WASHINGTON, D.C.—Following Dan McCready’s narrow loss to Dan Bishop tonight in the special election in North Carolina’s Ninth Congressional District, People For the American Way Political Director and Director of PFAW’s Latinos Vote! program Lizet Ocampo released the following statement:

“The fact that Dan McCready came so close to beating his Republican opponent, Dan Bishop, in a historically red Congressional district sends a strong message about shifting political winds as we head into 2020. This is especially true since Donald Trump himself came to the district to campaign for Bishop: Republicans pulled out all the stops and yet Bishop barely squeaked by. This is a sign that voters are fed up with the Trump agenda and that big changes are coming next year.”
