Washington, D.C.—People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker today issued the following statement regarding the effort by Sens. Chris Coons, D-Del., and Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., to get a floor vote on legislation to protect the Mueller investigation:

“Congress must act to ensure that nobody is above the law and that special counsels maintain their independence. We commend Senators Coons and Flake for fighting to get this legislation a vote on the floor of the Senate. After President Trump fired his attorney general, it’s even more clear that Congress has to check the president and prevent him from removing the special counsel without cause.”
