WASHINGTON— In response to Former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee this morning, People For the American Way Executive Vice President Marge Baker released the following statement:

James Comey delivered critical testimony in the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation. But at the end of the day, we are left with many more questions about President Trump, Attorney General Jeff Sessions and possible impeachable misconduct. Comey not only emphasized the need for a special counsel, but he also confirmed he was fired after he refused Trump’s directive to drop the FBI investigation of Michael Flynn. This lays out an incredibly disturbing pattern of President Trump putting his own agenda above adherence to the laws of our nation.

“Let’s be clear, no president is above the law. We need a thorough and independent investigation so we can get to the truth about what happened in our election.”
