Where Was President Bush?

Last night’s failure to move ahead with the Senate’s comprehensive immigration reform bill is squarely on the shoulders of President Bush and the Senate Republicans.

President Bush's failed leadership resulted in a missed opportunity to pass realistic comprehensive immigration reform. Bush clearly didn’t do enough to secure his party’s support. Only seven Republicans voted for cloture.

But we can’t give up. Comprehensive immigration reform is still possible. The country can ill afford to wait any longer for reform of a broken system that is worsening by the day.

President Bush shouldn’t leave office without signing a bill that secures our borders, brings the millions of hardworking immigrants out of the shadows, promotes family reunification, and includes a future worker program with a path to earned citizenship.
