People For the American Way today announced that its federal PAC has endorsed State Senator Ted Deutch’s campaign for the United States House of Representatives. Deutch is running to succeed former Congressman Robert Wexler in a special election on April 13th.

I’m proud to announce our endorsement of Ted Deutch,” said Michael B. Keegan, President of People For the American Way. Senator Deutch has been a vocal supporter of efforts to fight back against corporate influence in elections, including a constitutional amendment to undo the Supreme Court’s devastating decision in Citizens United. The Court’s decision was a dangerous blow to the First Amendment, but Ted Deutch has shown that he’s willing to fight back. That’s exactly the kind of leadership we need in Washington right now.”

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court struck down more than a century of established law, declaring that corporations have the same right as individuals to spend money in support of political candidates. Ted Deutch has made fixing that decision a central plank of his campaign.

Ted Deutch is clearly the candidate who will fight for the citizens of Florida’s 19th District and for the core Constitutional values that all Americans share,” said Keegan. In the State Senate, he’s stood up for public education, for reproductive freedom and for equal rights for all people. After this election, he’ll keep fighting for those causes in the House of Representatives. Ted Deutch is the right choice in this election.”
