WASHINGTON—After the Trump administration announced it will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“We have said it before and we will say it again: there is no defensible reason for Donald Trump to end DACA. Dreamers are our friends, our neighbors and members of the military. They have made our country stronger and boosted our economy. But Donald Trump is using them as pawns to further his administration’s extreme anti-immigrant agenda.

“Ending DACA and subjecting nearly 800,00 young people to deportation is cruel, unjust and devastating to our communities. It is clear that President Trump cares more about appeasing white supremacists, than he does the Dreamers who call this country home. An attack on Dreamers is an attack on us all. We urge Congress to immediately take up the DREAM Act of 2017 to permanently protect Dreamers and stand up to these attacks on our immigrant communities.”
