WASHINGTON— In response to the ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals against President Trump’s revised travel ban, People For the American Way President Michael Keegan issued the following statement:

“Today’s decision is yet another setback for Donald Trump’s illegal, unconstitutional Muslim ban. Regardless of the fig leaves that administration officials have tried to attach to this order, this is one case where we can take Donald Trump at his word: there’s never been any doubt that the president is intent on discriminating against Muslims entering the United States. That’s a gross violation of the core American principle that all people should be treated equally regardless of their religion.

“This ruling also continues to lay the groundwork for the Supreme Court to take up this issue, and it’s a reminder that Trump’s effort to put conservative extremists on the federal bench doesn’t happen in a vacuum. The president wants courts that will allow him to twist and ignore the law with impunity, and all of his nominees should be evaluated in that light.”
