Following the vote in the House to approve the budget reconciliation bill, and a vote pending in the Senate to provide additional tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, People For the American Way President Ralph G. Neas had the following statement:

“This budget is among the most heartless pieces of legislation to pass Congress in many years. The idea that as the Senate passes more tax cuts for the wealthy, the House votes to cut Medicaid health care funds for children boggles the mind. And it’s not just children. The deep cuts in this bill will take away health care, child care, foster care, child support enforcement, and student loans from low-income and middle class families. If the myth of ‘compassionate conservatives’ isn’t already dead, this should put the final nail in the coffin.

“The President and the Congressional Republican leadership continue to press policies that jeopardize the most vulnerable among us to further line the pockets of the wealthy. It’s unconscionable.”
