In response to the Senate’s vote to invoke cloture on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker issued the following statement.

“From his record of extremism, to his repeated lies before the Senate Judiciary Committee, to his angry partisan rants, to the multiple credible allegations of sexual misconduct, it’s obvious that Brett Kavanaugh is unfit for a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court. Despite the best efforts of Republican leaders to hide Judge Kavanaugh’s record, dismiss his accusers and rig the investigations into his background, Americans all across the country have come to the conclusion that Brett Kavanaugh shouldn’t be confirmed. Lisa Murkowski’s vote today, along with opposition from moderate Democrats like Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelly, make clear that there’s deep bipartisan concern that Brett Kavanaugh doesn’t have the temperament or integrity for our nation’s highest court.

“Tomorrow’s vote will be one that cements the legacy of individual senators and the United States Senate as a whole. Jeff Flake, Susan Collins, Joe Manchin and every other member of the Senate will need to decide if they are willing to put principle and the lives of women over the reckless politics and partisanship that have characterized this confirmation process.”
