People For the American Way has hired Randy Borntrager as its new Political Director, the group announced today. Borntrager has extensive experience in progressive political organizing. From 2009 through 2011, he served as Chief of Staff for Rep Mary Jo Kilroy of Ohio. Previously, he managed Kilroy’s 2008 campaign for Congress, successfully managing one of the top five targeted congressional races in the country.

Prior to that, Borntrager served as the Communications Director and then as the Interim Executive Director of the Ohio Democratic Party, where he coordinated the messaging for five statewide offices as well as State House and Senate caucuses, which ended 16 years of Republican control in Ohio.

Previously, Borntrager served as Communications Specialist for Special Olympics Inc. in Washington, D.C. He was also a member of the team which oversaw the worldwide media operations for the World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.

“We are delighted to have Randy Borntrager on board,” said Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way. “His extensive experience in progressive politics and talent for bringing progressive ideas to a wide audience will be invaluable to People For’s efforts to drive positive change in Washington and throughout the country. Randy will also help us to make a difference in critically important elections across the country during the next two years and beyond.”
