Washington, D.C.— Following today’s release of the Justice Department’s inspector general report concluding that the FBI investigation of the Trump presidential campaign was not politically motivated, People For the American Way Executive Vice President for Policy and Program Marge Baker released the following statement:

“This report by the Justice Department inspector general completely debunks the Trump administration’s pet theory that the FBI investigation of Trump’s campaign was politically motivated or biased.  There’s no escaping that conclusion, despite evidence in the report of some missteps on certain procedures. Unfortunately, Attorney General William Barr’s attempts to spin the report’s findings into something more favorable to Trump are totally predictable.  And that’s because Barr insists on behaving as if he were Trump’s personal attorney, rather than the advocate for the people and the rule of law that the Constitution envisioned.”
