Washington DC – Following today’s vote in the Senate to confirm Judge Gina Méndez-Miró to the district of Puerto Rico, the 100th federal judge put on the bench by President Joe Biden, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“Today, Gina Méndez-Miró became the 100th federal judge nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the Senate. This is a milestone moment in the mission to take back our courts. President Biden’s nominations of highly credentialed, experienced and diverse judges meet the urgency of this moment as we work toward equal justice for every person in America. We commend the President, Senate Judiciary Chair Durbin and Senator Schumer for this exceptional progress. We also note, despite this progress that there remain 64 federal judicial vacancies without nominees, two thirds of which are in states represented by Republican senators. To ensure equal justice for all, it is essential for senators of both parties to work in good faith with the White House on identifying qualified nominees for these critical, federal court positions. The daily lives of people across our nation depend on it.
