  • Tell Congress: DON’T repeal Obamacare!

    Close to the 51 votes they need to repeal Obamacare forever, Senate Republicans are preparing to introduce a new health care repeal bill worse than all those before it. Republicans in Congress have 12 days before their repeal attempts are dead altogether, and we need to make sure this bill does not pass in this window. The bill is cruel and immoral, leaving millions without health coverage, and stripping others of options to pay for it. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office even announced that they do not have enough time to fully score the bill before the vote -- meaning that the people voting on it and the people impacted will not know the full scale of the damage it will inflict. Demand your members of Congress REJECT Trumpcare!

  • Congress: Pass the DREAM Act of 2017 now!

    Donald Trump announced that he was ending the DACA program effective six months from now, upending the lives of 800,000 young people. In doing so he is stooping even lower to satisfy his anti-immigrant and nativist supporters by attacking kids, and he is feeding the bigotry of his base. Congress MUST stand against this devastating and immoral distruption to the lives of hundreds of thousands of immigrants by passing the DREAM Act of 2017 in the next six months. The DREAM Act provides a path to citizenship for DACA recipients and other young undocumented immigrants who graduate from US high schools and attend college, enter the workforce, or enlist in military programs.     People For the American Way and PFAW’s African American Ministers In Action network are calling on Congress to hold Trump accountable for preaching hate from the White House. US Reps. Jerrold Nadler, Bonnie Watson Coleman, and Pramila Jayapal are introducing a resolution to censure Donald Trump for refusing to condemn the KKK and Nazis, and for employing white nationalists -- like Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, and Sebastian Gorka -- in his White House.     Firing Steve Bannon, Seb Gorka, and Stephen Miller -- three of Trump's white nationalist advisors -- is long overdue. These men, all of whom have explicitly white nationalist ideologies, never should have been crafting strategy and policy in the White House in the first place. Tell Trump: It's time for Bannon, Gorka, and Miller to GO.

    It is time for Trump and his administration to forcefully denounce bigotry, hate crimes, and the "Alt-right" white nationalist movement.     Republicans in the Senate just voted to open debate on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. And they don't even know which version of this abhorrent bill they're voting on. Because of the tenacity of Mitch McConnell and the cowardice of a handful of Republican senators, Trumpcare lives. And millions of Americans are left wondering if the health care they depend on will be there next year. Tell the Senate Republicans: SHAME on you for voting to move forward on debate to repeal to Affordable Care Act.

  • Revoke Jared Kushner’s security clearance immediately!

    The news about the meeting between a Russian lawyer and Donald Trump, Jr., Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner appears to be the smoking gun signaling that, at the very least, there was intent by the Trump campaign to collude with the Russian hacking of our election in 2016. While Don Jr.’s emails are beyond damning, only one of those three members of the Trump campaign who were in that meeting is currently a member of the Trump administration -- the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. And he must have his security clearance revoked immediately. A rapidly growing number of Democratic members of Congress are calling for Kushner’s security clearance to be suspended. Tell both Congress and the White House that Jared Kushner’s security clearance should be revoked without delay!

  • Resist Trump’s sham voter commission!

    Donald Trump escalated his voter fraud witch-hunt—based on his unsubstantiated belief that voter fraud cost him the popular vote in 2016 -- by convening a "Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity" headed by notorious voter suppression advocates. Now he’s using this commission to lay the groundwork to suppress voting rights, and the “experts” on his commission are demanding private voter data from state election officials, including names, dates of birth, voting histories, party identifications, and parts of voters’ social security numbers. There are SERIOUS concerns with the information the commission has requested -- not only is it a breach of voters’ privacy and security, this information could be used to target voters for suppression. Please join us in calling on state election officials to REFUSE to share voters’ information with this sham commission.

  • Tell Congress: Keep important protections between church and state!

    Donald Trump made some very specific promises to the Religious Right in his 2016 campaign. Nominating an anti-choice judge to the Supreme Court was one, and demolishing the Johnson Amendment was another. The Johnson Amendment, passed in 1954, prevents churches and other tax-exempt nonprofit organizations from spending their money to support or attack political candidates. If wealthy special interests are able to pour tax-exempt money into our elections through churches and religious nonprofits, the impact on the amount of money in politics could be like a second Citizens United.

  • Congress: Create an independent commission!

    ALL types of available investigations are needed because no single option is perfect. Congressional inquiries can be slowed by Trump allies in the Republican House and Senate majorities. And the special prosecutor still technically exists under the DOJ’s chain of command and can be fired. We also need an INDEPENDENT COMMISSION can to investigate the Russian interference in the election. Right now House Democrats are circulating a "discharge petition" -- a procedural measure to force a floor vote on legislation that creates an independent commission.

  • Tell your senators to oppose Trump’s extreme judicial nominees!

    Trump is trying to remake the courts by installing ultra conservative far right judges to lifetime seats on our federal courts. With the Comey firing and Trump's defiance of the rule of law front and center, it's clearer than ever how critical it is to ensure that these seats are filled with jurists who will serve as a bulwark against abuse of power and the loss of core constitutional protections. Yet the slate of nominees Trump has put forward is deeply troubling. Two of his nominees were on Trump's list of 21 potential picks for the Supreme Court -- extreme right-wing judges hand-picked by the far right activists at the Heritage Foundation and the Federalist Society. Trump is looking for judges who won't get in his way and we have got to stand up against that threat. Tell your Senators to oppose Trump's extreme judicial nominees!

  • Senators: Stop Trumpcare!

    Trumpcare passed the House in a vote that should make House Republicans ashamed for a long time to come. They rammed the American Health Care Act through even though with little debate and no Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score, just so Trump and House Republicans could score a “win.” Your senators need to know how strongly you oppose this bill so that they can stop it in its tracks. Tell your senators: Stop Trumpcare!

  • Tell Betsy DeVos to remove Candice Jackson from the Office for Civil Rights.

    The current acting head of the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights is Candice Jackson, an outspoken anti-feminist who has claimed that she has been the subject of race-based discrimination for being white. Jackson is an unacceptable choice to lead a department that is instrumental in protecting students from discrimination on the basis of gender, race, disability, and age in any capacity. And during the presidential campaign in 2016, despite previous support for some survivors of assault, she wrote on Facebook that the women accusing Donald Trump of sexual assault were “fake victims”... demonstrating she only cares about their experiences when it is politically convenient. Tell Betsy DeVos that Candice Jackson is an unacceptable choice for acting head of the Office for Civil Rights, and that she needs to nominate a candidate who will fiercely advocate for the rights of all students.

    Millions of women -- especially low-income women -- depend on Planned Parenthood for their life-saving services. Tell Congress: DO NOT defund Planned Parenthood!

    The Washington Post reports that Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke with a Russian official TWICE during the 2016 campaign and then lied about it to the Senate Judiciary Committee during his confirmation hearing. Sessions must RESIGN as Attorney General! Add your name now!

    The Supreme Court eviscerated a key section of the Voting Rights Act with its 5-4 decision in Shelby County v. Holder. We need to restore full strength to the Voting Rights Act without delay.

    It's urgent that we save our democracy from the scourge of big money unleashed by Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United v. FEC. Tell Congress to pass an amendment to the Constitution that will undo the harm of Citizens United and related cases!
