Organization also lobbies Congress to pass comprehensive reform

People For the American Way is participating in rallies and marches across the country today to build support for comprehensive immigration reform.

“We are proud to march today.  This movement is about living up to our nation’s history and its values,” said PFAW Chief of Staff Margery F. Baker. “We support comprehensive immigration reform because we value fairness and believe deeply in the Constitution’s promise of justice, and because it is long past time to fix our nation’s broken immigration system.”

PFAW is contributing to today’s events in the following ways:

  • More than 400,000 PFAW members and activists received e-mail alerts last week encouraging them to participate in over 60 events across the country.
  • PFAW staff and volunteers, as well as the staff of the affiliated Mi Familia Vota en Acción, are attending or have attended marches in Austin, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and Washington.
  • College students participating in PFAW Foundation’s Young People For program are organizing events at Penn State, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, UC Berkeley, Macalester College, Trinity University, University of Texas-El Paso, University of Texas-Austin, NYU, Columbia University, Hunter College, and John Jay College.
  • Volunteers at PFAW’s action center have been phone banking to recruit march participants.
  • Today’s events, as well as background information about the immigration issue, are featured prominently at www.pfaw.org.
PFAW has called on Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform, and to block punitive, enforcement-only measures that have repeatedly failed to work.  PFAW also regularly monitors right-wing communications about this issue.
