Washington, DC— In response to today’s House vote on Resolution 503 to establish a select committee to investigate the January 6th insurrection, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:
“Today’s House vote to establish a select committee to investigate the January 6 insurrection is encouraging, especially after months of stalling and flat-out refusals by Republicans to support a bipartisan commission. Americans will finally get the truth about the events leading up to that day and what happened on that day itself. As we approach the six-month anniversary of the attack, we are confident that our nation will have a comprehensive explanation for the incitement and encouragement that led a violent mob to threaten the Vice President and members of Congress and leave five people dead; we will also know how insurrectionists were allowed to breach the nation’s Capitol and who exactly –at the highest levels– was involved. We look forward to seeing what this select committee finds to inform our efforts to prevent such events from occurring again.”
