Washington, DC —Following the Senate Judiciary Committee’s resumption of its work to confirm outstanding judges nominated by President Joe Biden, People For the American Way President and CEO Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“We’re excited to see that the rapid pace of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s nomination and hearings process to confirm fair-minded judges and diversify the federal bench is already continuing this year. Under the leadership of Chairman Dick Durbin, in its first week back in session the Judiciary Committee has already held hearings for five new judicial nominees and has taken steps to advance 25 of President Joe Biden’s renominated nominees. This is a great start; and with 97 lifetime judges confirmed in Biden’s first two years, and more than 100 current court vacancies to fill, we look forward to a record number of confirmations by the end of this year. Every step in the judicial confirmation process is a step toward taking back our courts to restore justice and equal rights for all.”
