Televangelist Pat Robertson said today that the political crisis in Venezuela would never have materialized if the U.S. had only taken his advice about assassinating late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez. Back in 2005, the 700 Club host urged the U.S. to kill Chavez, although he later apologized: “Is it right to call for assassination? No, and I apologize for that statement.” Today, however, he alleged that he was right all along about killing Chavez: “I warned on this program a couple of years ago and was pilloried across the nation for suggesting we ought to take out... Georgia Republican congressman and Senate candidate Paul Broun has been trying to out-extreme his opponents on the issue of immigration reform, announcing in a debate this weekend that the only immigration law he wants is one “that makes English the official language of America.” In an interview with Tea Party Express earlier this month, Broun made the same policy recommendation, claiming that comprehensive immigration reform would be “disastrous for Republicans” and “disastrous for anybody who is freedom-loving.” Later in the interview, Broun claimed... The FCC has pulled the plug on its press study after the right-wing ginned up a completely bogus freak-out over it. Phil Burress says there is no way that Hillary Clinton will be elected president: "I just cannot see her being the next president of the United States knowing what we know about her." "Coach" Dave Daubenmire asks "Is the Bible the New Porn?" Phyllis Schlafly complains that gay rights are now trumping the First Amendment. Finally, Todd Starnes can't even make it through a two minute book promo without lying, twice... MORE

Televangelist Jim Robison yesterday wrote a post on “The Gay Challenge” in response to Michael Sam’s announcement that he is gay. Robison warned that soon “Congress and the courts will impose same sex [sic] marriage on the American people even though their numbers are small when compared with the total population,” warning that such marriages are “an assault not only on truth, natural acts, and marriage, but an attack on the very possibility that God gave His creation a reliable standard to follow.” He included a message about Sam’s decision to... Anti-gay activists Scott Lively and Peter LaBarbera held a press conference today to announce the formation of a new Coalition for Family Values to fight the “destructive” LGBT agenda around the world. They were joined by “ex-gay” activist Greg Quinlan and Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania. Linda Harvey of Mission America sent a supportive statement. And don’t worry about calling these guys anti-gay. The rationale behind their new coalition seems to be that too many other Religious Right leaders will only speak out... MORE

Richard Land, the former president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, recently delivered a speech at Truett-McConnell College in Georgia where he proclaimed that Satan is behind both legal abortion and gay marriage and railing against the practice of gay couples using surrogates in order to have children, calling it a "travesty" and "child abuse": The Southern Baptist Convention’s former top expert on moral and public policy concerns says same-sex marriage is opening doors for a gay-surrogacy movement that he predicts... Concerned Women For America legal counsel Mario Diaz is not pleased with Christian pundits who have come out in opposition to the new spate of state-level measures that would allow businesses to discriminate against same-sex couples. In a Christian Post column today, Diaz accuses these discrimination opponents of ignoring Jesus’ example (Would Jesus “deliver a blessing” at a same-sex wedding? “I suspect not”). Diaz also expresses concern for gay people themselves, writing that getting married will make it “more difficult to ever escape” their “... MORE

The American Decency Association is adding its voice to the chorus of anti-gay activists angered by a federal judge’s ruling against Virginia’s ban on same-sex marriage. In a statement yesterday, the group said that the gay rights supporters are removing God’s blessing from America and bringing down the country through “lawlessness, which defies both republic [sic] and democratic rule.” “As the delicate balance of powers tilt we could be watching the fall of a nation,” the group warns. “Lawlessness of the heart is what has led to lawlessness in... The Family Research Council is deeply troubled that Democrats have the gall to try to win elections in the state of Texas. On Washington Watch yesterday, FRC senior fellow Kenneth Blackwell said that President Obama is “trying to keep the border of Texas very open and porous” to allow undocumented immigrants to enter the state so they can vote Democratic, even though they are not US citizens and therefore cannot vote. Blackwell even tied this “very disturbing” Democratic conspiracy to the lawsuit against the Texas voter ID law, a measure that would bar the 1.4 million... MORE
