Next Up: Leash Laws for Unicorns

The Right’s so-called fight against voter fraud got a bit of airtime on The Daily Show this week, but that doesn’t mean the nationwide attack on voting rights is a laughing matter.

Millions of dollars have been spent purging voter rolls and requiring voter ID, but these laws do little but disenfranchise otherwise eligible voters. Even in Pennsylvania, whose voter ID law is currently tied up in litigation, the state’s attorneys conceded that there "have been no investigations or prosecutions of in-person voter fraud in Pennsylvania."

Jon Stewart’s right: widespread voter fraud isn’t a problem; even if it were, these laws wouldn’t stop it; and for all we know, the Right’s going to keep fighting nonexistent issues.

So, what’s next? Leash laws for unicorns?
