Today, People For the American Way (PFAW) announced a Spanish-language TV ad as part of its Latinos Vote! program targeting North Carolina Senator Richard Burr for standing against Latino communities—and with Donald Trump. The ad calls on viewers to vote for Hillary Clinton and Deborah Ross.
“Rejecting bigotry and hate means voting not just against Donald Trump but against the Republicans backing him and his agenda as well. Richard Burr has a long history of anti-immigrant votes, and it’s unacceptable that he’s aligned himself with a presidential candidate as extreme as Donald Trump,” said PFAW President Michael Keegan. “Our ad uses Trump and Burr’s own words to underscore how important it is to get out to vote against them this year; we know that Latino voters can defeat Trump, Burr, and the Republicans.”
“Richard Burr has embraced a presidential candidate who calls immigrants ‘rapists’ and ‘killers,’ who brags about sexually assaulting women, who mocks people with disabilities. And then there’s Burr’s long record of voting against immigrants and Latino families,” said PFAW Director of Latinos Vote! Lizet Ocampo. “That’s why Latino voters must cast their ballots against Donald Trump, Richard Burr, and Republicans up and down the ballot. The presidential, senate, and down-ballot races in North Carolina are likely to be extremely close this year, and the size of the Latino vote in the state will likely be significantly more than Obama’s 2008 margin over McCain. Latino voters will decide who wins the state, and could determine overall who wins the presidency and control of the Senate.”
