In response to the House of Representatives’ vote today passing the GOP tax bill People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement:

“This bill is a scam, plain and simple. It damages our healthcare system, endangers our social safety net, and threatens the economic wellbeing of millions of people all to line the pockets of the Trump family and the GOP’s big donors. For all of Trump’s rhetoric about representing the ‘forgotten man’ it’s hard to think of a tax bill that could more clearly be designed for the benefit of the rich and the powerful. As usual, working families are left holding the bag. When Paul Ryan and his cronies in congress start making claims about the need to slash programs to cut the deficit, no one should forget how ruthlessly and dishonestly he pushed this legislation in order to give tax cuts to billionaires and big corporations.”
