Yesterday on “Washington Watch,” Family Research Council official Craig James spoke to Ken Barun of the Billy Graham Evangelical Association about Franklin Graham’s upcoming 50-state tour “to encourage Christians to get out and vote, and to cast their ballots for candidates who uphold biblical principles.”
Barun, who worked for Nancy Reagan in the White House, told James that upon seeing the White House lit up in “the gay colors” to celebrate LGBT Pride Month in June, “it was like someone stabbed me in the gut.”
“To cast sin in front of that house was abominable,” he said.
James agreed with Barun’s assessment, telling a story about how one of his friends thought his late grandparents “would throw up” if they knew what America is like today.
CitizenGo, the international citizen activism group for which the National Organization for Marriage’s Brian Brown serves as a trustee, is joining the Right’s pile-on of Target for phasing out gender-specific signage in some of its kids’ departments, warning that the new policy will “promote transgenderism among children.”
In a petition circulated by CitizenGo’s US campaigns director, Josh Craddock, the group warns that Target, by removing signs like those distinguishing between “building sets” and “girls’ building sets,” has caved to pressure by “radical gender theorists” and “sexual radicals” who “want to erase distinctions between male and female, and promote transgenderism among children”:
But now, under pressure from radical gender theorists, Target decided to go "gender neutral" by removing "gender and signs and using gender indicators, especially as it relates to kids" from its stores. The sexual radicals who encouraged Target to reverse its policy ultimately want to erase distinctions between male and female, and promote transgenderism among children.
Faith2Action’s Janet Porter made a similar connection in promoting a boycott of the retail chain, claiming that the new policy is the result of “Bruce Jenner’s surgery… where he now pretends to be a woman full time.”
Franklin Graham led the Religious Right charge against Target earlier this week when he posted on Facebook that it is “not the gender-neutral people out there” who “made their stores strong”:
I think Target may be forgetting who has made their stores strong. It’s not gender-neutral people out there—it’s working American families, fathers and mothers with boys and girls they love. What’s next? Are they going to try to make people believe that pink or blue baby showers are politically incorrect? I have news for them and for everyone else—God created two different genders. Jesus said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning made them male and female (Matthew 19:4). You can’t get any clearer than that. If you agree, share in the comments below—and let Target know what you think. Let them know that you are perfectly willing to shop where the genders God created are appreciated.
In an appearance on Fox News, Graham declared that “this whole gender-neutral business has gone too far,” accusing Target of “ignoring the millions of customers you have that are just hard-working families with children, and they’re not gender-neutral children, these are boys and girls, the way God made us.”
Fox News’ Brian Kilmeade, for his part, worried that the new Target policy would promote confusing among shoppers: “If you go to buy a gift for a boy who's nine or six or a girl who's nine or six, you want to be able to go to that section and pick out a toy they might want. Now you have to sit there and look at a blended area and wonder is this for a boy or is this for a girl?”
Vladimir Putin has become a bona fide hero to American Religious Right activists, who see him as a conservative Christian counterweight to President Obama and his support for LGBT equality. Anti-gay activists, for instance, rallied around the Russian leader after the Kremlin approved a ban on speech dealing with “homosexual propaganda” to minors.
U.S. Religious Right activists have prioritized their absolute contempt for the LGBT community above solidarity with Protestants in Russia, who have comeunderattack by the state and its allies in the Orthodox Church, which views evangelicals as heretics. Protestants in the occupied area of eastern Ukraine have faced violent attacks from Putin-backed forces.
Seeing that American conservatives are more than happy to ignore Putin’s campaign against Protestantism since he is, after all, the defender of traditional marriage against gay rights, it is more than likely that they will look the other way now that he is “potentially allowing — or at the very least turning a blind eye to — polygamy among Russia’s estimated 16 million Muslims.”
Julia Ioffe explained in Foreign Policy last week that the Russian government allowed for a friend of Chechnya’s leader to take a second wife in a case that received widespread attention in the country.
As Ioffe writes, “Christian warrior Vladimir Putin” has allowed for the Chechen government to enforce Islamic religious law within its boundaries. Putin’s decision to allow Chechnya to become “a small Islamic state within the borders of the Russian Federation” has paved the way for the legalization of polygamy.
Ioffe points to a case where a teenage girl was married to a 57-year-old police chief who was already married at the time in an arrangement that had all the appearances of a forced marriage. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who, like Putin, has a notorious human rights record, made sure that the wedding took place and even appeared at the reception.
One of polygamy’s noted defenders ended up being the country’s foremost supporter of the “homosexual propaganda” law: Yelena Mizulina. Ioffe writes:
[W]hen a lone member of the parliament proposed a law criminalizing polygamy, the initiative was duly shot down by Yelena Mizulina, the parliamentarian who was among the most vocal supporters of Russia’s anti-gay laws and other “traditional values” initiatives. Criminalizing polygamy, Mizulina said, was “absurd.” The reason for polygamy, she argued was that “there are not enough men, the kind with whom women would want to start a family and have children.” Last week, Mizulina was promoted to the upper chamber of parliament.
Putin’s “ombudsman for children’s rights — who was behind Russia’s ban on American adoptions,” Ioffe adds, justified the wedding by claiming that “in the North Caucasus, puberty hits earlier, so 16 was a great age for marrying. ‘There are places where women shrivel up by 27,’ he said.”
The Religious Right’s support for Putin, an authoritarian leader who has infringed on basic liberties and the democratic process, undermined the freedom of religion, particularly for Protestants, and allowed for the creation of a Sharia law enclave where polygamy is legal, once again proves that for a certain segment of American conservatives, everything comes down to opposing homosexuality.
Franklin Graham has a warning for President Obama: Watch out for God’s wrath!
On his Facebook page yesterday, Graham wrote that the White House’s decision to celebrate LGBT Pride month and the Supreme Court’s marriage equality decision with rainbow colors may incite a lightning strike from an angry God.
NBC has cut ties with Donald Trump over his recent statement that immigrants from Mexico are drug runners, criminals, and rapists.
Franklin Graham is furious that the White House was lit up in rainbow colors following the Supreme Court ruling legalizing gay marriage: "This is outrageous—a real slap in the face to the millions of Americans who do not support same-sex marriage and whose voice is being ignored."
Gordon Klingenschmitt "congratulates" the gay community on the Supreme Court win: "Let me offer the gay community my sincere congratulations. They fought hard on this issue for decades. And they won. So for the time being, they may feel great political joy. Under American law they can now marry. But under God’s law, this will always be a sin."
One News Now needs your help deciding "what event most reflects America's monumental shift away from God's moral code?"
Finally, Theodore Shoebat calls for the rainbow "fag flag" to be burned: "I say keep the Confederate flag and strip every single one of these repulsive, diabolical little flags. Shred them to pieces, burn them, take them down and rip them up. Do whatever is necessary to destroy these idols. All of those in the South, who want to see the Confederate flag remain hoisted and presented, should, in multitudes, burn these horrid sodomite flags, to shake up the government and let them know: we know why you are doing this, you have an agenda, and that is to strip away traditional Southern culture and replace it with the modernist antichrist ideology."
Fox News commentator Todd Starnes interviewed Franklin Graham today about the Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states, which Graham decried because "our government is recognizing sin" and it will lead to the persecution of Christians and God unleashing His judgment upon America.
While it is a sad day for America when the Supreme Court will "endorse sin," Graham vowed that "I will never recognize it in my heart" because "God gave us marriage and God does not change his mind."
Graham went on to warn Christians that "you had better be ready and you had better be prepared" because the wholesale persecution of Christianity will now be unleashed, as will, ultimately, God's judgment on this nation.
"I do believe that God's judgment will come on this nation," he said, noting that just as God brought judgment upon the nation of Israel in the Bible, so too will He bring judgment on America.
Fresh from his failed anti-LGBT bank boycott, Franklin Graham shared his outrage on Facebook today about an LGBT Pride Month celebration in the White House.
“The shift in attitudes he refers to is the moral decline we are seeing manifest daily around us,” Graham wrote. “The President is leading this nation on a sinful course, and God will judge him and us as a nation if we don’t repent.”
President Barack Obama was right about one thing in the speech he gave at a Gay Pride event he hosted in the White House yesterday. He said, “There has been an incredible shift in attitudes across the country.” That’s true—but it is definitely not a shift for the good of America. The shift in attitudes he refers to is the moral decline we are seeing manifest daily around us. Accepting wrong as right—accepting sin as something to be proud of. Yes, that’s definitely a shift. Should we be surprised that he thanked the LGBT community for all that they had helped him accomplish during his time as president? He said, “A lot of what we’ve accomplished over these last six and a half years has been because of you.” He also noted there were two states where gay marriage was legal when he took office, but now there are 37. The President is leading this nation on a sinful course, and God will judge him and us as a nation if we don’t repent.
It seems that immigration, gay rights and legal abortion are all about to destroy America, and there is nothing conservatives can do to stave off destruction until President Obama leaves office … unless, of course, Hillary Clinton gets elected, in which case we’re all doomed.
Linda Harvey wants it made clear that "Bruce Jenner is still a guy, and God is not mocked."
Glenn Beck falsely declares that "you have people now who are being put in jail because they were a baker who wouldn’t make [for a gay couple's wedding] — in jail! Not a fine. Jail."
Finally, FRC prays for this nation because "our leaders are intentionally depleting American military power, converting an institution intended to defend our nation by fighting and winning wars into a massive social experiment. Prompted by the Obama Administration, they are mainstreaming LGBT behavior and thus subjecting our young warriors to an epidemic of homosexual assault – all for the sake of an immoral and blind ideology."
Graham urged people to “love” their gay and lesbian neighbors “enough to warn them” that they will “spend eternity in Hell” since “God has no hope but to judge them” if they are “practicing the gay and lesbian lifestyle.” This led him to rail against churches that accept LGBT Christians, a decision which he warns will ultimately destroy the church.
“If a person says, ‘but I’m gay,’ okay fine, you don’t practice it, you have to stay away,” Graham said. “What’s happening is we are seeing in churches, where churches are accepting gay and lesbian couples who are living in sin, living the gay lifestyle, not repenting and the church is letting them in. This is so dangerous and it is going to destroy our church in this country if this continues.”
He predicted that God’s judgment “is coming soon” and “the end is coming.”
“I believe we are in the midnight hour as far as God’s clock is concerned or we may be in the last minutes, but of those last minutes it may be another hundred years, I don’t know, but when you see how quickly our country is deteriorating, how quickly the world is deteriorating morally, especially under this administration, we have seen that it has just taken a nosedive off of the moral diving board into the cesspool of humanity,” he said.
Upset that Wells Fargo is running an ad which includes the story of a lesbian couple learning sign language before adopting a child who is deaf, Franklin Graham announced last week that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association will no longer do business with the bank.
A bank spokesman said the company hopes to “support the individuals and organizations that broaden our perspectives and strengthen the diverse fabric of our communities. That’s why BB&T is proud to be a part of this day of pride and celebration of the 2015 Legacy Couples.”
Franklin Graham has announced that the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association will pull its accounts from Wells Fargo because the bank ran an ad featuring a lesbian couple.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio warns that "there’s a push afoot nationally to sign up more Hispanics to be able to vote. But you have to be careful now [because] if you legalize these guys, these people, they are going to vote."
Larry Tomczak frets that the ABC Family program "Becoming Us" is being used "to further pervert the lives of our children and grandchildren."
Gov. Scott Walker says that he would support an effort to amend the constitution if the Supreme Court legalizes gay marriage.
Finally, Scott Lively has some thoughts: "Bruce 'Caitlyn' Jenner is no more an actual woman than Star Trek’s Michael Dorn is an actual Klingon."
Sandy Rios, the far-right host of American Family Radio’s “Sandy Rios in the Morning,” is unhappy with people expressing their happiness for Caitlyn Jenner. In fact, Rios laments that Jenner’s gender transition is “a human tragedy” and “probably one of the saddest stories on the news sites this week.”
Rios warned her listeners this morning that they would “see today, if you haven’t already, that the cover of Vanity Fair is the new Bruce Jenner, calling himself Caitlyn Jenner. It’s, uh, a photo spread done by Annie Leibovitz, who’s a very famous photographer.”
This sentiment, as well as the inability to use the correct pronouns, was echoed by evangelist Franklin Graham, who took to Facebook today to critique Vanity Fair’s coverage of Jenner, claiming that “the author talks as if Bruce and his newly chosen identity of ‘Caitlyn’ are two separate people. Bruce’s son Burt said, ‘I have high hopes that Caitlyn is a better person than Bruce.’ The article also says Jenner openly acknowledges mistakes made with his children as Bruce, ‘and expresses genuine regret.’”
But Graham has “news for them,” insisting that “changing the outside doesn’t change the inside. No man-made modification can fix what’s wrong with the heart. Only God can fix the human heart. If we ask for His forgiveness and accept by faith His Son, Jesus Christ, He will wipe the slate clean. The Bible says, ‘Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new’ (2 Corinthians 5:17).”
In Vanity Fair’s cover story about Bruce Jenner’s gender change, the author talks as if Bruce and his newly chosen...
Donald Trump humbly explains why he'll make a great presidential candidate: "I’m the most successful person ever to run for the presidency, by far. Nobody’s ever been more successful than me."
Apparently a new poll showing that a majority of Americans describe themselves as "pro-choice" is actually good news for those who want to outlaw abortion.
Finally, Franklin Graham issues another dire warning about the possible legalization of gay marriage: "This is a pivotal moment in the history of our nation. If the nation's highest court decrees same-sex marriage as the law of the land, the consequences will be grave. It sets the stage for persecution of believers who are committed to the truth of Scripture. Can pastors preach against homosexuality without being accused of hate speech? Can Christian schools and colleges deny housing to same-sex couples and maintain their tax-exempt status? The ultimate danger, of course, is the devastating results of disobedience to God's Word. Continual blatant sexual immorality that shakes its arrogant, godless fist before Almighty God is a flashing red sign warning of the imminent disintegration of a culture."
Even as the Religious Right’s favorite reality TV family is rocked by a sexual abuse scandal, the American Family Association is urging its members to pull their sons from the Boy Scouts out of fear that gay troop leaders will sexually molest them and recruit them into homosexuality.
Former AFA official Bryan Fischer, who hosts a daily program on the organization’s radio network, called Boy Scouts head Robert Gates’ support for admitting gay troop leaders “a disaster, a moral catastrophe.” If gay men are allowed to lead Boy Scout troops, he said, “It’s no longer going to be Boy Scouts of America, it’s going to be Gay Pedophiles Scouting For Boys”:
The AFA’s Randy Sharp told the organization’s OneNewsNow news outlet today that lifting the ban on gay troop leaders would present a “clear and present danger” to boys and that there for parents should “immediately remove their sons” from the organization:
He was hinting at a policy revision to allow open homosexuals to act as leaders and mentors to scouts.
Randy Sharp, director of Special Projects at the American Family Association, says the Boy Scouts are playing with a "clear and present danger" and parents should be aware.
"We would urge all parents to immediately remove their sons from the Boy Scouts of America," Sharp, speaking for the pro-family group, tells OneNewsNow.
He says homosexual leaders are poised to influence boys about their sexuality and their presence subjects boys to opportunities for sexual abuse by their trusted leaders.
John Stemberger, head of the rival organization Trail Life USA, similarly warned that such a “tragic” move by the Boy Scouts would endanger “the safety and security of its boys” and even allow “the homosexual agenda to infiltrate the church”:
John Stemberger, chairman of the board for Trail Life USA, said in a statement that Trail Life is "saddened" by the Boy Scouts' announcement.
"It is tragic that the BSA is willing to risk the safety and security of its boys because of peer pressure from activist groups," he said.
Many churches that sponsored Boy Scout troops also dropped their support and Sharp says Gates' announcement is an "opportunity for the homosexual agenda to infiltrate the church."
Meanwhile anti-gay activist Michael Brown told WorldNetDaily that allowing gay Boy Scout leaders not only “opens the door for sexual predators,” it also “opens the door for gay boys to be flirting with straight boys under the auspices of the Boy Scouts’:
Michael Brown, who holds a Ph.D. from New York University and has researched and written a number of books on homosexuality, says he is not surprised by the Scouts.
“I said from the start that gay activists would not stop at having openly homosexual boys in the Boy Scouts, but now it’s openly homosexual leaders.”
Brown, whose books include “Can You Be Gay and Christian?” and the upcoming “Outlasting the Gay Revolution: Where Homosexual Activism Is Really Going and How to Turn the Tide,” believes if the Boy Scouts accept openly homosexual leaders, they will cease to be a positive moral force in the lives of American boys.
“This sets a wrong role model for these kids,” Brown told WND.
Yet, Brown says parents should have further concerns.
“This opens the door for sexual predators, a real danger, and it opens the door for gay boys to be flirting with straight boys under the auspices of the Boy Scouts,” he said.
Americans for Truth About Homosexuality’s Peter LaBarbera, for his part, told OneNewsNow that by allowing gay leaders, the Boy Scouts would “promote the acceptance of sexual perversion”:
"Because you cannot be a wholesome organization and promote the acceptance of sexual perversion at the same time," he warns.
As Brian wroteearlier today, evangelist Franklin Graham has warned that the move “would put young, innocent boys at risk,” while conservative author Paul Kengor said that a lack of “courage” from the Boy
“Robert Gates, shame on you for not having the moral courage to do what is right,” Graham said, calling on followers to threaten to leave the Boy Scouts if they go ahead in “bending to LGBT activist groups” and “put young, innocent boys at risk.”
Another conservative commentator, Paul Kengor, told WorldNetDaily that Gates’s announcement “torched” the scout oath. “When not even the Boy Scouts have courage anymore,” he warned, “America can rest in peace.”
Paul Kengor, a professor of political science and author of “Takedown: From Communists to Progressives, How the Left Has Sabotaged Family and Marriage,” warned the latest triumph by activists is a testament to the effectiveness of political terror.
In an interview with WND, Kengor said it’s “really a shame about the Boy Scouts.”
“Their oath forever has been about obeying God and being physically and morally straight and strong. It’s their motto. That has been torched,” he said.
“They’ve caved to the forces of ‘tolerance’ and ‘diversity’ who relentlessly picket and harass and attack and sue and scream at and demonize and dehumanize and destroy those who disagree with their completely new configurations of marriage, family, sexuality, and even morality itself.”
The Boy Scouts have shown themselves to be just as craven as all the other organizations that the gay-marriage brigades target,” Kengor charged. “When not even the Boy Scouts have courage anymore, America can rest in peace.”
Franklin Graham recently announced that he will be leading "prayer rallies" in all 50 states next year, designed to mobilize conservative Christians to vote and run for office because, among other things, "LGBT activists, abortion rights advocates, aggressive atheist groups, and others who ignore God’s Word are trying to shove their agenda down our throats":
In 2016, I plan to hold prayer rallies in all 50 states. I believe God has called us to this. We’re naming it the Decision America Tour. I want to challenge Christians across our land to boldly live out their faith and to pray fervently and faithfully for our nation and all its leaders. I want to encourage Christians to get out and vote in the coming election year. We will not be endorsing any political candidates, but I will urge people to vote for those on the ballot who uphold biblical principles, and I will be sharing the life-changing truth of God’s Gospel in every state.
Can you imagine what a difference it could make if in the next election Christians went to the polls in unprecedented numbers? And if Christians ran for every elected office available at all levels—local, state, and national? School board members, city council members, judges, mayors—all of these are such critical positions. Just think of what would happen if the school board in your own community was made up of Christians. I’ll bet things would begin to change for the better in those schools.
Jesus said we are to be the salt and the light in this world. Salt preserves and can bring healing. We are to speak the truth of God’s Word to a society that is racing in the opposite direction, in moral decline, at warp speed. Jesus said that as lights, we are to shine brightly—up on a lampstand so everyone can see and not hidden under a basket.
Jesus instructs us, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16, NKJV).
Friends, America is in trouble. At age 62, I’ve lived long enough to learn that no political party or politician is the answer. The only hope for this country is Almighty God and His Son. We can’t sit idly by any longer. LGBT activists, abortion rights advocates, aggressive atheist groups, and others who ignore God’s Word are trying to shove their agenda down our throats. We need to take every opportunity to speak up for biblical standards and let our lights shine. We need to work to preserve our religious freedoms so that we can continue to proclaim the Gospel freely. If we as Christians stand together and let our voice be heard, I believe God can use us to make a difference. I hope you will start praying with us now.
In a video announcing the tour, Graham says the goal is not only to get "Christians to vote for candidates, men and women who will stand for biblical values," but also to mobilize "Christians to run [for office] at the local level, the state level, the federal level [and] raise up an army of men and women who are willing to get into the political field and hold to biblical values" in an effort to save America.
Cindy Jacobs offers some prophetic insights:"Women will determine the next election, and Asians will be the swing vote. The states will polarize on an even greater level, and some will threaten to break with the union if their state constitutions are violated."
Jan Markell has "no idea what has caused [Jimmy] Carter to become anti-Semitic."
Randall Terry has started a GoFundMe campaign seeking to raise $200,000, claiming to have received death threats from radical Muslims.
Franklin Graham defends Tony Perkins: "I know Tony. He’s a great American and a strong Christian. Just because Christians take a stand aligned with what the Word of God says is true, that doesn’t mean we are anti-gay. It means that we love people enough to warn them."
The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission will host an event in July "in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s upcoming ruling on same-sex marriage ... Event speakers will seek to equip Christians and churches to be faithful in engaging the culture with the gospel in a post-marriage society."
Franklin Graham is outraged by the news that the character Iceman will come out as gay in a new issue of “X-men” issue. The Religious Right leader took to his Facebook page today to lament that Marvel is using Iceman in an attempt “to indoctrinate our young people to accept this destructive lifestyle.”
