WASHINGTON, D.C.–People For the American Way today released the following statement from People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker in response to the Senate vote to confirm Washington lawyer Daniel Bress for a California slot on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“Daniel Bress is a narrow-minded elitist who spent his Washington, D.C.-based legal career advancing the interests of corporations and the rich. Bress is being confirmed to a California seat on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals without any meaningful connection to California and over the objection of California’s senators. In fact, Bress is now the third judicial nominee for a California slot on the Ninth Circuit confirmed without the support of that state’s home-state senators. It’s clear that Trump, McConnell, and Graham will disregard virtually any norm to fill the federal courts with right-wing judges whose rulings will tear down the New Deal and curtail rights for all Americans.”
