Religious Right Sees Opportunity In Supreme Court Prayer Ruling

Religious Right groups are celebrating yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling upholding sectarian prayer at official public meetings – like city council sessions – and narrowly defining what would amount to unconstitutional religious coercion of people attending. The case is Town of Greece v. Galloway.

Though divided on their reasoning, the Court’s five conservative Justices upheld a practice in which, month after month, year after year, town leaders reached out to Christians and Christians only to offer opening prayers at town meetings, prayers that were often quite sectarian in nature.  The very few exceptions were in response to this lawsuit.  Although town leaders said that members of other religions could lead the opening prayer if they asked to, they had hardly let that be widely known, and they continued to reach out only to Christians.

SCOTUSblog’s Lyle Denniston characterized the Court’s ruling as “[s]topping just short of abandoning a historic barrier to religion in government activity.” Conservative and religious groups hostile to church-state separation are gushing over the ruling and hope it is a sign of more to come.

The Becket Fund signaled that it hopes yesterday’s decision will just be the first step in further dismantling rulings upholding church-state separation.  From Deputy General Counsel Eric Rassbach:

“The Court’s landmark decision today echoes the wisdom of the Founders. Not only did the Court uphold the centuries-old practice of legislative prayer, it also started the work of bringing the entire law of church and state onto a firmer foundation in the words of the Constitution.”

David Corman, senior counsel for the Alliance Defending Freedom, which represented the Town of Greece:

“Opening public meetings with prayer is a cherished freedom that the authors of the Constitution themselves practiced,” he said. “Speech censors should have no power to silence volunteers who pray for their communities just as the Founders did.”

The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer celebrated the ruling as a “monster win” and said it was proof that “we are fighting a winnable war,” because the “Supreme Court has ruled that you can have sectarian prayers, prayers in the name of Jesus Christ, to open any legislative session, any lawmaking body – a county commission can do it, a city council can do it, a state government can do it.”

Fischer he went on at great length endorsing Justice Clarence Thomas’s position that the First Amendment does not limit states’ constitutional right to, for example, declare the Southern Baptist Church to be the official state church and force people to support the church with taxes.  Fischer, in fact, called Thomas “a stud on the issue of religious liberty.” (Fischer says he wouldn’t personally support coercive state establishment, but he supports Thomas’s constitutional analysis, and says it should be applied to interpret that the federal government has no right to tell public schools whether and how prayer is permitted.)  Fischer is delighted that the Supreme Court’s majority decision discussed the fact that the Continental Congress opened with “emphatically Christian” prayer.

Gordon Klingenschmitt:

Hallelujah!  Today YOU helped score a VICTORY at the U.S. Supreme Court, reaching the pinnacle of seven years of work and prayer with The Pray In Jesus Name Project.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that it's OK for pastors to pray "in Jesus' name" at city council meetings.

Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins:

"The court today has upheld our first and most fundamental freedom. The court has rejected the idea that as citizens we must check our faith at the entrance to the public square. We applaud the majority on the court for getting that right. This is an historic victory for all Americans of faith and for the common-sense reading of the Constitution itself. The Court's affirmation of the right of Americans to practice their faith in public life and the public square is a major win for the religious liberty we have always cherished.”

Ralph Reed of the Faith and Freedom Coalition called it a victory that would empower Religious Right activists to push elected officials to bring sectarian prayer into more official settings:

Reed also announced that, armed with today’s Supreme Court decision, Faith & Freedom Coalition would redouble its efforts to encourage opportunities for prayers offered at meetings by town boards, city councils, and county commissions nationwide.  The organization has in the past mobilized public support for local officials who have allowed such prayers at government meetings.

“Speech honoring God and invoking His blessing on our land should be welcomed, not treated with hostility,” said Reed.  “With today’s decision, the government officials that faith-based voters help to elect can provide a forum for such expressions without fear of being reversed by future courts.”

Concerned Women for America celebrated, saying the decision “lifts up the best in our country.” CWA President Penny Nance managed to slam what she said has been “a push to establish atheism as the official religion of our land” and claim that the Supreme Court’s ruling was a win for everyone, “even the staunchest atheists.”

Those who object to these practices do not seek to exercise their religious liberty; they merely feel hostile towards other people’s religious practices and seek to silence them. They seek to silence those with whom they disagree….

The Founders of this great nation benefited and relied heavily on prayer to seek the guidance they needed to establish the foundations of our nation. When the first Congress met on September 7, 1774, it began with an amazing prayer “in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior.” No religious oppression or favoritism followed from that practice, only the blessings of freedom and liberty, including the freedom of religious thought, belief, or even non-belief.

Everyone wins, including the staunchest atheists, when we allow the free exercise of religion or non-religion according to a person’s conscience.

Fox News pundit Todd Starnes, who specializes in promoting fictitious threats to religious freedom, declared that “the Obama administration has been waging a war against people of the Christian faith,” somehow neglecting to mention that the Obama administration had actually weighed in on the side of the Town of Greece and its overwhelmingly Christian prayers.  Starnes said it is “always a good day when the anti-Christian folks get smacked down by the Supreme Court” but said the fact that it was a 5-4 decision should be a “wake-up call” for Americans that elections matter.

Gary Bauer made the same point:

Here's the good news: The Supreme Court today upheld public prayers, even Christian prayers, at government meetings in 5-to-4 decision.

But that is the bad news too! The free exercise of religion depends on just one vote….

Now a win is a win. But don't miss the fact that this victory for religious liberty was won by the narrowest of margins. One more liberal appointment and the Supreme Court could easily ban prayers before town council meetings and legislative sessions. If that were to happen, our Pledge of Allegiance and the national motto would surely be next.

Your vote at the ballot box has a direct impact on our federal courts. Federal judges, including those on the Supreme Court, are appointed (by the president) and confirmed (by the Senate) by the men and women we elect to public office.

Gordon Klingenschmitt Says Supporting ENDA Is 'Blasphemy' And 'Full Perversion'

Gordon Klingenschmitt, the right-wing pastor and exorcist turned Colorado GOP politician, has denounced a Republican congressman from his state who recently endorsed the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).

In an email on Sunday to members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project, Klingenschmitt accused Rep. Mike Coffman of embracing “full perversion” and committing “blasphemy” after the congressman said ENDA is a “workplace equivalent of the Golden Rule — do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”

Klingenschmitt added that ENDA will “expose” women and girls “to naked men” and demanded that House members “filibuster this bad ENDA bill,” even though the filibuster does not exist in the House.

He quotes Jesus. Did you catch that? Coffman quotes Jesus' golden rule, love your neighbor, as a reason to punish and persecute Christian employers and force them to share women's bathrooms with cross-dressing men. He thinks Jesus would command us to do that. Are you kidding me? That's blasphemy.

Obama has now gone to full perversion as a matter of policy. When violating the privacy rights of all women and little girls, exposing them to naked men with mental disorders who pretend and deceive themselves, he now requires we believe their deception with them.

For-profit business owners have NO religious exemptions, which will force Christians to choose: either quit your business or hire gays who may directly oppose the mission of your corporation. Owners of Bible publishers, Christian bookstores, Chick-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby will no longer be permitted to operate a business that honors God and fulfills their owner's mission to promote godliness in the marketplace.

Let's petition all 435 Congressmen to OPPOSE and FILIBUSTER this bad ENDA bill.

This Edition Of Paranoia-Rama Is Just A Distraction From Benghazi

RWW’s Paranoia-Rama takes a look at five of the week’s most absurd conspiracy theories from the Right.

In a desperate attempt to distract from the GOP’s sad and dishonest effort to turn the 2012 Benghazi attack into a political sideshow, we have decided to post Paranoia-Rama today, as we always do on Fridays.

5. Obamacare Death Lists

It’s no wonder that Glenn Beck wants to recruit Rep. Louie Gohmert to run for the U.S. Senate, as the Texas GOP congressman recently warned that health care reform will lead to death lists.

While appearing on The Blaze, Beck’s TV network, Gohmert said that in order to preserve Obamacare, the Obama administration will have to “put people on lists” where they will “die waiting to get the treatment and care.”

“This is where socialized medicine always goes,” he lamented.

Back in March, Gohmert similarly claimed that as a result of Obamacare, “we [will] see the morality rate start coming down, you die earlier, not because it’s an actual death panel but because you don’t get the treatment.”

4. Sharia Law In The Military

Yesterday, more than a year after he absurdly claimed that the Obama administration has issued a “litmus test for leadership in the military” based on whether prospective leaders “will fire on U.S. citizens or not,” activist Garrow “revealed” another dubious Obama military litmus test: whether service members “support” the “islamic [sic] ideology.”

The "new" Litmus Test of all senior officials of the Federal Government and their agencies.

As many will remember (except those who support Obama) I broke the news on January 20th of 2013 that senior members of the military were being asked a "litmus test" question to determine if they would be allowed to continue in their positions. That question determined if their loyalties lay with Obama.
Well it is now almost a year and a half later and I am now assured by many that the new criteria for senior leadership is their attitude towards and support of muslims [sic] and the islamic [sic] ideology.

Your Christian nation is now fully at the service of islam [sic] and its hateful ideology. The treason is complete and utter in its depth and breadth. Mark this date, May 1, 2014, the day that America was warned that the muslim-marxist [sic] in the White House Barack Hussein Obama is remaking the public service and government agencies into Sharia compliant entities as the next step in the subjugation of America to islam [sic].

- Dr. Jim Garrow -

please share this everywhere - the warning must be given - we are betrayed

3. Donald Sterling Scandal Meant To Distract From Benghazi

Since GOP activists failed in their truly bizarre campaign to link LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling to the Democratic Party (it turns out he is a registered Republican), they have now moved on to attempting to link the controversy over Sterling’s racist remarks to Benghazi.

Fox News contributor and former GOP congressman Allen West denounced the media’s coverage of the Sterling scandal as an attempt to cover up President Obama’s “incessant lies, deceit and abject failures,” particularly about the Benghazi attack.

Media Matters reports that West cited Sterling’s racist remarks in a Fox News Radio interview to call for greater public uproar over Benghazi: “The outrage of the public seems to be totally focused on Mr. Sterling but, you know, you've got this thing with Benghazi and we have an even bigger lie, an even bigger deceit, which is even more impactful on the country that no one is really caring about.”

2. Mass Grave For Cliven Bundy Militia

After suggesting that the military rise up against Obama in response to the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, Gordon Klingenschmitt is now warning that the government may begin digging a mass grave as it purportedly prepares to murder Cliven Bundy and his allied militiamen.

“Mass graves dug by the government, this time for the cattle, but next time, maybe for the cowboys, right?” he asked. “I suspect that in some months to come, there's going to be some secret mission by the feds to go in there and punish the people who are standing for freedom.”

1. Bundy Psy-ops

The Oath Keepers, an extremist right-wing group, is attempting to distance itself from a rumor it started that the Obama administration was imminently launching a drone strike against Bundy’s ranch.

The founder of Oath Keepers, Stewart Rhodes, reportedly claimed that “Eric Holder approved a hot drone strike on the Bundy ranch within 48 hours.”

But a new Oath Keepers memo blames President Obama for the Oath Keepers’ own baseless claim, insisting that the drone rumor was actually an Obama “psy-ops” mission to discredit and undermine the Oath Keepers’ presence at Bundy’s ranch. The group says they were merely “indicating that a drone attack was at least ‘possible.’”

“Oath Keepers is tremendously happy that nothing happened and that this was a bad tip, a piece of ‘dis-info’, a ‘psy-op,’” a group spokesman said. “A typical FBI psy-op would plant ‘leaders’ in every militia they could infiltrate. What those sorts of FBI agents or surrogates do is always ‘handled.’”

Thanks for clarifying!

Of course the Bunkerland was filled with plenty of other crazy rants, including one by militia leader Mike Vanderboegh who warned of a “civil war” to protect the Bundy ranch (and also threatened to have Harry Reid’s “balls ripped off”).

Klingenschmitt: Transgender Teacher Is A 'Pervert' Who Trying To Recruit Kids 'Into Sexual Perversion'

Last month, a transgender teacher in Texas was removed from the classroom after parents complained and, predictably, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt fully supports the move because there is no reason to allow "transgendered perverts to stand in front of children and recruit them into sexual perversion."

While addressing the issue on his "Pray In Jesus Name" program, Klingenschmitt said there was "a demonic spirit inside of this man who is lying to you ... there's a spirit of lying when a man claims to be a woman and he's not a woman" before praying on behalf of the parents who rose up to "defend their children's right to not be violated by this pervert":

Klingenschmitt Speculates The Government Will Kill Bundy Ranch Protesters And Bury Them In A Mass Grave

Responding to right-wing reports that the Bureau of Land Management had killed several cattle and buried them in a mass grave during the standoff with Cliven Bundy, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt suggested on his "Pray In Jesus Name" show that the government was going to return to the Bundy ranch in the coming months, kill all the protesters, and dump their bodies in a similar mass grave.

"Mass graves dug by the government, this time for the cattle,"  Klingenschmitt said, "but next time, maybe for the cowboys, right?"

Klingenschmitt praised the armed, anti-government protesters and urged his viewers to go out to Nevada and join "the freedom movement" because "I suspect that in some months to come, there's going to be some secret mission by the feds to go in there and punish the people who are standing for freedom."

Klingenschmitt Can't Quite Bring Himself To Call For Obama's Overthrow

On Friday's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt responded to a report that, in 2010, President Obama had told the heads of the five military branches that they should resign if they could not support the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell by seemingly almost calling for the military to overthrow Obama before apparently thinking better of it.

Saying that if he had been put in that situation, he would have resigned rather than "homosexualize the military," Klingenschmitt blasted the service chiefs "for compromising and submitting to [Obama's] tyranny."

"One of these days, the military ought to just rise up ...," Klingenschmitt said before suddenly pausing in the middle of the sentence. After thinking about what he was saying for a moment, Klingenschmitt seemed to realize where he was heading and decided to change direction, dismissively waving his hand and simply saying  "well, who knows what they ought to do":

Klingenschmitt: World Vision Board Member Who Resigned Is 'Full Of The Devil'

Following World Vision's backtracking from its decision to allow legally married gay couples to work for the organization last month, World Vision board member Jacquelline Fuller resigned, saying that she "disagreed with the decision to exclude gay employees who marry."

For "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt, this is cause for celebration because Fuller was "so full of the devil that she doesn't want to care for poor people anymore unless she can homosexualize them at the same time."

"That's a demonic spirit," Klingenschmitt said, "and we're going to call her out on that":

Klingenschmitt: ENDA Will Force Women To Share Bathrooms With Men Who 'May Not Be Sitting Down When He Goes Pee'

Two weeks ago, the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from a New Mexico photography studio that had refused to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony but, for some reason, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt was still praying that the Court would agree to hear the case on the Friday broadcast of his "Pray In Jesus Name" program.

During his discussion of the case, Klingenschmitt complained that non-discrimination laws actually result in discrimination against Christians and that somehow resulted in him railing about ENDA yet again as he warned that the law, if passed, would force women to have to share the bathroom with "cross-dressing men ... who may or may not be sitting down when he goes pee":

Gordon Klingenschmitt Warns 'Obama Has Now Gone To Full Perversion As A Matter Of Policy'

Gordon Klingenschmitt, the GOP politician and gay exorcist who believes that the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is a demonic plot to make Christians “starve to death” and “participate in sodomy,” yesterday pointed to 2011 OPM guidelines on transgender personnel as proof that “Obama has now gone to full perversion as a matter of policy.”

In an email to members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project, Klingenschmitt said that job protections for transgender employees will “violate the privacy rights of all women and little girls, exposing them to naked men with mental disorders.”

“Worse yet, if Nancy Pelosi's ENDA becomes law, all Christian business-owners nationwide will be punished if they refuse to open ladies’ restrooms to cross-dressing men,” he added.

The Obama Administration has opened womens [sic] restrooms to cross-dressing men.

President "Obama's Office of Personnel Management has published what it calls 'Guidance Regarding the Employment of Transgender Individuals in the Workplace.' This document speaks of 'sex' as something a person has 'assigned' to them only after they make it through the birth canal," reports TownHall.com. …

Obama has now gone to full perversion as a matter of policy. When violating the privacy rights of all women and little girls, exposing them to naked men with mental disorders who pretend and deceive themselves, he now requires we believe their deception with them.

Worse yet, if Nancy Pelosi's ENDA becomes law, all Christian business-owners nationwide will be punished if they refuse to open ladies' restrooms to cross-dressing men.

Friends, their version of tolerance now requires bankrupting Christian employers, or any public restaurant or retail store that refuses men full access to women's bathrooms. We must take action to stop ENDA from becoming law.

On the Day of Silence, Check Out PFAW’s New Safe Schools Policy Toolkit

Today is the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network’s Day of Silence, an event meant to bring attention to the “silencing effect” of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools. In classrooms across the country, thousands of young people will stay silent throughout the day as part of an annual student-led effort that has been occurring since 1996.

In anticipation of the Day of Silence, People For the American Way recently released a new policy toolkit, Education Without Discrimination: Creating Safe Schools for All Students, which provides activists with the tools they need to advocate for critical safe schools reforms. The toolkit includes lobbying and media tips, talking points, sample materials, and background info on the lead federal legislation, the Safe Schools Improvement Act (SSIA) and Student Non-Discrimination Act (SNDA).

Unfortunately the Religious Right continues to rail against commonsense legislation like SSIA and SNDA that would help make our schools safe for all students. Right-wing activist Gordon Klingenschmitt has warned that the Student Non-Discrimination Act would “give homosexuals and perverts protected status” and “mandate pro-homosexual recruiting of kids in public schools.” Just this week, Mission America’s Linda Harvey – who once claimed that anti-bullying programs would turn schools into “indoctrination camps” – publicly encouraged young LGBT people to stay in the closet.

To learn more about how to stand up to these hateful attacks and push for positive change, check out the safe schools toolkit.

The Five Worst Religious Right Claims About Safe Schools Initiatives

In honor of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network’s Day of Silence today – an annual event meant to draw attention to the “silencing effects” of anti-gay harassment and name-calling in schools – Right Wing Watch is re-releasing a collection of some of the most troubling recent claims from the Religious Right about safe schools initiatives.

Relying on harmful myths depicting LGBT people as abusive and “perverse,” it is clear from these examples that the Religious Right is far more interested in pushing homophobic lies than in protecting and supporting all students through commonsense legislation. Our elected leaders face a stark choice between protecting students and siding with the dangerous and hateful lies of the far right.

5. Gordon Klingenschmitt: Al Franken is 'Causing More Suicides' by Backing Anti-Bullying Bill (January 2012)

Previously, Gordon Klingenschmitt accused Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) of “homosexualizing kids” and acting like late North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il over his efforts to pass legislation geared at preventing bullying because Franken and other progressives have “deified sin as their god.” Now, Klingenschmitt is accusing Franken of “causing more suicides” for sponsoring the anti-bullying bill. “Teen suicide is tragic enough without Senator Franken recruiting more kids into homosexuality, which causes depression, self-hatred, self-rejection and self-murder,” Klingenschmitt writes, “Franken's plan will result in more teen suicides, not less.”

4. Linda Harvey Warns That Anti-Bullying Programs Will Turn Schools Into ‘Indoctrination Camps’ (November 2011)

Linda Harvey of Mission America urged voters to oppose the Safe Schools Improvement Act and the Student Non-Discrimination Act, warning that such anti-bullying legislation was “using bullying prevention as a tool to force approval of homosexuality and gender bending on children, teachers and families.” On her radio show, Harvey urged members of her Ohio-based group to contact Senators Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman to oppose what she called the “promotion of these lifestyles to kids brought into schools in the Trojan Horse of anti-bullying programs.” She went on to say that schools will be turned “into indoctrination camps” in order “to fulfill the fondest wishes of those who want traditional morality to disappear” if the safe school legislation passes.

3. Public Advocate: Congress Using Schools ‘To Force The Homosexual Agenda’ On Children (April 2011)

Religious Right groups consistently try to tarnish anti-bullying initiatives by labeling them as “homosexual indoctrination” and “special rights,” among other absurd claims. A Religious Right group called Public Advocate and led by Virginia politician Eugene Delgaudio launched the “Protect Our Children’s Innocence” petition to protest the Student Non-Discrimination Act, which it labeled the “Homosexual Classrooms Act.”

2. Gordon Klingenschmitt Says ‘Sick and Perverse’ Student Non-Discrimination Act Will Legalize ‘Sexual Assault’ (April 2012)

After President Obama announced his support for the Student Non-Discrimination Act, Gordon Klingenschmitt went back on the attack against the anti-bullying bill, warning in an email message that the “sick and perverse” legislation will “give homosexuals and perverts protected status,” “mandate pro-homosexual recruiting of kids in public schools,” promote “child abuse” as “homosexuals will have full control of classrooms” and even allow for harassment and “sexual assault.”

1. Sandy Rios: Schools No Longer Teach Reading and Writing, Now Just Promote Homosexuality (April 2013)

The American Family Association’s Sandy Rios hosted Linda Harvey of Mission America to criticize the Day of Silence, the anti-bullying event which Harvey has previously described as dangerous and blasphemous.

Rios, who once said that test scores are dropping as a result of schools “teaching” homosexuality, kicked off the program by arguing that public schools no longer instruct students in subjects like “reading, writing, cursive, spelling, grammar [and] punctuation,” but are instead completely dedicated to “cramming, twisting, perverting all academic subjects to the way of supporting homosexuality.”

Gordon Klingenschmitt Reveals That Life Actually Begins Before Conception

On his "Pray In Jesus Name" program today, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt quizzed his viewers on when life begins.

Does it begin, he asked, when a heartbeat can be detected? Or perhaps somewhere around 22-24 weeks when a fetus is able to survive outside of the womb? Or maybe it begins at the moment of conception?

But it was a trick question, Klingenschmitt revealed, and all of those answers were wrong because life actually begins before conception "in the mind and heart of God":

Klingenschmitt: 'How Dare President Obama Order Christians To Kill Children?'

Gordon Klingenschmitt is responding to the Hobby Lobby case at the Supreme Court by warning that President Obama is forcing Christians to kill children as part of “a spiritual war to save or destroy unborn babies and the elderly.”

“How dare President Obama order Christians to kill children? How dare any Justice consider ordering Christians to kill children?” the pastor asks in his weekend email to members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project, apparently referring to the contraceptive drugs at issue in Hobby Lobby, which are not actually abortifacients.

Klingenschmitt quotes from the Affordable Care Act to claim that the Obama administration is allowing “welfare-moms [to] kill their children.” But his email omits the passage from the law that directly precedes the excerpted quote: “Abortions for which public funding is prohibited,” which outlines that the Affordable Care Act preserves the current federal ban on abortion known as the Hyde Amendment.

As Rep. Ron Kind explains: “The Hyde Amendment specifically is not included in the bill though the language included in the bill accomplishes what the Hyde Amendment seeks to do - preventing federal funding for abortions except in the instances of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act maintains current law regarding federal funding for abortion services.”

How dare President Obama order Christians to kill children? How dare any Justice consider ordering Christians to kill children? It's bad enough they kill children on their own without our help. But now they demand we pay for it too?

Democrats initiated a phony compromise with President Obama who signed a toothless Executive Order (which conflicts with the law, and is unenforceable in court) to give them top-cover to claim they're not funding abortion, when the law they all passed specifically stated on page 117:

"(ii) ABORTIONS FOR WHICH PUBLIC FUNDING IS ALLOWED.—The services described in this clause are abortions for which the expenditure of Federal funds appropriated for the Department of Health and Human Services is permitted, based on the law as in effect as of the date that is 6 months before the beginning of the plan year involved." [That's a direct quote from the law they passed.]

In other words, Democrats lied when they claimed to prevent public tax-payer funding of abortion, and mandated private funding of abortion (as if that should be allowed either). And Planned Parenthood clearly lied in their analysis of the law, when they claimed "forcing individuals to write two separate checks (both of which are out of private funds) and requiring health plans to administer two different payments of private funds is not necessary to insure public funds are not used for abortion care." No public funds? Really?

They lied, plain and simple, because the law quoted above now reads ABORTIONS FOR WHICH PUBLIC FUNDING IS ALLOWED through the Department of Health and Human Services, subsidizing child-killing of innocents with your tax-dollars, so welfare-moms can kill their child for a $12 co-pay, while Planned Parenthood gets rich charging YOU thousands of tax dollars against your will. No wonder both Stupak and Nelson were labeled traitors by every credible pro-life group in America.

Friends, our nation stands in the midst of a spiritual war to save or destroy unborn babies and the elderly. You and I stand in this battle together. We must stand strong!

Gordon Klingenschmitt Says Gay Couples Raising Children Is Child Abuse

Last month, two women were arrested on charges of child abuse after a bruised and malnourished 8 year-old girl was in the couple's home, along with two other children.

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt discussed the case to argue that even if gay couples who have children do not physically abuse them, they are still abusing their kids by depriving them of either a mother or a father.

"Even if a child is not physically abused," Klingenschmitt asked, "what's the next worst thing you can do to a child?  Is to take away their mother."

"In the case of homosexual couples who get 'married,' so to speak," he continued, "and then they adopt children, even if they never physically harm those children, they are taking away that child's right to a mother, or maybe they're taking away that child's right to a father. And that, in my opinion, is also abusive":

Gordon Klingenschmitt Poised To Clinch GOP Nomination In Colorado Race

Last year, extremist pastor Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt announced that he was running for a seat in the Colorado state legislature and his campaign took a step forward last weekend when he dominated a Colorado GOP caucus, where he received over seventy percent of the vote. Unfortunately for Chaps, he doesn't have the GOP nomination sewn up quite yet, as he still may face a primary opponent:

Gordon Klingenschmitt won the favor of the delegates with 71 percent of the vote, preventing two other candidates nominated from hitting the 30 percent threshold. But unlike county-wide races, it only takes 1,000 signatures to get on the ballot.

Candidate Dave Williams however, turned down his nomination saying he already has 1,000 signatures and will petition onto the ballot. A primary appears likely in that race.

The district is heavily Republican and currently represented by the GOP House Leader.

As ColoradoPols.com reports, Williams also has a long history of making extremist statements and promoting discrimination.

Klingenschmitt has made anti-LGBT activism the cornerstone of his political life. Here are just a few of his shocking statements:

Bill Federer Worries Atheists Will Kill Millions Of Christians If They Can Take Over The Military

Bill Federer, a lesser-known Religious Right "historian" in the vein of David Barton, was the guest on Gordon Klingenschmitt's "Pray In Jesus Name" program today where he and "Dr. Chaps" discussed their concerns about what will happen to Christians in America if atheists take over the military.

"We ask ourselves," Federer said, "will the people that are pushing [an anti-Christian agenda], once they get in charge of the guns, do we really expect them to be more tolerant than they are now? Or, will they be tempted to use their new powers to force their agenda?"

Federer went on to declare that recent history shows that leaders like Stalin, Pol Pot, and Mao had no hesitation about using their "atheistic military" to kill tens of millions of their own people.

"So we see that terrible things can happen when you get a military that no longer has a belief that every person is sacred because they're made in the image of God," Federer added, "it just becomes a tool to push an agenda. And so this is a concern a lot of people have."

Klingenschmitt: 'Child Molesting' Is 'A Favorite Recruiting Tool Of Adult Homosexuals'

This week, Gordon Klingenschmitt sent out yet another insane anti-gay email to members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project criticizing Sen. Al Franken’s Student Non-Discrimination Act, or what Klingenschmitt calls the “Homosexual Classroorms [sic] Act.”

After alleging that “one half of all adult homosexuals report having once been victims of sexual abuse before age 13,” Klingenschmitt writes that gay people see child molestation as “a favorite ‘recruiting’ tool of adult homosexuals. They violate children, and when the victim is later confused, they lie and say ‘you were born that way.’”

Minors are not mentally mature enough to consent to sex with adults, which makes it statutory rape. Did you know the average age of first sexual experience for heterosexuals is 17, but for homosexuals it is 12? One half of all adult homosexuals report having once been victims of sexual abuse before age 13.

Child molesting is therefore a favorite "recruiting" tool of adult homosexuals. They violate children, and when the victim is later confused, they lie and say 'you were born that way.'

This summer Franken snuck his pro-bullying legislation which threatens to defund any public school that fails to promote homosexuality (bullying Christian kids to reject their parents' religious beliefs), by inserting the language from his failed "Homosexual Classroorms [sic] Act" (aka Student Non-Discrimination) into Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA)'s Elementary and Secondary Education Act (formerly known as No Child Left Behind).

The result is Al Franken's "No Child Left Unmolested" amendment, which mandates a pro-homosexual federal curricula for all public schools, and defunds any school that resists. He deceptively campaigns it will stop bullying, but actually it bullies your Christian kids and teachers, removing power from parents and school boards, by threatening to withhold funds, if they refuse to teach kids that sin is normal.

Klingenschmitt: 'It's A Tragedy Every Time Somebody Comes Out Of The Closet'

On today's "Pray In Jesus Name" program, "Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt interviewed Michel Brown about a variety of issues, including the announcement by NFL prospect Michael Sam that he is gay.

Brown said that Sam was being selfish by coming out because he was putting himself ahead of the good of any team that drafts him by forcing the team to have to deal with his sexuality. Brown went on to lament that our culture has reached a point where it celebrates "when a man says that I am attracted to other men," at which point Klingenschmitt joined in to declare that "it's a tragedy every time somebody comes out of the closet."

"It's not something we should be celebrating," Klingenschmitt said:

Barber: 'Pretty Soon Christians Are Going To Have To Start Wearing A Yellow Cross'

"Dr. Chaps" Gordon Klingenschmitt recently interviewed Matt Barber during the National Religious Broadcasters Convention, where the two discussed the legal discrimination bill that was vetoed by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.

As Barber explained, such laws are necessary because gay activists are intent on forcing Christians to participate in sinful activity and adopt a "post-modern, pagan view of human sexuality" or else risk being run out of business or thrown into jail.

"You know, pretty soon," Barber warned, "Christians are going to have to start wearing a yellow cross. Are we in 1939 Germany here"?

Likening modern-day American Christians to Jews under the Nazi regime seems to be Barber's favorite comparison at the moment.
