Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, Wisconsin— Today, People For the American Way’s Latinos Vote! program announced a new radio ad featuring Dolores Huerta, People For the American Way board member and civil rights and labor leader, in partnership with Voces de la Frontera Action and Win Justice.
The Dolores Huerta ad is the latest in a series of ads included in a six-figure, Spanish-language radio and television ad buy in Wisconsin, focused on the important role Latinos can play in ensuring a Joe Biden victory in November. “There are so many things we must fight for, such as our health, the ability to provide for our families, and the education of our children. That is why your voice and your vote are very important. The candidate we choose will impact our communities for years to come,” says Huerta in the ad. “That is why we must choose a leader like Joe Biden.”
Several ads launched in September and will continue airing in three of the states’ major media markets: Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay, and run through Election Day. Voters in Wisconsin began receiving their absentee ballots on September 17, and they will now have additional information in Spanish to help them cast their ballots safely and securely for Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democrats across Wisconsin.
“Trump is a failed leader who cares nothing about keeping families together or addressing the health and economic disparities in Latino communities which have only been made worse by COVID-19,” said People For the American Way President Ben Jealous. “We can repair the damage of this President and his cronies by ensuring that we turn out record numbers of Latino voters to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and flip the Senate. Come November we must bring an end to this dark period in American history.”
“We are less than four weeks from Election Day and we have to do everything we can to invest in and engage Latino voters,” said People For the American Way Political Director Lizet Ocampo. “Donald Trump has proven time and time again that he is a complete failure for the Latino community and immigrant families. Our votes have power and every eligible Latino voter can help turn America into a place where we all have a say, where we are all welcomed, and where we all have dignity.”
The ads begin airing amid growing concerns about the lack of outreach to Latino communities during this 2020 presidential election cycle. There are an estimated 32 million eligible Latino voters nationwide and 156,000 in Wisconsin, which represents four percent of all eligible voters in the state–enough to turn the tide in a state Donald Trump won by fewer than 23,000 votes in 2016. This year, Latino voters will be the largest racial or ethnic minority participating in a presidential election.
Win Justice is a dynamic coalition comprised of partners Community Change Action, SEIU, Planned Parenthood, and Color of Change, that is dedicating $30 million in four battleground states to expand the electorate by mobilizing millions of voters of color, young people, women, and union supporters, many of whom have been marginalized or ignored by traditional campaigns in the past.
Voces de la Frontera Action is the 501c4 advocacy arm of Voces de la Frontera. With the same mission to fight for the rights of low wage and immigrant workers, Voces de la Frontera Action is allowed to have a more active role in lobbying and advocating for better laws.
