Washington, D.C. – On this first day of confirmation hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to become a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court, People For the American Way President Ben Jealous was in attendance and released the following statement:

“It was a great honor to be in the hearing room today and to listen to the words of our next Supreme Court justice, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, as she spoke about her love for our country and the Constitution. Judge Jackson is truly someone who will do as she said today and work every day to ensure that equal justice under law is a reality for all of us—not just the wealthy and powerful. We know there will be challenging days ahead on the road to Judge Jackson’s confirmation. I also know that this amazing, brilliant Black woman will meet every challenge with the dignity and grace she has always shown and that were on display in the hearing room today. The Senate should move swiftly to confirm her.”
