics.”

“And when we look there,” he said, “we see the truth that I have often reiterated, that you cannot practice vice virtuously. If you have such a seared conscience that you’re killing babies, well, friends, you’re going to be doing a lot of other evil things as well: medical malpractice, sexual abuse of patients, violation of OSHA standards, insurance laws, money laundering, all kinds of fraud and, yes, even the sale of body parts. All of this and much more is going on in the abortion industry.”

In other words, if you are such a depraved person that you will provide abortions, then you are probably a sexual predator, fraudster, and any other sort of criminal as well and thus Planned Parenthood is probably selling fetal tissue for profit just because it is used to doing “evil” things and is just waiting to be exposed.

Pavone also boasted of his role in a previous, similar attack on Planned Parenthood orchestrated by Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics, which we wrote about in a recent report.

Carly Fiorina Promises To Nominate Anti-Choice Supreme Court Justices

In a conference call with anti-abortion activists last night, Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina promised that, if elected, she would “nominate pro-life justices” to the Supreme Court along with signing a budget defunding Planned Parenthood and pushing through a national 20-week abortion ban.

“Here’s what I will do and here’s what I want people to hold me accountable for,” she said on a conference call hosted by the Susan B. Anthony List's Marjorie Dannenfelser and Priests for Life's Frank Pavone. “If President Obama vetoes our attempts between now and the election — which, unfortunately, sadly, he may — I will deliver a budget that defunds Planned Parenthood. I will nominate pro-life justices. I will get the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protect Act passed.”

When she ran for Senate in California in 2010, Fiorina said that abortion rights would not be a litmus test for her votes on Supreme Court nominees.

Fiorina, who has come under fire for a series of falsehoods on the campaign trail, including repeatedly describing a video of Planned Parenthood that does not exist, also told participants that her main strategy for handling hostile questioning is to always “speak the truth.”

“You know, the truth shall set you free,” she said. “We all know this, we read it in the Bible. The truth shall set you free.”

“Don’t worry so much about finding exactly the right words, if that’s what you’re worried about,” she advised. “Worry about, concentrate on speaking the truth. Speak what you know to be the truth. that’s a powerful thing, it’s always a powerful thing, and that’s what I will keep doing. No one is going to frighten me into silence.”

Dannenfelser, the president of the Susan B. Anthony List, has made no secret of her admiration for Fiorina, telling call participants that Fiorina is a model candidate for her organization, which largely endorses female candidates opposed to abortion rights.
