Mission America’s Linda Harvey is horrified about the growth of LGBT youth centers, saying in her radio commentary yesterday that older gay people are setting up centers so they can begin “preying on children” and recruit them into homosexuality.
In a radio bulletin last week, Mission America’s Linda Harvey defended a Pennsylvania bridal shop and a New York wedding venue that denied service to same-sex couples, arguing that the businesses have been swept up in a “totally unnecessary, homosexually-instigated controversy.”
“This is all part of the strong-armed bullying of those who are determined to force everyone in America to serve the interests of homosexuals,” she said, pointing to “an intensive effort to retaliate against the [bridal] shop with homosexual supporters posting unfavorable and surely mostly dishonest reviews” online.
“You thought you lived in the USA of 2014, not Germany in 1936, right?” she added.
Mission America’s Linda Harvey explained the real meaning of Labor Day which, of course, is about workers resisting “homosexual lobby” activists who want to “force public respect for their deviance.”
During her radio bulletin yesterday, Harvey defended business owners who deny service to gays and lesbians, saying that they are victims of “spiteful bullying.”
“Our country is in trouble, friends, because of these radicals who want to revolutionize our moral standards,” she said. “How far will extremists go to push us into sexual anarchy? Let’s pledge to start this Fall to do what we can — lawfully of course — to stand up for our principles. This evil does not ultimately win, we know, but we can make sure it doesn’t even win in the here and now.”
On her “Mission America” radio program yesterday, Linda Harvey weighed in on the National Organization for Marriage’s boycott of Target in response to the company’s filing of a court brief in support of marriage equality.
Harvey echoed NOM in taking particular issue with Target’s characterization of same-sex marriage bans as “bans” and “discrimination.”
“Have you noticed how this is how headlines often read these days?” Harvey said. “They talk about laws on natural marriage as being ‘bans’ on same-sex so-called marriage. And that’s incorrect because people who are male can still marry people who are female. The only obstacle for a few people is the presence of unnatural desires. Those desires can change with a different mind and heart.”
Later in the broadcast, Harvey read from a response she received from Target, in which the company expressed support for the “LGBT community.”
“So where’s the inclusivity for traditional values families? Target also thinks there’s an LGBT community, but what about a Christian morals community? Do they get the fact that most people have had it up to here with pushing deviance and perversion into everyone’s lives in America? That most Americans don’t accept the idea of two men or two women being married when they are obviously not?”
Mission America's Linda Harvey was a guest on the AFA's "Today's Issues" broadcast this morning where the discussion turned to her concerns about the growing acceptance of the idea that people can be Christian and gay, as demonstrated by the recent announcement from British singer Vickey Beeching.
"I shudder for them," Harvey said whenever she reads about Christians who identify as gay as well as "ex-gay" Christians who renounce "ex-gay" therapy.
"We have to stop giving homosexuality special sin status," she warned, as if "that struggle is somehow different than the sin struggles of a lot of people for a lot of things and ultimately we come down on the side of what does God what me to do."
Too many people, Harvey said, are starting to believe that "homosexuality is fine" and, in doing so, they are "basically thumbing your nose in the face of God and that is not a good position to be in":
This weekend, Linda Harvey welcomed to her radio show Molly Smith, the Cleveland anti-choice activist who’s heading up a new national splinter group that thinks that the major anti-choice groups aren’t extreme enough. One of the issues that separates Smith from the major anti-choice groups is her insistence on linking anti-gay and anti-choice activism, a divide that came to a head when she was rebuked by National Right to Life Committee for attacking anti-choice advocate Sen. Rob Portman when he came out in favor of marriage equality.
Smith and Harvey discussed the Gay Games, which took place over the weekend in Cleveland and which Smith contended were “not gay” but in fact “very melancholy” because they featured participants in a “sad and destructive lifestyle.”
Later in the interview, Smith lashed out at the Cuyahoga County GOP for officially welcoming the Gay Games, saying that opposition to LGBT rights must always be paired with anti-choice activism because homosexuality is an “anti-family lifestyle.”
Mission America’s Linda Harvey appeared on “Understanding the Times with Jan Markell” over the weekend, where she warned that LGBT rights are pushing the world into the End Times.
After discussing the purported dangers that same-sex marriage presents to children, Harvey said that “we’re heading into the End Times, and it sure looks like we may be, or the end of America—or both.”
Harvey also called on cities to ban LGBT pride parades: “We need to go to our city councils and stop these parades. I think they are a blight on the community, they communicate exactly the wrong message: that homosexuality and gender change is totally fine, that it’s a big joke, because there are men dressed in feather boas, lipstick and heels in these parades, this is such a raw message to our children especially. My opinion is gay pride parades ought to be banned and we have every reason to do so, there is no redeeming social value, that’s my belief.”
She also criticized anti-gay leaders for not standing up more aggressively to LGBT-affirming Episcopalian and United Church of Christ pastors, arguing that they need to rebuff “vicious” LGBT rights advocates.
“Pastors are going to have to realize this has a huge impact on America, on our culture and on children,” she said.
“Everything we pass regarding acceptance and embrace of homosexuality or same-sex marriage, it’s not just some little population over there, it is being mandated in our schools and now in our courts and now in our workplaces that you have to embrace this and not just embrace this, you have to honor it or else we’re going to punish you.”
On the weekend edition of Linda Harvey’s “Mission: America” radio program, ex-gay activist David Kyle Foster phoned in to discuss his documentary, “Such Were Some of You,” a wide-eyed account of the temptations of the “homosexual lifestyle” and the great lengths people have undertaken to renounce their homosexuality.
Foster warned that young people are especially vulnerable because “Satan is in their little minds, planting all sorts of doubts and fears,” adding that messages of LGBT acceptance in school curriculum prey on children from a young age.
Discussing the manipulation he is convinced drives the so-called gay agenda, he exclaimed, “All these gay activists are teaching [children] in elementary schools and junior high schools that gay sex is wonderful, and here’s how you do it; here’s how you do the most perverse thing done by gay people, right in our schools. It’s child abuse as far as I’m concerned.”
Linda Harvey is not happy that an Ohio Republican group is welcoming attendees to this year’s Gay Games, the event for LGBT athletes that is taking place in Cleveland and Akron.
The Ohio-based activist, who hopes to ban LGBT Pride Parades, denounced both the Gay Games and the Cuyahoga County Republicans today on her “Mission America” radio commentary: “Why do we need events like this which give legitimacy to a deviant and harmful lifestyle? The purpose of the Gay Games may well be to try to create a different impression and disguise the truth, which is that homosexuality is associated with much higher health risks and it is not life-honoring and life-giving behavior but the opposite.”
“God never intended, as we are told in scripture, for humans to pair up with the same-sex and it is shameful that leaders in the Republican Party are endorsing such immorality.”
Mission America’s Linda Harvey called on listeners today to pray against the supposed “assault on morality” by marriage equality proponents in the courts.
“No matter what happens, God is not mocked and same-sex unions will never actually be marriage, but it remains vitally important that such unions not become legal,” she said, warning that gay rights advocates don’t want to “let people live their own values.”
She also promoted a new campaign from the Ohio-based group Citizens for Community Values, which is asking members to pray against a marriage equality lawsuit in the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals.
• PRAY that by God’s grace, marriages in the church would be strengthened. PRAY for your marriage and those of your friends and family and pray for marriages in the Church. PRAY that we would, as the body of Christ, be ministers of reconciliation, healing, and growth to those that are hurting. PRAY that our marriages would reflect Christ’s relationship with His church and that our marriages would be a testimony to others of His grace and would glorify God.
• PRAY for discernment and sound reasoning for the three judges (Martha Craig Daughtrey, Jeffrey S. Sutton, and Deborah L. Cook) hearing these cases that they might understand the importance and meaning of marriage and be able to see through the arguments for and the implications of redefining marriage.
• PRAY or clarity of thought and persuasive speech for the attorneys defending marriage in order that the arguments against marriage will be refuted, confused thinking will be exposed, and that all the judges’ doubts regarding marriage be removed.
• PRAY for those engaged in all manner of sexual sin that God will deliver them from their sexual bondage and restore purity.
• PRAY for ministers of God’s Word that they would proclaim God’s truth regarding sexuality and marriage with clarity, boldness and grace.
• PRAY for those who are counseling individuals and couples struggling with marital difficulties that they would give Biblical counsel in order that healing and reconciliation would take place.
• PRAY for young couples that are considering marriage or who have just married that they will take seriously their vows made to God and will call on Him whenever they face challenges to their relationship.
Speaking on her “Mission: America” radio program last week, anti-LGBT activist Linda Harvey decried the supposed erosion of the religious liberties of conservative Christians as American culture increasingly bends to the whims of the supposedly tyrannical gay agenda.
Attempting to expose the injustice she sees everywhere in society, Harvey dedicated two shows to lamenting the forever-persecuted state of conservative Christians in America.
She first expressed outrage at the plight of a Colorado baker refused to serve gay customers, concluding that in America today “immorality is a worthy and noble civil right but Christian is shameful, even evil.”
In Harvey’s logic, advances in LGBT equality are the result of “the popular myth of a massive homosexual population [that] had evidently been growing for years.” Citing a recent federal survey saying that less than three percent of America’s population identifies as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, Harvey blamed growing tolerance in part on LGBT-accepting books available in public schools, which attempt to “normalize sinful behavior.” Rather than capitulate to the equality movement, however, “we need to keep repeating the reality that relatively few people enter and remain in these lifestyles.”
Joe Biden has been receiving some flak from Religious Right activists for daring to speak out in defense of LGBT rights abroad, actions that Mission America’s Linda Harvey said today make the vice president “sound like a representative of a dictatorship.”
“Vice President Biden is starting to sound like a representative of a dictatorship, one that is determined to roll over other countries regardless of the consequences,” Harvey said on her daily radio bulletin.
“Defending deviance is not a noble position and he is deeply deceived to believe that it is ‘inhumane’ to object to these behaviors. But the current administration is really ramping up its efforts to promote this immorality and the White House went out of its ways to issue many different proclamations to bolster so-called LGBT advocates during the recent June homosexual pride month.”
She also lamented that the U.S. government is “punishing Uganda for its tough new law on homosexuality” and “believes the spin of the homosexual movement over the past twenty years that homosexuals and cross-dresses are suffering violent attacks.”
On her radio show today, Mission America head Linda Harvey lamented the presence of military service members and Boy Scouts in LGBT pride parades.
The anti-LGBT activist called openly gay service members and scouts an “insult” to their peers, bad role models and most likely child predators.
Is anyone who insists on open homosexual behavior in our military the kind of soldier we need? I don’t think so. And here’s the basic issue: no one needs to be doing this behavior in the first place. It’s an insult to fellow soldiers, and in a Boy Scout situation, it’s an insult to the boys. And yes, open that door and there will be a flood of those interested in having sexual contact with young males. It’s the reality that has existed since the beginning of human history, some people insist on this sin and they insist on it with children. It’s the really selfish adults or clueless ones who would expose kids to danger like this. Friends, if you have a son or daughter in the Scouts, remove them as soon as possible. They’re already hearing about this and learning misinformation. This lifestyle is not how anyone is born and it is certainly not gay.
Matt Barber warned Saturday that gay people have “swarm[ed] in like a horde of locusts” and “homosexualized the Boy Scouts.”
Barber was speaking with Mission America’s Linda Harvey, who told him that she had been outraged at the sight of Boy Scouts at the Columbus, Ohio, LGBT pride parade. Barber replied that he wasn’t surprised, since “the homosexual activist agenda” is “at the forefront of child corruption, that is a major part of their agenda.”
“It is absolutely reprehensible that they are exposing these children to this perversion, to this highly sexually charged, open acts of public displays of nudity, it is just absolutely appalling,” Barber said.
“It is simply disgusting to watch, it’s appalling to watch. They take every institution, they take things that are noble and good and they swarm in like a horde of locusts and they don’t care what damage is done because it helps further their agenda, then they fly away and what’s left is a husk of what was there to begin with.”
RWW’s Paranoia-Rama takes a look at five of the week’s most absurd conspiracy theories from the Right.
In honor of LGBT Pride Month, we have dedicated this week’s edition to looking at five of the most bizarre anti-LGBT stories coming from the Right Wing just in the past week.
5. Rick Santorum Fears Gay ‘Reeducation Camps’
Religious Right activists continue to stoke fears about gay rights supporters organizing an anti-Christian holocaust, and Rick Santorum is happy to help. The former senator and presidential candidate, out with a new film about the purported loss of religious freedom in America, warned this week that Christians in the U.S. are being sent off to “reeducation camps” and face jail and martyrdom. Santorum was speaking to none other than Bryan Fischer, the American Family Association radio host who believes gay people are to blame for the Holocaust and are modern-day Nazis.
4. Gay Gulags
If you thought Santorum’s remarks were a rare occurrence in the Religious Right, just read today’s commentary from BarbWire senior editor Jeff Allen, who warns that the “gaystapo” wants its opponents “summarily shipped off on the ‘highway’ to the ‘gay’ gulag of sensitivity training — actually, reeducation camp to receive a government-provided, pro-perversity lobotomy.”
He warns about “alarming homosexual efforts at shredding the dictionary, distorting of the Constitution, creating false rights out of thin air, rewriting civil laws to criminalize deeply held moral convictions, hijacking science to promote a deviant political/social agenda, and eliminating all religious and conscience protections for business owners,” adding that “every advance of the militant ‘gay agenda’ comes at the literal expense of true democracy and freedom.”
“Many of the vindictive items on homosexual agenda are designed exactly as vengeance against their supposed oppressors,” Allen writes. “Unlike the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s in which African Americans united and fought against the truly heinous injustices of racial inequality and unprovoked acts of violence, the homosexual rights movement has no intentions of being peaceful. Nobody should fool themselves, this is a hostile takeover of America.”
3. Gays Want To Molest Their Kids
Those of you who haven’t been shipped off to a gay FEMA camp yet may want to consider this brilliant analysis by Mission America’s Linda Harvey, who this week alleged that gay parents are much more likely than others to sexually abuse their children because “when you are open to sinful, God-defying behavior in one profound way, violating other boundaries happens more easily.”
2. More GOP Rebranding
Speaking out in opposition to amendment to prohibit charter schools from discriminating in hiring on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity, North Carolina House Speaker Pro Tem Paul ‘Skip’ Stam compared gay people to pedophiles and “distributed a flier titled ‘What Is A “Sexual Orientation”?’ that compares being lesbian or gay to mental disorders such as apotemnophilia (sexual arousal associated with an amputee’s stump) and coprophilia (sexual arousal associated with feces).”
The handout reportedly originated from the far-right Traditional Values Coalition. Catherine Thompson of TPM notes that “Stam did not mention that the information in his handout, which dated back to 2000, had been updated in the APA manual to classify those attractions as ‘disorders’ rather than ‘orientations,’ according to the news station.”
Local Religious Right activists quickly rushed to Stam’s defense after word of the flier got out.
This isn’t the first time Stam has tried to pull off this sort of stunt: he made similar claims while denouncing the School Violence Protect Act.
1. HIV/AIDS Cure At Pride
The latest religious group to claim to be able to cure HIV comes out of Minnesota, where an evangelical coalition is insisting that they will cure people of HIV at the upcoming Twin Cities Pride.
Andy Birkey of The Column reports that the group’s leader, Steven Uggen, believes God told him that he has the “healing power” to cure people of HIV, although most will not be grateful:
One of the words we got out of this outreach, the Lord really wanted to demonstrate his goodness to this community by releasing healing of HIV and AIDS, so we believe we’re going to see people healed of HIV and AIDS and we’re just, we’re carrying that word of the Lord into this outreach. And that will be part of our training just praying with boldness for the releasing of healing power and then sending them back to their doctors literally after praying for them. ‘Here’s what I want you to do: go to your doctor, get tested for HIV or AIDS and when you come back negative, you’ve got a decision to make whether you’re gonna serve the God who just healed you’ and then give them some gospel materials that they can take with them and encourage them to call on us and let us know and I’m confident that we’re going to have people healed of HIV and AIDS that are going to be contacting us. The funny thing is Jesus healed the 10 lepers and only one came back to acknowledge him so there may be 10 that get healed but only one come back, you know. This is a strategy that God wants to use so the very fruit of their sin is what he wants to, like, take away to show them his kindness and his goodness. I mean it’s just totally Jesus. I mean it’s like totally his way so we’re excited about that.
The Human Rights Campaign released a report today to mark the first anniversary of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s signing of his infamous ban on “gay propaganda” and related anti-LGBT legislation. HRC reports “an uptick in violent attacks on LGBT people” since the bills’ passage that has accompanied a spike in “anti-LGBT sentiment” in the public square.
Yet despite the dangerous consequences of the increasing use of LGBT people as scapegoats — both in Russia and in neighboring Eastern European and Central Asian countries — and the place of anti-gay politics in Putin’s expansionist agenda, many on the American Religious Right continue to celebrate Putin’s crackdown on gay rights and even to hail it as a model for the United States.
The issue has been divisive on the Right. For instance, Accuracy in Media’s Cliff Kincaid — hardly a fan of gay people — got into a memorable shouting match earlier this year with World Congress of Families representatives, who he accused of cozying up to Putin.
It has also put some groups in tough positions. The World Congress of Families was forced to suspend its planned conference at the Kremlin, which was to be funded by a handful of people close to Putin, after Russia seized Crimea and groups including Concerned Women for America started backing out.
But we continue to hear right-wing activists heaping praise on Putin for his enthusiastic anti-gay politics and increasing embrace of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Just last week, Phyllis Schlafly praised Putin for “warming up to religious freedom” as “Americans are rejecting it”:
And earlier this week, WorldNetDaily announced that people around the world are “fleeing” to Russia to escape homosexuality in their own countries .
Anti-gay activists including Pat Buchanan,Peter LaBarbera,Franklin Graham,Scott Lively,Keith Davies,Linda Harvey,Randall Terry,Gordon Klingenschmitt,Janice Shaw Crouse, Austin Ruse, Bob Vander Plaats , Rick Scarborough and, of course, the WorldCongress of Families have defended Russia’s anti-gay crackdown or called for similar laws in the U.S.
And, of course, some have directly lent their support to the passage of anti-gay laws in Russia: the World Congress of Families has an active network in Russia and Eastern Europe and just days before Putin signed the propaganda ban recruited the National Organization for Marriage’s Brian Brown to warn Russian lawmakers about the risks of gay rights.
The support for laws that have dangerously scapegoated LGBT people in Russia is especially ironic coming from a movement that claims that the gay rights movement in the United States is persecuting them .
The same crowd of Religious Right activists who cry “homo-fascism!” any time gay rights supporters criticize a business that supports anti-gay discrimination, is now organizing a campaign against Macy’s over the department store chain’s support for LGBT pride events.
In an interview published in BarbWire today, Phil Burress of Citizens for Community Values spoke with Linda Harvey, the head of Mission America, about why customers should be upset with Macy’s.
A coalition of pro- family and Christian groups is launching a campaign to inform American families about the unfortunate role of Macy’s, Inc. Department Stores and affiliates in supporting “gay pride” parades in cities throughout the nation.
Many people have no idea how radical these parades are,” said Phil Burress, president of Citizens for Community Values of Cincinnati. “The events and activities of a typical ‘pride’ week-end are decadent and highly-sexualized, deliberately so. They are a disgrace to communities, and certainly shouldn’t be financially supported by a retailer like Macy’s that claims to serve families.”
Throughout the summer months and “gay pride” season, Macy’s is making a different choice: to support the degradation of communities through events that are an insult to American families.
“This is nothing to be proud of,” Burress said, “and Macy’s should know better. Their customers certainly do.”
The American Family Association also denounced “the contemptible role of Macy’s department stores in supporting ‘gay pride’ throughout the nation,” arguing that [the] the chain’s actions “are a disgrace to communities.”
The group is encouraging members to write to Macy’s to protest the company’s support for a “very dangerous” and “destructive lifestyle.”
Dear Chairman Lundgren:
I am disappointed to learn that Macy's chooses to celebrate the sin of homosexuality.
Your company has taken a brazen approach toward the sanctity of family and marriage, and this offends the moral conscience of America.
Count my family as one who urges Macy's to reconsider the impact its decisions and promotions have on people. Homosexuality is very dangerous and unhealthy, and only leads to a destructive lifestyle.
Mission America’s Linda Harvey is committed to “helping” families shield their children from gay people, even going so far as to say that parents should refuse to allow openly gay doctors or nurses to care for their kids.
In her radio bulletin today, Harvey offered yet another commentary about the how gay people will likely molest kids, including their own children, because “when you are open to sinful, God-defying behavior in one profound way, violating other boundaries happens more easily.”
We have to consider at all times the effect of homosexual activism on children and the open and proud homosexual adult is a terrible influence on children. Yes we must keep trying to witness to such people but we’re at the point where protection from their harmful influence is at least as important. Homosexual adults are harmful role models as they promote sinful behavior while calling it something to be proud of.
It’s not just the openly homosexual teacher, but kids raised in a homosexual home have this influence in triple intensity and intimacy. These adults are living a big lie and kids know this in their hearts. Even if their intentions are good, their framework is seriously wrong. And yes there are adults who molest children. It’s not every adult in this lifestyle, of course, but it certainly seems acceptable to some. Where are the built-in protections? Homosexual groups are busy dismantling them in schools and in public places with parents seen as obstacles. Why? When you are open to sinful, God-defying behavior in one profound way, violating other boundaries happens more easily.
Anti-gay activists Gina Miller and Linda Harvey got together this weekend on Mission America’s radio show to discuss ways to “overcome” the “unspeakable,” “lewd” and “insidious” LGBT pride events taking place this month, which Harvey believes should be banned.
Miller lamented that “it’s an awful thing we’re seeing with these parades, it’s Sodom of the West here in America today.”
Miller later warned that the demonic “left-wing powers of the air” are “flooding” the country with LGBT propaganda that wouldn’t survive “in a normal and sane society.” She added: “We’re talking about the rights of homosexuals, the fake rights, these are bogus rights versus the real rights of Christians and others who oppose it. They cannot coexist, they are mutually exclusive.”
“This is objective truth, this isn’t somebody’s opinion, this is objectively evil,” Harvey said of the LGBT rights movement.
“No society should be upholding this nonsense, and of course they’re promoting this to our kids.”
Harvey and Miller also criticized the family of transgender boy Ryland Whittington, accusing his parents of “child abuse” and “insanity.”
“The kids are the most important people here and they are in the crosshairs of this movement because as you know homosexuals cannot reproduce, they have to recruit,” Miller said. Harvey agreed, arguing that same-sex marriage will warp the minds of children and make them “wildly confused.”
Miller capped off the interview with one last rant: “It’s evil, it’s purely evil and it’s time for people to stand up and call it like it is, there is nothing good and right about this, it’s immoral, it’s unhealthy, it’s unnatural, it always will be. Same-sex marriage does affect everybody and in a bad way, in every level it’s wrong and as you said, with the kids, we’re looking at a dark future if we don’t push back at this movement.”
“In a future dark in ways we cannot predict, it’s a time bomb, it really is,” Harvey added.
