The issue of big money in politics is one so pervasive and complex that it requires a range of solutions to fully address it. Recently, a number of money in politics reforms known as the “Defend Democracy” legislative package, which included both a proposed constitutional amendment to get big money out of elections and small donor empowerment measures, were reintroduced together in the 114th Congress. According to recent polling by Every Voice, the public broadly supports a constitutional amendment, and using the amendment to set the context for small donor engagement boosts support for such reforms.
