Status in the 110th Congress

On January 11, 2007, Representative John Murtha (D-12th PA) reintroduced the “Flag Desecration Amendment” (H.J.Res. 10), which has 59 cosponsors and awaits consideration by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties.

An alternate version is known as H.J.Res. 9.

To be adopted, a proposed constitutional amendment must pass with the support of two-thirds of those present and voting in each chamber of Congress, and then be ratified by three-fourths of the states.
