Program Advancement Manager

People For the American Way is a national organization with over 1 million members dedicated to defending constitutional rights under attack by the Trump administration and the Right Wing and is deeply engaged in campaigns ranging from defending the Supreme Court to fighting Islamophobia to engaging Latino voters in elections. Our affiliate People For the American Way Foundation conducts research, legal, and education work on behalf of First Amendment freedoms and democratic values and works to diversify the leadership of the progressive movement through its Young People For youth leadership programs and its Young Elected Officials Network.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the President, senior management, and the Development team to manage and maintain a portfolio of major donor and foundation relationships
  • Coordinate and execute all written foundation communications, including all grant proposal writing (including Letters of Inquiry), reporting, and grants management
  • Strategize funding prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship with program leadership to both grow new and existing program funding as well as increase donor engagement around People For programmatic activity
  • Work closely with the Leadership Networks — Young People For, the Young Elected Officials Network, and the African American Religious Affairs Network — to identify opportunities for donor engagement and expand funder awareness of new and existing People For initiatives
  • As necessary, accompany program leadership and/or President to meetings with major donors and foundations to both speak to People For’s programmatic work and capture follow up items
  • Responsible for maintenance of major donor and foundation contacts in portfolio, tracking assignments, assisting in scheduling meetings and preparing briefings
  • Assist the Associate Director of Major Gifts with the planning and execution of events, ranging from program launches to donor briefings and major galas
  • Draft additional written material — including correspondence, program summaries, op-eds, and letters to the editor — as needed
  • Support program leadership at trainings, conferences, and convening’s as needed

Qualifications

  • Superior writing skills, including the ability to tailor writing to diverse and distinct audiences
  • Practiced ability to interact in a persuasive and professional manner with a wide variety of people — including donors, stakeholders, and partners
  • Ability to work efficiently and maintain positive professional relationships
  • Experience working programmatically in community organizing, leadership development, and/or civic engagement roles highly desired
  • Well organized with a demonstrated ability to manage details, competing priorities, and multiple, overlapping deadlines
  • Collaborative style and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Possess college degree, with related work in nonprofit fundraising a plus
  • Commitment to progressive values and the issues of People For
