In response to the Senate’s vote this afternoon to invoke cloture on the nomination of Kyle Duncan, Donald Trump’s nominee to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement.

“If anyone wants to see the damage being done to our federal courts by Donald Trump they don’t need to look any further than Kyle Duncan. This is a nominee who has spent his entire career making clear that he doesn’t believe that women, immigrants, voters and LGBTQ people deserve the full protection of our laws. He’s exhibit A for the way Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are trying to use our courts to push a dangerous and extreme agenda that gives more power to powerful interests and less to the individuals our constitution was designed to protect. This is a nominee who shouldn’t be anywhere near the federal bench.”
