WASHINGTON, D.C.— Following today’s House vote to approve the Voting Rights Advancement Act, H.R. 4, PFAW Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“The harm done to voting rights in this country since the terrible decision in Shelby County v. Holder is literally incalculable. We will never know the true numbers of Americans who have been disenfranchised by voter suppression measures that exploded in the wake of this ruling.  We applaud the House’s passage of the Voting Rights Advancement Act as a way to remedy this terrible wrong. We also note that the House is continuing to do the people’s business while the Republican-led Senate complains about impeachment, rams through more narrow-minded elitists for the federal bench, and refuses to take up scores of critical bills that the House has passed.  This urgently-needed protection for Americans’ voting rights must not become just another bill buried in Mitch McConnell’s ‘graveyard.'”
