Voters in Ohio today voted resoundingly to repeal SB5, the anti-labor bill pushed through the state’s Republican legislature earlier this year. The
bill was one of several attempts by state legislatures across the country to decimate organizing rights for unions. A similar bill in Wisconsin
resulted in the recall of two state senators who had voted for it.

Michael Keegan, President of People For the American Way, said:

“Voters in Ohio and Wisconsin have now rejected the Corporate Right’s plans to cripple unions and demonize teachers, firefighters, police officers and
other public employees. In Occupy Wall Street protests around the country, Americans are standing up for the truth that our mutual prosperity depends
upon the freedom to organize and the freedom to hold our government and corporations accountable. Voters in Ohio today resoundingly agreed, despite
being deluged with untold amounts of last-minute campaign cash from shadowy interest groups.

“Ohio’s rejection of SB5 should be a loud wake-up call to elected officials: Americans want our politicians to work for voters, not for campaign
donors. The GOP presidential candidates like Mitt Romney who backed the side of big business over the side of the people in Ohio should take notice.”
