Washington, DC – Following the news that former prosecutor and current Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Janet Protasiewicz won the primary in the race to become the newest elected judge to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, People For the American Way President Svante Myrick released the following statement:

“People For the American Way celebrates Janet Protasiewicz’s primary win for a seat on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court. This year’s election for the state’s highest court will be critically important at a time when right-wing extremists are still attacking the freedom to vote, the freedom to access abortion, the freedom to learn, and our democracy. Protasiewicz’s victory is a critical opportunity to show that only fair-minded judges offer a real chance for equal justice and equal rights under the law for all people and all communities. We know this will be a tough fight, because the Far Right has made it clear that they want a court that will continue to rule in their narrow interests at the expense of the American people. But we are confident that the people of Wisconsin will elect Judge Protasiewicz to serve as their newest supreme court justice.”
