Atlanta, GA — Following today’s speeches by President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in Atlanta, calling for federal voting rights protections, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Today we saw the President Biden that the American people, including millions of Black and brown voters, elected with such optimism in 2020. The president rose to this moment in history, with a clear, strong and passionate call for the Senate to defend our democracy and pass voting rights legislation now – and remove the filibuster as an obstacle to that passage if that’s what it takes. We know that the activism of so many Americans over many months brought us to this point, and it was an honor to be present just feet away from the president as he spoke today’s historic words. Now the Senate must act, and we are confident it will. As President Biden said, ‘Let’s go get this done!’’
