WASHINGTON—After the Trump administration announced that it’s rescinding Obama-era Title IX guidance regarding sexual assault, People For the American Way Foundation’s Director of Young People For Christin “Cici” Battle released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos just made clear, once again, that they do not care about the safety of students in schools and on college campuses. With sexual assault already severely underreported, we need to do more to combat sexual violence and support students under Title IX. This move is an attack on women, on queer and trans students, on students of color, and on all survivors of sexual assault.

“If it wasn’t clear enough where DeVos stood, earlier this summer she met with so-called ‘men’s rights’ activists. By rescinding these protections, DeVos turned her back on sexual assault survivors and made it harder for them to come forward. Her actions today empowered abusers and made it more dangerous for students across the country.”
