Santorum & Huckabee Join Anti-Gay Extremists In Vowing To Resist Marriage Equality Ruling

Likely GOP presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee have joined more than 200 anti-gay activists in signing a pledge vowing to resist any Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality.

The pledge, which was co-written by Mat Staver of the right-wing legal group Liberty Counsel and Deacon Keith Fournier, a Catholic activist who recently argued that marriage equality is quite literally an attack of the Devil, recycles the language of a similar document circulated by right-wing groups when the Supreme Court took up a previous set of marriage cases in 2013. Staver and a number of other activists introduced the current pledge at a press conference this morning.

Along with Huckabee and Santorum, signers include former House GOP leader Tom Delay; big players in the Religious Right including John Hagee, Samuel Rodriguez and Focus on the Family’s James Dobson; and fringe anti-gay activists including Peter LaBarbera, Matt Barber, Cindy JacobsLinda Harvey and Bradlee Dean.

Comparing any sweeping decision in favor of marriage equality to the Dred Scott case, the activists vow that they will not recognize such a decision and indicate that they would try to convince national and state executive branches not to enforce it.

The full text of the pledge:

We stand together in defense of marriage and the family and society founded upon them. While we come from a variety of communities and hold differing faith perspectives, we are united in our common affirmation of marriage.

On the matter of marriage, we stand in solidarity. We affirm that marriage and family have been inscribed by the Divine Architect into the order of Creation. Marriage is ontologically between one man and one woman, ordered toward the union of the spouses, open to children and formative of family. Family is the first vital cell of society, the first government, and the first mediating institution of our social order. The future of a free and healthy society passes through marriage and the family.

Marriage as existing solely between one man and one woman precedes civil government. Though affirmed, fulfilled, and elevated by faith, the truth that marriage can exist only between one man and one woman is not based on religion or revelation alone, but on the Natural Law, written on the human heart and discernible through the exercise of reason. It is part of the natural created order. The Natural Law is what Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., referred to as a higher law or a just law in his famous Letter from Birmingham Jail.

Marriage is the preeminent and the most fundamental of all human social institutions. Civil institutions do not create marriage nor can they manufacture a right to marry for those who are incapable of marriage. Society begins with marriage and the family.

We pledge to stand together to defend marriage for what it is, a bond between one man and one woman, intended for life, and open to the gift of children.

The institutions of civil government should defend marriage and not seek to undermine it. Government has long regulated marriage for the true common good. Examples, such as the age of consent, demonstrate such a proper regulation to ensure the free and voluntary basis of the marriage bond. Redefining the very institution of marriage is improper and outside the authority of the State. No civil institution, including the United States Supreme Court or any court, has authority to redefine marriage.

As citizens united together, we will not stand by while the destruction of the institution of marriage unfolds in this nation we love. The effort to redefine marriage threatens the essential foundation of the family.

Experience and history have shown us that if the government redefines marriage to grant a legal equivalency to same-sex couples, that same government will then enforce such an action with the police power of the State. This will bring about an inevitable collision with religious freedom and conscience rights. The precedent established will leave no room for any limitation on what can constitute such a redefined notion of marriage or human sexuality. We cannot and will not allow this to occur on our watch. Religious freedom is the first freedom in the American experiment for good reason.

Conferring a moral and legal equivalency to any relationship other than marriage between a man and a woman, by legislative or judicial fiat, sends the message that children do not need a mother and a father. As a policy matter, such unions convey the message that moms and dads are completely irrelevant to the well-being of children. Such a policy statement is unconscionable and destructive. Authorizing the legal equivalency of marriage to same-sex couples undermines the fundamental rights of children and threatens their security, stability, and future.

Neither the United States Supreme Court nor any court has authority to redefine marriage and thereby weaken both the family and society. Unlike the Legislative Branch that has the power of the purse and the Executive Branch which has the figurative power of the sword, the Judicial Branch has neither. It must depend upon the Executive Branch for the enforcement of its decisions.

As the Supreme Court acknowledged in the 1992 decision of Planned Parenthood v. Casey, its power rests solely upon the legitimacy of its decisions in the eyes of the people. If the decisions of the Court are not based on the Constitution and reason, and especially if they are contrary to the natural created order, then the people will lose confidence in the Court as an objective arbiter of the law. If the people lose respect for the Court, the Court’s authority will be diminished.

The Supreme Court was wrong when it denied Dred Scott his rights and said, “blacks are inferior human beings.” And the Court was wrong when Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes wrote in Buck v. Bell, “three generations of imbeciles are enough,” thus upholding Virginia’s eugenics law that permitted forced sterilization. Shamefully, that decision was cited during the Nuremburg trials to support the Nazi eugenic holocaust.

In these earlier cases, the definition of “human” was at issue. Now the definition of “marriage” is at issue. The Constitution does not grant a right to redefine marriage — which is nonsensical since marriage intrinsically involves a man and a woman. Nor does the Constitution prohibit states from affirming the natural created order of male and female joined together in marriage.

We will view any decision by the Supreme Court or any court the same way history views the Dred Scott and Buck v. Bell decisions. Our highest respect for the rule of law requires that we not respect an unjust law that directly conflicts with higher law. A decision purporting to redefine marriage flies in the face of the Constitution and is contrary to the natural created order. As people of faith we pledge obedience to our Creator when the State directly conflicts with higher law. We respectfully warn the Supreme Court not to cross this line.

We stand united together in defense of marriage. Make no mistake about our resolve. While there are many things we can endure, redefining marriage is so fundamental to the natural order and the common good that this is the line we must draw and one we cannot and will not cross.

Linda Harvey: Satan Tricking Supreme Court Into Backing Gay Marriage

On her daily “Mission America” radio bulletin today, Linda Harvey asked listeners to pray that the Supreme Court will rule against marriage equality advocates and that the justices will “not be swayed by the schemes of Satan to deceive, divide and destroy.”

But if Satan does get his way, Harvey said, people should be prepared to resist the “unconstitutional, unlawful decision” and protect the children who will be affected by the resulting “damage” of the ruling.

Harvey prayed that the Supreme Court marriage cases would ensure that the “eyes of America will open to the ungodliness of homosexuality and sexual sins of all kinds and we will turn from the elements in or culture that are driving this.”

Linda Harvey: Gay Marriage Is A 'Scheme Of Satan'

Last week on her “Mission America” radio show, Linda Harvey said that conservatives should pray daily that the Supreme Court will rule against marriage equality advocates, thus stopping Satan in his tracks.

“This is really a very simple and obvious issue,” Harvey said. “Two men or two women can never be married unless the very idea of marriage itself becomes so distorted as to become meaningless. So pray that those who have common sense and a grasp of morality will be faithful and not be swayed by the schemes of Satan to deceive, divide and destroy.”

However, if the Supreme Court rules for marriage equality, she said, then “lives will be damaged, just as they are being now by the exaltation of sexual sin in our nation and especially in the lives of children.”

Conservatives must pray, Harvey said, “that the eyes of America will open to the ungodliness of homosexuality and sexual sin of all kinds and we would turn from the elements in our culture that are driving this.”

  • FRC is launching 21 days of prayer, starting tomorrow and continuing until the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on marriage equality: "FRC President Tony Perkins is asking believers everywhere to pray and fast from April 7th till April 28th that God will intervene to guide our Supreme Court to protect, not destroy, natural marriage as the legal standard for our nation. "
  • Linda Harvey says that America is finally waking up to the fact that gay rights activists are "bullies": "I think it remains true that God is not mocked. And He is surely revealing the truth for all to see, and most in America will not succumb to tyranny and depravity."
  • A pseudonymous "Jane Christian" has written an open letter to companies that support marriage equality, begging them "to make our workplace truly unified by abandoning identity politics, ceasing your support of sodomy, and advancing virtue instead of vice."

Linda Harvey: Anti-Bullying Efforts Misguided Since LGBT People Don't Exist

This weekend, Mission America’s Linda Harvey hosted Laurie Higgins of the Illinois Family Institute to discuss the Religious Right campaign to have parents keep their children home from school in protest of the Day of Silence, an annual nationwide demonstration against anti-LGBT bullying.

Higgins said that the Day of Silence was really focused on promoting a political agenda rather than protecting LGBT children, labeling anyone who disagrees as “haters.”

Harvey agreed, repeating her claim that LGBT people don’t actually exist: “It goes on and on with the strong-arming, emotional and mental strong-arming, by implying that there are such – again – lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. This is not an inborn lifestyle, there is no evidence of homosexuality — or being transgendered [sic], that you were ever born in the wrong sex body.”

Mat Staver: Second American Revolution Needed To Stop Gay Marriage

In a radio interview this weekend, Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver called on states to defy a Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality if it goes “the wrong way.”

“What we could have is the Supreme Court issuing its decision on marriage the wrong way, and Alabama saying, ‘Goodbye, get out of my state, that’s not what’s going to happen to my state,’” Staver told anti-LGBT pundit Linda Harvey, adding that he hopes Texas will also flout such a decision.

The Religious Right legal activist went on to insist that California’s Proposition 8, the gay marriage ban that was struck down by the federal courts, “still is applicable” in most of the state. “They have no legal authority to issue those same-sex marriage licenses,” he claimed.

Staver said that people should prepare to commit civil disobedience if same-sex marriage becomes legal, pointing to the example of a North Carolina magistrate who is refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples and offering an extremely twisted account of a controversy involving Catholic Charities in Massachusetts.

“Go back to the days of Martin Luther King Jr., go back to the days of the American Revolution,” Staver said. “I think it’s that serious.”

  • Erik Rush is not happy that President Obama was at the Selma anniversary event: "Obama profaned the anniversary of the 'Bloody Sunday' march in Selma with his very presence, because he is a liar and a fraud who has actually harmed race relations in America and under whom the lot of black Americans has become substantially worse."
  • Linda Harvey doesn't care what happens in terms of gay rights because "the Lord Jesus Christ has framed the parameters of our faith and no wicked deceit the lavender lobby devises will every change that."
  • Finally, Jerry Newcombe says that the Supreme Court should not rule in favor of marriage equality because "sexual anarchy leads to legal anarchy."

Anti-Gay Activists Urge Parents To Keep Kids Home On Anti-Bullying 'Day Of Silence'

A coalition of anti-gay groups is once again urging parents to keep their children out of school on the annual anti-bullying “Day of Silence.” The Illinois Family Institute published the call to action on its website today, signed by activists including Matt Barber, Concerned Women for America’s Penny Nance, Americans For Truth About Homosexuality’s Peter LaBarbera, Scott Lively, Linda Harvey, Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver, and MassResistance’s Brian Camenker.

Calling the GLSEN-sponsored event “the queen of all the numerous homosexuality-affirming activities that take place in public schools,” the activists allege that it is meant to “indoctrinate 16-year-olds.”

“We must demonstrate the boldness and perseverance of the Left if we hope to stop the relentless appropriation of public education for the promotion of homosexuality,” they exhort.

The Day of Silence has long been a target of anti-gay group’ efforts to crack down on anti-bullying efforts in schools.

The Day of Silence is the queen of all the numerous homosexuality-affirming activities that take place in public schools. It started in one university and then like a cancer metastasized to thousands of high schools, and then into middle schools. Before long it will take place in elementary schools. Leftists know that it’s easier to indoctrinate 16-year-olds than 36-year-olds and easier still to indoctrinate 6-year-olds.

GLSEN promotes the Day of Silence as an “anti-bullying” effort. If it were solely about eradicating bullying, everyone—liberals and conservatives alike—would support it. But it’s not.

The Day of Silence exploits government schools, captive audiences, and anti-bullying sentiment to advance the Left’s social, moral, and political beliefs and goals. GLSEN seeks to advance the belief that all public expressions of moral disapproval of homosexual activity are bullying.

A coalition of pro-family organizations is once again urging parents to keep their children home from school on the Day of Silence if their school administrations will be allowing students to politicize instructional time by refusing to speak. This is the only organized national effort to oppose any pro-homosexual activity or event in public schools.

The absence of conservative influence within the culture on issues related to homosexuality is to some extent the fault of conservatives. Ignorance, fear, and an astounding lack of perseverance on the parts of conservatives have turned our cultural institutions—including public education—into the playground of “progressives.” Our passivity has enabled homosexual activists and their ideological allies to become social, political, and pedagogical bullies. Evidence of that is everywhere, including in schools on the GLSEN’s annual April school event, the Day of Silence.

We must demonstrate the boldness and perseverance of the Left if we hope to stop the relentless appropriation of public education for the promotion of homosexuality.

Beware Lesbian Abortion Cookies! The Worst Conservative Attacks On the Girl Scouts

While Girl Scouts across the country spent this past weekend selling and distributing Girl Scout cookies, many right-wing activists will not be joining the rest of us in enjoying Thin Mints and Samoas.

For the past several years, conservative groups have urged their members not to touch the cookies, warning that doing so will support communism, abortion and homosexual indoctrination. The Girl Scouts’ right-wing detractors commonly cite the discredited myth that the group is funding Planned Parenthood, and the even stranger that it is turning children into lesbian, socialist activists.

Here are the three wildest claims that right-wing activists make about the girls’ empowerment organization:

1) Girl Scouts Push ‘Lesbianism’ On Children!

The Girl Scouts’ strong stance against discrimination has put the organization in the far right’s crosshairs, with anti-LGBT activists claiming that the Girl Scouts’ acceptance of lesbian and bisexual members really means that they are somehow pushing “lesbianism” on children.

Back in 2013, Mission America’s Linda Harvey accused the Scouts of teaching “homosexual lifestyles” to girls, along with “an attitude of suspicion toward males in general.” One right-wing columnist, Jane Chastain of WorldNetDaily, alleged last year that the Scouts not only promote legal “prostitution,” but send children home from camp telling “stories of lesbianism.”

Perhaps no one captures this particular paranoia better than Religious Right radio host Kevin Swanson, who once literally begged his listeners to not purchase Girl Scout cookies.

“I don’t want to support lesbianism, I don’t want to support Planned Parenthood and I don’t want to support abortion, and if that be the case I’m not buying Girl Scout cookies,” Swanson said on his “Generations Radio” program in 2013. “Please, I beg of you, do not buy Girl Scout cookies. Please, I beg of you, stop buying Girl Scout cookies. And if you do, take a big black magic marker and cross out all of the references to Girl Scouts of America on all of the signs and all of the boxes because we do not want to promote that organization.”

Swanson added that Girl Scouts will eventually become voters who will put “a communist in the White House in the year 2020.”

2) Girl Scouts Promote Abortion And ‘Promoscuity’!

Conservatives were incensed when Girl Scouts of the USA tweeted out a Huffington Post article on notable women of 2013, asking Twitter followers who they thought was the ‘woman of the year.’ The article mentioned people like Malala Yousafzai and Beyoncé, but also included a lengthy video chat during which Texas lawmaker Wendy Davis and her famous filibuster against an anti-abortion bill were mentioned. While the Scouts didn’t endorse anyone in the post, conservatives seized on the tweet to resurrect the myth that Girl Scout cookie sales fund Planned Parenthood.

One Family Research Council official, Cathy Ruse, said in 2012 that the “radicals” leading the Girl Scouts seek to “promote abortion” and “push for same-sex marriage,” alleging that Scout leaders believe that “abortion and sex-ed and promiscuity for very young girls is a good thing.”

FRC president Tony Perkins warned on the same 2012 radio program that the people behind the Scouts’ “liberal indoctrination” efforts are “not having kids so they want to make sure they can get our kids.” He said that by encouraging “promiscuity,” future Scouts will need to go to Planned Parenthood clinics: “[I]t makes sense for Planned Parenthood to want to be teamed up with the Girl Scouts because that’s a client base for them if they can get this information into their hands to encourage promiscuity and behavior that would lead them into Planned Parenthood clinics.”

The even group went so far as to target the Girl Scouts in a prayer alert.

Fox News pundit Todd Starnes has also called on his fans to boycott the cookie drives, saying last year that cookie-buyers should seek out more “wholesome alternatives” since “Girl Scout money was helping to fund Planned Parenthood.” American Family Association president Tim Wildmon also called for a cookie boycott last year, saying that “buying Girl Scout cookies serves only to further facilitate a very liberal pro-abortion agenda.”

Dan Gainor of the conservative Media Research Center was boycotting Girl Scout cookies as early as 2012, boasting that his entire office had sworn off the cookies since they were “destroying young women in America.”

3) Girl Scouts Commit ‘Child Abuse’ By Accepting Transgender Girls!

The far-right lit into the Girl Scouts in 2012 after one troop in Colorado decided to accept a 7-year-old transgender girl, citing its chapter’s policy that “if a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.”

Perkins urged FRC members to boycott the Scouts since they “decided to admit boys who dress as girls” and Ruse said that the organization’s inclusive policy amounted to child abuse: “You’ve got a cross-dresser in the front office, you’ve got little boys admitted as little girls and those poor little girls in those troops have to pretend this is a girl? That’s child abuse in some people’s estimation.”

Right Wing Bonus Tracks - 2/19/15

  • After repeated losses, Liberty Counsel has now taken its lawsuit against New Jersey's ban on ex-gay "reparative" therapy to the Supreme Court.
  • It looks like the right-wing attacks on anti-tax zealot Grover Norquist for allegedly being a secret Islamist might actually threaten his re-election to the board of the NRA.
  • Linda Harvey is terrified of what gay marriage will bring: "It should break the heart of any freedom loving, God-honoring American to say this, but there is no evidence that America has the moral will to prevent the following 'gay-stapo' dreams from being fulfilled shortly after."
  • FRC prays that God will finally "awaken your people in America to stand in the gap with extraordinary prayer and to demand that our elected representatives act to defeat ISIS and hold President accountable to defend all Americans, including Christians and Jews who have been uniquely targeted by ISIS."
  • Finally, Gary Cass declares that Christians should take comfort in the fact that the Prophet Muhammad "is eternally dead in Hell and suffering the just penalty for his sin."

Linda Harvey: This Valentine's Day, Fight Against LGBT Rights

Mission America’s Linda Harvey is urging conservatives to use Valentine’s Day to “promote true love,” which, as she explains in a WorldNetDaily column today, means opposing LGBT rights. She urges readers to mark the holiday by demanding that companies drop their support for LGBT equality and posting “an online comment challenging notions of homosexuality as ‘marriage’ or anti-Christian bigotry.”

“Don’t be afraid to say, ‘Not true!’ when some maintain that sodomy and abortion are the high ground, as is same-sex ‘marriage,’ that children should be encouraged to change genders, that Americans are all racists and that Christianity is hateful,” she writes.

Harvey also tells readers to oppose “vicious feminists” and schools that teach “anti-American, pro-Marxist lessons.”

The leftists love Valentine’s Day. This year, they will exhibit a bizarre preoccupation with the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey,” as America’s notion of “love” is stretched to unrecognizable limits.

But as Christians, we think of love in a different sense. It’s one that “does not rejoice in inquity, but rejoices in the truth.” (1 Corinthians 13:6)

So what can Christians do in 2015 to promote true love?

Despite some disturbing, jaw-dropping events of the past year, and some daunting ones in the coming months, we really aren’t at the mercy of cowardly Republicans, destructive Democrats, vicious feminists and homosexual bullies.

While designers of wickedness present great challenges to American culture, to freedom and to the rule of law, let’s never forget that those who hate godliness are in self-destruction mode.

While we pray for any individuals who can be pulled out of the coming fire, let’s lovingly assist the unworthy causes they espouse toward a sure demise.

The loony left does not represent America, and their ideas are mostly poison. Let me make it clear: I am not advocating civil unrest or violence here (like liberals sometimes do), but in the public square of reasonable debate over public policy, don’t let unhinged voices get away with calculated deception, obfuscation and other evil nonsense. Expose mythology for what it is.

Don’t be afraid to say, “Not true!” when some maintain that sodomy and abortion are the high ground, as is same-sex “marriage,” that children should be encouraged to change genders, that Americans are all racists and that Christianity is hateful. Get ready to say NO and shine the light of reality back at them.

So, how do we do this? Start with fervent and persistent prayer. Then, commit to at least one “push back” activity each week. Make one phone call to a corporate supporter of “LGBT” deviance, or send one email to a pro-abortion politician. Make an online comment challenging notions of homosexuality as “marriage” or anti-Christian bigotry. Be sure to call your child’s school and object to anti-American, pro-Marxist lessons.

Here’s a good place to start: the erroneously named “Corporate Equality Index” of the Human Rights Campaign. This pedophile-founded, multi-million dollar homosexual lobbying group is a pretender to high-minded notions of “equality” and “non-discrimination.” HRC is a vicious bully with an empire built on attacking personal sexual integrity, undermining authentic families, promoting deviance and mischaracterizing Christians.

So consult this listing of businesses that have signed on to HRC’s “gay” agenda, and make a call to one each week. Just ask: “Why is your company supporting the harmful homosexual agenda? Why are you donating to advance same sex ‘marriage’? No one needs to be homosexual, and no one is born in the wrong sex body. It’s a mistake for your company, wrong for your employees and for America.”

Linda Harvey: Katy Perry's 'Firework' Promotes Satanism, Super Bowl Halftime Show Pushed 'Homosexual Agenda'

It seems that Linda Harvey of the anti-LGBT group Mission America was not a fan of the Super Bowl Halftime Show, writing in BarbWire yesterday that Katy Perry’s song “Dark Horse” may be an “invitation to demonic possession.”

She also criticized “I Kissed A Girl,” unsurprisingly, by claiming that the song (not to mention Perry's “suggestive twerking with Lenny Kravitz”) is promoting the “homosexual agenda.”

“Just like her flirtation with Satan, she’s merely joining and providing theme music for a movement that long pre-dates her,” Harvey wrote.

But according to Harvey, these two songs aren’t the most troubling aspect of Perry's performance. The Religious Right activist thinks that Perry’s “Firework” may actually be a tool to trick people into following Satan rather than God, proving once again that Perry has “become a glamorous huckster of destruction to her millions of followers.”

“While ‘Firework’ seems encouraging taken at face value (and the song is musically very appealing), in the context of Perry’s other messages simply comes off as ultimately godless and pointless,” Harvey wrote. “So it’s still all up to me and only me? No help from the any spiritual source? Just one, perhaps– the one Jesus calls a liar and a thief.”

The halftime performance of Katy Perry at the 2015 Super Bowl seemed to be all about choice. While the show was a spectacle on a grand scale, the content was shady. Perry held out foolish choices with eternal consequences on an altar of defiance.

And this isn’t the first time she’s shown a preference for jaw-dropping rebellion. Many will recall her Grammy performance from 2014 where she pole-danced on a witch’s broom as the backdrop to her song “Dark Horse,” with lyrics selling sex and “magic” from which there will be “no going back.”

The Super Bowl gig was just a variance on the same theme with Perry astride a giant robot tiger. “Dark Horse” is a tune not about love or even a hot hook-up. It seems to be [sic] invitation to demonic possession, and the halftime theatrics recalled the Apostle Peter’s caution: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8).” And sure enough, Perry and the red-eyed beast roared in defiant power. What kind of power, hmmm, do we think she’s offering?

Sexual confusion is a natural companion to spiritual apostasy. Perry proceeded to bend over in some suggestive twerking with Lenny Kravitz and then sang another hit, telling us that she “kissed a girl and liked it.” The lyrics go on to say, “I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it.”

This 2008 song is a prime expose of the lies embedded in the homosexual agenda. Not that Perry leads that effort. Just like her flirtation with Satan, she’s merely joining and providing theme music for a movement that long pre-dates her.

There would be a predictable reaction if a well-known homosexual man crooned that he had “kissed a boy and liked it” and he “hopes his boyfriend don’t mind it.” If such a song even saw the light of day, it would be instantly labeled bigotry, hate and right-wing extremism. After all, one is never allowed to experiment in that direction. Satan and his mouthpieces will make sure such a notion never gains traction.

It’s tragic that a former Christian has left the faith she allegedly once knew to become a glamorous huckster of destruction to her millions of followers. Even her closing song of the evening, “Firework” suggests finding hope not in an eternal Christ before Whom every knee will bow, but in a spark that already exists inside each of us.

While “Firework” seems encouraging taken at face value (and the song is musically very appealing), in the context of Perry’s other messages simply comes off as ultimately godless and pointless. So it’s still all up to me and only me? No help from the any spiritual source?

Just one, perhaps– the one Jesus calls a liar and a thief.

Linda Harvey Marks The New Year By Railing Against Gay Rights

Mission America’s Linda Harvey decided to ring in the new year by celebrating the GOP’s midterm election victory, calling it a “hopeful sign” that Americans are ready to rise up against “cowardly Republicans, destructive Democrats, vicious feminists and homosexual bullies.”

“These folks are showing all the signs of self-destruction,” she said. “The loony left does not represent America and their ideas are mostly poison.”

After calling on conservatives to get “ready for battle,” Harvey warned that gay rights supporters are bent on harming children, claiming that “our toxic culture is stealing the innocence and dimming the futures of our offspring.”

The Right Wing Watch Christmas Gift Guide 2014 Edition

Just in case you are doing some last-minute shopping for Christmas, provided, of course, that your town hasn’t already fallen in a bloody battle in the War on Christmas, we here at Right Wing Watch are out with a new holiday gift guide focused on that special right-wing friend or relative in your life.

Hopefully your loved ones will appreciate it as much as our 2013 catalogue.

6. Big Bucket Of Dried Eggs

The perfect prepper gift, televangelist and survivalist Jim Bakker is offering a hot deal on an “Egg Bucket” for just a cool $100. Nothing gets people more excited than seeing a bucket of dried eggs underneath the Christmas tree, especially once they realize it contains a whole 29 “pouches.” Just add water!

And if you need a present for a prepper with a sweet tooth, make sure to buy Bakker’s 273-item gourmet dessert tray so the whole family can enjoy ice cream sandwiches as society collapses.

5. A Very Glenn Beck Christmas

While other families gather around to watch the yule log or a marathon of “A Christmas Story,” you can have your family watch Glenn Beck dress up as an elderly, Santa-like man after you “give the gift of TheBlaze TV” for up to 100 friends, family members “or anyone you care about” this year.

Alternatively, you can wait for Becks’ movie about a warrior Santa Claus to come to theaters.

4. Children’s End Times Book

Finally, the Pat Robertson-approved children’s book about the Last Days that your child has been waiting for! “I Won’t Take The Mark” prepares kids for the end of the world, concluding with a contract where readers pledge to never take the Mark of the Beast.

3. Obama T-Shirt Sale

Is anyone on the hunt for a barely legible conservative t-shirt? Well, you are in luck, as “The Ten Commandments According To Obama Shirt” is on sale. It was written by Obama himself (probably) about how people should worship him because “I am the chosen One and like God, I do not have a birth certificate,” and should have abortions and persecute Christians. And printing a very long list with a small font size on a white t-shirt is always a winning design idea.

2. Build Your Own Noah’s Ark

The Creation Museum is out with a new, fun way to disprove evolution and let people know that Noah really did put all those dinosaurs up on his ark: building your very own ark! Well, sort of. With their Noah’s Ark Paper Model, you can “[d]iscover the truth about Noah’s Ark by constructing your own scale model! 1. An Ex-Gay Christmas

Anti-LGBT activist Linda Harvey of “Mission America” knows that if you are still “wondering what to get your teen or college student for Christmas,” you should consider “giving them the gift of common sense and morality.” And by common sense and morality, she means her new book, “Maybe He’s Not Gay: Another View On Homosexuality,” which peddles ex-gay pseudo-science. For those who want to use Christmas to “cure” a loved one of homosexuality, Harvey boasts that her book tells gays and lesbians “why they can leave those feelings behind.” A true Christmas miracle!

Five Moments From 2014 That Definitely Were A Sign Of The End Times

What better way to criticize your political opponents than by accusing them of creating an oppressive government that will lead to the coming of the Antichrist and fulfill biblical prophecy on the Last Days?

Warning about the imminent end of the world may seem extreme, but it is a great way for media personalities, politicians and activists to rile up and instill fear in their base. Whether such arguments are purely cynical or genuine, in 2014 many conservative pundits cited the End Times to back up their denunciations of everything from gay rights to the so-called ‘War on Christmas.’

The Obama Presidency

After leaving Congress, Michele Bachmann hopes to become a major conservative voice on foreign policy issues. Among her qualifications, apparently, is her knowledge of the End Times. Bachmann has warned that the Bible prophesied the president’s foreign policy decisions, arguing that Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry are “calling for actual war and economic war against Israel, or at least suggesting it as such.”

“The nations of the world will come against Israel, and the scripture very specifically says all nations. Now for the United States, we don’t have that experience until recently under President Obama with the United States not standing with Israel,” Bachmann said in an interview with Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, adding that the Jewish community “sold out Israel” in order to “support the political priority and the political ambitions of the president.”

Pat Robertson became so concerned with Obama’s term in office that he called on “700 Club” viewers to “pray to be delivered from this president,” warning that America will face “serious decline unless something dramatic is done about it.” Televangelist Matthew Hagee feared that Obamacare would condition people to accept “the kind of global dictatorship that is described in the End Times” and take on the Mark of the Beast.

Pastor Franklin Graham suggested that God will bless Russia thanks to Vladimir Putin’s leadership while removing His favor from America as a result of administration policies that are “pushing the gay-lesbian agenda.” “Our president and his attorney general have turned their backs on God and His standards, and many in the Congress are following the administration’s lead,” Graham said.

Pastor Mark Creech, who is affiliated with the American Family Association, wrote a column for the Christian Post implying that Obama is the Antichrist who will surface “in the last days – the day before Christ's return.”

Radio host Rick Wiles dedicated an entire show with Jonathan Wright to discussing how the “Bible Code” proves Obama is the Antichrist and even offered the strongest evidence yet that Obama is either the Antichrist or his forerunner: a fly once landed on him.

Following the lead of Republican politicians who cynically turned the Ebola outbreak in West Africa into a campaign issue, only to have their incendiary rhetoric about Ebola (and Ebola-tainted urine) subside after the Fall election, many conservative pundits and pastors used Ebola to stoke fear about imminent dictatorship, divine punishment and the end of the world as we know it.

Televangelist John Hagee told viewers that the Ebola virus is God’s way of showing his anger with President Obama’s foreign policies, while his son Matthew Hagee suggested that the Bible pointed to Ebola as a sign of the End Times. Another televangelist, Jim Bakker, offered a special discount on survival food items, including desserts, in case Ebola and other calamities bring down the country.

The doomsday prophet Glenn Beck — who raised fears about Nigerian prison guards possibly spreading Ebola to Texas and suggested that Obama doesn’t mind Texans contracting Ebola since it is a conservative state — was pretty sure that the Ebola outbreak is the beginning of God’s judgment on the country and America’s imminent collapse.

Several GOP members of Congress issued claims that Obama will intentionally infect Americans with the virus, while others made completely baseless allegations that Ebola-infected immigrants are descending upon America.

WorldNetDaily, a bastion of right-wing conspiracy theories, at different times alleged that Obama wanted Ebola to spread throughout the country in order to justify his purported plans to establish gulags, lock Americans in FEMA camps and declare martial law.

Far-right radio hosts alleged that Obama wanted to “round up patriots,” ban churches and aid Ebola-infected ISIS fighters, and one Fox News personality said Obama hoped to use Ebola to make America “suffer” while helping his African brethren. One prominent right-wing radio broadcaster, Janet Parshall, said God used Ebola as a “warning” because “he is a gentleman.”

Of course, gay people were also to blame. “Trunews” host Rick Wiles said God will use Ebola to give gays and others an “attitude adjustment,” and pastor Ron Baity, who worked with the Family Research Council to champion his state’s ban on marriage equality, said homosexuality is responsible for the Ebola outbreak since it is “bringing the judgment of God on this nation.”

Gays Rights Victories

Ebola, it turns out, was just one way that gay people, along with supporters of gay rights, tried to usher in the global calamities leading up to the End Times.

Deryl Edwards of Liberty Counsel pointed to growing acceptance of gay Christians as a sign that we are “in the Last Days.” Mission America’s Linda Harvey claimed marriage equality is one reason why “we’re heading into the End Times, and it sure looks like we may be, or the end of America — or both.” Michael Bresciani of the Christian Post said God will use terrorist attacks to punish the country for accepting gay rights. Pastor Flip Benham maintained that homosexuality “destroys those who practice it and nations that approve of it.” Rick Wiles predicted that gay rights will lead to an all-out nuclear war.

Southern Baptist megachurch pastor Dwight McKissic said athlete Michael Sam’s decision to come out of the closet shows that “the spirit of Sodom would be prevalent and prominent in the end time,” since, McKissic claims, “the Anti-Christ would be a homosexual, or certainly unmarried.”

“This is the moral issue of the End Times,” pastor Scott Lively said of homosexuality, lamenting in a radio show interview that “it’s just astonishing how rapidly they are proceeding in homosexualizing the whole world.”

Addressing the National Organization for Marriage’s Washington D.C. rally, Mike Huckabee said that “there is no doubt in my mind” that the U.S. “will feel His hand of judgment” if the courts strike down bans on same-sex marriage. Another speaker at the event, pastor and Pennsylvania politician Sam Rohrer, predicted that the legalization of same-sex marriage will “destroy the very fabric of our nation,” “invite God’s judgment” and “remove His blessing from our nation.”

Televangelist Pat Robertson — who had a banner year of blasting gay people as “terrorists” and demonic — marked Thanksgiving by warning that gay rights are “sowing the seeds” of America’s “destruction.”

Abortion Rights

Not only did we learn this year that the Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade was responsible for America’s withdrawal from Vietnam, but the landmark ruling is also apparently paving the way for the Last Days.

“The Response: Louisiana,” the upcoming Baton Rouge prayer rally hosted by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and sponsored by the American Family Association, republished materials from its 2012 Houston event featuring Texas Gov. Rick Perry that blamed abortion rights and homosexuality for natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and for contributing to America’s “ultimate destruction.” (After the materials caused controversy, organizers removed them from their website). Mike Huckabee similarly warned in a speech reflecting on the Holocaust that abortion rights and marriage equality will lead to the collapse of civilization.

Michael Bresciani assured Christian Post readers that the deleterious effects of climate change actually have nothing to do with the environment at all. Instead, Bresciani writes, incidents of extreme weather are just “‘birth pangs’ for a planet about to meet its creator” as legal abortion, along with homosexuality, brings “the antichrist to his short lived rule over a reprobate and dying world.”

In a column published on BarbWire, Bresciani claimed that “gay marriage and abortion, Obama’s preferred social causes, are antichrist in nature,” warning that the “Bible says that when a nation chooses to ignore its sinfulness, God will not only allow them to go reprobate, but will empower them with rulers who will enable them to succeed in their drive to destruction.”

End Times preacher Jonathan Cahn linked abortion rights and same-sex marriage to the September 11 terrorist attacks and a looming “great shaking” from God, and the Oak Initiative said legal abortion led to “the alien invasion” on America’s southern border as “a sign of divine judgment.”

Joel Rosenberg, a prominent Religious Right author who focuses his work on End Times scenarios, told Pat Robertson that legal abortion has turned the U.S. into a worse country than Nazi Germany, warning viewers: “We know the judgment that came on Nazi Germany, and we feel like it was correct, it was just. What do we think is going to happen?”

The War on Christmas

Conservative activists often celebrate Christmas by claiming that they are being persecuted by store clerks and neighbors who dare to say “Happy Holidays” as part of the annual "War on Christmas."

A distraught Franklin Graham warned “the war on Christmas is a war on Christ and His followers” and described it as a satanic plot that may one day lead to violent anti-Christian persecution.

A Renew America columnist said the “war on Christmas” and “the growing disrespect and outright mocking of one of Christianity’s holiest days” is linked to biblical prophecies about the End Times: “While Christians in other nations like Iraq, China, and Iran are being murdered in the most gruesome of ways for their faith in Jesus Christ, America allows Him to be mocked and ridiculed. What kind of people have we become to allow this travesty? God's Word says that ‘in the Last Days, scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires.’ (2 Pe. 3:3 NLT).”

“Friends, what we are seeing is the reason America is not mentioned as a world power in Bible end times prophecy,” writes J.P. Sloane in the far-right outlet BarbWire. “As America continues to travel down the Paganistic heathen slope of perversions—and atheists attacking Christians and Jews—while Muslims are celebrating their holidays in the very capital of our country—yes in our very own White House—Christmas—a legal American holiday—is under attack on a regular annual basis!”

Christian Anti-Defamation Commission President Gary Cass told radio host Jerry Newcombe of Truth in Action Ministries that “the spirit of Antichrist” is behind the mythical War on Christmas.

The Perfect Ex-Gay Christmas Gift

Unless your family has fallen victim to the War on Christmas, Mission America’s Linda Harvey knows just the thing to get that gay or lesbian friend this year: her new book, “Maybe He’s Not Gay.”

Harvey authored the book to peddle ex-gay pseudo-science and further explain her claim that gay people do not exist, telling listeners of her radio bulletin today that it would make a perfect Christmas gift.

If you were wondering what to get your teen or college student for Christmas, how about giving them the gift of common sense and morality? This is the way many people have described my book, ‘Maybe He’s Not Gay: Another View On Homosexuality,’” she said. “Same-sex relationships are not what anyone was born for yet there are reasons why people get there and even more reasons why they can leave those feelings behind.”

Religious Right Activist Wants An Anti-Gay 'Uprising' If SCOTUS Rules For Marriage Equality

Phil Burress, head of the Ohio-based Citizens for Community Values, thinks that the American people will revolt if the Supreme Court makes a sweeping ruling in favor of marriage equality.

Speaking over the weekend with Mission America’s Linda Harvey, Burress said he feared that the Supreme Court “will force same-sex marriage on all fifty states,” adding that “the nation is not going to stand for this.”

Burress added that in the event of such a ruling anti-gay activists will be forced to reorganize and launch a new campaign to amend the Constitution: “I really believe if the Supreme Court was to rule the wrong way, I think you’re going to see an uprising and a demand for a constitutional amendment that takes this matter out of the hands of the courts and puts it back into the states.”

Burress went on to attack Sen. Rob Portman, the Ohio Republican who endorsed marriage equality after his son came out as gay, pledging to defeat to him if he runs for re-election and unite Portman’s conservative opponents around a single primary challenger.

“We did a poll of just conservatives, the values voters, dealing with just Portman,” Burress said. “Seventy-two percent of them said that they would not support Portman. If he runs, he will lose.”

He claimed that marriage equality is losing support among voters: “The reason they are losing support is because people are understanding this is not about same-sex marriage or same-sex unions anymore, it’s about persecution, it’s about suing people, it’s about forcing people to comply with what they want or else we’re going to put you out of business and if you don’t comply then we’ll put you in jail.”
