In response to the executive actions that President Obama announced today to address gun violence in America, Minister Leslie Watson Malachi, Director of People For the American Way’s African American Ministers In Action, issued the following statement:

“We are called upon to protect families, communities, and our nation in every way we can. Today President Obama answers that call by taking life-saving measures to reduce the threat of gun violence.

“I strongly commend the President for these executive actions that address gun violence. Sadly, over 30,000 Americans die from gun violence every year, and African Americans are disproportionately at risk. President Obama stands on the right side of history by siding with the American people over the NRA and the Republican Party through his actions today.”
