WASHINGTON, D.C.— As returns in tonight’s Virginia legislative elections are making it clear that the Virginia Senate has a new Democratic majority, PFAW President Michael Keegan released the following statement:

“Flipping the Senate to Democratic control is a tremendous victory for progressives and for the people of Virginia, who are sending a powerful message tonight about the future they want for the state. Virginians have spoken clearly: they want access to health care, investment in public education, rights for women, fundamental LGBTQ rights, and gun safety measures to protect all Virginians. People For the American Way is proud to have supported many of these great Democratic candidates who made the difference in this election and we are deeply grateful to all of them for their commitment to building a better future. Whichever way the remaining chamber goes tonight, we already see Virginia voters repudiating Trump in a way that definitely sends signals about 2020.”
