Staver: Dealing With 'Homofascists' Is 'Almost Like Negotiating With Terrorists'

On the "Faith and Freedom" radio broadcast scheduled to air tomorrow, Matt Barber and Mat Staver weigh in on the recent controversy surrounding "Duck Dynasty" to declare that the key lesson to be learned is that the "homofascists" are nothing but bullies who cannot and should not be negotiated with ... just like terrorists:

Barber: There's a take-away from all this; it's been a few weeks now, all the dust has settled and everything but left in the rubble of all this, the big losers GLAAD, the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Human Rights Campaign, the so-called secular progressive left in general. People are finally seeing that if you stand up to these bullies, you are dealing with a paper tiger. They have no power that people don't give them. These big corporations and individuals in the entertainment industry and people grant these homofascist bullies - I call them the Gaystapo - they grant them this power that otherwise they would not have. This tyranny of the minority has been taking place for too long now and Americans, when they stand up, when the double down and say 'no, I'm not going to waiver from biblical truth on matters of human sexuality,' it's like okay, what are you going to do now?  Nothing. They go away and lick their wounds.

...

Staver: It's the rank and file people of America, the vast majority of people who do not support this homosexual agenda, do not support this homofascism, they en masse respond and A& E and Cracker Barrel had to read the tea leaves and it was pretty easy to do it ...

So [Phil Robertson is] not going to be bullied by anyone and I think the other thing is to not back down. Some people, they get intimated, they don't want to get involved in this fight and yet Phil Robertson stood there on principle, he stood there with love and he became a national hero to many people because he would not budge. If you back down, if you give someone an inch - it's almost like negotiating with terrorists - if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile.

Barber: Contraception Mandate Like Forcing Someone To Pay For A Hitman

On yesterday's "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Matt Barber and Mat Staver discussed the stay issued by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, temporarily blocking the Affordable Care Act's contraception mandate from applying to an order of Catholic nuns known as the Little Sisters of the Poor.

Under the contraception mandate, religious organizations simply have to fill out a form declaring that the organization objects to having to provide contraception to its employees, which then obligates the insurance provider to provide such coverage separately.

But as Barber put it, this is unacceptable because it is no different than forcing a religious group to pay to hire a hit man to murder someone:

Barber: This is illusory, this compromise, this accommodation that the Obama administration and the HHS is calling it. It's a Chicago-style shell game. This is no different, the analogy that came to mind when I first heard about this so-called accommodation to religious organizations, it's like telling someone to go out and shoot somebody, to kill somebody. Because that's what we're talking about here, abortion is homicide, it's the taking of innocent human life. So we're saying you have fun going out and shooting somebody and you say 'no,no, I can't do that, I'm not going to do that.' And they say 'well, what we'll do is we'll set up a straw man; you have to sign on the dotted line so a hit man, on your behalf, can go out and kill somebody.' That's what we're talking about here.

In law, Mat, as you know, just because you hire out the murder doesn't mean that you're not responsible for the crime. It's still first degree murder. This is no different than what the Obama Administration is trying to do.

Staver: Even though you're not the one paying for the murder, but you're the one who sets it up and authorizes it, then you're still part of it.

Liberty Counsel Honors Israeli Government Days After It Adopts 'World's Most Liberal' Abortion Policy

Just two days after Israel’s cabinet approved a new policy extending government abortion subsidies to all women ages 20-33, the staunchly anti-choice Liberty Counsel released an alert entitled, “Stand With Israel Now,” complete with a photograph of Benjamin Netanyahu with Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver.

“There has never been a more critical time for you to show your support to Israel and its Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu! Become a Liberty Ambassador to Israel and have your faith strengthened and your resolve fortified to stand for Israel,” the group writes. “In light of the failed foreign policies of our current American administration, it has never been a more important time to express our unwavering resolve to stand united with Israel.”

Matt Barber, Staver’s deputy at Liberty Counsel, has praised Netanyahu as the “Leader of the Free World” who turned Israel into “the shining city on the hill,” unlike President Obama whom the group regularly berates as “one of the world’s immoral leaders.”

The group accuses Obama of implementing “forced abortion funding” and “rubbing the aborted babies in the face of every single American.” They also argue that God will punish America for Obama’s “self-destructive” pro-choice stance, and have linked abortion rights to SatanslaveryNazism and the Holocaust.

Just a few months ago, Staver and Barber insisted that if they were to remain silent in their opposition to abortion rights, they would be just as bad as “those who silently stood by and allowed the Nazis to murder millions of Jews.” “Silence is affirmation,” Staver said. “If you are silent on this issue, you are affirming that this is something that is acceptable.”

“Posterity will view those who stood in silence or who tacitly accepted this abortion holocaust just as history views those who silently stood by and allowed the Nazis to murder millions of Jews,” Barber said, adding: “Are we comparing the pro-choice movement to the Nazi movement? Yes! Absolutely.”

Now, imagine if it was the Obama administration rather than Netanyahu’s cabinet which adopted a far-reaching policy that the Times of Israel calls one of the “most liberal abortion coverage [policies] in the world”?

But so far from Liberty Counsel, there are no calls for Netanyahu’s ouster, no comparisons to Nazism and no warnings of divine wrath.

Instead just a statement entitled, “Stand With Israel Now.”

Staver Fears Everyone Will Go Gay Under Marriage Equality

Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver is warning that with full marriage equality, everyone may decide to marry someone of the same sex and society could “cease to exist” altogether. While speaking to Vic Eliason of VCY America last week, Staver said that if gay marriage becomes legal nationwide then the country could become a childless, disease-ridden dystopia:

If you ultimately promoted same-sex marriage and everyone started to go towards same-sex marriage, what would happen to society? It would just simply cease to exist. Moreover, you’d have rampant increase in diseases. Already, you have rampant increase in diseases among same-sex activities, specifically men having sex with men. Same-sex marriage, same-sex relationships is destructive to individuals and it’s destructive to our very social fabric.

He later claimed that the expansion of gay rights is encouraging pedophilia and that the media “promotes” bestiality by making sex with animals seem like “a funny thing.” “That’s how this whole homosexuality began to happen on TV,” Staver said.

Staver went on to praise India’s Supreme Court for recriminalizing homosexuality and Russian president Vladimir Putin for “defending traditional marriage and criticizing President Obama.” Staver continued, “Yet we see this president refusing to meet Vladimir Putin because of this issue. The President of the United States refuses to meet with the President of Russia because the president of Russia believes in marriage as one man and one woman, that is a perverted situation that we have.”

Of course, Staver is being dishonest: Obama actually canceled a September summit with Putin over the Edward Snowden asylum controversy. Further, Putin isn’t facing criticism because he “believes in marriage as one man and one woman,” but because his government is leading a crackdown on Russia’s gay community and rolling back the free speech rights.

“The president will meet with people such as the Iranian delegation and other terrorists from around the country, but not with someone who believes that marriage is the union of a man and a woman and that homosexuality should not be actively promoted in their school systems,” Staver said.

Religious Right Activists Suddenly Against Biblical Definition of Marriage

The same activists who support a wide definition of religious liberty that entails sweeping legal exemptions for Christians and who believe that US laws must closely follow biblical dictates, are now upset that a religious family has successfully challenged Utah’s anti-polygamy statute.

A Contemporary History Lesson From Liberty Counsel

One of the Religious Right's favorite myths is that the original Pilgrims were socialists who nearly died until they turned to capitalism, after which they held the first Thanksgiving to thank God for blessing and saving them.

This story was the centerpiece of the "Faith and Freedom" program posted on Thanksgiving, where Matt Barber declared that he is thankful that "Obamacare is failing and failing catastrophically" because it is no different than the failed attempt at socialism that nearly doomed the Pilgrims.

"Obamacare is just a much larger version of what happened in the Plymouth Colony," Barber said. "President Obama, people will say it's hyperbole to call him a communist, well, his mother was an avowed communist, he sat under Uncle Frank, Frank Marshall Davis, an avowed communist. President Obama, to say that he has Marxist leanings is an understatement."

Barber went on to assert that Obamacare is nothing but communism by another name and Mat Staver readily agreed, saying that Obama "is a socialist in his mentality, government is the God in his view" and declaring that just "like the colonists in the Plymouth Plantation, it's not working":

Liberty Counsel Has Nothing To Show For Its 25,000 Hours Of Work

Today, Liberty Counsel posted a video in which Mat Staver and Matt Barber highlighted all of the work the organization has done this year, leading off with their fight against Obamacare.

Staver bragged that Liberty Counsel was the first organization to file a lawsuit as soon as President Obama signed it into law, claiming (about 1:40 into the video) that they have put more than 25,000 hours into this case since 2010.

That means that Liberty Counsel spent every waking moment for 1,041 days waging its lawsuit against health care reform:

As luck would have it, today the Supreme Court turned away Liberty Counsel's lawsuit, leaving in place a lower court ruling dismissing it.

Maybe they ought to have spent more time working on it!

Liberty Counsel Made A Movie. Seriously

On the heels of Rick Santorum's flop as a movie mogul, it looks like the professional anti-gay activists over at Liberty Counsel have been bitten by the acting bug and decided to try their hands at filmmaking as well, with the release of a feature film called "Uncommon" starring none other than Erik Estrada:

Liberty Counsel released the trailer to its first feature film, Uncommon. The film about religious liberty in public school stars Erik Estrada (CHiP's), Ben Davies (Courageous), Irma P. Hall (Soul Food), and Grammy Award-winning Christian Musician Jason Crabb.

“Religious liberty in public school is certainly a fitting topic for our first feature film,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel. “Many of the calls Liberty Counsel receives are from parents and students whose speech and religious viewpoints are being censored in the public schools.”

Based on the trailer, the film looks to be exactly as awful as one would expect a movie made by Liberty Counsel to be ... especially one that actually features Mat Staver in an acting role:

Barber & Staver: 'America Is Exporting Evil'

On yesterday's "Faith and Freedom" radio program, Mat Staver recounted a recent trip he made to Peru where he was hailed by government leaders for his anti-gay work in America and given a medal for his efforts to help prevent Peru from being taken over by President Obama godless colonialism.

On today's broadcast, Staver continued to discuss his trip, revealing that he was praised and thanked for his work everywhere he went, including during a rally at a soccer stadium where he was brought to tears by tens of thousands of people cheering for him.

As Staver explained, the trip has ultimately strengthened his resolve to fight harder at home as well as against Obama's efforts to colonize the world with his godlessness; a sentiment with which co-host Matt Barber readily agreed, because "America is exporting evil:

Barber: America is exporting evil to nations around the world and there is a thirst across the world for truth and Scripture is transcendent truth and biblical values are truth and the truth of Scripture and the way, the truth, and the life who is Christ is the glue that holds together any nation and once we abandon that truth, as we've seen throughout history, that nation will ultimately self-destruct.  They don't want that to happen in Peru.

Staver: One of the things that is interesting is, you know, Obama is a colonialist or an imperialist with regards to exporting anti-God, anti-family values. And while he might want to pull away from colonialism in the understood sense of exporting the country to another country, he certainly is doing that very same thing to undermine God and values in these countries.  And so he's working hard through this administration to fund programs and undermine the sanctity of human life and marriage in Peru and other Latin American countries and, frankly, around the world.

This, I believe God has opened up some amazing opportunities.  It really encouraged me to continue to fight the battle here in America and also to stand for our brothers and sisters in Latin America and other parts around the world who also still share these same Judeo-Christian values and that America, ultimately, is trying to  undermine.  We need to stand for this value of what ultimately makes America great, these Judeo-Christian values.

Staver Awarded By Peruvian Government For Helping To Fight Obama's Godless Colonialism

We have written a lot in recent months about the efforts by the Religious Right to export their homophobia and help other nations institute draconian anti-gay policies that these activists have been unable to implement here in the United States.

So it was with great interest that we listened to today's "Faith and Freedom" radio program as Liberty Counsel's Mat Staver revealed that he had recently returned from Peru where he had been invited to help the government fight President Obama's colonialist effort to force an anti-God agenda upon the nation.

As Staver explained, he was invited down by a member of the Peruvian Congress and given a red carpet treatment, meeting with several high-ranking government officials and even awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor:

I recently returned from Peru and it was quite an eye opening experience. I was invited there and I had an opportunity to speak to Congress and also the head of the attorneys and the head of the judiciary and the head of all the educational accrediting body as well.

...

And one of the things that they are concerned with is that America is trying to undermine that Judeo--Christian foundation, particularly the Obama administration is funding through the State Department and other ways pro-abortion initiatives, pro-LGBT initiatives, lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, etcetera, and same-sex marriage initiatives.

...

So consequently when we came, they looked to us for somebody who could help them and they knew everything about what we were about. They knew about cases that Liberty Counsel was involved with, they knew about my involvement in education and they knew about all these different areas. So when I spoke to Congress, I was supposed to be there at ten o'clock in the morning on a Thursday and I was there in a room and I looked out through the chamber, which was the Senate chamber, and we had to delay the meeting until about 10:30 because it was packed and people were standing in the aisles and standing in other places. They had put in an extra row of seats and there was at least a hundred people, attorneys from around Peru, that could not get in, they were standing out in the aisle and they could not get into this event.

Sitting in the very front row was a general in the Peruvian Navy, he had all of his regalia on. Next to him was another high-ranking member of the military, Navy Seals, members of Congress, judges, the number one person over all of the attorneys in Peru was sitting at a table with me, he co-sponsored this event. And there's educators, there's teachers, there's young people.

And my message was about worldview and two different worldviews, one with God and one without God and how it makes a difference in law and policy. And then I took it down to specifics such as abortion and marriage and that these are part of God's natural created order, that there's a sanctity of human life because we are created in God's image and marriage is part of God's natural created order and it is part of the very first form of government and that we must protect those and I encouraged the Peruvians to stand strong.

So after that, we got an ovation, a standing ovation there, and  to my amazement then, the next part of the ceremony was they awarded me a Congressional Medal of Honor.

...

They were very appreciate to us that we were there to help them in any way so that they could maintain that Judeo-Christian foundation. What we see is an imperialist America, a colonialist America under this Obama administration exporting anti-God, anti-values to these countries in Latin America and around the world.

UPDATE: Here is video of Staver speaking in Peru and a screencap of him receiving the medal:

Right Wing Leftovers - 11/21/13

  • Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver slammed [PDF] the Senate rule change on judicial nominees as a dangerous threat to freedom… but in 2005 demanded the Senate “end the judicial filibusters at the earliest possible moment.”
  • Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appears to be deliberately excluding same-sex couples from a resolution honoring National Adoption Month.
  • Indiana Republicans reaffirmed their plan to advance a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
  • After leading a one-man protest against the signing of the Illinois marriage equality law, Peter LaBarbera thinks Gov. Pat Quinn “owes Abraham Lincoln an apology.”

Paranoia-Rama: This Week In Right-Wing Lunacy - 11/15/13

RWW's Paranoia-Rama takes a look at five of the week’s most absurd conspiracy theories from the Right.

President Obama is up to it again, this time trying to make everyone gay (just like him) and establish a secret army of soldiers posing as doctors...and there is nothing you can do about it because Obama is rigging all the elections. At least, that’s what we have learned this week from the right-wing media.

5. Military Attacking Christians

Religious Right activists have continued to make dubious and discredited claims about supposed religious persecution in the military as part of an effort to prove that conservative Christians are the real victims of societal discrimination. While appearing on Fox News, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council warned the Obama administration is “on a search-and-destroy mission as it pertains to religious liberty.”

“The military has been homosexualized,” Liberty Counsel’s Matt Barber said. “The homosexual agenda has taken over the United States military.” Frank Gaffney alleged that policies ending discrimination against gay and female service members have made Christianity “a career-threatening activity” and as a result “invite war” on America.

4. Gohmert Exposes Obamacare’s Secret Strike Force

The Affordable Care Act included a provision to expand the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, which focuses on emergency responses, to include part-time members who would join the affiliated Ready Reserve Corps. But Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), who is becoming a regular fixture on Paranoia-Rama, thinks this actually may be a sinister plot by Obama to train doctors with weapons as part of a plan to suppress the American people. This isn’t the first time Gohmert made such an accusation, and even though Gohmert’s claim is completely erroneous, he will probably defend his remarks by insisting that he is just asking the question!

3. The UN Is Coming For Your Kids

“They're coming for your daughters and sons... WHO WANTS OUR DAUGHTERS? WHY DO THEY WANT OUR DAUGHTERS?” That’s how an actual email from Austin Ruse, the head of the Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute, begins. “The sexual radicals have your children, MY CHILDREN, in their crosshairs.” According to Ruse, a United Nations Population Fund report on ways to address adolescent pregnancy is proof that the UN wants to train kids how to masturbate and get abortions. Seriously.

2. ENDA Will Force People To Be Gay

After the Employment Non-Discrimination Act passed the US Senate with bipartisan support, Robert Knight took to the Washington Times to argue that ENDA would “repeal the Bible.” Not to be outdone, Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver said that ENDA and similar gay rights laws put America on “the road toward a revolution” in order to resist the supposed anti-Christian persecution. But Michael Peroutka really knew about the gay rights end game, predicting that ENDA would ultimately “force” people to be gay.

1. Cuccinelli Won Virginia After All!

The co-founder and managing director of LifeSiteNews, one of Ken Cuccinelli’s favorite websites, claims that Cuccinelli actually won the Virginia gubernatorial election because he won more geographic territory. Steve Jalsevac writes:

Notice that the map seems to be almost solid red. And yet, Ken Cuccinelli somehow very narrowly lost to his Democrat opponent. To me, something smells about this race (not just because of all the red on the map) and I suspect Ken Cuccinelli actually won Virginia, but certain things happened, beyond the betrayal by some Republicans, campaign weaknesses and other reported issues, to ensure that that would not be the official result.

My overwhelming hunch is that the McAuliffe campaign, with the help of traitorous social liberal Republicans, engineered the voting to make sure that Ken Cuccinelli could not win the election no matter how many people voted for him.

Of course, the obvious answer is that Terry McAuliffe dominated more urban areas and that geographic space does not equal population. But Jalsevac, citing zero evidence, thinks the returns are “suspect.” He adds that Cuccinelli’s extreme social agenda made him more likely to win the election against McAuliffe than a more moderate Republican candidate, which he thinks is just another reason Cuccinelli probably won the election.

Now, you may ask, didn’t the party breakdown of the results in Virginia’s counties in the 2013 gubernatorial election look very similar to those in the 2012 presidential election?

Well, Jalsevac has an answer for that too, linking to a 2012 article which says the Democrats rigged the 2012 election too.

Staver: ENDA Will Incite A Revolution, Turn Restrooms Into 'Free-For-Alls'

Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver has been busy waging a fight against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), appearing yesterday on a Tea Party Unity conference call as well as on VCY America’s radio show Crosstalk. He warned that President Obama and gay rights advocates are targeting “common values and religious principles” with bills like ENDA.

“I think that if that continues to move forward in that respect we’re moving down the road toward a revolution; you’re either moving to persecution or you’re moving to revolution or you’re moving to both,” Staver said on the TPU call. “Unless there is a reversal of this huge government intrusion into our basic shared liberties, we’re moving toward revolution or we’re moving to persecution or both.”

He previously predicted that the Supreme Court’s decisions on the marriage cases would spark a revolution or civil war.

Staver, who previously warned that ENDA will lead to death and sexual assault, told Crosstalk host Vic Eliason that ENDA is a “very dangerous bill” that will “literally turn all women’s restrooms into free-for-alls for some man or some voyeur or some person who wants to do mischief or harm.”

Seventeen states already have employment protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity (PDF), and yet Staver never seems to find actual cases of “free-for-alls” taking place in women’s restrooms.

Marco Rubio To Headline Anti-Gay Fundraiser

The Florida Family Policy Council announced today that it will host Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) at its 2013 Annual Dinner. The FFPC is led by John Stemberger, the anti-gay activist who most recently helped launch a Boy Scouts splinter group that will ban openly gay youth, and the fundraiser will honor Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver.

Stemberger and Staver are far outside of the mainstream, but with Rubio preparing for a possible presidential run in 2016 he may use this event, much like his speech at the Values Voter Summit, to soothe any doubts about his right-wing credentials.

Stemberger previously chaired Florida for Marriage, which spearheaded the campaign to pass a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions, and founded the anti-gay Boy Scout alternative Trail Life USA. Earlier in his career as a lawyer, he was widely criticized for misconduct in the Rifqa Barry case.

Stemberger has a long record of incendiary anti-gay rhetoric. He:

  • Said that people are gay because they think it is “hip” and “cool.”
  • Alleged that affirming LGBT youth is “tantamount to abuse” and “an abuse to that child.”

We noted Staver’s radicalism and involvement in a kidnapping case in our profile of him for the 2013 Values Voter Summit:

Mat Staver is the head of the Liberty University School of Law and its legal affiliate, Liberty Counsel, a sponsor of the Values Voter Summit. Liberty Counsel has beenimplicated in the Lisa Miller kidnapping case, where a client kidnapped her daughter and fled to Central America after a court granted custody to her former partner. At a previous Values Voter Summit, Staver claimed that progressives are using LGBT rights and secular government in order to “ultimately implode America” and that the “agenda of the homosexual movement” is to destroy freedom and western civilization. Through his role at Liberty Counsel, Staver has:

PFAW Applauds Senate Cloture Vote on ENDA

WASHINGTON – People For the American Way today applauded the Senate’s vote to end a Republican filibuster on proceeding to consider the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, which would make it illegal to fire, refuse to hire, or refuse to promote employees because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. People For the American Way President Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“Today’s Senate vote is a huge victory in the ongoing fight to end discrimination in all its forms. Passing ENDA is simply common sense – no one should be fired because of who they are or who they love. These basic workplace protections are so in line with American values that most of the country believes that these protections are already the law of the land.

“Sadly, anti-gay extremists on the right have resorted to dangerous fear mongering and flat-out lies in their push against this important legislation. From American Family Association spokesperson Bryan Fischer’s declaration that ENDA would ‘represent the return of Jim Crow laws’ to Liberty Counsel chairman Mat Staver’s warning that ENDA would result in the ‘death of some individuals,’ their outrageous claims make clear just how far away their views are from those of everyday Americans.

“I trust that the Senate will soon pass ENDA. The question then becomes whether House Republican leadership will stand on the side of anti-gay extremists or on the side of common sense and decency by allowing the bill to be taken up and passed.”

For more information on the far right and ENDA, see People For the American Way’s Right Wing Watch round-up of the top ten Religious Right claims about the legislation: http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/enda-near-top-ten-religious-right-claims-about-employment-non-discrimination-act-updated

The ENDA is Near: The Top Ten Religious Right Claims About the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (UPDATED)

With the Senate expected to vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act before Thanksgiving, here’s a look at Right Wing Watch’s collection of recent – and classic – claims from the Religious Right about ENDA.  Because ENDA is common sense legislation that would make it illegal to fire, refuse to hire, or refuse to promote employees because of their sexual orientation or gender identity, the Right cannot gain much traction by opposing ENDA on its merits.  Instead, resorting to fear-mongering and lies, they contend that ENDA will lead to everything from the end of religious freedom to sexual assault and death. As the vote approaches, senators will have to choose whether they will cast their lot with anti-gay extremists or with common sense.

10. Matt Barber: ENDA And Hate Crimes Laws Will Be Used To Protect Pedophiles (October 2013)

Matt Barber of Liberty Counsel appeared on Sandy Rios In The Morning, where he told guest host Wendy Wright that hate crimes laws and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act will be used to protect pedophiles:

“When you have laws like ENDA, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, being pushed, hate crimes legislation, that are as you point out so well Wendy, that are very vague in their definition of what is sexual orientation, we will arrive at the point where you know these people who define their sexual orientation by a sexual attraction to children want to be lumped in among those who cannot be discriminated against based upon their sexual orientation.”

9. Steve Crampton: ENDA is Insanity (June 2012)

Speaking about a Senate hearing on ENDA, Liberty Counsel’s “Faith and Freedom” radio host Steve Crampton marveled that a transgender person was actually allowed to testify on behalf of the legislation and complained that ENDA is not about “equal rights” but rather “special rights” for gays and cross-dressers.

Crampton stated that if ENDA passed, he could come into work – “God forbid,” he said – wearing a dress and would be allowed to use the women’s restroom.  “In years past,” Crampton said, “we had another word for this: it’s called insanity.”

8. Rep. Louie Gohmert Misleads on ENDA, Criticizes Faith Groups that Affirm Gays and Lesbians 'Despite the Plumbing that God Created' (June 2012)

While speaking on Today’s Issues, the Texas congressman said the anti-discrimination legislation is “part of this administration’s ongoing war on religion, on particularly Judeo-Christian values,” and asserted that Muslims would also oppose the bill as well. However, Gohmert lamented the growth of Christian and Jewish denominations and organizations that affirm gays and lesbians and defend their rights, saying that they do so “despite the plumbing that God created.”

7. Mat Staver: ENDA ‘Will Harm Women and Children’ (July 2013)

Liberty Counsel head Mat Staver in a Freedom’s Call radio alert said that the ENDA bill is a “farce” that will “harm women and children.” How? Because employers “will be forced to hire cross-dressers,” whom Staver believes will go on to molest and assault kids.

6. Linda Harvey: Gays Deserve To Be Fired Because They ‘Insist On Displaying [Their] Lifestyles To Everyone’ (May 2013)

Mission America’s Linda Harvey stated her belief that schools, and employers in general, should have the right to fire LGBT personnel and urged them to exercise that right. She said that the only person to blame for getting fired is the LGBT employee who refuses to accept their employer’s “high moral standards” and “insist[s] on displaying these lifestyles to everyone and forcing their acceptance.” She said that “no one needs to be involved in homosexuality” and that the “homosexual lifestyle” is incompatible with being “an excellent employee” as it “shows a disrespect” to others.

5. Tony Perkins: ‘Totalitarian Homosexual Lobby’ Out to Destroy Religious Freedom with ENDA (March 2013)

“Like a B-grade 1950’s horror-movie, ENDA is coming back from the dead,” warned Family Research Council President Tony Perkins in a recent mailing. Perkins said President Obama is working with the “totalitarian homosexual lobby” to sneak ENDA into law, and if that happens, “Our freedom of religion will be destroyed.”

“In fact,” says Perkins in his letter, “under ENDA biblical morality becomes illegal.”

4. Andrea Lafferty Cites CT School Shooting to Rally Opposition to Non-Discrimination Policies (December 2012)

Andrea Lafferty of the Traditional Values Coalition used the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, in order to bolster her campaign against ENDA. While speaking to Janet Mefferd about the Orange County, Florida, school system’s new non-discrimination policy that is similar to ENDA, Lafferty said that just as parents are upset about the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting and are concerned about keeping their children safe, they should also be worried about ENDA’s “devastating effects” as schools will have “people with some real issues playing out their personal problems in the classroom.”

Lafferty maintained that ENDA is part of the left’s “open season” on Christians on behalf of “fringe minorities and people that are truly sick.”  She warned that Chick-fil-A restaurants may soon be “forced” to hire “weirdos” seeking to undermine Christian businesses, warning that transgender people are committing “the ultimate act of self-hatred” and need “special medical treatment” rather than job protections.

3. Gordon Klingenschmitt: Under ENDA, ‘Christians Will Be Bankrupted’ And ‘Starve To Death’ (September 2013)

Dr. “Chaps” Gordon Klingenschmitt emailed members of his Pray In Jesus Name Project warning that Christians may face unemployment and starvation if the Employment Non-Discrimination Act passes.

“The Government is now ordering you: Forsake God or starve to death,” Klingenschmitt writes. “I pray that I would choose bankruptcy, starvation, even death, before disobedience to God.”

2. Bryan Fischer: Businesses Threatened by ‘Flaming Homosexual’ Job Applicants and the ‘Return of Jim Crow Laws’ (January 2013)

American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer warned in a blog post that “ENDA would represent the return of Jim Crow laws.” On his radio program Focal Point, Fischer warned that if ENDA is signed into law businesses will be faced with a barrage of “flaming homosexual” job applicants. “The homosexual lobby,” Fischer said, “will send a guy in there wearing stilettos, a dress and dangly earrings” in order to provoke Christian business-owners “not to hire him.”

1. Mat Staver: ENDA Will Result in the 'Death of Some Individuals' (June 2012)

Liberty Counsel chairman Mat Staver is ratcheting up the rhetoric in opposition to ENDA, even going so far as to say that if passed the legislation may lead to child molestation, sexual assault, and death. Staver told Jim Schneider of VCY America on Crosstalk that ENDA “will put individuals at risk and ultimately result in significant damage and even death of some individuals”:

Staver: “So you can go into these restrooms or changing rooms, if you’re a man, and want to go in and molest, or watch, or sexually assault young girls. So, I mean, the absurdity of this is just beyond understanding how someone could be in favor of it. This will ultimately, in addition to colliding with religious liberty, in addition to forcing a radical agenda on people, this also will put individuals at risk and ultimately result in significant damage and even death of some individuals.”

Staver: Obama Is Worse Than King George And Obamacare Is Worse Than The Boston Massacre

On the broadcast today, Mat Staver warned that the "red line of liberty" has repeatedly been crossed by President Obama in ways that are much worse than what King George III did to cause the Revolutionary War.

After citing several biblical examples, ranging from Esther to Jesus, of biblical figures rising up against tyrants who sought to snuff out liberty, Staver asserted that the Obama administration has been supporting Muslim terrorists while stigmatizing Christians, saying "this is worse than what we saw with King George in terms of what he did to his people" and warning that the United States finds itself again standing at a crucial point in history.

Staver went on to compare Obamacare to the Boston Massacre, saying that while the massacre only resulted in a handful of deaths, Obamacare is "slaughtering its own" by the tens of thousands by "forcing employers to fund the killing of innocent unborn children."

"It pales in comparison," Staver said, "to the Boston Massacre of five or six people. What we are seeing today is clearly the red line, if it hasn't been crossed already - and I tend to think that it has been crossed - it's certainly right there in front of us. And now we the people are going to have to make a decision: are we going to continue to live in the face of this tyranny?":

Barber & Staver: When It Comes To Freedom, President Obama Is 'The Enemy Within'

Today, Mat Staver and Matt Barber joined in the Religious Right outrage over a military training session at which the American Family Association was categorized as a hate group.

Staver and Barber placed the blame squarely on President Obama, claiming that this is part of a systematic policy of hostility toward Christianity, with Barber stating that "it all started by homosexualizing the military, now they want to liberalize the military and ultimately the end game Matt, and there is no question about it, is to completely secularize the United States military and to push to the fringes those who have a biblical worldview."

Staver responded by comparing the Obama administration to the lying and oppressive Soviet regimes of his youth, saying "we can no longer trust our government" and accusing the administration of intentionally working to divide the nation by demonizing Christians.

"President Obama is to freedom," Barber stated, "the enemy within. He is trying to divide and conquer. He's dividing the American people, dividing the military and seek to conquer it for the secular socialist sociopolitical worldview":

Conspiracy Theories for Breakfast at Values Voter Summit

Early this morning, before the official opening of the Values Voter Summit, the Religious Right legal and advocacy group Liberty Counsel hosted “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition,” a breakfast panel on threats to the Second Amendment.  On the menu: conspiracy theories about President Barack Obama and the United Nations plotting to disarm Americans, and rhetoric of resistance.

In addition to Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver, the speakers were the Family Research Council’s Ken Blackwell (also a board member of the National Rifle Association) and gun-rights advocate Jan Morgan, who also appeared at Liberty Counsel’s Awakening conference earlier this year.

Morgan portrayed a United Nations treaty meant to restrict the illegal international trade in weapons as a UN plot to take Americans’ guns (false), and the Obama administration’s decision to sign the treaty as an ominous step.  Blackwell portrayed the “assault” on the Second Amendment as an assault on the Constitution and on God himself, warning that nations that fall to tyranny or big-government socialism first must destroy the family, silence the church, and disarm their citizens.  The Obama administration, he said, thinks it has replaced God in people’s lives. Asked how Americans should respond to the signing of the treaty, he said, “resist, resist, resist.”

Morgan celebrated the Colorado recall of two state senators who had supported the state’s new gun law, and she praised southern governors who she said are looking to put the “Firearm Freedom Act” into law in their states, which would threaten the arrest and prosecution of federal agents who try to enforce federal gun regulations in their state. She ended with a dramatic call for conservatives to “pull ourselves out of this pity party” and channel the fighting spirit of the founding fathers.
