WASHINGTON, D.C.—People For the American Way (PFAW) released the following statement from PFAW Executive Vice President Marge Baker in response to the House of Representatives’ passage of a resolution of disapproval on President Trump’s declaration of a national emergency.

“Trump is assaulting democracy by declaring a fake state of emergency and he must be stopped. The crises on our southern border were created by Trump when he crippled the legal asylum application process and began separating children from their families. The president simply wants to rob the Treasury of funds needed for urgent needs across this country after failing to convince even a Republican-controlled Congress to spend the money he wanted on his racist border wall fantasy. It’s a naked power grab and an assault on the separation of powers. It is crucial that the Senate now join the House in voting to protect our democracy.”
