WASHINGTON—Yesterday, Bloomberg Businessweek reported that Trump’s campaign claims to be running “major voter suppression operations,” including one aimed at African American voters.

Minister Leslie Watson Malachi, director of the African American Ministers In Action at People For the American Way, released the following statement:

“Trump seems to have decided that if he can’t win fair and square, his best bet is to try and stop people from voting at all. That his team is bragging about trying to suppress African American voters shows just how little he respects our democracy and the people who make it up. Elected leaders, and those seeking to be elected, should be working to encourage more voters to participate in our political system, but Trump is trying to do exactly the opposite.

“Attempts to suppress voter turnout go against everything our country stands for. This exemplifies how low Trump is willing to go in his shameful campaign.”
