Rios: Report On Gay Waiter Who Received Anti-Gay Message A 'Ruse' To Help ENDA

American Family Association radio host claims that the Overland Park, Kansas, waiter who in lieu of a tip received an anti-gay message from a customer staged the incident to help the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) pass the Senate. Rios offered absolutely no evidence to back up her claim, besides her gut feeling that the story was a “ruse” to aid ENDA, even though the waiter didn’t face discrimination from his employer.

“I smell a rat in this story,” Rios said, later adding: “I don’t believe a Christian couple wrote this note, I think it was a ruse because it was the week ENDA was being voted on.”

Religious Right Anti-Immigrant Group Warns Non-Christian Immigrants Will Encourage Sex Trafficking

Conservative activist Kelly Monroe Kullberg recently formed Evangelicals for Biblical Immigration as a response to the pro-reform Evangelical Immigration Table, and her new organization has received support from immigration critics like the American Family Association.

Like other Religious Right groups such as Eagle Forum and Family Research Council, the AFA is a staunch opponent of immigration reform and spokesman Bryan Fischer has even called for the US to require that all immigrations convert to Christianity and enforce a ban on Muslim immigration.

AFA talk show host Sandy Rios spoke to Kullberg this week about the supposed dangers of the Senate reform bill, including the laughable claim that the legislation will lead to “open borders” and therefore a rise in sex and human trafficking.

She also warned that people of “other faiths” and “incompatibly worldviews,” especially Muslims, will flood into America and “lessen the value on human life” in the US, making sex trafficking more acceptable. “As Islam takes root in America and other traditions take root, we are seeing a decline in human worth, human value and a rise in trafficking,” Kullberg said.

Numbers USA To Marco Rubio: Too Little, Too Late

Sen. Marco Rubio’s politically transparent U-turn on immigration reform may not be paying dividends among anti-immigrant activists as he would have hoped. The Florida Republican recently came out against the very comprehensive reform legislation he sponsored and helped pass in the Senate, but one of the country’s top opponents of his bill think it’s too little, too late.

NumbersUSA Director of Government Relations Rosemary Jenks told Sandy Rios yesterday that Rubio has already “poisoned the well” and now her group will urge congressman to vote against any immigration bill coming out of the House.

Rios: Do you think that Marco Rubio’s shift, slight shift, is helpful?

Jenks: Unfortunately, Rubio set out his positions in the Gang of 8 bill and that bill has essentially poisoned the well. We can’t go forward with a piecemeal approach now because that bill is sitting there, waiting for the House to pass any immigration bill so that Harry Reid can take that bill and substitute in S. 744, the Senate Gang of 8 bill, and then send it back to the House for a conference. That’s the path. So at this point, because that bill has poisoned the well, it’s too late for Marco Rubio to say, ‘oh you know I believed in a piecemeal approach all along and that’s what we should do.

Rios: Matthew Shepard Murder A 'Complete Fraud'

Not only did American Family Association talk show host Sand Rios plug the ex-gay movement and warn that gay people are trapped in “a powerful web of deceit” during her Values Voter Summit speech yesterday, but she also cited Stephen Jimenez’s shoddy reporting on the Matthew Shepard case to call his murder a “complete fraud.” She lamented that schools host the play The Laramie Project to teach tolerance to students and said that Shepard’s murder was a result of a “drug deal gone bad.”

Watch:

Today, we should note, marks the anniversary of Shepard’s death.

She also a read a letter from civil rights groups, including the Southern Poverty Law Center and People For the American Way, which urged Republican officials to skip the Values Voter Summit. Rios maintained that the letter proves that “it is a dangerous time to be a Christian conservative” in America.

Rios: Gays And Lesbians 'Caught In A Powerful Web Of Deceit'

Not only did Sandy Rios plug the ex-gay movement at today’s Values Voter Summit, but she also railed against public schools for creating an “ocean of propaganda on the homosexual issue” to indoctrinate kids.

“We have all these projects that talk about hate, we have the Matthew Shepard story, our kids really are just the products of the propaganda of the public school system,” she lamented.

“Millions of gay men and lesbians are caught in a powerful web of deceit that is breaking hearts.”

Rios: 'Fabulous' Ex-Gays Want To Tell Their Stories

Back in July, American Family Association talk show host Sandy Rios predicted that “thousands of ex-gays” would show up for an “Ex-Gay Pride” rally in Washington, D.C. Of course, fewer than ten did.

But Rios brought her ex-gay activism to the Values Voters Summit, telling attendees today that “there are tons of ex-gays with fabulous stories” that the media won’t mention. She even asked the audience if anyone knew an ex-gay.

No one raised their hand.

Rios: Gays Wanting To Become Scoutmasters, Big Brothers Proves They Seek To Abuse Children

American Family Association talk show host Sandy Rios this week once again connected the gay community to child abuse, this time telling Peter LaBarbera of Americans For Truth About Homosexuality that the fact gay people want to serve as Scoutmasters or Big Brothers or Big Sisters is “big proof” they are pedophiles.

LaBarbera, whose upcoming AFTAH banquet will feature Rios as the keynote speaker, didn’t dispute her claim, and argued that “homosexuality itself is immoral behavior so we would expect one sin to have other sins lead to it, and that’s exactly what we find.”

LaBarbera: All these things: pedophilia; sadism; masochism, are overrepresented in the homosexual movement then it would be in the rest of culture.

Rios: I guess one big proof that we should have some concern, the activists’ hell-bent determination to make sure that Boy Scout leaders can be gay men and that Big Brothers and Big Sisters can be—well they’ve succeeded with that—Big Brothers and Big Sisters now has no — that’s fine with them, with that organization, that a person be gay or a lesbian and be a Big Brother or Big Sister. Now they are really determined to make sure they break down Boy Scouts completely, they’ve succeeded to some extent. But that to me indicates an interest of older people being with younger people. I don’t know, am I rushing to a conclusion on that Peter?

LaBarbera: First of all, homosexuality itself is immoral behavior so we would expect one sin to have other sins lead to it, and that’s exactly what we find. We both know, we’ve been around a long time and we know these stories of so-called gay men who had child abuse in their own past, their own upbringing, and incredibly they make no connection between the pedophilia they experienced as boys and girls, some of them, and their adult gay identity. Common sense would say that’s wrong but sadly there’s this thing in the movement.

Rios: If Only Speaker Boehner Had The Courage Of Terrorists

American Family Association radio host Sandy Rios spoke to Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) yesterday about the government shutdown, and the congressman spent most of the time attacking President Obama for not capitulating to the GOP’s demands to derail Obamacare in order to keep the government running.

Stockman laced into Obama, calling him a “Machiavellian, amazing man that can call John Boehner a terrorist, it’s just beyond the pale.”

“It really is, oh that he did have the kind of courage that some of the—oh that’s kind of a dangerous statement I just made,” Rios replied, implying Boehner should have the same courage as terrorists. “I think many of us are praying that he will have more courage, there’s no question about that.”

Doyle: LGBT Community The 'Oppressors' Of Straight People

After Ex-Gay Pride Month was a complete disaster, to say the least, ex-gay activist Christopher Doyle appeared yesterday on Sandy Rios In The Morning to promote his latest event: Ex-Gay Awareness Month.

Rios wanted to know why the White House held a meeting with bisexual leaders while leaving out ‘ex-gays’ like Doyle, who told the American Family Association radio host that it is another sign that straight people like himself are facing discrimination by their “powerful oppressors” in the LGBT community.

“I think that what is really going on is there’s an effort by the White House and by politicians in rank and charge to include and recognize every single sexual orientation, sexual deviance, sexual preference and sexual lifestyle out there except for heterosexuals and ex-gays,” Doyle said. “So the people who say they are oppressed are the ones that are now politically powerful oppressors.”

Sandy Rios Uses Kenya Massacre To Promote Birther Conspiracy Theories

Never missing an opportunity to stoke anti-Obama conspiracy theories, American Family Association radio host Sandy Rios yesterday used the massacre at a mall in Nairobi, Kenya, to suggest that President Obama was born in the country and is related to a leading Kenyan political figure:

The implications of this are pretty frightening and of course it’s interesting that this is the country from which our President hails. This is his lineage. We know his cousin Raila Odinga is a Muslim communist. It’s just amazing. I think he’s the Prime Minister right now.

The AFA commentator’s claim that Obama “hails” from Kenya is not the first time she promoted birtherism, and her suggestion that Obama is related to the “Muslim communist” Raila Odinga most likely comes from discredited chain emails. Odinga is Kenya’s former prime minister and is neither a Muslim (he’s an evangelical Christian) nor a communist

The right-wing rumor mill has claimed that Obama donated to Odinga’s presidential campaign (false), endorsed Odinga’s candidacy (false) and campaigned for him (false). While Odinga has claimed to be Obama’s cousin, they are not biologically related and it is likely that Odinga was simply trying to garner publicity for his campaign.

The myth-busting website Snopes.com found that “no evidence has been offered to document that claim,” noting that Odinga was not the only candidate for president to claim to be Obama’s cousin and that Obama’s uncle denies that they are blood relatives. PolitiFact adds:

"It's stretched to the point of ridiculousness," said Joel D. Barkan, political science professor emeritus at the University of Iowa and senior associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. "To my knowledge, they are not first cousins in the normal sense. To my knowledge, there's absolutely no relationship at all."

Alex Awiti, a Kenyan postdoctoral fellow at Columbia University, says you have to consider the context of when Odinga was speaking, in the middle of a political crisis.

"Raila Odinga was groping all over the place, trying to find some political legitimacy to get on a high pedestal to claim leadership and using Obama was basically going to add some political points," said Awiti, who lived in Kenya until three years ago. "This is very opportunistic and it should be totally disregarded."

[Salim] Lone, Odinga's spokesman, said cousins in the African sense is very different from cousins in the American sense, so they might be distant relatives.

Rios: The Next Mass Shooting May Take Place At Starbucks Due To Howard Schultz Letter

Earlier this week Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz bought ad space in major national newspapers to run an open letter requesting “that customers no longer bring firearms into our stores or outdoor seating areas.”

Naturally, this prompted American Family Association radio host Sandy Rios to speculate if the “next shooting” will occur at Starbucks because criminals will now target Starbucks coffee shops: “Speaking of shooting, you just wonder if the next one is going to take place at one of your favorite coffee establishments because Starbucks is now…asking customers to stop bringing firearms to their stores or even outdoors.”

“I don’t know if people like the shooter on Monday,” referring to the Navy Yard shooting, “read the Washington Post or these treatises from people like Starbucks,” Rios said, alluding to the NRA-pushed myth that criminals target gun-free zones.

Sandy Rios Troubled By Role Of Women In Response To Navy Yard Shooting: 'It Was The Chicks Running The Show'

American Family Association radio commentator Sandy Rios was upset that women — most notably the FBI’s Valerie Parlave and Washington, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier — took a leading role in the response to the Navy Yard shooting.

On Tuesday, Rios mocked Navy Secretary Ray Mabus for mentioning grief counseling in his comments to the media and went on to marvel at the female presence in the response.

“It really struck me that the people that stood up to speak in the press conferences, the people leading the charge on this are all women,” Rios said, expressing disbelief that “the FBI woman in charge was a little woman.”

“It was the chicks running the show yesterday,” Rios said yesterday during her interview with Elaine Donnelly, “it is a shocking switch of roles.”

Donnelly Says Allowing Women In Combat Is Like Forcing Cheerleaders To Play In NFL Games; Rios Blames Spider-Woman

Center for Military Readiness head Elaine Donnelly appeared on Sandy Rios In The Morning today to once again warn of the perils of allowing women in combat. She told the American Family Association radio host that the Obama administration’s plan to open combat roles to women service members is “like saying let’s take those cheerleaders and put them into the frontlines of the NFL and football games.”

Rios said that the problem all started with the “feminist influence” found in movies that made women think that they “can do it all.”

“We are watching movies, almost every action movie has a chick hero and she’s stronger than the men, and she’s able to kick and to move and to kill as lethally as they are,” Rios added. “It started maybe with Spider-Woman, I don’t know.”

She went on to recount her time in Israel talking to the country’s female soldiers who “were very proud of what they were able to do” on the frontlines.

Rios sidestepped the issue on whether Israel’s policy towards women in the military harmed its country’s security, unlike her AFA colleague Bryan Fischer who tackled it by falsely claiming that Israel bans women in combat.

Donnelly: In that environment, direct ground combat, women are at a severe disadvantage. They do not have an equal opportunity to survive or help fellow soldiers survive. To force women into that environment it’s like saying let’s take those cheerleaders and put them into the frontlines of the NFL and football games. Well we don’t even do that with the officials in the football games. To do that would be unfair, injuries would skyrocket and it certainly wouldn’t help that team win any games, and that’s non-lethal combat. So if we’re not going to do it in non-lethal combat in the NFL, why are we planning on doing this in lethal combat where national security is at risk?

Rios: You and I both know that our daughters and many women listening to you and me, women our age too, are products of feminist influence even if they don’t consider themselves a feminist. We are watching movies, almost every action movie has a chick hero and she’s stronger than the men, and she’s able to kick and to move and to kill as lethally as they are, with Catherine Zeta Jones and think of all the women who have played these roles. It started maybe with Spider-Woman, I don’t know. It’s like ‘women power’ and ‘we can do this.’ In fact I just was in Israel interviewing some of the females in the Israeli military and they were talking about their frontline experience and they were very proud of what they were able to do, so there’s this mood, this feeling, that women can do it all.

Anti-Immigrant Activist on Undocumented Population: 'Weed The Garden' And 'Cull The Herd'

Zach Taylor of the National Association for Former Border Patrol Officers has been a leading voice against immigration reform, charging that “America’s immigration laws are not broken” and estimating that there are around 20 million undocumented immigrants in the US. In an interview with the American Family Association’s Sandy Rios today, Taylor claimed that of the 20 million (a grossly inflated number), “potentially thirty percent” have criminal records – and that immigration enforcement officials must “cull the herd” of immigrants.

Actually, immigrants – both documented and undocumented -- are far less likely to be incarcerated than native-born Americans, and many of those who are in prison are there as a result of immigration violations rather than violent crimes.

Taylor then went on to falsely suggest that the Obama administration is ignoring laws and not targeting immigrants with criminal records. But as Beth Caldwell notes, two million undocumented immigrants have been deported in the last five years and the Senate reform bill “categorically excludes most people with criminal convictions from relief.”

“It’s just like having a garden; you have to weed the garden. If you’re raising animals; you have to cull the herd. That’s what needs to happen,” Taylor said.

This whole business about legalizing an unknown—when I talk about unknown, we’re talking about potentially 30% of the people that are here have criminal records. Why don’t we just go ahead and enforce the current immigration laws? It’s just like having a garden; you have to weed the garden. If you’re raising animals; you have to cull the herd. That’s what needs to happen. We need to turn our law enforcement people into a screw to where the people that are taken full custody arrest of are processed for immigration backgrounds and those that have criminal records removed. That’s not so hard to understand because these people are being picked up committing other crimes.

Rios: Military's 'Homosexual Takeover' And Women In Navy Will Undermine Effectiveness Of Syrian Strike

American Family Association radio host Sandy Rios claimed today that if the United States attacks Syria over the Assad regime’s use of chemical weapons, American military efforts may fail as a result of the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the opening of additional positions to female service members.

Declaring that Secretary of State John Kerry is someone who is “not to be trusted” and part of an “untrustworthy” administration, Rios said she doubted that the US Navy will be effective in a possible strike against the Syrian government due to “the homosexual takeover of so much of our military” and roles for women in the Navy.

It’s getting more exaggerated. This is the nature of John Kerry, he always does this; he’s not to be trusted. This is the reason why I think we have to be concerned about going into Syria because the people that we’re looking at to lead us are untrustworthy people. There’s a second reason and that is military readiness. When I looked at those battleships going into the Mediterranean, supposedly getting ready for battle in Syria, I couldn’t help think about all the stories I’ve read about how women now are in the ranks of the Navy, getting pregnant at exponential numbers; when I think about the folding in and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and the homosexual takeover of so much of our military I’m not sure how effective those naval ships will be.

Rios: Media Coverage of Greenwald and Quinn Represents 'The Perversion of Normalcy'

Conservative talk show host Sandy Rios today described how she is upset about recent media stories on Kim Catullo, New York mayoral candidate Christine Quinn’s wife, and David Miranda, reporter Glenn Greenwald’s partner who was held for almost nine hours by British authorities at Heathrow airport.

“We have a mayor and a first lady—I can’t even find the language for that,” Rios commented about Quinn and Catullo, before ranting that “Glenn Greenwald has a gay partner and his gay partner David Miranda was detained at Heathrow and it’s like the world has ended.” “We are accustomed to the perversion of normality, we are getting so used to it in our headlines,” Rios lamented.

“It’s just amazing to me the power of the homosexual movement and the interest in the sex lives in all of these people.” Rios said we should “operate as individuals” and gay people should not “parade” their homosexuality.

Rios: 'God Will Even the Score' with Obama and Gays

After denouncing First Amendment protections for Muslim-Americans, American Family Association talk show host Sandy Rios said that despite the political setbacks of the Religious Right, “God will even the score” with President Obama and “homosexual activists.” She said that Obama and “homosexual activists” will be punished in the end for “breaking all kinds of moral laws and mocking everyone in the process.”

I would not want to be in the shoes of any of the left right now. I would not want to be in Barack Obama’s shoes. I would not want to be in the shoes of homosexual activists. I say that with humility and with fear for them because God will even the score, he will sort things out, he will be God and he will not be mocked. Whereas they think they are getting away with breaking all kinds of moral laws and mocking everyone in the process, they just don’t know God, they don’t know who they are up against and we do. And that should bring out some mercy in us because I wouldn’t want to be—what did that old evangelist say: ‘it’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of an angry God.’

Rios and Gaffney Approve Egypt Massacre, Oppose First Amendment Rights for Muslims

Sandy Rios of the American Family Association today said she is “very grateful” for the action taken by the Egyptian military against the Muslim Brotherhood, including the massacre that left over 600 people in Egypt dead, and added that she also believes Muslims should not have First Amendment rights in the United States.

She denounced Muslim-Americans for “claiming our First Amendment rights here when Islam is much more than a religion” and said Islam should not be treated like Christianity, Buddhism or Hindusm. “It is a complete and total system that demands usurpation of whatever the local authority is, it demands to dominate, it demands to conquer, to kill or convert,” Rios charged.

The talk show host added that the massacre victims weren’t “innocent” and that she is “applauding” their actions against the Brotherhood.

Yesterday, Frank Gaffney—who also backs restrictions on First Amendment rights for Muslims—told Rios that “this bloodshed was probably necessary to give Egypt a chance for a better future.”

Anti-Muslim blogger Pamela Geller also added her two cents:

The Egyptian government had to clean out the Muslim Brotherhood’s terror camps -- there were independent entities preparing for civil war where people were being tortured and murdered. Obama was wrong to criticize the Egyptian government while expressing no solidarity with the soldiers and police officers who were brutally murdered by the Muslim Brotherhood. Did anyone think the global jihadist Muslim Brotherhood was going to go quietly?

Sandy Rios Fears Food Stamps Will Aid Islamists and Palestinian Refugees Obama Didn't Resettle Here

American Family Association talk show host Sandy Rios, like her colleague Bryan Fischer, enjoys repeating right-wing material — often based on email chains — as absolute fact without any evidence. Rios, who has previously repeated the widely debunked rumor (which probably originated from this chain email) that Obamacare has a specific exemption for Muslim-Americans, on her radio program today asserted that President Obama kicked off his first term as President by resettling thousands of Palestinian refugees in the U.S.

She made the false claim while criticizing the Michigan Department of Human Services for having an Arabic-language food assistance application and help-line. Rios also warned that Michigan is “brimming with Islamists”:

You may remember that President Obama ordered the resettling of thousands of Palestinians right after he became president, he brought them over at our expense and I don’t know if they all went to Michigan but tons of them did. Of course before that Michigan, certainly the Detroit area is just brimming with Islamists; it’s pretty frightening actually. I think it is frightening because they are Islamists and they are in the heart of our country, and now they are qualified for food stamps as well. We know that in Michigan, Muslim men have multiple wives even though we don’t allow that in this country. They do still practice it so they go in and sign up for food assistance…. Is Arabic going to be the new language—how many languages are we going to have that are going to be officially acknowledged in America?

Of course, her assertion about Obama resettling thousands of Palestinians was based on a discredited chain email.

As both FactCheck.org and Snopes.com point out, Obama—like President George W. Bush before him—did authorize funding to help Palestinian refugees, but not to resettle them in the United States. The money would go to groups providing emergency food, medical and housing aid, but did not include provisions on migration or resettlement. In fact, the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration, which was in charge of the money, told FactCheck.org, “We don’t resettle out of the West Bank and Gaza, full stop.”

Since Michigan has close to 200,000 Arab-American residents [PDF], it isn’t unreasonable that the state has an Arabic-language food assistance form.

The majority of Arab-Americans are Christian, but of course the facts wouldn’t stop Rios from using the first myth about mass-resettlement of Palestinians to create a second conspiracy theory: that Obama is now giving food stamps to radical, polygamous Islamists.
