WASHINGTON, DC — In response to the final day of presentations of evidence by House impeachment managers today, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“After two days of chilling images presented as evidence by House impeachment managers against Donald Trump, there is no doubt that he is guilty of inciting the violent insurrection on January 6 that led to the death of five people and threatened the lives of hundreds more.  Trump knew how violent his supporters could be and did nothing to stop the nightmare on that day.  Instead, he incited his supporters to rise up to keep him in power and summoned an armed, angry, and dangerous mob to carry out his calculated orders to ‘fight like hell’ against our democracy. As the House managers made clear, the insurrectionists took the former president’s words literally when he encouraged them to terrorize fellow Americans with deadly violence.  As Rep. Joe Neguse said, Trump lit the match ‘while standing in the powder keg.’  He must be held accountable.”
